I ordered nan gyi thoke from DoorDash and but look what is that? Is this called nan gyi toke? Don't they know what is nan gyi thoke and what is coconut noodles? That's very bad.

*Note: TDLR at the end of the review Coconut Chicken Soup: 8/10 The noodles, aromatics, and toppings come in a separate plate. The broth itself comes in a bowl with small pieces of chicken. The broth was nice and rich. You can really taste the coconut milk and the curry isn't too strong. It's not a clear broth and has little bit of texture which I think is really interesting. They also bring you chili powder and soy sauce if you would like to add any. It's a good soup, but not mind blowing. For $17-$18, I like a little more meat in my dishes, but just personal preference! Service: 8/10 Sorta had to get their attention to order, but the server checked up on me and was quick with any requests I had. They were friendly, but nothing spectacular. Ambiance: 8/10 Super spacious and clean. It's nicely decorated and has amble seating. I arrived an hour before closing (which is totally my fault) and I felt a bit rushed the entire time. TDLR: Coconut Chicken Soup is great especially on a cold night, but not a lot of meat. Tad on the pricier side. Portion is great though. Service is good and restaurant is clean and spacious.

Nice and quiet Burmese restaurant located at the top of the hill in Daly City, there is some street parking and it might be hard to find parking in the neighborhood. It's a nice spot to have dinner and catch up with friends, service is good you either get hot tea or water. And it's not too busy. We got their tea leaf salad, coconut chicken noodle soup, chicken and potato curry with roti, and pan fried egg noodle with chicken (reminded me of Filipino pancit). The portions were pretty good and the food was fresh. I wasn't that big of a fan of their tea leaf salad. It was nice and spacious inside too and we didn't feel rushed.

Crunchy, fresh, and delicious tea leaf salad! Don't skip the lime. Fresh homemade cooking, and the owner is incredibly kind

Crunchy, fresh, and absolutely delicious tea leaf salad! A wonderful mix of flavors in every bite. Don't forget to squeeze the lime; it brings everything together. Fresh homemade cooking, and the owner is incredibly kind! He made us feel at home. He shared that the tea leaf salad is just like his mom and grandma made it.

Food is delicious, service is fine. Ambiance is just ok. Portion sizes are quite small.

Went on a Thursday at 7:30pm, the place had plenty of seating. We were serviced immediately and given insightful recommendations about what the signature dishes were. I enjoyed the roti, and the chicken slid right off the bone. The tea leaf salad was also pretty good. Interior is clean and spacious.

Went to Burma Silver Star with a Burmese friend. Let me start with my friends comment: this is one of the most authentic Burmese food he has tasted in a while! (That's pretty high commendation). We ordered tea leaves salad, burmese tea, samosa, lamb stew and balala (?sticky rice desert) The food taste awesome. It was just the service is a bit slow as it looks like a mom and pop family shop. There are plenty of seating inside and on street parking. Highly recommend!

Burma Superstar? Nah, the true Burmese Star is here! We ate a variety of dishes, including two of their specials: Shan Noodles and Mandalay Noodles. The specials are on their Facebook page, "Burma Silver Star Restaurant (Little Yangon)". Everything was delicious, with some flavors that were indescribable. Some highlights were the Burmese Mango Pickle Salad and the two specials. Stellar service too, the waitress gave great recs and was very attentive. The hospitable owner/chef also chatted with us about the restaurant and opened the door for us when we were done eating. Don't let the nondescript exterior fool you, RUN don't walk to this amazing family-owned restaurant!

My friend and I arrived at 10am and both ordered the Burmese Fish Chowder Soup from the breakfast menu. We wanted to have breakfast/brunch since we're going hiking afterwards and the price is cheaper for breakfast. Only $10.99 instead of around $15 during lunch. It's a good deal for breakfast since it was a good portion size despite having very few pieces of fish. The one on the plate is sliced fish ball and no bones. A few small pieces in the soup but soup was very yummy so I drank all of it. It is not spicy which I prefer. There is also vermicelli noodles on the plate that we added to the soup, sliced egg, and crispy toppings. No tea leaf salad on the breakfast menu though and they only provide wooden disposable chopsticks instead of the real ones. Service is ok since waitress asked if we want water or tea but didn't mention tea is not complimentary like at some Chinese restaurants until I asked for clarification. A lot of interesting decorations. There is 1 co-ed restroom. Meter parking outside but we got lucky and parked at a broken meter!

Soe is a great chef and made us feel so welcomed.

I found Burma Silver Star via ChatGPT and I am so glad I did. We celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday last night with over 20 family and friends and Burma Silver Star was the perfect location. The staff as warm, welcoming, accommodating, and full of joy. It felt like being at grandma's house. We felt at home and were treated with care. As a group with vegetarian, vegans, and food allergies they did an amazing job of assuring everyone could eat. The food was fresh, flavorful and so filling. Thank you all for the excellent service. We will be back. If you are considering a place for delicious food where you can be completely satisfied and treated with care, this is the place. Shout out to the owner Soe. He came out and greeted everyone in my family to show his appreciation for us supporting his business. This made me remember why I love The Bay. This is what old school Bay Area culture felt like. So glad to be able to tap into that good energy

My new favorite place for comfort food. I ordered the coconut chicken noodle soup which was creamy and savory. There were hearty chucks of chicken and noodles in the soup along with a few sides. The noddles come separately with sides which you add to your broth. Very large portion that you can easily share. My partner ordered the egg curry and vegetables. Which came in a delicious curry sauce and had okra. He also ordered a side of coconut rice which had a slight sweetness to it. Every bite was so delectable. He devoured the whole dish. The owner gave us complimentary samosa which were very delightful. Amazing spices mixed in mashed potatoes. I would recommend them. Such a lovely place with lots of seating inside. The owner and wait staff are very friendly and you can tell this is a wonderful place to come and enjoy food with family and friends. We couldn't get enough of our food and were even more thrilled to get a chance to speak to the owner and hear his stories about living in Burma. Such a sweet and kind individual who honestly loves his family and his restaurant.

I would say 4 stars is generous--definitely somewhere in between a 3.5 & 4 in terms of food--dependent on what you order. Service was good & attentive. We got there around noon just before the lunch rush and it was empty. Within a short window the tables started filling up. They have a great variety of foods, curries, rice & noodle dishes. We ordered the tealeaf salad, chicken curry potatoes with pratha & home style fried rice. Everything we ordered had good flavor but there were a few observations--the tealeaf salad was delicious, however, I thought it was too salty and too much citrus or fish sauce--there was quite a tang...my entire party agreed with me. Despite that, I still consider the salad to be quite tasty. Next came the curry chicken & pratha. I loved the flaky doughy pancake. The curry had good flavor too, however, the sauce was a little thin, as in watery--not watered down. I was hoping for something with a creamier consistency. The fried rice was very delicious, it was served with a scrambled egg on top--this was probably my favorite of all the dishes we ordered. If you're near Top of the Hill Daly City, it's worth checking out. They're not far from the intersection of John Daly and Mission.

Highly highly recommend Burma Silver Star Restaurant in Daly City! Visiting family in SF and happened to choose this restaurant out of the many Burmese places around, and very glad we did. Whether you are in Daly City itself or coming from the city, it's just a short drive away. For us, it was as short a drive from where we are in SF as it is to visit other neighborhoods actually in SF. Parking was easy to find with plenty around the corner. The restaurant was very clean and the owner was super welcoming and friendly, and shared a lot of interesting info about Burma and Burmese cuisine. Hot, fresh tea was plentiful and extremely welcome on a chilly, foggy evening. The food was amazing, too. We shared a Tealeaf Salad, Samosa (4pcs), Chicken Curry Potatoes with Pratha, and Faluda for dessert. Their tea leaf salad was a great and especially fresh rendition, with well-balanced flavors and awesome crunch. It's hard to go wrong with samosas, and these were particularly good; piping hot and crispy with a perfectly seasoned filling. The curry was a new dish for us and we loved it. Mild yet flavorful, and supremely comforting. The paratha were, of course, buttery and addictive. The dessert was another new dish for us and we weren't sure how we'd feel about the rose, but we ended up loving it. The rose was the perfect amount, not heavy-handed at all, and the whole thing was kind of like a Burmese halo-halo; all in all, very fun to eat. Don't normally leave restaurant reviews but had to for this one. Cannot say enough good things and definitely recommend Burma Silver Star Restaurant!

There are so many amazing dishes but I would really recommend coming with a group and experiencing this spot family style. That's the way to do it. Parking can be tough so it's not a bad idea to take alternative transit options. Also this spot can be super packed at popular dinner and lunch hours like on the weekend. For the salads I highly recommend the tea leaf salad especially if you've never had it before. It's quite unique. The mango salad is quite good too with the unripen mangos so it isn't super sweet. It has a zesty dressing. The rainbow salad is good but it's more like a cold noodle dish and less greens so depends on what you are looking for. The samusa soup is good! The coconut chicken soup and noodle dishes used to be my favorite thing on the menu. But now it's a little to heavy, creamy, and rich for me. I would recommend sharing this one because it's so tasty. I love their coconut rice great with any of their curries or to complement the protein dishes. The garlic noodles don't wow me but they're good and great to go with a meal. The sesame chicken is good and tangy but it is breaded chicken. So depends on if you are up for that. The chili lamb is super good and so is the beef curry. They have a rice dish with chicken and shrimp that is good too. If you are okay with sweet things the mango chicken is good. And then they have some spicy dishes that are good if you like the spice. I don't love their green beans which is sad because I usually like this style of green beans which. They're a little spicy for my taste but maybe that's exactly what you are looking for. Burma superstar is honestly a comfort place for me at this point.

The service was quick and friendly, and ambiance was homey! We got the garlic noodles (which I think might be more of an Asian fusion thing that is popular in the Bay Area), which I enjoyed. There seemed like there was minced crispy fried garlic on top of the noodles. We also had the pumpkin curry, which I have had before in homemade Southeast Asian food, but my friend hadn't seen that before on menus. He even gave us complimentary ice cream because our friends took us here. When I worked less than three blocks away, over 40 years ago, my coworkers and I occasionally lunched here and had dinner a time or two. The restaurant was a client of my employer. Plus, a coworker was Burmese which made ordering a lot easier. Besides a dinner sometime after that with an out-of-state friend, I returned for a family style dinner for 4-5 of us. After reuniting with some friends from grammar school days, five of us found an opportune time to meet for a Friday dinner reunion here. Having a 6:15 pm reservation, I dropped the other guests off at the restaurant as I looked for parking, fortunate in finding a space kitty-corner from the restaurant. Our party of five was seated at a table next to the cash register in the rear right section. The menu is two sided on one page besides specials that our server told us about. Given the size of our group, we ordered a family style meal with the assistance of our server. I started with the Burmese iced tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=YOqKQksvSOR1owQB_AVC9Q). It is very similar to the other popular Southeast Asian country's iced tea made with condensed milk. Frankly, I can't tell the difference. For our meal, we shared the following, family style: Starters a. Samusa, chicken (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=KPy5vCVpV1-o07ZRr9b02w) - A mix of grounded curried chicken and potatoes. b. Tea leaf salad (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Rhym78L97Qsu5O_z2GrpDA) - Salad prepared with imported Burmese tea leaves, toasted with lentil seeds, grounded shrimp, fried garlic, green pepper, sesame seeds, peanuts, and dressing (grounded shrimp and peanuts were kept separate due to a diner's allergies). One of their signature dishes, the mix of ingredients meshed well together. Here's what it looks after tossing (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=eOxyeZVzAEg7l9Rn-Z9MSw). Since I was okay with the segregated ingredients, I added them to my plate (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=yupuArsIAGajITrJDPZ6tA). Mains c. Chili beef (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=qOwue_tSXqFp9d91XL5Y-Q) - One of the three specials that we tried, this was a stir fry of tender beef pieces with a variety of peppers, spicy and not. Jalapenos, red and yellow bell peppers, Szechuan peppercorns, and green onions. The flavors are bold and the beef was tender. If you are spice sensitive, do be wary of the jalapenos, peppercorns, and the peppers with seeds. d. House special lambchop (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=vuYo_HzCnoLKQoy-S6J0Fg) - Another of the daily specials, this was an interesting presentation. The lambchops were cooked medium well, tender and nicely seasoned. There was a bed of sauteed onions and red and yellow peppers in the center as well as asparagus spears. Everyone enjoyed this since this isn't a very common protein. e. Dry pan fried green bean (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=DfkySvWpTorA_rM1sRjZxg) - Pan fried string beans, ginger, chili sauce, and grounded shrimp (withheld do to food allergy); very clean dish and the green beans were cooked perfectly, still crunchy. f. Country chicken (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=jrBMsj9mkMP3GhNWKXkqHg) - The third of the daily specials, this was a bone-in chicken, half I believe, that included a drumstick and thigh covered in likely a green curry sauce (wasn't described and we didn't ask since our conversation was too engaging). It came with serving of rice topped with fried garlic and pickled vegetables. I was already pretty full after the above and the noodles to come so I only had one serving. g. Mandalay special noodle (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=9UOv1twqqT_iRFdwRRuRZg) - Burmese flat noodle with mild coconut chicken, yellow peas powder, lime juice, onion, and fried thin noodle on the top. Like the tea salad, this came to the table deconstructed and the server tossed the dish like the salad. The dining room was a little more than half full when we arrived, filled up as we dined, and about 3/4 full when we left almost two hours later. The servers (several) were responsive in removing empty plates and refilling water glasses. The outdoor dining area was also about half full when I arrived with only one table used when we left. We enjoyed our meal as the dinner organizer who lives in the neighborhood recently dined with another friend, having a nice meal too. Looking forward to returning and trying more menu items.

The inside has tons of seating available and bright natural lighting. We came on a weeknight during their happy hour (!!), which is 20% off appetizers every week night between 3-6pm. Our party of three ordered mainly apps, and only deviated off that section to try their tea leaf salad :P Fried tofu - crisp and light Coconut chicken with palatha - sweeter curry, loved the flakiness and thicc-ness of the paratha Lamb curry with palatha - hearty curry sauce Salt and pepper chicken - dino nugget-esque with a nice crunch and perfect seasoning and didn't actually need the dipping sauce it comes with. Note: the dipping sauce does contain fish Chicken lettuce cups - fine taste, no notes Veg samosas - fine also, basic Tea leaf salad - ordered for the health and textural crunch. So delicious Service was good. Our waitress was very informative in each dish and also quite attentive with refiling waters. Overall, great meal and would love to return to try their mains.

I'm writing this review as a mom who brought her two kids, ages 10 and 5, here for lunch--and Burma…read moreLove was easily a 10/10 for all of us! For the kids, we ordered the sesame chicken and plain garlic noodles, and they genuinely could not stop raving about the food between bites. My 10-year-old officially declared Burma Love her new favorite restaurant, and of course, her 5-year-old brother immediately had to confirm that he agreed. I ordered the tea leaf salad and samosa soup for myself. The samosa soup was absolutely fabulous--rich, flavorful, and so satisfying--and the tea leaf salad was lovely as well. Everything we ordered was delicious, and finding a restaurant that both I AND my kids are this excited about is always a win. We will absolutely be back. Easily a 10/10!

A great first impression. I never had Burmese food before and recently found this place going…read morethrough yelp; I was surprised how highly reviewed it was and decided to give it a try. Parking for this location was very difficult, especially when you visit on a busy day. The atmosphere is moody and dark which is perfect for a date night. I ordered - Burma Chicken Mint - Nan Pia Dok - Tea leaf salad We started off with the tea salad since it was highly suggested by our waiter. I love the amount of toppings they add onto the salad and having it served table side is even better. For the salad, it was more savory and the flavor was light which helped bring out the salad more; which is a positive. The Nan Pia Dok noodles were also served table side and honestly, this was good but not quite extraordinary. Eventually halfway, the noodles lost its flavor and just felt like stir fried noodles with toppings. This was also more of a savory dish. The Burma Chicken Mint dish was also somewhat delicious but fell short towards the end as it tasted exactly what it looks like. It's not bad but does get boring fast. If you love spicy food then I highly recommend getting this; otherwise it's not really for me. The service is honestly top notch, can't really complain when the person serving you the salad is extremely friendly which breaks the awkward silence every now and then. Overall, I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes as I'm venturing into newer territory, and honestly that's okay. The service and food was decent enough for me to give it another chance. The salad was honestly the best thing to get here.

Family friendly but also sophisticated, with great ambient lighting for mood--bustling on a Friday…read morenight. We had a variety of veggie dishes: the yellow pea fried tofu is a must have: the chili sauce it comes with understated, and the "tofu" slices themselves melt in your mouth like custard, unlike any tofu we've had. The samosa soup was also off the hook delicious--savory and tangy, and our other dishes: tea leaf salad and palata bread were quite good. Were burmese fans and highly recommend!

If I could give 0 stars, I would…read more I ordered takeout consisting of garlic noodles with pork substituted for chicken (and paid almost $3 extra for the substitution), basil chili chicken, and mango chicken. Unfortunately, there were problems with every dish: 1. Extremely small portions: The basil chicken and mango chicken portions were ridiculously small. Around 80% of the container was just onions, and the containers were only about 70% full. For the price, this is unacceptable. 2. Almost no chicken in the garlic noodles: The garlic noodles had literally only two tiny pieces of chicken. I cannot believe I paid almost $3 extra to substitute pork with chicken and received basically no chicken at all. 3. Unbelievably salty: Both the garlic noodles and basil chicken were so salty that they were inedible. I had to rinse them with water five times, and then re-cook them myself just to make them edible. I've never had to do this with takeout before. The food wasn't just disappointing in terms of flavor and portion size--the biggest issue is that it feels like the restaurant is being extremely stingy while still charging fairly high prices. Poor portions, excessive salt, and very little meat. Definitely not worth the price, and I would not order from here again.

Only a few minutes from my house, but honestly feels like stepping back into a simpler time. Like…read morewhen you're little and walking into a cozy little kitchen-type place with your family. You walk in hungry and leave happy and satisfied. The food is seriously so good. Their roasted garlic noodles (you can get it dry or as a soup) are amazing, and the chicken curry is another favorite. Everything tastes fresh and you can actually taste the ingredients, not just the seasoning. The dining area is small, quaint, and has such a cozy feel. The service is always warm and welcoming. One of those hidden gems that just feels special. Great food, affordable prices, and a place you'll want to keep coming back to.

Food here is great! But there are other things that stop me from coming back…read more I've tried most of the curries and a good amount of appetizers and other dishes. My favorite is the coconut curry chicken noodle soup! As amazing as delicious as the food was, a lot of it is pretty oily, esp the curries. I've had to scoop out spoonfuls of oil. Or when I take home left overs, I will put it in the fridge for the oil/fat to solidify and then scoop it out. Tealeaf salad is one of my favorite salads of all time but, it is a hit or miss - sometimes it's on point but a few times have been too salty. Over the years, it has gotten painfully expensive for the portion sizes they serve. Some dishes even cost more, but sides were taken out. You basically are paying more for your dish, but for less food than before the price increase. Tealeaf salad is now a whomping $17!!! In the 3 years I've been coming here, there have been 2-3 price increases. As much as I loved coming here, sadly, I do not think that it is worth it anymore.
