We had a fantastic birthday dinner at Mandalay for a group of eight. We sat outside in their heated parklet, which made for a really comfortable and festive setting. The service was attentive all evening and the food was excellent. We started with the vegetable pot stickers and vegetarian samosas, both great for sharing. Then we had the table-side mixed tea leaf salad and the mango salad, along with their house special samosa soup (we ordered a double). They thoughtfully portioned it so everyone at the table could enjoy it, which was perfect. For the main course we shared three entrées - a curry chicken, a pork with vegetables and a green beans dish with four orders of steamed rice, and it was more than enough food for everyone. We ate family style and shared. To finish, we had the fried banana and the creamy rice dessert--such a nice sweet end to dinner.

TLDR : Great place, delicious food and quick service Such ana amazing place for some Burmese food. Loved their mango and tea leaf salads. The chili lamb and the special noodles were amazing. The ambiance is nice and cozy for a good meal with friends and family. Overall a great experience.

Everything we ordered was absolutely superb! The papaya salad was one of my favorites -- so flavorful and perfectly balanced, with chilies and oil on the side if you want an extra kick of spice. The basil eggplant was delicious, cooked just right and full of rich flavor. The chili lamb was incredibly tender with no gamey aftertaste at all -- you honestly wouldn't even guess it's lamb! The fish dish was amazing too, perfectly prepared. We left completely satisfied as always... burp! (Excuse me! )

Thinking about which cuisine we haven't had in a long while and Burmese food came up. We've been to Mandalay Restaurant years ago and wanted to revisit this spot. It was very busy when we got there, but we managed to grab a table after a few minutes. They decorated the ceiling with LED lights, so it was difficult to take pics of the menu without having some of the lighting reflect back! ***OUR PICKS*** TEA LEAF SALAD ~ salad prepared with imported Burmese tea leaves, toasted with lentil seeds, grounded shrimp, fried garlic, green peppers, sesame seeds, peanuts and dressing. This dish is very popular and always a nice starter. Enjoyed this tasty salad! So different from the typical leafy salads. Though seeds can get stuck in your teeth. Grab some toothpicks. 4/5 MANDALAY SPECIAL NOODLES ~ Burmese flat noodles with mild coconut chicken, yellow pea powder, lime juice, onion and fried thin noodles on top. Good coconut flavor but it wasn't as tangy as we would have liked so we asked for more lime slices for added zing! 4/5 VOLCANO BEEF ~ recommended by the server. We thought the sauce was a bit too sweet and needed some balance. 3/5 Their food is about 4 stars, but it was expensive for small portions. Nothing was leftover and we didn't start off starving. My guy was still hungry after this, so he topped off after we got home.

Came here for my first time dining out at a Burmese restaurant! Was very difficult to decide what to order since there were so many unique dishes that looked delicious. - Mandalay special noodle: fried egg noodles and rice noodles in a yellow chicken curry sauce. Felt a bit sweeter than Thai yellow curries I've had in the past - Tea leaf salad: chickpeas, peanuts, tomato, sesame seeds, and some fried onion/garlic mixed in a tea leaf dressing. Very refreshing! - Mango chicken: my fav of the night! Amazing mix of sweet, savory, and spicy. I've never had cooked mango before and I'm a fan The restaurant was very colorful and full of decor inside and had plenty of seating! Walked in on a Thursday evening with no wait and experienced very quick service. The only thing is that the portion sizes were a bit small given the price, it was over $80 after tax and tip for the three dishes

We had a wonderful dinner here on a Sunday evening. Even though the place was busy, we lucked out and were seated right away, no waiting! The service here is truly exceptional. Everyone was friendly, and we were fortunate to have Shelly as our server. She is a genuinely warm person who provided perfect menu recommendations and ensured our food arrived quickly. The service was fast and attentive throughout the meal. For the food, the Noodles were the absolute highlight; they tasted fantastic and are a must-order! The Tea Leaf Salad and Chili Tofu were also delicious. (The Samusa Soup was the only item that was just average for us.) The ambiance is lovely, and for those driving, there was plenty of street parking available, which is always a plus. Highly recommend this spot!!

A staple for authentic Burmese food, verified by my Burmese peeps. Gotta get the go to's, tea leaf salad, catfish stew, chicken coconut stew, eggplant and Burmese noodles. All good every time I go. Doesn't deviate which makes this place a solid choice for Burmese everytime.

The place was so beautiful on the outside and on the inside! The restaurant was decorated with traditional ornaments and arts. The place wasn't super busy but it wasn't empty either, seemed like there were a few returning patrons from viewing their interactions. Staff were very friendly! It looked like a family establishment. The menu was very straightforward and traditional. We weren't very hungry so we only ordered a few dishes to share but wow the food was amazing! I wish we ordered more stuff. Definitely recommend all the dishes we got! Cant wait to go back and try more dishes! This place is definitely a GEM!

This was my first time eating Burmese food and it was delicious. We came here with six people there was a long line so it's important to make a reservation in advance. Especially if you come with more than one person. Our server new the menu front to back and give us some wonderful recommendations. They took into accounts are dietary restrictions we had two vegetarians and two shellfish allergies as well as lactose intolerance. We sat outside and it wasn't too bad if they had heaters. They had string lights and it was a really nice cozy vibe. No one was overly formal some people did dress up more. We tried various foods and the total came out to about 127 per person. The food was great and I would definitely come back to try other options. For me this feels like a special occasion vibes and not a weekly dinner place.

My last few visits has now put Mandalay at the top of my list for Burmese restaurants around SF. The most visit visit took place last weekend. My friend wrote her name/number on a paper wait-list, we were pleasantly surprised that a real person called to share that the table is ready. If Mandalay incorporated a digital waitlist and notification system, it'd be a real game changer! Prices have definitely gone up over the years. A tea leaf salad now costs $20! Not sure about other days of the week, but weekends they seem to include specials. Our table of 5 shared the branzino fish special, it was very unique looking, and the taste wasn't bad either. The entree included sweet/sour sauce, which isn't my fav, but others in the group liked the dish. The hit entree of the night was the spicy chicken with aspragus, everything was sauteed nicely, and not too spicy, just the right amount of kick. This paired really well with the coconut rice (rice not included, ordered rice as a side). Overall, service was attentive. They close at 9pm, last call for the kitchen was 8:40pm, and by 9:15pm, bright lights came on and most cusotmers were scrambling to leave. The staff isn't shy about ushering people out. There are a handful of Burmese restaurants in this part of SF, and Mandalay has kept up with the competition. I'll be back again in the future. #18/2025

We arrived on a busy Sunday night and thankfully were seated. They crammed 4 of us into a small table that would typically be for teo people. I noticed they were cramming the last few tables with 2 more seats as compared to the other tables that eere filled beforehand. Service is a bit too attentive as I felt we were asked the same questions 3 times. ie asked if we wanted dessert 3 times, asked about being ready to order, etc. Although, this is certainly better than bad service. We got the tea leaf salad, nan gyi dok, mandalay chicken, crispy half chicken, and 2 coconut rices. The food was fresh and quickly arrived one after the other my favorite was easily the mandalay chicken. It had so much meat and flavors mmmm. Tea leaf salad was great in that it was!'t too crunchy. Most tea leaf salads feel like they'll break my teeth and this one was fine. Overall, very delicious and top tier food.

I had been hearing about this place for a while and finally tried it. I'm so glad I did! This restaurant is absolutely worth the wait. Everything we ordered was so good! The flavors are vibrant and I could tell they use high quality ingredients, which really makes a difference (the incredible mango they use!) I'm looking forward to going back to try other items on their menu! Quick Tip: even if you join the yelp waitlist, make sure you check in with the host when you get there to make sure you're officially added to their list.

Oh my... I love this place. The food is EXCELLENT. So many delicious flavors with fresh and aromatic ingredients. The service is great; accommodating and professional. The atmosphere is cool. Somewhat casual, but very decorative and almost festive. I recommend trying everything on the menu! I've been here twice, and I shall return.

Hard review to write. Probably more of a 3.5 review rounded up…read more Jump to service if you want to get into the main reason why. Quality/Quantity - We had a large group, thank you for accommodating. I believe we made reservations, where we would not be seated until everyone showed up. Good thing the group all showed up on time (for once, lol). Ordered the following for our table, our other table had our larger half of the group. But due to the door mishap, I did not want to walk over to take pictures of their food/order. Okonomiyaki Fries - Was too soggy for me, but everyone else on our table enjoyed it. Popcorn Salmon - I did not enjoy this, but everyone else on both tables loved it, so it was "a me problem." Boneless Fried Chicken - I enjoyed it, but no one else did?!?! I guess I have very different tastes from this group...? Tonkatsu Ramen - Good. But very basic. Beef Short Rib Plate - Three orders, both people enjoyed it. Actually, our young eater ate 1.5 of this plate, 1/2 from his mom's order. This order also came with a side salad and steamed rice. Bulgogi Plate - I can't remember if I got my rice?!?! Well, the beef was of decent quantity, I actually brought a little back home for leftovers, with the boneless fried chicken. At home, it was a little too salty, too much soy sauce. Sizzling Bibimbap - My daughter's dish which was also good. I believe she had leftovers. Our other table got the regular bibimbap, they said next time they will try the sizzling as they felt that was better. Lastly, our guest on the other table ordered one of each dessert for both tables. Mango Panna Cotta & Chocolate Tartufo - I am not a chocolate person, but enjoyed the Tartufo better. Our guest wanted Soju! The first time, so we ended up ordering two hot larges. Smooth and went down too easily. I then finished my meal with a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. Boy I miss this beer, I have not had in a while. Too busy supporting local breweries. Overall, the food was just okay for me and my daughter. Ambiance - Outside looks good, and new. Love the menus and the happy hour information. Might come back for HH. Small local restaurant. A few tables and bar seating. Clean restrooms, two unisex. Street metered parking, free after 6pm. Plenty of street parking. Service - Okay, the front door has issues... It stays open, then does NOT close. It is slanted, so you have to "force" it to close. When we ALL got here, I guess we left the front door open by accident. Well, the waitress did NOT appreciate that (I stayed outside taking my Yelp pictures while everyone else walked in). She gave me a LOOK... While I was still outside, more people came in and I tried to close the door for them and because the door is slanted, it did not close and had to be "forced" resulting in a slam, sorry. Got another look... After that, I went straight to my seat. Menus on the table. Price - Expensive, or did we order too much? I think our bill with tax and tip came out to almost $800. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2017; look forward to trying your happy hour.

Everything -- from food to service, to ambience -- was EXCELLENT through and through. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a wait staff immediately. We were seated at a bar height table as requested. And throughout the evening, the wait staff was helpful, courteous and attentive. They did not miss a beat in offering us water refill, checking on us, or changing our plates. Excellent service!! Between the three of us, we offered a variety of appetizer and dishes; what stands out is the quality of their ingredients, and the sophistication and perfection in their usage of spices, creating excellent and balanced flavors. * Spring Roll wrap - A must order dish. Perfectly fried spring roll with lettuce wrap and spiced dipping sauce. Excellent! * Clay Pot rice - I really like the clay pot rice here. They use Chinese sausage and the flavorful pork neck meat, over fragrant jasmine rice.. it was cooked for perfection and packed with flavors. Note, their clay pot rice does not come with crispy rice bottom, but just ask if you want it. ;) * Beef Tartare- excellent flavor and soft fresh beef tartare... so good! * Blue Shrimp Ceviche - another dish that highlights their culinary expertise. Sashimi- grade blue shrimp in their special sauce.. well balanced flavor and just perfect! * A highlight was definitely their sake and cocktail list... they have plenty of good drinks here. My default is their Lychee Drink and the blue bottle sake. Always a good choice and Le Soleil offers the perfect setting for great friends to gather and have a few drinks! A very happy evening dining at Le Soleil. We will be back very soon!!!

Water pitchers was refilled throughout. It did take a while for staff to pick up empty plate once we were finished with dishes since they dropped orders so quickly into service, but not a huge deal. Overall a nice spot for a modern twist on Vietnam cuisine, the chicken and beef were the stand out dishes for us, so give those a try if you decide to visit. Paid with blackbird on my visit and spent the minimum to get the free Bo lac bac which was a nice added bonus.

Everything about the ordering process and the quality of the food itself was good but not great. There was no wow factor or anything that left me feeling extra motivated to return, but I also wouldn't be opposed if I were nearby and craving onigiri. There's a single kiosk in-store to order at, but you can also place an order with the person working the counter if it's not too busy. I wasn't sure what I wanted immediately, so I waited for one of my friends to finish before ordering. I added 1 unagi eel, 1 unagi onigiri, and 1 crab onigiri to my basket and checked out. I have absolutely no idea what's the difference between "unagi eel" and "unagi onigiri", and when I went to pick up my order, the staff member told me my order was two unagi and one crab. However, I was charged $4.50 for the unagi eel and $4.30 for the unagi onigiri, so go figure. I could not detect a difference between the two, and the price of each averaged out to $4.40, so it's whatever. I unwrapped one of the unagi onigiris to eat in-store as we waited for a Zoox to arrive. It was actually pretty difficult to extricate the seaweed and rice ball filling in one piece to consume together, which I presume is because the onigiris are each made-to-order and due to the freshness, the separate ingredients haven't had a chance to marinate and congeal together. As I had not eaten all day, I quickly devoured the onigiris before and after our short ride back to a café where some of our other friends were waiting. The onigiris were, as I mentioned before, pretty standard minus the fact they kind of fell apart. I would say if you like onigiris, then these will get the job done, but they're nothing exceptional, so keep your standards at baseline.

really cool dining that feels like it takes you out of SF momentarily for a great meal…read more very large and spacious with plenty of seating right in the heart of japantown. as the name suggests, fermentation is the game, and all of their vegetables are packed with flavor. the braised short rib had fantastic texture, and the uni pasta was stunningly fresh and like none other i'd ever had. certainly a great date spot without going too crazy on your wallet and actually enjoying the food.

UGH I LOVE CANTONESE FOOD…read more we waited in line before opening at 5pm on a saturday and was able to sit within 90 minutes! wait this was my first time trying escargot and why did it taste so good...if i had to describe it it tasted like clams which i did not expect. the xo sauce was amazing with it. the milk bread that came with it was so fluffy and soft too lapmei bo zai fan was so good too i love the soy sauce they used. the lap yuk was a little fatty but the lap cheong was perfect. so much fan ziu too the fried squab lowkeyy tasted like hot dog tbh LOL i like siu ap a lot more. also just get the small squab (it's $10 cheaper and the waitress said she can't rly tell the size diff) there wasn't really that much meat tho... and then guys u cannot skip the red bean shaved ice oh my god. i didn't even know there was gonna be boba and ice cream inside but this was sooo good. i loveeee red bean the complimentary cucumber and peanuts were yum too a very nicely decorated interior and our waitress was so sweet!

I've been wanting to come here for a minute! It's been a tough reservation for me but love that…read morethey're poppin after all this time. They're known for their squab. The rabbit was SO good. I normally don't love hainanese chicken (their cold chicken small bite) but there's is fire. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE JELLFYFISH WITH HOT MUSTARD. Or the escargot for that matter. Dip that milk bread in that buttery garlic chili oil goodness. I'm literally getting hungry writing this as we speak. Everyone was so friendly, Jane was super helpful and nice when we asked questions about menu items. Wish I caught everyone else's name too, very welcoming spot. Heads up; not a huge spot, so I wouldn't recommend for a group bigger than 4. Come here, it's a must! Definitely grab a Rez if you can.

Snagged a table here on a Friday afternoon in the patio. I love the concept of the restaurant,…read morereally fun tapas and drinks! Between the two of us we ordered the makgeolli flight, tea flight, soy vin pickles, honey butter chips, rigatoni alla kimchi vodka, and pork jowl jeyuk. The food was good and so was the service!

Only reason for 4 stars is because I'm not convinced the prices are worth the portions…read more However, the food, service, and vibes were 5 stars! My friend got the makgeolli drink flight. I had one tiny sip of each. (I don't drink.) But my favorite one was "rice to meet you" which the server said is one of their most popular ones. It tasted like Milkis to me, very sweet. Three of us shared (and slightly over ordered) the below: Maitake fries - lightly fried mushrooms (delicious) Seoul crudo - delicious Perilla oil noodle - cold light noodle dish (good but not memorable to me) Wagyu beef tartare - good flavor but not my fave version of tartare. I like when the beef is smaller pieces or minced Rigatoni - delicious and even though the portion is smaller, it can be filling Pork jowl - delicious but on the heavier side since it's fatty KFC - tasty but not very unique to me (side of pickles are yummy but you can order those alone if you don't want the fried chicken) Banana panna cotta - SO delicious that after the 3 of us shared one, we each ordered an additional one to go...I love banana, and I love panna cotta, so this was my fave from the night! Service was very friendly. We ate outside, and they never forgot about us. I was 30 minutes early for our reservation, and luckily I was able to sit at our table and wait. The outdoor patio is cute with string lights and heaters, but it's uncovered so we got lightly misted on. Bring a coat if you eat outside just in case, but my table mates got too hot from the heat lamps while I loved it. Would come back to get the dishes I liked the most.
