Big bang buffalo- standard buffalo. Can't go wrong. Hot honey- pretty good, honey flavor, some sweetness Garlic galaxy glaze- this is really good if you like garlic flavor. I would get this again. Bayou in the sky- super super good. I would get this again. Hint of spice, hint of sweet. Carolina bbq- tasted like straight deli mustard. I would pass. The pizza, even though they advertise Detroit Style pizza, their take is more like Focaccia style pizza. They provide nice crunch, not enough sauce. Pretty airy dough. Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. To start off our server, Eli was so nice so knowledgeable helping us run through the menu He took incredible care of us throughout the night! That's at the tone for what became unforgettable night. Had the space debri salad which is basically a Greek salad with potatoes and I think in Italian vinaigrette Soooooooooooo for it!!! So delicious After getting it, my buddy had to get one too haha One of us had the moonwalk cheese, we go out for a lot of pizza together, and he said it was he thought his favorite of anywhere. Another one of our crew got the pepperoni pile up loved. And I got the sweet and salty space candy pizza With bacon, pineapple, pickled red onion, goat cheese, sambal. We did dine in last weekend at Sharpies. It's a small place but charming space-themed interior. The server was great but there was a VERY loud trio at the bar literally yelling and laughing through our whole dinner which unfortunately affected the ambiance. For food - we ordered the blooming onion (forget what they call it), the wings, and two pizzas. My husband tried a gin cocktail and beer, both which he enjoyed. Onion 4/5 - tasty and good dipping sauce Wings 5/5 - crispiest wing I have ever had and they might be my favorite in Chicago... hot honey was delicious. Carmalized onion 3.5/5 - this was very tasty, perfect crispy edges and fluffy center. The flavor was good but could have used some acid to break up the richness Vodka meat pizza 4/5 - very tasty. Came here with friends and ordered so much food together! We tried the Cheesy Moon Rocks (loved ), Burning Star - deep fried "blooming" onion (liked - sauce was just hot for me ), and Space Debris Salad . The salad could easily be shared or your entree if that's all you're eating. Loved the smashed potatoes + Greek salad vibe. Up next was an order of HUGE buffalo wings. Not my thing, but they were gobbled up and enjoyed! For mains we ordered the special pizza, Sharpies Beef, and Pepperoni Pile Up. I only tried the pepperoni, but heard from the table that the beef one was really good and the giardinera was awesome. I enjoyed the pepperoni pizza and liked that they use the good cupping peps. With all the other food, I barely ate a slice! The beer list is available via QR code which means they're probably rotating it regularly, woo hoo! I had a nice Vienna lager from Fair State. The cocktails were a little hit and miss with my table. The purple one, Cosmic Gumbo, was too sweet for the two that ordered it, but still drinkable. I'm looking forward to trying some wine with pizza next time. Sports fan? There are three TVs so you can see from almost any seat. They may have converted me to the Detroit style... Amazing pizza thanks to the multiple textures going on. The crust had great crispy edges while the center was soft and chewy. I had a great carryout experience at Sharpie's! As a fan of Detroit style pizza, I was not disappointed with Sharpie's version. I ordered ahead early afternoon for a pickup soon after they opened and was pleasantly surprised that my pie was ready a bit earlier than scheduled. I drove over and easily got a diagonal parking spot on the side street off Elston. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who retrieved my pepperoni pile up pizza from a warming oven, and I was on my way. I opened the fun Sharpie-branded box to find a beautifully crispy pie with the most generous amount of pepperoni and sauce I've ever seen on a Detroit style pizza. It had a thin layer of mozzarella on top of the crust, which caramelized around the edges, as well as some Parmesan over the top. The menu said it also came with chili flakes and honey, but I didn't see or taste either. But it was still delicious! The sauce in particular is outstanding, and I loved how much they used. There was so much pepperoni that it made the pie a little too salty for my taste, but most would probably love it. It was cut into six pieces, and I found two to be plenty filling, so the amount is pretty good for the price. I would definitely go back and probably stay in to enjoy the wacky vibe and grab some other things on the menu. read more

The pizza was good, but very tiny. I did an online order from here and was really surprised on how small and light the box was. I even laughed a little. Is this a joke? Nope. And then when I got home and opened it, the pizza was even smaller. You would think that they would make the pizza big enough to fill the box. I ordered Nixons Cheese Curds and their Pepperoni Pile Up. The curds were ok. Not special. They were too soggy and greasy. That's to be expected if you don't eat cheese curds freshly made. The pizza itself had plenty of pepperoni. They do pile it up but a 1/4 of them were too charred and overcooked. The pizza was also supposed to have honey but barely tasted any sweetness. The best part of the pizza was the crust. The charred cheese crust was done perfectly and the crust was thick and delicious. Just needed a bit more sauce with more pepper flakes to make this a near flawless tiny pizza. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Stopped into Sharpies after a concert at The Salt Shed looking for some casual drinks and appetizers to share. The place has a cool, space-themed décor that's both fun and inviting. There's a massive bar with plenty of seating, plus lots of tables, we chose to sit at the bar. The drink menu is impressive, packed with signature cocktails and a solid beer selection. I tried a root beer beer and the "Black Hole Boulevard," a whiskey-based cocktail. Both were unique and delicious, definitely not your average bar drinks. For appetizers, we shared the cheese curds, which were some of the best I've ever had. They were light and airy, almost like they were wrapped in puff pastry and huge! We also split their take on a blooming onion, which was another standout. Two fantastic apps that hit the spot. I wasn't super hungry, so we didn't try the pizza this time, but I'm definitely coming back for it. Overall, Sharpies is an awesome spot for great drinks, tasty food, and an all-around great vibe. Is it for everyone??? If you are quite traditional and closed-minded to trying different flavor combinations maybe Sharpies is not for you, but if my husband could he would eat it every single day we have tried all the menu pretty much and I love the fact that they just created a few new flavors which when we ordered the last one with pickles and mustard I was very skeptical LOVED IT!!! The burning star (the big onion blossom) ufffff first time trying it and I couldn't stop eating it. I'm huge fan of cheese curds and honestly they weren't my favorites, but definitely the spicy sweet onion making up for them And if you don't like any of the pizzas... it's ok, but you MUST TRY the banana pudding. It's OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! we ever EVER order dessert because we almost got stuff with foods and drinks, but the first time I was curious about the concept so we ordered it.. I'm so glad so glad we did because it's tremendously delicious! However, as a personal trainer, this place is not for calorie deficit diet Staff and service is great. Everyone is very friendly and answer any question very patiently (yes, menu can be a bit overwhelming with the names of drinks and food) but they are happy to help. Sharpies was a fun spot to hit up before heading to the Salt Shed. We did make a reservation and got seated right in the front window. They have a space them that is fun and unique. Service was speedy and effective. We shared an absolutely delicious seasonal salad that really hit the spot. Was surprised by the freshness and honestly loved it! We also had the Moonwalk Cheese Pizza which was thick and had those good caramelized edges. 2 of us couldn't finish with either menu item. I will say upon a return visit I would go with their stellar draft beer list as my cocktail tasted reminiscent of cough syrup but I went with a nostalgic one with Southern Comfort so likely my error. read more

Ordered delivery through Door dash, Sharpies has some great Detroit style pizza! Check out their Instagram page for photos of all their items! We got the citrus pepper flare wings and the sausage singularity pizza. The wings were really big and have a really thick crunchy batter crust similar to KFC. The lemon pepper flavor was a bit muted since the crust was so thick, but the batter was seasoned well and chicken inside was juicy. The sausage singularity pizza has a great crispy cheesy crust and the bread is thicker like a focaccia bread. The fennel sausage, calabrian chili, and ricotta were a great combo. When it's hot and fresh, I prefer this over Jets. However the next day when reheated via air fryer, the slices were noticeably more chewy and not as good. This place got a great review from Dave Portnoys one bite pizza review and definitely lived up to the hype! One note on the delivery order, the sauce containers had faulty lids (one lid was totally flat) so it spilled everywhere but was still contained within the box. read more

The tl;dr of it all: some of the best Detroit-style pizza in Chicago, with fresh ingredients, plenty of toppings, and a perfect, caramelized outer crust; that said, we will likely never order again because the amount of oil on, within, and dripping off this pizza is unnecessarily over the top. **3.5 Stars** My wife and I were as excited about Sharpie's opening up a Detroit-style pizza joint as we have been about any restaurant in quite a while. Detroit might be my favorite style, and while there are a few places to get a serviceable slice or pie, we don't feel like any reach that top level. Sharpie's currently does take out via text, which is an interesting system that actually works quite well. That said, there is a fairly limited window to order, and they do not allow for ordering ahead. So, that's a bit limiting. When we got our pies home and opened them up, both the PESTO and the Moonwalk, we were very excited. They smelled fantastic, and the squares were loaded with fresh toppings. They definitely felt a little heavier than a typical Detroit pie, but that caramelized crust looked just about perfect. The Good: That crust is perfect. If Milly's does the best airy-crust and caramelized edge in the city, Sharpie's is not far behind. Incredibly well done. The ingredients are fresh and delicious - the pesto they created, in particular, was unlike any I've had before. And it paired really well with the arugula and cheese. The cheese was fresh with a great pull as well. And the marinara sauce had some good and flavor. Lastly, the price was certainly reasonable, particularly for the quality and ingredients. If that was all I had to say, we'd be at a 5, this would instantly be my favorite pizza in the city, and I'd have to love learning to deal with Elston at 4:30pm just to get this pizza. Unfortunately... The Bad (and The Ugly): There is simply too much oil in, on, and dripping off this pizza. And not like, oh that's a little too much. It's like a bottle of oil in each slice. Look at the slice of Moonwalk - it's glistening! The dough is almost completely yellow, just oozing olive oil. We tried letting the slices rest on three layers of paper towels. Take a look at the picture - that was the amount of oil on the bottom layer!! And there was still too much oil on these slices after!! It's just such a disappointment because they crushed every other aspect, the hardest details, of making great Detroit style pizza. But, they absolutely saturated these things in an unnecessary amount of off-putting oil. Look, there is date pizza, take out pizza, gourmet pizza, drunk pizza, you name it. This is something like being drunk after date night gourmet pizza. So much of it is so impressive, but the lasting impression is like drinking a cup of olive oil. Maybe they can work on dialing that in because if they do it would be perfect. But, until they do, I'm not sure I'll be returning unless I want to get "the itis" from pizza again. read more

I've never actually eaten at the restaurant, but I've ordered from here and have had leftovers brought home to me several times. Sharpies Detroit style pizza is so super solid, we love it!! The crust is so crispy, the inside is so fluffy, almost focaccia like. The toppings are so good, my favorites are the pepperoni or the Italian beef pizzas, the Italian beef seriously tastes like if an Italian beef and pizza had a baby, so good!! Banana pudding is very sweet and crunchy, pretty good. I can't say much about the service myself, but my husband says their servers are super chill and cool. The inside of the restaurant is oddly all black, they really need some TV's at the bar too. Easy street parking out front, pay to park. 4.5 stars- My husband and I stopped by Sharpie's for the first time a couple of weeks ago for dinner. There is free parking on the side street next to Sharpies, but just make sure to review the signs as some spots are reserved for other businesses (mainly on weekdays though). There is also additional parking along Elston as well. Unfortunately, Sharpie's is a little bit of a distance from CTA trains, but is close to the North Ave bus. I love the space theme inside the restaurant. The menu offers several batched cocktails, beers, and other beverages. We both enjoyed the cocktails we ordered from the menu. I've had mixed experiences with batched cocktails from other places, but these tasted just like they were freshly made. The server also offered to let me try a sample of one of the cocktails I was considering before ordering, which was helpful. Fried Cheese Curds (7/10) The breading didn't have as much flavor as some of the other fried cheese curds I've had from other places locally. They were decent, but not memorable. THE Sausage Singularity Detroit Style Pizza (10/10) This pizza included sausage, peppers, and ricotta cheese. I loved the ingredients and the delicious caramelized crust. Over the last year, I've lost 2 other restaurants that were my go to places for Detroit Style Pizza. I am thankful to have Sharpies as an option when I have a craving. read more

This place was great!! We got the sausage singularity and it was packed with meat. The flavor was fantastic and I loved the crust. I saw people complaining about the size and I agree that it looked small at first but the two of us couldn't eat another bite after finishing this. $30 after tax for 2 people isn't bad! I also saw people complaining about the amount of oil but honestly I didn't notice that either when eating mine. I feel like NY slices have way more oil and this didn't taste oily either. I got pickup and it was really easy to order online and then get my pizza when it was ready. There's even parking spaces right out front! When my family and I ate here, my wife bit into a chicken wing to find greasy, brown meat inside. I contacted the owner, Scott, about the issue. He said it was nothing out of the ordinary and that they didn't receive any other complaints about the wings. I felt like his response was flippant and made it seem like the issue my family and I experienced wasn't a priority him and his business cared about. My friend and I had very different opinions on this. He was a big fan while I thought it was bad. I use a fork and knife for Detroit style pizza and was struggling to cut this. It was so tough I had to switch to my hands. Additionally, one of my slices was very sour (likely due to over-fermentation). The sauce was like a dollar store pasta sauce. The sausage was really tasty initially and plentiful. Lastly, the one thing that didn't disappoint was the ricotta. To sum it up, the more I ate, the less I liked it. read more

The cocktails we had (we tried four) were outstanding and wonderfully priced for being (I think) draft cocktails. The blooming onion and banana pudding were also standouts. The decor is everything you'd want for a Space theme, including the ceiling and menu games. Truly, we still haven't solved the the puzzle on the menu. That said, the wings and pizza fell flat for me. The wings (we got the Galaxy Garlic) were so insanely battered and crunchy fried that I had to eat through about an inch of batter before I got to the meat. Now I love things fried and crunchy, but the heaviness of that oil and fry batter honestly made me almost sick. The pizza was also widely caramelized. Again, I love all things charred. But I felt the pizza lacked a sweetness or something to zing through those super rich caramelized flavors. We did try their basic cheese pan pizza, so maybe if I return I'll try something more adventurous. Either way, I'll definitely return for drinks! read more
