I was referred to Si through a friend and she was AMAZING!! I was really impressed how skilled and confident she was given that my dress was pretty detailed. To be exact, this was my wedding dress (http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/runway/detail/122279). it was a sample size 8 and I am more like a size 2/4 so i was really worried about the lace detailing and applique. She did a great job and you coudn't even tell it had been altered! And she was also very reasonable in terms of cost. The store I had bought the dress from (Glamour Closet) told me that alterations through their tailors would be about $500. Si ended up charging me $350. Si does a beautiful job with alterations! My dress had a dropped waist with ruching and an applique around the middle, and I wanted that entire middle section of the dress lifted up so it lies more at a natural waist. With all the extra details in the midsection of my dress, it was actually a pretty complicated job, but Si did it beautifully and you can't tell the dress had anything done to it at all. She even spruced up the applique a little, and it blended in beautifully :) read more

I had a very positive experience working with Si. I had an event coming up within three weeks, so I called her to ask if she could squeeze me in to hem and take in three of my dresses. She had very limited availability because she's a one-woman shop who works out of her home, and apparently I called her in the middle of wedding season. I had to take a half day to squeeze in my first appointment during a weekday lunchtime, but it was worth it - Si took her time discussing my options for the dresses and she was very straightforward / up front about what she could do for me, given the constraints of the fabric/cut. The cost was definitely a bit pricier than I expected, but if I needed something a bit more complicated, I would definitely request Si's services. read more

Si is amazing! I love the work that she did with my wedding dress and my traditional Vietnamese dress. She had altered by heavily beaded size 12 wedding dress down to size for me. She was able to work her magic and size down the dress so that it fit me to a tee without undoing or ruining any of the intricate bead work. She was very careful and made sure that I was happy with the fit before actually sewing and cutting the fabric. I also had her work on several of my bridesmaids dresses along with my mom's traditional Vietnamese dress. All of my family and bridesmaids found her to be really sweet and accommodating to our wants and needs. She was able to transform some dresses into different designs based on my ideas. I believe she is less pricey than most seamstresses and does very detailed, thorough, and amazing work. Her quote was about half as much as another seamstress I met with. I had a lovely Anne Barge dress that needed to have a bustle and boning put in the front to have it lay more flat. She did an awesome job! She also made the bustle color coded which made it very easy to deal with on a very hectic day. We also had Si do the alterations on my Chinese cheong sam and the groom and groomsmen's suits. I am an upcoming bridesmaid in a wedding in Canada and had a hand made dress done for me. The dress maker was living in Canada at the time where the bride lives and then moved to Columbia. Earlier this year, I had to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed. I procrastinated and waited until the week of the wedding, so I was in a bit of a panic but Si fit me into her schedule and even put in some support pads in the breast area when she saw that the dress itself wasn't providing enough structure. A part of the boning in the dress was also twisted inside the dress when it was shipped to me, and I was worried that I would have to pay a bunch to have someone take apart the dress to replace it, but Si played around with it a little and it actually fixed itself. I was expecting to pay ~$100 for everything, but I paid about $30 for everything, including the materials. Si was a lifesaver - she got everything fixed sooner than expected, and had me try the dress on before I took it home. She did an amazing job on everything (some of the other bridesmaids got their dresses butchered), and I would definitely go to her for any alterations I need in the future. read more

First of all, I got married in 2004 which was years ago. But I remember how professional and nice Si was. I ordered my wedding dress online and luckily it fitted almost perfectly - but it needed hemming (2 layers), taken in an inch or so on the side, plus a bustle. Go to Si. Trust me, this woman is amazing. I called her in a panic after I realized I had mixed up the dates of a wedding I was in--and I only had three days to get my dress altered. She told me she could fit me in and I rushed over. She knew exactly what needed to be altered after I put the dress on and she was extremely attentive to detail. And the best part? She finished all of the alterations overnight and I was able to pick the dress up the next afternoon. The dress looked and fit perfectly and I didn't have to fuss with it or pull it up all night. Si is amazing!!!!! I bought my wedding dress and needed it taken in on the sides, cups added, and a bustle done. My dress had heavy beading, and needed to be handled delicately. I needed the dress taken in the sides and the boob area, which meant that the sides had to be taken apart, as did the beading, but Si did an amazing job. You can't even tell that the dress was taken apart at all! It looks just like when I bought it! It fits perfectly to my body as well. I couldn't ask for a better fit! Si was recommended to me by a coworker and I am so glad that she was. I bought my dress off the rack (bought as 2 sizes bigger) and since then I have lost some more weight. Si had to take my dress down by about 10 inches in the bodice. In doing so she was able to do it without disturbing much of the detail. My final fitting is coming up and I can't wait to see it. I didn't shop around for other seamstresses because I was recommended by 2 other people to go to Si. She was very professional and did a wonderful job in altering my dresses. The French bustle to my dress had 4 different hooks and she color coordinated it to make it easier to figure out how to work it. There was a lot of fabric, material, and appliqués at the bottom of my dress. I was afraid that altering the dress length would take away from the design and make it look entirely different. Si was able to get my dress to be the perfect length without destroying the image. She was also very aware of the fact that the length of the dress would be affected by being outdoors. I never would have thought about that, but she was very meticulous about making sure I wasn't going to trip over the front of my dress while walking in grass...yet making sure the dress wasn't too short in front while I was walking on hardwood. She also altered my Chinese dress, but that one wasn't as complicated to alter so she was able to do it quickly. read more

Si altered my wedding dress in 2012. I gave her an EXTREMELY complicated job. I had two lace dresses that were both too small for me, and she combined both dresses seamlessly to make it look like that had been one dress the whole time. Again, these dresses were completely lace, with a very intricate pattern and beading and she stitched them together so that even I couldn't tell where she added material. Her work was incredible. Next, within the month of my wedding I discovered that I got a little chubbier and freaked out because my dress didn't fit anymore. I called Si, and she fit me into her busy schedule and altered the dress AGAIN for the big day. I also gave her another complicated job: she made for me a lace shrug out of the leftover lace from my dresses. It was absolutely beautiful and she made it just for me! Her prices were also MUCH better than another place I looked at for alterations - by less than half of the other guy's price. She works from home and she is very experienced and good at her work, so she can get quite busy, especially during peak wedding season, but if you can get an appointment with her, I strongly recommend her! read more

If you can get her to alter your dress you can take a huge sigh (Si!) of relief and rejoice knowing the dress will be perfect for your wedding day! I called in March I think and she was totally booked...she had time for me in August for my September wedding which worked out perfectly since brides have a tendency to gain/lose weight if they get their dresses altered too early. She needs 3 days during 3 consecutive weeks to get the job done. She doesn't advertise (only takes calls from yelpers or knotties she said) and is completely modest with her prices. Most places were quoting me $500+ and Si said she could get the job done for $200. She did a LOT of work (taking in the sides, hemming the entire thing and adding a bustle) . She's simply amazing at her craft and is friendly, honest and won't be happy until you're completely happy. What a gem. My strapless dress fit like a glove and didn't slip at all. Si is wonderful at her craft and a super conscientious and nice person (which is at least equally as important as her skill). A few months ago, I brought one of our flower girl dresses to Si to get lengthened - she did a great job and even re-designed the dress (at my request) a bit so that we liked it even more. We ended up bringing in the other 2 flower girl dresses to be altered in exactly the same way. Both times, I think it took less than 2 weeks to get the dresses back in hand - perfectly reasonable since we had plenty of time. We asked her if she would be able to make a custom suit for our 2 ringbearers, but she was honest and didn't take the job b/c she just didn't have the time. I respect her honesty and appreciated that she provided a name of someone who might be able to help. We ended up finding the ringbearer suits on etsy.com, but Si still wound up making a few adjustments on it - and the suit was perfect. What really drives Si apart from everyone else though is what a super nice person she is. I ended up having a nightmare of an experience with my wedding dress alterations person and called Si less than a week before I was leaving for the wedding to see if she could help. She was obviously booked (since June is prom AND wedding season) but she looked and looked at her schedule and just told me to update her on the situation and she would help if she could. She warned me that it would be difficult to fix something that someone else started, and again I appreciated her honesty. I wish I had taken my dress to Si in the first place. The only reason I took the dress where I did was based on a recommedation from the dress shop where I purchased my dress -- the biggest mistake of my entire wedding planning experience. Beware of Glamour Closet's recommendations! And stay away from Janene's Bridal Shop in Alameda! I told Si how much I spent for my alterations at Janene's (over $500) and she was floored - and could not believe my dress was still not ready one day before I was leaving for my wedding. I trust Si completely. She works pretty restricted hours if you need to be at the office regular hours (8-5) but she is totally worth it. read more

I had a dress with a complicated lace appliqu overlay and she took out the whole thing and re applied it in order to do the hem without changing the shape of the dress. I didn't notice anything different except that the fact that it now fit perfectly! she sewed in cups which was really nice and for my bustle, she hid the hooks and even color coordinated them for my BMaids. She also did alterations for them (hemming, pulling in the top) for a really good price. She notices all the little details that help make the dresses fit better. Si Arima is a wonderful tailor and a very sweet woman. I called Si two weeks before my wedding in a panic - the bridal salon I had purchased the dress from and had guaranteed that their alterations people could do the alterations had just informed me that they no longer did alterations. Since I knew two other brides who used Si and were very happy with her, I immediately called her up. Si was the sweetest person ever. I don't think she really wanted to take me, since my wedding was literally 2 weeks away and she would have to work over labor day weekend to get it done... but she just felt so bad for me in the situation I was in that she took me anyway. Si had to take the dress in a LOT, and it looked fantastic in the end! Two days before my wedding, at my last fitting, I was still feeling a little uneasy about the way the bust looked. I would have just taken it, since I knew that Si had already done so much to help me, but Si said she really wanted me to feel 100% beautiful in the dress, so she did another alteration with 1 day to spare before the wedding. Also, in terms of cost, she gave me a great tip that if I wore the higher heels I had purchased (I brought about 3 pairs with me since I couldn't decide which ones to wear), she wouldn't have to hem the dress... saving me $150! I never would have thought of that! The shoes killed my feet, but it saved me a $150 so I'm not complaining. In the end, Si was so sweet, Si was cheaper than the original quote, and Si even found other ways to save me money. And most importantly, my dress was perfect. I think I paid about $150 for her to take the dress in and add a bustle. I didn't have any beading or lace on my dress, which would definitely cost more. The only down side that I think some people may experience with Si is that her schedule is a little difficult sometimes. Especially during prime wedding and prom season, she is very busy. And since her priority is her family and her health, she will sometimes turn down business in order to accommodate that. If you can be flexible with your own schedule, it's much easier, but if you are the type of person who can only come on weekends or after work, finding a time to meet with Si may be difficult. read more

Si was wonderful to work with for my wedding gown alterations. I met with her once for a fitting so she could take measurements and understand what needed to be done, a second time about three weeks later for an intermediate fitting to make sure she was on the right track, and then a third time about two weeks later to ensure the gown fit perfectly and to take it home with me! All three appointments were quick and easy, and I was able to take home the gown as scheduled after that third appointment. Si took off several inches from the bottom to match the length I wanted without altering the train at all. She also transformed a straight-line strapless neckline to a beautiful, subtle, sweetheart neckline. I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear a veil or not, but during the second fitting, I saw several simple, pretty veils hanging in her changing area and learned that she made them there herself. After seeing those, I was sold, and asked her to make me one too! Si works from her home, meets people on an appointment-only basis, and gave me individual attention to ensure that my needs were met. Furthermore, her prices are fair and reasonable, and she did an amazing job on the alterations I asked for in a very reasonable time period. Luckily someone canceled, so I was able to get an appointment with her for an estimate. Instead of taking in my dress from the sides, she wanted to remove material from the back of the dress around the zipper. I wasn't too sure that was the best option since other seams would fall in the wrong places. My other concern was the bustle, since other reviewers have had issues. Lastly, Si will not budge on the price because she knows that salons are more expensive. A seamstress in Milpitas who works out of her home is cheaper than her and will include pressing. read more
