They are great in the winter, to keep the rain away from the windows, and the house nice and cosy, and in the summer to keep the hot summer from shinining into the rooms. Makes a huge difference. They are not cheap, but that's because they manufacture and install their own high quality shades, with no middleman. The 5% black shade we had installed has made a HUGE difference in our giant south facing living room window. We previously had a blackout curtain on the inside, but our double paned window glass was still hot to the touch on the inside. The solar shade has completely stopped all of that heat transfer, and our air conditioning has started turning on literally hours later as a result. The solar shade has also made TV watching possible all day long without needing to close the blackout curtains. The best part is we haven't lost our beautiful view when the shade is down. The price was great considering 3 of my 4 windows were custom sizes (two of them 52"x52", another 34"x48", and 1 'standard' size). They delivered all 4 skylights to my house and offered to take away the old ones. I had not removed them at that point. The aluminum frames are very strong. I had a tree fall on my house only a few months after installing the skylights. one of them took the fall and held up very well. the rest of the roof and framework caved before the skylight did. JC Barry build a replacement for me about a week after the tree fell and the roof repair. When they delivered the new window they took away the old plastic domes I had stored. They recycle them for new materials, or keep them around in case a future customer needs a replacement. I was happy to get rid of them without having to pay! I highly recommend JC barry. Great staff, knowledgable and friendly. not much for a show room but when it comes down to it, they manufacture a superior product compared to skylights made by VELUX. VELUX uses plastic snap in pieces to hold the joints together that support the window pane. JC Barry units have seam welded aluminum.

This is a long overdue review, finally writing because I had Case do a second project. The first…read morewas converting two bedrooms into a master bedroom and a half bath. That extensive project was done well, managed the things we discovered in the old walls, and made right some minor missteps. I had explained how important redoing the backyard was, and while they don't do that work they did go out and find an excellent partner and worked very closely to ensure the schedules worked out. The second project was smaller, mostly just refinishing the house before selling it. This time around they put up with my schedule issues (the other aspects of getting ready to sell caused trouble) and were patient and helpful throughout. Their subcontractors were all friendly and professional. Bottom Line: would use again and recommend to anyone. Tip: With any construction, the better you make your decisions and document them the happier you'll be!

He and his guys were so professional and kind from start to finish. They did a beautiful job and cleaned up so nicely every day. They always came exactly when they promised which is better than a lot of contractors that I have used. All of the crew really knew what they were doing and did it with great craftsmanship and care. I had a little security light break off during the installation and they came right to me and were so apologetic and wanted to order a new one right then and there which they promptly put back. It wasn't a big deal for me, but it shows the kind of care and honesty that they have for their customers. Mike was also wonderful at returning calls and emails and answering questions which I really appreciated despite that he's very, very busy. I don't find a lot of contractors that are so attentive these days. I even accidentally overpaid Mike on the last installation and before I could even call him to tell him my mistake he has already put a refund check in the mail!!!!! Bottom line: While they might not be the very cheapest they are very professional, skilled and trustworthy. Mike came back out to the house to re-measure and discuss our options. His team showed up the day after the windows (and door) arrived and they were installed within 2 days. His crew was super courteous, kept everything clean and were just very pleasant to have around the house while they were here. The new windows have made a huge improvement in the temperature inside our home and muting the exterior sounds. We had original 1932 windows. At first we thought they were cute - period details! Then when we refinanced the appraiser flat-out told us you NEED to replace all of the old windows if you want a higher appraisal. Hard to say no to that :) These guys are great. After working with dozens of home improvement contractors over the years Mike and his team are a breath of fresh air.

I have been waiting to write this review, so I could give Cal Window some big props on handling two separate disputes with the Velux factory for a new product they introduced this year - custom-size blinds. While Velux is arguably the best skylight manufacturer out there, they also appeared to have some operational issues launching their new custom-blinds product and twice shipped two incorrect orders, first with a skylight, then with blinds. I do want to applaud Sean for how he handled things in a winsome way. Velux didn't want to own the first mistake, but Sean was persistent and was able to drive it to resolution...and then same on the second mistake the Velux factory made. All three skylights are now installed with the correct custom-size automated blinds and they work great...and the skylights are great! Thank you Sean, Gloria, Alex, Nancy, and Patrick for the constant communication letting me know where things stood. I am looking forward to working with you all again!
