I have been coming here for a few years now and I've seen quite a few different doctors for different things wrong in my body! Dr. Fyda did my knee surgery in January. Last July 2025 I fell down my stairs and broke my left hip, I had to go to the emergency room and a doctor over at Swift Institute was on the Emergency side of it, and replaced my hip with a few screws. Well, the screws were coming out as I walked, so I saw Dr. Winkle back at great basin, and he said you're gonna have to have your hip totally replaced, as the screws are poking out.! I ended up in the hospital a few days after surgery with a stomach problem, and he actually came by to see me, and it had nothing to do with my hip, he just wanted to make sure I was OK! Absolutely incredible Dr, I highly recommend him and any doctor at Great Basin Orthopedics! The best! I needed a nausea medicine, and unbeknownst to Dr. Winkle the medicine he gave me for nausea also helped the stomach problem I was having so I could eat again, no other doctor has ever prescribed that medicine for me and I get these stomach issues a lot, we were really impressed! My experience with Great Basin Orthopedic has been nothing short of fantastic. I injured myself running (turned out to be a stress fracture at the neck of my femur) and it all came to a head while running a marathon in Florida. Flew home to Reno on a Monday, and was in GBO Tuesday morning. Did X-rays and an MRI the same day (in office, nonetheless!) and was back at GBO on Wednesday meeting with the surgeon. Had surgery on Friday. Granted, some of this efficiency was luck, and obviously my insurance's ability to turn around quick responses, but I've never seen an office move more efficiently and effectively. Every staff member I've met along the way was kind, patient, caring, sympathetic, and went out of their way to make this horrible situation a 5-star experience. Allie Janas was the most empathetic orthopedic nurse I've ever encountered and Dr. Winkel and Dr. Dickens (who did my surgery) were patient with me, answered all my questions, and openly discussed several surgical and non-surgical options. The mri technician, Kevin, made sure I could get on and off the mri table without hurting myself. There was a guy who works with Allie who literally called around town to help me find crutches in the right height. Cathy worked miracles to get me a same day mri and surgery in 48 hours. I wish I could recall the names of all the staff members I've encountered at GBO so I could name each of them out personally because each of them has been nothing short of wonderful. There's usually not much of a weight when you have an appointment.. they do have an emergency access that you can walk in and say that you have something going on and they'll get you in to see a doctor. They called us to schedule an appointment for my sons broken clavicle, they informed us they could see us at 10:30am (10/13/2025) we agreed to the appointment. We showed up around 10:20ish for check in. Only a handful of people in the lobby before us, however more people started checking in after us and ALL those people were called back before we were.. So what's the point of calling and scheduling an appointment if it's going to take you 30+ minutes to be called back into a room to be seen by a provider? We are called back into one of their rooms at 11:06am then we are STILL waiting in their room to be seen another 15-20 minutes later, CRAZY!!! It's now 11:22am and still haven't seen the provider.. I am so annoyed by my experience with GBO that I am writing my first yelp review in 10 years. I had a fall and sprained my thumb while visiting the Reno/Tahoe area, and I was able to get in and see Dr. Dooley at GBO. I got a hand x-ray, a 5 minute consult with the doc, and basic one-size fits all plastic and Velcro BREG splint on my way out. Then I got a bill for $832, including a $456 charge for the splint (which costs $45-$60 online: https://bracedirect.com/products/breg-versafit-wrist-brace-with-thumb-spica). After multiple angry phone calls, they moved the price down to $603. This place will rip you off. Prospective patients beware. read more

My husband was in a car accident. He got braces for his wrists when they were sprained. The nurse they put them on him had put them on him wrong, according to his physical therapist. He was wearing them the wrong way for 2 weeks before he had seen the physical therapist that showed him the right way. He got in that accident in February. He did not get an MRI ordered. They did x rays and couldn't see anything wrong, but not an MRI. We went back for a check up a month after that. The nurse then also said he would be getting new x rays even though he had already gotten some. The dr came in and said no, he wouldn't be getting x rays. So the nurse was not correctly informed. Also, he went back in for my husband's MRI results (Aaron said the MRI needed to wait until then- so three months later). The results came out good, but my husband is still in pain. Aaron said that if there was something wrong, it healed so now there is nothing else that can be done. They waited a long time for him to get an MRI rather than doing it sooner. Now he has pain that might not go away-at least not for a while, as it has been 3 months and the pain is still there. Also he waited over an hour to see the doctor. The lady that was assisting Aaron filled out his return to work paperwork and did it incorrectly with unnecessary restrictions (that he can't squat). I'm not sure how squatting ties into wrist pain but it was added on there. Hopefully his work accepts it. If not, he will have to go back to primary care to get the paperwork fixed. Should either of us need an orthopedic doctor again, we will be sure to go see someone else that won't delay necessary tests. The two stars are for reception. Going to the doctors is usually synonymous with long waits, poor service and little to no personalities. This was my first visit to Great Basin Orthopedics and the experience was AMAZING. I used their website to book a walk in appointment for the following day with Dr. Janas. I arrived a few minutes early and checked in with a friendly receptionist who gathered my Insurance card and DL. I sat down and within 5 minutes I was called into my appointment. I was escorted by a nice physician assistant to my examination room. He asked a few standard probing questions about my knee pain. Shortly thereafter I was escorted to get some x-rays on my knees. The radiologist technician took x-rays of both knees from all directions. He was very clear as to directions and posturing for the x-rays. Afterwards I was escorted back to the examination room to wait for Dr. Janas. After about 5 minutes she arrived with a professional and courteous introduction. She inquired about my pain in my knee with many questions to help her gain more information about the injury. She gave an overview of her diagnosis and what she recommended for minor treatment that I needed. She threw in some humor and personal information about her family which made me very comfortable. After our visit I "followed the checkout signs" (joke) which concluded my overall experience. From checkin to checkout GBO is a well oiled machine. They have a well organized business model that flows to PERFECTION. I was extremely impressed at every point with my visit. Thank You Dr. Janas and all your team members at GBO. read more

After having rotator cuff surgery on February 26th 2025 I am currently in the more challenging part of my physical therapy. I have been very fortunate to have the absolute best therapist! Joel Peck, DPT has been extremely patient, compassionate and thorough.The first few weeks of my therapy consisted of Pendulum Circles, Scapular Retractions, Prom elbow flexing and extension, Wrist Flexion, Prone Rows, etc. Moving on to the next level I'm concentrating more on exercises that mainly include stretching, strength and posture which is so crucial in order for me to get back my range to motion. I'm learning to master my own strength and to push myself harder during each session. The pain is definitely more prominent but I know I'll eventually get through it! With Joel's guidance and trust, I know that I'll eventually reach my goal. I want to thank him and his entire staff for their patience and kindness thus far! Hubby really starting to get upset, he has a lot of work, but left early.. if he had known this long delay, he could of stayed at work! So, now he went back to the window asking, and the response that he's a"new patient", and that there are two other appointments ahead of him, gives no valid reason .. He was here first, yet still sitting waiting to be called... If it were me, I would get my copay refunded and go elsewhere.. I've been dealing with a shoulder issue for a few years and after trying everything under the sun to control the pain (PT, Accupuncture, etc.) I finally decided to see Dr. Fyda at GBO. I am so glad that I did. The operation is so seamless and the staff is professional and friendly, even in the time of COVID restrictions. I never had to wait very long to be taken to my room. I am now six weeks out of surgery for a torn labrum and am 90% better than I was going in. Dr. Fyda was sympathetic, professional and answered all of my questions and concerns. I had no use of my thumbs and I am so grateful that he was able to do surgery to help me get the Usage back.. his very caring attitude and his professionalism are incredible. the time you check in at the and when the nurse greets you to the entire team they go the extra mile. The young gentleman that does the x-rays is so fun and so good at what he does you don't even care that you're getting your it's just a very upbeat experience. Dr. Dooley's nurse is very professional and Ashley the surgery scheduler as well. After my surgery, I went to great basin orthopedics physical therapy department that is in the same building and again from the time you see the receptionist Lily, who is just such a lovely human being and then I was set up for my exercises by Caleb, who is just so caring and explains . I must say, though that Chelsea the hand therapist is amazing within one visit. I 60% less issues than I had just a few minutes before I walked into therapy for the first time and by the second therapy session I had relief on my thumbs by 80%. It's just amazing how well she knows the anatomy of the hand and goes above and explaining and helping you to thank you GBO for all that you have done for me I am so grateful. read more

Besides being a super cool guy, his credentials are extremely impressive to say the least. It was a honor to have a Doctor who works on professional athletes take the time to work on me. With my shoulder always popping out of socket with ease, Dr Dolan made sure to get me in his tight schedule as soon as possible. He's an amazing person who also went out of his way to drive and perform the surgery at the place my insurance would only cover. His staff and assistant Samantha are just as impressive. Dr. Kickbush gave me a knee replacement, and put it in the wrong socket and it locked up. I had to go to the hospital to have it put back in place so I went back in and he operated on me again and still kept it in the wrong place so I went to the third doctor Dr Owens and she totally redid everything so Dr. kickbush destroyed my Confidence in him my respect and I was in pain for a year dealing with this knee. Thanks to him.! I went in on Nov for knee replacement it popped out so he did it again in February it became painful because it was in the wrong socket so again in May he referred me to Dr Owens ! I was in excruciating pain. He told me I needed more rehab! It pains me to say this because I really liked him and respected him! But what he did to me is not right ! read more

I wish I didn't have to write a review for Great Basin Orthopaedic but I broke my ankle in January so found myself here facing surgery and pretty nervous, having never broken anything before and not exactly keen about the long road ahead to recovery. But the staff here is great. Dr. Shaw walked us through everything and made sure we didn't have any questions and when q few came up before the surgery his staff responded right away. His assistant and his scheduler were great to work with. I hope you never have to have a need to go to an orthopedic practice but if you do (and from folks I have talked to it is very common to need one at some point in life) I can recommend this one. read more

I went to this Ortho clinic to be evaluated because my knees were hurting. They diagnosed me with arthritis in my knees and my knees were bone on bone. They recommended some shots, which I did. On my final visit though, they told me I would need surgery but the only way I could get surgery was to lose weight first. I hate to say it but this clinic discriminates against overweight people (even though some of the doctors are not exactly thin)! Don't go here, make them pay for their discrimination. ROC (Reno Ortho Clinic) DoES NOT discriminate!!! Go there because no person or clinic has the right to decide to not serve you because you are too fat! Michael Lilyquist impressed me with his willingness to share that he did not recall the answer to a question I asked. I always prefer hearing an honest reply rather than smooshing an answer. [smooshing, a term of art]. My point is, he accurately stated probabilities of success for the treatment options available. This made it exceedingly more comfortable to make the decision with which I can feel comfortable. read more

I saw Dr. Dolan, what a joke. He gave me no care at all, but took 10 x-rays. Explained about my knee surgery, he was simply not interested. He said I'll give you a referral to pain management. Never even discussed options. He was rude and condescending. Apparently it's not in his realm of specialties. He just wants to collect the money for the visit. Poor bedside manor and presentation. Coincidentally my neighbor has the exact same response when she went there. She said if I would have know, I would have steered you away from that place. Why do these doctors think they are gods and they cant even perform aspirating a cyst. LOL what a jerk. read more

Outstanding! As I get older and body parts fail I need some help. I had some knee issues and again went to GBO. The appointment was set and I seen Dr. Kieckbusch. He evaluated my knee, scheduled an MRI, and once completed I did my follow up appointment to review the results. After a clear explanation of my MRI he recommended treatment. As I was telling him about my knee pain history, I could tell he wasn't listening at all. He bent my knee a few times and said "yep it's swollen".
