I declined it but didn't think much and scheduled my follow-up. For my next dental visit several months later I had the same experience as another reviewer here, where Dr. B told me my teeth were in terrible shape and I needed a deep cleaning. I thought this was weird as I take very good care of my teeth, and the ironic thing is that while the dental hygienist was looking at my teeth during the same appointment they commented on how I had very minimal plaque buildup. I told them I wanted to get the regular cleaning like I had scheduled but they refused to do it that day and told me we had to reschedule it on a separate day for me to come back and for me to think about the deep cleaning. This was super frustrating as I had already taken off work for my regular cleaning and I was leaving without one. The worst part was as I was leaving, the front desk receptionist took another 10 minutes of my time to give me a long pitch of why I should buy the deep cleaning and how their establishment is not out to make money, etc. It made me extremely uncomfortable and confused. To no surprise, the estimate of the deep cleaning came out to be over 400 dollars out of pocket. My relationship has also since ended with them and I will not be returning. This behavior felt discriminatory and deeply disrespectful. Patients should never be judged or categorized based on their insurance policy. Dental offices are supposed to be safe, welcoming environments where people can trust professionals during what can already be a vulnerable experience. This encounter made me feel unsafe, unseen, and devalued as a patient. It takes very little effort to show kindness and extend the same basic courtesies to everyone -- especially when providing a paid service. No doctor should model or tolerate discriminatory behavior within their practice. I recently got invisilyn braces and had the choice to either remove a tooth or file a lot of my teeth to make space for the shifting. The orthodontist recommended that I take out a tooth for the best looking results. I checked with Dr. Lee before making my decision and he informed me of some of the problems he saw with people who pulled out a tooth. When I mentioned this to my orthodontist, he acknowledged that it could be something that comes up and that my dentist was very knowledgeable. I'm very glad I got the advice to go with the filing instead of taking out a tooth. I continue going there because of the trust I have in him and the friendliness of the staff.
