I am giving this a four star rating with a few stipulations. We came by on a Saturday night for some pool and majority of the tables were reserved for a birthday party and tournament. We were told that we were first on the waiting list for a table, but there is no time limit for pool play and the tables seemed to hand over to new groups independent of the waitlist. With that being said ended up grabbing a pool table when a group was wrapping up their time & had a great end to our night. While we were waiting to play pool, we played darts and it was a great way to pass time. We also ordered an app and I would suggest the nachos. I've come to this location twice now and have enjoyed both times; once with a group of friends and once with my boyfriend. The atmosphere is very chill and laid back. Its a huge space with lots of pool tables, TVs and stool top tables to sit. The service is friendly and prompt. I love that you pay per game (only 75¢ each) and the servers bring your food and drinks to you. They had a good selection of music the two times I've been there. I've had their wings and loaded potato skins. Both were great, but the wings were a lot better than I thought they'd be; I was impressed. read more

They finally lowered their domestic draws during the weekday happy hour to $4. Also you can get $10 pitchers during happy hour. Consistent food. I usually get the chicken tenders or boneless wings. Came here for a Sunday lunch. Not many people at that time so it felt pretty safe. They have a deal where you can play on the pool tables for free as long as you order food, which was a lot of fun for me and my husband! Came here on Friday night. I haven't been to a pool hall in a long time, its so much nicer than they used to be now that people can't smoke in them. There happened to be a tournament going on, so had to put my name on a wait list to get a table. They said it could be up to a couple hours, but we had a table in about 35. I was expecting to pay 10-15 an hour as many places that is the going rate, but this one is the old coin operated at 75 cents a game.. Thats a great deal whether you are great players getting thru a game in 5-10 mins or just casually playing while socializing like I was. We did order an app, it was the jalapeno cheese bites. They were good, but nothing special, more than likely frozen and deep fried, but good enough for me tonight. The wait staff was very friendly and kept our drinks full. I would definitely come back here again sometime to play pool, but based on menu and app that I tried I would not come for a dinner or lunch. read more

I was told I was being obnoxious for listening to music on my mobile device that wasn't even turned halfway up mind you I was not around any other patrons. And for a staff personnel to come up to a paying customer and say you're being obnoxious while you're just sitting there watching your friends play pool is not very professional. *sigh* It's 1 AM and I can't go to sleep because I just have to tell the Yelp world about how great Side Pockets was tonight. I assumed Side Pockets was going to be another loud, dirty, over-crowded bar that Tanner's was last weekend. My pre-conceved notions were so very wrong. Side Pockets is very spacious with tons of pool tables. You can choose to pay by the hour or a dollar per game. There were no typical bar fights or obnoxious drunks running around. The people were there to play pool! That's how it should be. My go-to drink was $4.75 just like it is at other places. What impressed me the most (besides the great atmosphere) was their huge menu...3 full pages of delicious bar food. I shared an appitizer mixed plate with a friend and loved every bite. The other patrons were polite, the food was amazing, the music was a perfect mix of songs, the drinks were strong....I have endless compliments for Side Pockets! read more

Great place to shoot pool. Good wings and cheese steak sandwich. The jalapeno cheese balls were ok. The fries were really good. I came here to watch the game, but the atmosphere is lacking. It's a playoff game, so I expected a better crowd. Most people where just playing on the tables. I don't think I would come here again to see a game. Best steak special on Tuesday and Thursday around. It's a pool hall so expect good service from reliable people and been making good drinks on the side. The steaks I have had are always consistent and never fails to disappoint. We have tried the appetizers with a small sample of everything. So I do recommend this for starters. My quest for challengers on a self imposed "championship tenderloins" tour continues. The defunct "Side Pockets" that was in Bonner Springs was always a high contender. With its demise, I am transferring my hopes to Lenexa store. (alas, I think its the only one left) Pool tables dominate this bar, and the space for seating, just to eat is slim. I am a horrible pool shooter, and like to give it a try after a few brewskies, but there are some serious-ass pool shooters here. I would be embarrassed to have them watch me continually miss shots......gives me more time for those brewskies! Anyway the food was my purpose today. The tenderloin was not as "monster" as I had gotten at the Bonner location, but still big enough for a satisfying meal. Meat was cooked just right, light crunchy crust, with piping hot meat inside. Yes I said meat...you can tell that it isn't a piece of cardboard that might have been knocked into the deep fryer by mistake. Any tenderloin lover can sympathize with me on getting one of those sad examples. I was very pleased with tonight's sample..toasted bun and ample sandwich dress up items were very good. My co-diner ordered the burger, and opted for the $1.99 extra to make the fries deluxe. (cheese, bacon, scallions, and sour creme) Eat those first , when they arrive and are hot; once the cheese sets back up , they are hard to separate. Burger was typical bar fare..good but not great. My tenderloin reined as the better of the two sandwiches,here but I'm afraid, as good as it was, only ranks in the number two slot of my list of "champion ship tenderloins" .A noteworthy spot nonetheless. As Yoda once said "there is another" so my search for contenders will continue.. Another visit is likely to Side pockets is likely if I am in the neighborhood. Been here a couple times for lunch now and it's been consistent each time. I don't think I'd say the food is any better than typical bar food. There's certainly a larger variety than what you tend to see at other bars, though. As others have mentioned, billiards are the main attraction for most visitors. They've got tons of tables. The service was disappointingly slow on each visit. Very friendly, but it took forever to get our orders and to get drink refills. It seems to be a place where most of the regulars know each other...and the servers tend to hang out with the regulars. Not a bad place if you're in the area, or if you're a pool player. But I wouldn't make a special trip for it. read more

Waitress was rude. I asked for my sandwich a certain way and the waitress never asked the kitchen to cook it that way. When I was delivered another waitress set it on my table and walked away. My waitress stood nearby and watched me scrape all the cheese on it off. The aus jus had spilled in the plate and the bread was so soaked it could not be picked up. I ate the meat with a fork. The waitress never came back to the table. Never had a refill nor did she ask how things were. Our group moved to another table and she never even gave us a bill. After about another 90 minutes I tracked her down to pay. It was horrible service and food and she did nothing to do service recovery. Very disappointing. Might never return. The reason I waited another ninety minutes was that I was in a poker tournament. Still have not been back. read more

The fact that they have a food menu is a joke. Ordered our food and 20 minutes later they came and told us that they were out of the pork tenderloin. Really? So we ordered a double order of chicken tenders which took another 30 minutes and by that time, we had cancelled our order and were ready to leave. Side Pockets is your standard bar joint but with solid food and tons of fantastic pool tables. Their toasted ravioli, fries and French Dip sandwich are great. They do have a strict 21 & over policy. They carded me even though I only ordered a Coke. The place was pretty quiet but if you're into shooting some pool or playing some cards, this would be a great place to go, grab a drink and socialize. read more

We went to Sidepockets on a Sunday night. It had a pretty decent crowd for an off night. When we got inside, you could tell why so many people were there. It had a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. On one round of drinks, we had really slow service. But instead of the server blaming someone else, she apologized and took responsibility. I like when people own up to their mistakes and do their best to make up for them. This left me with a better impression than if there had been no mistakes but "blah" service and attitude. Good bar food and a great place for cards, darts and billiards. We stop in here occasionally for a friendly game of Texas Hold'em or to shoot a few rounds of pool. My husband is the pool shark, I just try to hit the ball. We have a few drinks and a burger or sandwich. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. I popped in about 3pm on a Saturday to meet a friend and only had an iced tea at the bar, so I don't have a lot to report. The bartender was friendly, and a few minutes into my tea, I did want to see a menu, but she was distracted by other things. Maybe the kitchen wasn't open? As a female walking into this place I felt very out of place with the mostly men at a few of the pool tables. Unless you're a pool player, there's not much of a reason to come in, however I would definitely come back to play pool though as there are many tables and it might make for a fun group get together. Will probably never be returning to this location. Our service was terrible. We had one waitress that couldn't even get our drinks without having to have someone else step in to finish. We had to continually ask to get our drinks. We then asked to have ONE tv changed. It was like pulling teeth. They tried telling us the manager wouldn't let them and then had one lady pretend she couldn't get the channel. The manager put it on a tv far away from us. Then the waitresses said he didn't know if they had the channel...? It was ridiculous. They finally put it on after about 25+ minutes. Service from that time was mediocre at best. read more

Fun place to go with a group... it's a bit on the noisy side, but hey, it's a pool hall! Decent bar food and a nice selection of beers, on draft & in bottles. Happy hour specials are a good deal. There's several leagues that play here, and there always seems to be some tournament or another going on, but there's so many tables that you can usually find one to play without too much trouble. Side Pockets is a bar, grill, pool hall. The emphasis is on the bar/grill portion of the business. The tables are not well kept, and are badly in need of maintenance. If you are going somewhere to play pool this is one establishment to skip. The food is good for bar food, and they have a good selection. However, the service is terrible, and this is evident by the lack of lunch business. There are several leagues that play at Side Pockets, and this is what is keeping the business a float. On non-league nights Side Pockets is deserted. There are many more places in Kansas City with better food, better staff, and cheaper fun. Don't settle for Side Pockets in Lenexa. On a side note - the Side Pockets in Olathe, and Bonner Springs have already gone out of business, and I see this one going under soon also. read more

I love Sidepockets! Great food great people great staff! Very friendly and courteous. Excellent bartenders. Plus dart boards video games make for a fun evening. Tons of pool tables. The food is well above what you typically get in a bar environment. We went in on a Friday night and ate prime rib and bacon-wrapped filet that were both perfectly cooked. Daily specials looked really good too. Bonus 'cause happy hours are back in Kansas. Friday nights are also domestic bucket specials. We plan on spending a lot of time at Sidepockets! At this Side Pockets location we, our party, had received the worst overall experience. Our service was below average, our servers were rude and seemed to be put out by just simply doing their jobs. The music that played throughout the bar went from the genre of bluegrass country to hip-hop rap. Lastly, by the time we finally got our food it had been well over 20 minutes, and was cold.
