Went there for a party on Saturday and had a lot of fun. The bartenders were really good and quick to get to you (it wasn't really packed though) and they actually had fun with you. I did try their pizza and thought it was good, but not great. Being in a neighborhood, a cab was a little difficult to get right away, but I only had to walk three blocks to get to a main street and then got one right away. This place was pretty cool. I was here on a Saturday night, meeting up with some friends. They were there for a birthday party, and so we go to take advantage of some of their tasty pizza for free. The crowd is cool and prices are cheap. The only thing I can gripe about is that they only have a huge 22 oz bottle of cider, and no other options. I went with a 312, which was less than 5 bucks. I live a few blocks away from this place and visit about once a week (at a minimum). Great place... never crowded... never a bad crowd, just cool people hanging out with friends enjoying a drink. And don't forget about the pizza. It's my favorite thin crust in Chicago.... and we all know there is a surplus of compitition in Chicago. They just know how to keep it simple and good. You don't know it's there unless you know it's there. You probably won't have a wild night here, but if you're looking to drink a beer, watch sports and catch up with friends and neighbors, then this is hands-down the best place to go. They've got some great beer on tap, a very nice thin crust pizza, and local sports (though you'll have to go to the back to watch the Sox). It's always a good time. LOVE LOVE LOVE SSS's thin crust pizza (specifically the bbq chicken)! I feel very lucky to live a block away from this gem of (an extreme) dive bar. The grilled chicken sandwich is fab, great specials, they have a pool table & a dart board, its never too crowded, the pizza is phenom, and the mac-and-cheese bites = mmm mmm mmm need I say more? You will no doubt leave this cozy hole in the wall satisfied and smiling, with a new favorite pizza spot, hopefully a little tipsy and unfortunately smelling of greasy food. read more

I've lived in Chicago for 9 years now and the Sidestreet has always been a steady part of my bar diet. The people are friendly, beer is reasonable and there's a large selection, the staff is cool, and the pizza rocks at this joint. I had a real good experience with the Saloon and bartender last night. The place was moderately full and there was only one bartender, but he was always in motion and took care of each of the patrons. When my brother spilled his beer, the bartender helped clean up the spill and graciously brought a full glass, with no judgment, and he would have been right to be curt to us. Perfect neighborhood dive bar. The bar was full of locals/regulars yet we got a cheer of greeting when we walked in. Came for the Bears game but stayed long after it was over...a special on Bloody Marys...complimentary pizza (that the aforementioned regulars made sure we sampled and that was so good we got a pie of our own)...clean toilets...and a great bartender (Sean). I want to start out by thanking Dan W. for his "compliment" in which he expressed his displeasure because he thinks I am expecting too much from this place. I guess expecting a bartender to have some knowledge of alcohol and pour proper drinks and put the correct drinks on the correct tabs, is asking too much. If that's the case, then I am so sorry. Here is my review: The nicest but worst bartender of all time works here. Otherwise, they have pretty decent food and a nice, casual atmosphere. I usually write a tip then sleep on it before I write the review when I am upset. Well, I slept on it. Back in March, my husband and I came to watch Michigan State basketball and other games. The first bartender we had, Anna (I learned her name from Dan W, thank you) was good at her job and nice. I wish she was always there. A good experience so far. Then her shift changed and this very perky blonde woman arrived. All downhill from there. She was eating the entire time we were there, she seemed to not know anything about bar-tending and when an older couple came in and asked what ales they had, she had no idea. I figure, first day jitters. (I shall note that we got pizza and it was pretty good). Fast forward 7 months...she is still there. She is very sweet but it appears they still haven't trained her. Or she just doesn't care about doing her job properly. First, I get a blueberry Stoli drink when I ask for "Stoli and soda with a lemon." Ok, mistakes happen. Then, our group gets a pizza and it is wrong. Ok, maybe that is the kitchen's fault. Then my friend asks if they have any hard ciders...he is given a pumpkin shandy. Uhhhhh. Then it is time to pay the bills. She runs my card before she shows me the bill, in fact never shows me the bill or asks me if I wanted it on the card. I ordered three drinks and shared a medium pizza with my friend. It was $41. I just paid it bc my Uber was waiting. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't correct. My friend cashing out next to me, stops her and asks To see her bill. There are for drinks on there that she didn't order. We think they were her sister's but instead of correcting it it and saying sorry, the bartender says "you guys must look alike." She then runs the card as if this is totally commonplace. Well, it probably is with this woman at the bar. I am shocked by all the good reviews. Maybe everyone orders a beer by name and is too drunk at the end of the night to make sure the bill is correct? Or maybe I was just one person that had the "luck" of getting this bartender the only two times I have been here. The pizza is decent for a bar, and the cheese curds are pretty tasty. But I am going to hope I never have to endure this bartender again. It just ruins a good night and pisses you off even more in the morning. read more

Even though I don't live in the neighborhood, Side Street is still my favorite neighborhood bar. Everyone that comes in and works there is great! The food is top notch...especially the pizza. The bartenders - especially Abby, Rachel and Chris - know how to make a good cocktail and their beer selection is good too. You can catch any sports there on their TVs and play pool, darts or touch screen. Its been recently updated and gets nicer every time I go. Hands down one of my favorite bars to hang out at with my friends. read more

Definitely a neighborhood bar with a neighborhood bar feel! We came specifically to try their pizza (they do thin crust) and it did not disappoint. Also a crazy impressive selection of beer. Service was friendly. We were even given a dessert shot on the house since I wasn't feeling in the mood for any of their desserts on the menu. The only minor issue I have is they do their pricing by hand and we could not understand how the pricing worked. Two words for you. BREW BUDDIES. These tasty little morsels will tempt anybodies taste buds. It's a tater tot with cheese and jalapenos inside. Served with ranch. All my bar food dreams wrapped into one tasty little potato sensation. It makes me sad that this is no longer my neighborhood dive because the food is really good. The chicken cesar salad is great too. There is usually only one person working behind the bar, 2 at most and the place is usually pretty full with pool and dart leagues so it can be slow. This place is GREAT. We live right across the street, and this place has saved us from some crappy meals at home with their nightly dinner specials - the spaghetti is awesome, as are the burgers and the random cheap bears that are on special each night. The staff are all cool and down-to-earth and there's a pool table that you never have to wait very long for. Used to live a block away. Great, people, drinks, food and fun. They have a dart turney every now and again. A great place to just chill.

We used to live 3 doors down and would come here at least a few times a week. The manager, Michael, is a great guy. He is so personable and always knew our drink orders. He helped me organize a fundraising event here - about 25 people attended and we raised over $400 in tips for guest-bartending on a Wednesday evening. The food is good, the beer is cold. The drinks are fine, but nothing to write home about. Same with the beer offerings. Food is actually very good, and a reasonable price- definitely recommend eating there. That being said, the reason I mark this place down is because their bartenders often scoff at anyone under age 45, as do most of the patrons. Patrons are often dowright rude, especially when it comes to navigating in the narrow walkways. They are friendly sometimes, but prepare to be ignored most of the time. They get most of their business from regulars and those nearby during sporting events, so I can see why they don;t really try too hard. Worth it if you live next door, not so much if you don't. read more

Total dive bar with good pub pizza!! Every type of pizza is delicious - thin crust, crispy with just the right about of sauce and toppings. The staff is friendly and there are usually regulars sitting at the bar. My 2 minor complaints. 1 - you smell like a fryer when you leave there. 2 - the draft list doesn't seem to rotate seasonally and the selection is just okay considering the amount of craft beer available.
