It did not taste fishy at all and the rye bread had the best buttery crisp edges. River Street Tavern is cozy, casual and it has a compact lay out. You get to relax and can have a conversation over a few beers and good food. Place gets busy but is not loud. The biggest issue arose when I went to pay my $19.04 bill, the "20% tip" on the machine came out to $5.61. I pointed it out to the server right there and he acted confused and played dumb, which was frustrating. The custom tip button wasn't even working so I couldn't fix it myself, and with my kid losing it I just had to pay and go. It wasn't until I did the math in the car that I realized just how off it really was -- that's almost 29.5%, not 20%. This left me with a really yucky feeling. Just double check the math on that tip screen before you pay. I have a feeling this has caught a lot of people without them realizing it. Needless to say, I won't be returning here.

The sauce I got them tossed in was really really good. I got the Buffalo-aki wing sauce flavor and additionally requested the Lemon-Pepper seasoning... yum! The sweet potato fries were great. I really liked the way they were cut, and they weren't too greasy at all (like some fries). They were, however, not really seasoned... but it didn't matter when I paired it with the sauce. Which, by the way, the Honey Mustard sauce was especially good. I don't usually see Fried Green Beans on a menu, so I was expecting something really good and to add a lighter veggie to my meal, but they weren't great. While they were really tender, the breading was very thick and greasy. They tasted good in the first few bites, but it was hard to get through after a while. Would not recommend. The service at this location is particularly excellent. I had multiple people check in on me to see if I had been helped already. I was wearing a shirt with a small emblem on it, and multiple people pointed it out and thanked me for my military service. And they were all very personable and kept up a fun smile. Sidelines would be a great place to choose for wing night, and they've got lots of fun side options. It's pretty average bar food at a pretty average price.
