I didn't take a lot of time taking inside pictures. I was happy for the WiFi code. I was called in relatively quickly as I did handle my paperwork online, which was requested. I read some of the poor reviews and think some of those weren't relevant. My Dr was very professional and very attentive. After a thorough review of my situation we discussed a plan of action that needs some insurance approval. I was very pleased with the process and the helpfulness of the office team from start to finish in my first visit. I had my first experience at Sierra Neurosurgery this week. The practice focuses on pain management, which was not my reason for the visit. Don't be deterred. Online patient forms saved time in the office. Front desk staff were polite and pleasant. I waited a few minutes before being called back. I cannot say enough positives to reflect my experience with Dr. Albertson. She listened to me, answered my questions and offered great suggestions as to how I can continue to remain healthy and active as I age. I see Dr. Vacca. He's great at explaining all your options and even demonstrated different exercises I could do to strengthen the muscles in my spine. He listens and answers all your questions. The office staff is friendly and helpful as well. I also had an MRI and spinal x-ray in the same office prior to seeing Dr. Vacca so the results were readily available. The service was a terrible experience here. My son suffered a skull fracture and was told he would be seen in 7-10 days after release from the hospital. At five days we called to inquire about the appointment. Was told he couldn't be seen without a cat scan. They didn't send the referral and had to call multiple times. Once he finally got the cat scan it was at seven days and we had to pay out of pocket because the hospital didn't have time to process it. Then was called on day ten to be told he would have to wait four more days. Was told he was released from restriction and would email him a letter for work and still haven't received it. My son is 21 and just wants to get back to work as he has no income. Can't get responses from the office. Medical director was very rude and refused to give me any information or let me schedule for my son even though my son verbally gave the doctor consent in the hospital. My son has a learning disability and adhd and I take care of a lot of his paperwork. read more

I read other reviews and I understand. Though my experiences weren't bad, I do question a few things . I had surgery on the C6-C7, from Dr.Demers in 2013. He did a great job. My aftercare was okay. I can't complain. My dad had back surgery three times, Dr.Demers was the surgeon each time. They were careful with my dad's heart condition each time. Communication was good with staff. I called them many times with concerns and questions. They even helped with home health care. Why 3 stars? I just wonder if my dad's surgeries could have been farther apart. His body was weak. He had heart surgeries and a surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm , in between the back surgeries. In 2 years, he had 5 major surgeries. Why didn't any doctor stop to let his body heal? He died in September 2020 from cardiogenic shock, at Stanford. The abdominal aortic aneurysm was leaking and he had to have emergency surgery. It was a traumatic experience. My point is, maybe someone should had said his body was too weak for all these surgeries. His vascular surgeon did say no to the last back surgery (July 2020). But Sierra Neurosurgery Group found a vascular surgery who said yes. And did the surgery. Dad died two months later. I just question all my dad's doctors. Including his cardiologist. read more

The doctors and staff in the back have all been fantastic and deserve 5 stars. The front of the house however is not great at all. I have had a few different problems with the front pretty much every visit, but this last time has been the worst. After my last appointment was told I would be called to schedule a followup diagnostic procedure. No call for quite a while and when I do finally get a call it is an automated call asking me to call back to schedule. I call back get sent to a voicemail. Leave a message. No call back so far and it has been over a week. Called again to ask to speak to a supervisor to hopefully get this resolved. Was told no one was available but they would e-mail the scheduling department and a supervisor and someone would call me back within 24 hours. Has been 3 days with no communication. This is just one of many issues I have run into. While most are just minor annoyances this is one that slows down care. I have been dealing with this issue for four months now and we have not gotten anywhere due to delays like this. read more

Dr Andrea Black was amazing with my husband who had incredible pain in his brain from bvftd. we had gone to another pain clinic who was worried he'd become a addicted and he was terminal patient! not only was Andrea kind, compassionate but she got my husband as close to being out of pain as he could have been! she explained the medications, changed what he was on from other office and he had a better quality of life. she also let us do virtual appointments since driving in a car was not going to happen! never 1 time did she say she couldn't, wouldn't help him! if something didn't work she had plenty of options! answered any questions on my chart! we felt like we found the right place! Bad experience with front desk. Olivia, a trainee will never learn, she was extremely rude and incompetent. Never apologized for her mistakes, she didn't update our insurance information and charged us wrong. Fortunately, a nice woman (who deserves all stars) helped us and apologized for Olivia's mistake. Even towards the end, Olivia was rude. We were given appointment to see the doctor, instead a nurse practitioner attended us. I will never recommend this place. I feel very comfortable with all the doctor and nurse practitioners that I have had with the group. I'm they listen and are helpful with guiding me through the decisions I have had to make regarding treatment. Their staff are very good and efficient. The only complaint I have is my phone calls do not get answered in a timely way. Refused to see my wife because she was 4 minutes late. After additional discussion they kicked us out. They told her that she should have remembered. Guess Sierra Nuerosurgery Group doesn't realize that their patients have memory issues. They must not care about patients that have brain issues. Sierra Nuerosugery failed to provide reasonable ADA accomodations and violated HIPPA rights. This office provided me HIPAA protected information about my wife without asking for my identification AND she did not authorize the release of any information. However, the Office Manager provided me with information related to her treatment, appointment and referral. Did I mention they told her that she should have remembered even though she knows she has a memory issue that is well documented in her file. Go somewhere else please. Patient Beware, this business pretends to specialize in pain management but it is the last thing they care about. This is a bad business that can cause harm to you or your loved ones due to their negligence and therefore, incompetence. Patients urgently in need will waste their time, and maybe their lives, when they come to this business seeking help. #1. This business only uses recorded messages when you call them. Therefore, if you are in pain or want to schedule an appointment, or talk to a staff member about your medical care, you will need to leave a recording. What is worse, is that they rarely or never call you back. You will get a call to schedule your first appointment since they need to make their money with new patients. After you are one of their regular patients, they will ignore you. When you leave detailed messages about your pain or about scheduling an appointment, you can expect to wait a day or several days for a response, if ever. If you do get a call back, expect to talk to someone who is very rude with an unsympathetic attitude, and treats you like you are asking for too much. In addition, never ever expect a call back from the medical assistant. You will never hear from her. #2. If you get as far as seeing a doctor, don't expect them to give you pain relief. When you are there, they will tell you that they will take care of you. Yet, when you ask for pain relief with medication, they will give you many nonsensical reasons for why they are unable to prescribe pain medicine to you. You will be told to go back to your other doctor for that, and you will be told to go to an urgent care clinic or maybe even an emergency room. You will start to feel like they are judging you for your pain and somehow wanting to wash their hands of you. The young medical assistants there are the coldest, most unsympathetic, and most rude we have come across, and also the dumbest. What little they did for us was done incorrectly and we had to go through much stress, effort and wasted time, while in pain, to correct their mistakes. But wait, ...isn't Sierra Neurosurgery Group a business that says they specialize in pain management? #3.When you leave their office, they will drop the ball and forget most of what they promised to you. They don't have a patient management system in place so it is easy for them to be unaccountable for your process of care. They will forget to follow up on anything and everything that was promised to you. And since they don't consider it important to answer your calls or call you back, you will be easily forgotten. The procedure you were supposed to have scheduled will not happen. No one will call you to schedule the procedure, much less explain anything about the procedure or what you need to do before the procedure. Days will go by and no one will contact you. The things they said they would do, are not done. And when you call their office more than once, because they failed to do anything for your medical case and no one ever called you back after several days, they will criticize you for calling them more than once. If you don't believe it, just sign up to be their patient and allow the insanity to begin. #4. I am noticing a little response from the "business manager" on a few of the negative yelp reviews.  Isn't it way too little, way too late for that?  I mean these 1 star reviews on yelp have been continuing for years; almost 10 years!  The complaints about the horrible rude service with no call backs starts in April of 2015 here on Yelp.  My message to the "business manager" is this.  Get your business in order!  Take the good advice from all of these patients that you terribly wronged with your negligence, incompetence and rudeness, and change your bad business practices.  Do you really think by putting your phone number down there, for the phone that you never answer, that we will ever call you again after the way your business treated us?   A good and honest business that specializes in pain management and cares about their patients would have a service team of kind humans answering the phones to all of their patients in pain. In addition, that business would have an organized and accountable method to deliver excellent service and follow up to all of their patients in a timely manner. People who are in pain, need kind, capable and timely attention. A business who specializes in pain management would not try to pass you off to other doctors and facilities and tell you they can't help you with your pain! A business that cared would offer multiple pain management techniques and yes, pain medication, to their patients in pain. Sierra Neurosurgery group does not live up to their (false) claims of being specialists in pain management. I had an appointment with Dr Jay Morgan today at Sierra Neurosurgeon Group however I never saw Dr Morgan. I was handed off to someone who did not identify if she was a nurse or doctor or what. She was very rushed and did not even review the 2 MRI's I had done. The VA sent me to them but they did nothing so I think the VA is getting ripped off here and I am going back to the VA and report this substandard service to them. The worst part is I never saw Dr Morgan and the woman I saw didn't even review the MRI's. She had a very rushed and rude attitude. So now I have to go back to the VA and ask them to re-send me to a neurosurgeon because I didn't learn anything about the MRI details of my back problem. I would advise anyone to run, not walk far far away from these criminals who pose as medical professionals. After refusing to refill a medication I've been taking for 8 years, the new one they prescribed was far more dangerous and I began hallucinating. I called the office right away. Not only did no one return my calls, when I showed up at their office, they had me go into my cell phone log to "prove" I had called. What???! They are incapable of accepting responsibility for their mistakes. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with a brain abnormality through 2 different MRI readings. Upon my first visit, I was told I don't have the abnormality. Arnold Chiari malformation doesn't just disappear! This was my experience dealing with Dr Blake who was eager to brush off my complaints, rush me out of my appointment and pass the buck to their "pain management" office. So, then I go to see Ashleigh (the world's worse nurse). I have never dealt with this extent of ignorance in my life. She made it impossible to be approved for my CDL job because she wanted to be right! Luckily, I found a compassionate new doctor who spent 2 hours with me at my first consultation and will be able to keep my CDL. Ashleigh's condescending nature, lack of general knowledge and inability to listen to patients makes her ill equipped to perform her job. Not everyone is a drug addict and it's inappropriate to treat patients as though they are drug pushers off the street! If you're looking for people who will take a comprehensive and thorough approach, go anywhere else but here. They think you are at their mercy! There are other options!! I will be reporting this company to the BBB and looking into legal ramifications for their negligence when prescribing medication that caused me hallucinations. It's negligent to ignore a patient when they're under a prescriber's care. Recommend everyone take their business elsewhere. They will steal your money and refuse to call you back. They will treat you like a number without regard to how it affects your life. Saw Dr. Tolbert in July for decompression surgery. It was emergent and after being hospitalized for a week and having another failed surgery two nights prior he came in and saved the day. I've been suffering for 30+ years and he gave me my life back. He was very thorough in explaining and I'm forever thankful to have my life back! read more

I will have to agree with other people on this thread about the aftercare and follow-up from Sierra Neurosurgery Group. My elderly mother had a C2 fracture and saw Dr. Vacca initially in the emergency room. Trying to get information from either him or any of his staff after the initial care is proving to be very frustrating. Dr. Vacca's assistant seems scattered and front desk are very hard to get hold of. In addition, the Reno office and Carson City office do not communicate with each other. While Dr. Vacca's name is on the Renown/Reno list, the Reno office will not work with you. We were at Renown with a cancer surgeon and she had to call Dr. Vacca to check on my mom's status. We heard Dr. Vacca on the phone refer to my mom as, "Oh, is it that 90-year-old?" My mom is 82 and is in a lot of pain from her fracture. Both she and the cancer surgeon were both a little unnerved by his rude manner. Why is it always up to the patient or the patient's family to check up on every little thing? If we didn't have to deal with all the BS and paperwork all over again, we would change doctors ASAP. read more

But, the staff was awful... once done with my appointment, they left me on my own to make it to the front of the reception area, when it was clear that i could not walk very well on my own without the danger of falling! I remember someone saying to run from this place I wish I listened. My appointment was scheduled six weeks after my first visit to Dr. Blake. I tried calling for a good two weeks so I could get a list of medications I am not supposed to take. They are never and I am repeating never answering their phone. No matter what department you are trying to reach or what Dr. you're trying to get a hold of they are never answering the phone. My appointment was scheduled at 12 o'clock. It was 12:15 when I decided to ask how far behind they. I was told 45 minutes from Sandra at the front desk. Not even sorry . I got into the examining room at 12:25. It was 1:05 when I walked outside a room to ask if I could have some water because nobody came into the room to apologize or check on me .When you are in pain it's enough it's self not to mention you have to be frustrated and you have to wait hour and 15 minutes for your appointment that was scheduled six weeks before. I finally got into the room I got my injections done and trust me I've had several injections and ablation done on my back I know the relief is instant. Unfortunately that didn't happen this time. On my first visit I was very specific and I told Dr. Blake where I feel my pain this time he decided to go lower without even examining me first he just started poking my lower back with injections. I went to recovery room and waited 10 minutes for someone to show up. After I was asked basic question his assistant asked me how much of a pain do I feel. I said I don't know really my pain level is the same which after he asked and what was that pain level??I mean didn't you write that down when you first talk to me before the procedure.You have to have it written!!!! I was with Dr Blake for three years and at first I was getting good pain relief, then all of a sudden, Blake decided that, regardless of my pain level, my pain medication was going to be reduced. He reduced it so low that I was hurting all the time. When I asked about the reasons why, and expressing my concern that I was hurting all the time now, I was told by Ashley, that even though she new I hurt, this is the way it was going to be. I'm now with Sweetwater Pain and Spine and Dr. Burns, is a God sent. He has helped me so much. One thing I noticed about Burns is he offered shots, ablations, and eventually a pain pump. Dr. Blake's office never offered me any of those. So no, avoid this office at all costs. With that being said, Dr. Jay Morgan, who is a neurosurgeon, is absolutely awesome. He is one of the best. Dr Blake's office is on the pain management side, and Dr Morgan is on the neurosurgery side. Don't confuse the two. They are not even close to being the same. The referring doctor wanted my husband to be seen the same week. I understand that some office are book out more in advance than this that was not the problem. The problem was that you could never get hold of anyone that knew what was going on. They could find the MRI that was sent to them weeks later there asking my husband if he even had a MRI don't yet. Finely we have appointment. Most of the staff was unhappy and short and where acting as if they hated there life. The wait was short, and the doctor did come in very quickly. But he just abruptly short, and did try to explain anything. He acted like he was just doing what he had to get rid of us. I am a 2012 Afghanistan Vet who blew a disk and fractured a vertebra while I was deployed. The VA didn't grant me surgery until May 2015 but when I was finally put in for surgery I was referred to Dr. Khosla by other doctors and nurses whom have had surgeries by Dr. Khosla. Two outstanding character traits Dr. Khosla has are patience & humility. I instantly felt safe & confident when I met him the first time even though the meeting was brief. He also took the time to see me every day at the hospital until he released me. I am 12 days removed from an L5-S1 surgery and I am already able to walk a mile. I'm just determined to be in better shape than I was before the injury, I guess. I highly recommend him. Dr. Khosla - Patient, Humble and an Exceptionally skilled surgeon. And his entire staff is fantastic. They have been quick at replying to my emails (within 24hours). Props to Andrew for putting up with all the military and VA forms. You're the man. By the work from Dr. Khosla's hands and by the abounding grace of God, I am free from narcotics and the bad pain I was in. read more

If you are in pain from a neurological disorder, don't expect to get quick service from here. As an established patient, I needed to schedule a repeat of a procedure. I made the appointment but the soonest they could see me for it was 1.5 months. I agreed. Two weeks later, they called back and said my insurance company needed me to come in for a consult first before they would pay for the procedure. SNG would have to cancel my initial treatment appointment because they could not schedule the consult before the scheduled treatment date! That would mean my original treatment appointment would now be extended out at least 2.5 months!! So sorry you are in pain. read more

Was very unimpressed. I was referred to see Dr. Demer for residual numbness and weakness in my leg from a spinal injury. His schedule is rather booked so I opted to see his Physician Assistant in order to get in sooner. The PA was very professional and spent time reviewing my history and my current concerns. Mainly, wanting to make sure that nothing was still irritating the nerve and that I could push through increasing my physical activity despite my increase in numbness. The PA said she would confer with Dr. Demer, have him review my case, & both of them would return with their answer. Upon entering, the first words out of his mouth were, "Well, you don't need surgery." I was certain he had walked into the wrong room and quickly replied that was never a concern for me and that wasn't why I had come to see him. He never examined me or repeated any of the significant findings that the PA had found and quickly said I was fine and shouldn't be concerned about the numbness & weakness I was experiencing. I had to stop him from quickly trying to leave the room to ask him to explain why I was still having these symptoms if everything was indeed fine & how long I could expect to continue to feel "fine". My overall impression.... Unless you need surgery, he's not interested. He will not spend any quality time trying to diagnose and he is apt to rush you out the door if he doesn't anticipate their being a knife involved. I have been treated by several physicians in my history with my back. My father is an orthopedic. I know the difference between good and bad care. I prefer doctors that will take the time to answer your questions and suggest surgery as a last resort not push it as their first treatment plan. Save yourselves the time and spend it with another doctor who's going to listen and not rush you on to his operating table. read more

My pain Dr sent me for a surgery consult. I saw the PA not Dr Vacca. I am terrified of surgery as I have other serious health issues and my surgery in 2018 almost killed me. I told her this. She had my MRI and really could say nothing to reassure me. She was just like ok we don't push surgery on people. I was trying to ask what my specific surgery would entail and she didn't know the answer. Just felt like a waste of time and money. Precious energy I took to get out of bed and shower being sick with chronic illness. I want to speak to an actual surgeon. How can you commit to a surgery if you don't know all the details or even meet your surgeon? Oh the kicker. A full course of physical therapy (for a chronic condition that won't get better) just to get a MRI. She wouldn't even TRY to see if my insurance required the physical therapy. She also told me my pain Dr might wean me off meds if I don't have surgery because that's happening all the time. So I have to risk my life for pain control now? What happened to caring about the patients quality of life? I want to know everything before I commit to any surgery and I am entitled to! Thank god for Kratom!! My husband rushed me into St. Mary's ER, on Oct. 11, 2015, after I had just found out from a neck MRI, that I had a "mass", in my lower left brain, by the stem. I was not able to walk very well that morning so I called my husband at work and he came home to drive me to ER: We got there at 10:30am and by 1pm, I was admitted and given a room. Dr. Jay Morgan, [was on call] but ALL the nurses and Dr's, in the hospital said "Dr. Morgan IS THE BEST " !!!!!!! He came to my room that evening and said he put me in 1st for surgery at 5am. I had a cerebellum covered tumor. I couldn't smell or taste for at least 2 weeks. I begged to go home after 6 days, and since I was doing so well, I was allowed to go home.
