We had made a reservation for 3nights 9-12 Sept and as a precaution I decided to contact the Siesta Motel to ask about their Covid-19 compliance precautions and what those might entail. Surprisingly I was greeted by a very 'hostile' clerk Julie Hernandez who was quizzing me about my upcoming reservation and stating she could not see us in her system. I let her know that I had just placed it , but the question I had was regarding covid and what if any extra precautions they be taking. She never did answer even after I asked if we could start over allowing for a 'regroup' Ultimately : Her response was for me 'cancel my reservation' if 'I was that concerned' we have a child at home and take precautions every day I was asking so that I feel good about making the reservation! Hospitality industry should never be unwilling nor hostile or rude in making you feel that you made the right decision to book a stay at any time much less given the current environment. This is the second year in a row my husband and I have stayed at the Siesta. We came in this past weekend for three nights and couldn't have been happier. This is a cozy, clean, hotel and the owners are so friendly and accommodating. The bed was comfy, the courtyard is nice and well maintained, and the trolley picks up a half a block away to take you downtown. Great find on Main Street at the last minute. $85 isn't inexpensive in my book but it is for high season in Durango. Cozy, clean with soft mattress and great pillows. Owner and staff are super friendly and take great pride in being family owned. Our room is exactly like the photos posted. Good selection of TV channels on smaller flat screen but adequate for what we needed. Received a AAA rate so saved a few bucks. Small refrigerator and coffee maker, free wifi. Typical motel towels and basic bars of soap - no other amenities. Would stay here again but won't need to as we are moving to town but our townhouse wasn't ready until tomorrow. The sign says it's the best kept secret in Durango, and that might be right, esply considering the high prices of other places. It's not a chain, but a throwback to independently owned and operated motels. The couple who own it are very nice, friendly, and helpful, and care a lot about providing a good experience. It's old but comfortable, roomy. Our room had a well-stocked kitchenette. It was quiet and well-located. No terrible negatives: a clock by the bed would have been good to tell the time upon waking up in the dark. The a/c was hard to operate; no instructions, though a modern and functioning unit. I was in Durango unexpectedly and walked into this little jewel without knowing a thing. It looks like the kind of Mom and Pop motel from my childhood and I much prefer a place with a little character rather than a boring chain motel. They only had one room left: a two room suite with a kitchenette. Since it was late in the day and I was traveling solo they gave it to me at the same rate as a regular room. It was perfect: comfortable firm mattress, great water pressure in the shower that did not run out of hot water, and friendly service. I am also very sensitive to odors, including overbearing cleaning supplies and perfumes. None here. They also provided a coupon for the Durango Diner which was another great find. I'm not giving it five stars because it's luxurious; I'm giving it that for being exactly what I needed from a quaint little Mom and Pop motel. read more

I stayed at the Siesta a few weeks ago so I could interview with a business in town. Initially I looked at the big hotel chains and their prices were much higher ($130/night for a king) than I had hoped to spend. I'm glad I looked a little more and found the Siesta! I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The family that runs the location are super friendly and very helpful. I stayed in Room #5 with a king sized bed ($85/night for a king during high season) and the bed was very comfortable. The room (and I believe all the rooms) has it's own little air conditioner and I was able to keep the room frosty like I need it in order to sleep well. The bathroom for my room did not have a tub, so if you have children who take tub baths make sure you get a room with a tub; however, for me, I could care less about a tub and it was perfectly fine! The room and bathroom were very clean and I'm so glad I decided to stay away from the chain hotels for my stay. The outside of the hotel is painted very nice and there's a cute little lawn area for people to sit and visit and there are chairs outside each room to also sit and enjoy the outdoors. There is definitely enough parking for all the rooms, but if you have a small car--be careful you don't park in the corner parking spot near #5 because rude people with big trucks can block you in. That was my only issue and that's nothing of the owner's fault at all...just rude people who don't know how to park. P.S. I found out I made it to the final interview stage so I will be reserving my room with the Siesta again! :) read more

I have fallen in love....with a motel. Lol this place is adorable. Our room (and the rest of the grounds) was clean, comfortable, convenient, and the owner and his wife were so friendly. Our room was cozy ("small") but that's all we needed. The amenities were perfect, and it was very quiet. Being a single mama, I felt very safe there with my son. I have stayed here countless times since moving away from Durango and I'll definitely keep coming back! I don't spend much time in the room (other than to sleep and shower) and why would you anyway in this awesome town?! It's definitely an older style motel (which is why the rooms are on the smaller side) but it's clean and exactly what you need for a stay in town. The room I usually stay in has a refrigerator which is good for leftovers. I'm under the impression the rooms are different depending on what you're looking for but it's usually just me and my fiancé. The price is good - but do remember this is a tourist town so hotels (especially during any peak season or when an event is going on) aren't on the cheaper side regardless of where you stay (unless you stay at one of the hotels in town that aren't clean!). This is a great little Motel. The rooms are spotless, the beds are comfy, & the baths are stocked with plenty of towels. There's a hot tub in the courtyard, sparkling clean, inside a gorgeous gazebo. If you want to cook your own meals, book one of the suites with a full kitchen. They come with a full size gas stove, and plentiful dishes, pots & pans, etc. There's a gas grill & picnic tables in the courtyard, and we loved watching the hummingbirds! This place was just lovely. For $70/night, you get two queen beds, a kitchenette (mini fridge, microwave, stove with two burners, and cooking utensils/pots/pans/coffeemaker), a comfy chair, a bathroom (shower, no bath), a TV, and a mini dining table with two chairs. And free wifi. It was all clean as a whistle and fresh, with none of that damp feeling that some hotel rooms can have. The heater worked like gangbusters, and I saw an AC unit by the window (though we only needed the heater). The staff was accommodating (their office closes at 6 pm in the winter, but they left the key for us after I called to make a reservation!). It's not fancy, but holy cow it's an amazing deal for $70, clean, cute, and really comfy. The bed was awesome, by the way--I slept really well both nights that I was there. Plus the kitchenette was such a boon--it meant that I didn't have to pay for meals out constantly. It's at the north end of town, so not really within walking distance of fun downtown stuff, but enh--that didn't bug me. If you're in Durango, absolutely stay here! read more

Rolled into Durango late and lucked out to have found this place. Super nice staff and very accommodating. The rooms are very comfy and clean. We got a king w/kitchenette which made life good. We had the option of cooking in or going out and piling doggy bags in the fridge. TV is stocked with channels which made it easy to zone out after a long day of driving. A five minute drive to main street made it easy to get around town at will to get to shops and restaurants. Grateful for a comfy stay in this quaint, charming motel. Great Value and Very Homey I find chain hotels boring. I like places with character. And I like places where you meet the owners at the front desk. Siesta Motel is just right. It is comfortable and homey. Siesta is an old-style Mom & Pop motel. But unlike many of those, Siesta tries very hard to stay up-to-date and provide good service. There are lots of extra touches in the rooms that show they really care. We've stayed there twice now and we would happily return. read more

My boyfriend and I are traveling through Colorado from California and love staying at family owned and ran hotels. Not a fan of chain hotels (or restaurants). We pulled up to this place and we were not disappointed! We were greeted by Marlene, who I believe runs this place with her husband, and were offered some great places to try for dinner. I would give this review a zero stars if that was an option. I had a reservation at the Siesta hotel, when I showed up at 8:45pm the office was closed but there was a phone number for after hours. After calling the number numerous times and leaving messages, the manager Marlene finally answered, after telling her my name and that I had a reservation, she said they were closed and hung up. There were no other rooms available in Durango that night, so we had to drive another hour to find a room. Even though I was unable to stay in my room, I was still charged for it. For a "Family owned business since 1975" they were not very helpful, I understand policies but when someone answers the phone, hangs up and still bills you for a room that you weren't allowed to stay in, it is very bad business practices. Siesta Motel is amazing. Outside of their cool laid back vibe their hospitality is top notch and this place is CLEAN! We got delayed on our trip into Durango and they were very accommodating getting us into our room after hours. Friendly is an understatement. This family friendly family owned establishment has been our best stop yet on our trek thru Colorado. Great beds, clean restrooms and room. Wish we had gotten here earlier to take advantage of the outdoor area. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel experience this probably isn't it but if you'd like a homey comfortable relaxed local, this is it! We will be back. read more

After a weekend in Mesa Verde, my boyfriend and I decided to spend an extra day over in Durango. We searched the interwebs for something with an atmosphere that was affordable and was close to downtown. The Siesta seemed like a close fit from the reviews we read, and it was lovely! It is obviously the owners take pride in this place. The rooms were cozy and decorated warmly. Personal touches were everywhere, from the decorative towel flower left on our bed, to a handwritten note on our dresser. The staff were incredibly friendly in a genuine way. The gal at the office chatted with us awhile and helped us plan our Durango adventures. The rooms were clean, bed was comfy, and linens were great. The Siesta is a short drive (5 minutes or so) from downtown and it also has a trolley stop right by the entrance. Trolley rides are free! read more

Greeted with smiles and genuine interest in our vacation by the very friendly husband and wife ownership in the office. Our room was clean, decorated in a fun theme, and well maintained. I'd really like to dock a star and a half for the fact that the rooms could really use an overhaul but I can't because the owners were so freaking nice and the service was spot on. We were upgraded to a room with a kitchenette simply because it was available and we were staying for a while, no extra charge just a sweet gesture by Marlene. Rooms were cleaned promptly and restocked with fresh linens everyday. Seriously one day we were gone for no more than 1/2 hour and returned to a sparkling room. Marlene was super nice and accommodating with our super late check in and even texted me confirmation and instructions. Larry offered me free Sodas from their mini fridge in the office. Seriously not a big deal just canned Coke and I was searching for my stash of $1 bills and he insisted I just take a couple (I still paid because I'm not one to take advantage but super super sweet) Highly recommend you stay here if you are in town. read more

After reading all the great reviews on here I thought we were in for a treat. Boy was I wrong. First of all we did come in peak tourist season but we paid $130 a night for a TINY hotel room. It was definitely the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in and I'm not being snobby about this. It barely fit a full sized bed and a small vanity. So this price seemed insane for what we got. What really made us mad though was an incident that night. My boyfriend and I went out for dinner and upon returning to our room we found it to be locked. We had a key for the handle but not for the bolt lock. The bolt lock is what seemed to be locked. We had our dog with us so all we could figure out is that she accidentally locked the bolt lock. Well all of the after hours numbers that they provided were inside our room. After we found the number from some other very friendly guests also staying at the hotel we called the number provided. Given it was only 9:00pm we didn't think it would be too much of a problem. But they didn't call back within 15 minutes all while we're standing outside our room not able to get in. We knocked on the door since they live on the property but had no luck. After about 45 minutes and multiple phone calls the guests who had given us their number really helped us out. They were able to get the window unlocked and we were finally able to get into our room!! The owners finally answered us after the other guests knocked on their door profusely. But the owners just called our room, asked if we did damage to the window and that was it. Didn't say sorry for the inconvenience or anything. Needless to say we were very grateful to the people from Iowa who helped us out so much! But not very grateful to the owners who did not help us out at all!! I definitely won't be staying here again, and I would suggest you find another affordable, hospitable place to stay!!!! read more

Very good location. The owners/front desk were all very helpful and accomodating. The rooms were definately dated, but the owners had done a lot of work bringing most all of the necessities (Shower, sink, etc.) up to date. Unfortunately, the structural aspects of the place are lacking. We could hear our neighbor very clearly snoring. The walls were that thin. If you're a light sleeper, you might look elsewhere. read more

Stayed at the Siesta Motel for just one night, wished it could have been more. Vintage furnishings, reminded me of being a kid, even had a pink bathtub, you don't see that in a chain motel/hotel. Nothing fancy, but clean and tidy. There did not offer breakfast but that gave us a reason to go out for breakfast! There was some outdoor seating, but a pool would have made it better! A great value in Durango. One of the most clean and well-maintained motels I've stayed in. It is not fancy, but the owners are friendly and the property is well cared for. There is no pool or continental breakfast, so if those are important to you, look elsewhere. The only other downside is that you do need to drive or take the (free) trolley into downtown Durango. Overall, however, this is a great option in Durango. read more

This motel is clean, well kept, and has nicely decorated rooms. It appears to be an old property from the 1950's - 60's era, and the room size and design reflect that. We were in a queen bed room which was very small. Barely enough room to walk between the end of the bed and the wall. I would recommend this room at a $70-$80 price point, but at the $125 price that we were charged, this property is in with a whole different set of competitors, and comes up lacking. At this price, you expect things like a free breakfast, in room microwave and refrigerator, and more importantly, enough room to not feel squeezed, none of which this room had. Even a clock would have been nice. So, in my opinion, a nice economy room that is very overpriced, thus earning only two stars. I feel there has to be a better value for the money in Durango. read more

He suggested a road trip through silverton/ouray/telleride that was one of the most beautiful drive's I've ever taken. Motel was clean and charming. read more
