It's BINGSU long since I've last visited @ye.stage.and.tea , but I'm so glad I was able to stop by again! This hidden gem on the third floor above California Market specializes in traditional Korean teas and desserts, which you can tell are high quality and authentic by all the ahjussis and ahjummas that visit the cafe. In addition to brewed teas, their menu also features boong-o-bbang, bingsu, Korean cookies/pastries, coffee, and non-caffeinated lattes. I appreciated the soothing traditional Korean string music playlist and occasional live music performances, and this place is definitely a better spot for working/studying in comparison to the loud, crowded trendy cafes in the area. The cafe also has free WiFi, restrooms for customers, and free parking in the structure. Featured here: strawberry bingsu: this was beautifully presented, although I wish the ice crystals were more delicate. One thing about K-town restaurants is that they generally don't have much in terms of desserts and after dinner drinks. But fortunately for us, K-town has "coffee shops" on practically every block. One of my favorites is Ye Stage & Tea on the roof top floor of the California Marketplace. The ladies who run the place always give great advice and treat us like family. And they take such care with their desserts and drinks that you feel like they're giving you dishes straight from a cookbook photo shoot. Ye Stage & Tea was a random spot I stumbled across when exploring the California Market. Decided to give it a try, since there wasn't any other options for drinks. This place was a hidden gem! The staff was very helpful in answering all questions about the types of drinks and about the store. I ordered the strawberry smoothie (with oat milk) and got it within a few minutes. When ordering, the staff gave many options to substitute for milk, which I appreciated as someone that is lactose intolerant! They gave me a ringer that will notify me when the order was ready, which was helpful while I was looking around at the other shops. The drink was on the sweeter side and a bit more icy. However they play traditional music quite loudly which has alot of loud and sudden beats which threw me off a bit. And even the interior is great and stylish, decorated without crowding the space, sparingly, which is important for my psychological peace. This place is run by an organist wife and Korean musical (pan-sori) singer husband, and the cafe is actually a mini stage with all the due lighting so that there are occasional musical performances. The mall area was pretty quite around 10am on a weekday - so quiet that a lot of the stores including this one were not yet open at their advertised hours. The owner opened shop around 10:30am and then we had a short wait after that for the waffle iron to heat up. The taiyaki was worth the wait - so warm and chewy! We tried the nutella, cream, and plain taiyakis and I actually preferred the plain the most. Our eyes wandered around the cute store while we chewed. There is Japanese decor and historical items with educational blurbs on every wall including walls used as table dividers. Ye Stage & Tea is located in the rooftop food court of the California Market. My friend and I had Hanbat across the street and we wanted some bingsoo to combat the hot weather. The yuzu shaved ice was disappointing. Presentation was fine at first glance, but taste and quality was severely lacking. First, the ice was NOT powdery snow. The poster plastered outside is false advertisement as the ice in the bowl was crushed ice of different sizes clumped together. Second, fruits were NOT fresh at all. The strawberries and blueberries were freeze-dried in texture. Third, the entire bowl was covered in mandarin oranges. The only yuzu flavor I tasted was probably some syrup mixed in with the condensed milk for taste. Last, the few pieces of mochi were rock hard from the cold. In the end, we left 2/3 of the dessert behind. For $18, why didn't we just go to Oakobing and/or Sul & Bean for way less? Lol horribly overpriced without any justification. read more

The place was a bit hard to find and we definitely walked around California Market (like kids who wandered a little too far from mom) before realizing it was on the third floor of the building. They serve taiyakis, cookies, bingsoo, and a variety of other dainty desserts. There's a minimum of 3 taiyakis per order so we got two red bean and one custard. They all came out piping hot and perfectly sweet. Their barley grass tea was soothing with it's earthy, leafy tones but was a whooping $8 per cup. It did come in a super unique teacup and I suppose you could ask for hot water refills to get more bang for your buck. There's a stage in the back of the cafe, hence the name, and the ambiance was cozy. Perfect place to spend time alone as well as meet up with friends. There were several people working and studying but I didn't see too many outlets around. Adorned on several walls were ceramic items and paintings for sale. My bf surprisingly really liked this place and felt the prices were justified for what it is. I was hungry for a little café snack and was really happy that this tea spot was right above the market. I saw that they had some bungeoppang! I can't say no to crispy delicious snacks so I bought the minimum which was three. Had to go with the classic custard and Nutella. The fish came out very crispy and just enough join us on the inside for a chewy crunch. I also ordered a plum green tea, which hit the spot since it was a hot day. I wanted to enjoy the sun, so I went to sit outside and got my order to go, but there was plenty of space inside. If I had the afternoon or wanted to spend a long amount of hours working on my computer, this is a great secret spot to get away since it isn't busy. The rice waffle which I thought would have a chewier texture was very dry and unpleasant to eat and I felt like the toppings didn't marry well with the waffle itself because the shaved almonds didn't actually stay on and the blueberries were frozen so that was interesting. The hazelnut latte was underwhelming and I thought could be way better. The taste was too syrup-y and it didn't taste like coffee enough for me. The taiyaki was pretty good because it's fresh and warm so it's probably the best thing that we ordered. Started from the Bottom now I'm Here! Located on the third floor of the California market place this is the pinnacle of cute A$$ tea houses. With so many delicious eye pleasing choices I just went with a few knowing I would be back. Starting off with the waffle but not just any ordinary one this pretty little thing had shaved almonds with blueberries drizzled with honey on top of the rice waffle. So interestingly D!!! Lish! To accompany my rice waffle I had the Korean cookie set which I always love and it always makes me want to order a nice cup tea after my first little nibbles. I also got their YE signature latte and why do you ask well, multigrain with black bean and sesame along with mugwort that what! This was seriously Delish!!! To top off this epic experience was the service that couldn't be any better! They made me feel at home like I did back in the day when I walked these streets exploring the culture as a kid. Last night I stopped by Ye Tea, looking forward to a relaxing time with my friend to enjoy some tea and we get HARASSED by their security guard downstairs. (Reason I have to take off stars) It's unfortunate because Ye Stage Tea is one of my favorite tea places in town and I love that they provide free parking in the structure below. But every time I come, I get followed by the security guard. Last time he followed me to this tea spot upstairs and yelling at me until he saw that I was here for Ye Tea. I didn't think much of it and didn't add it to my review because it didn't affect my experience... But last night my experience is unacceptable. After parking downstairs, I bought some groceries and decided to get a bite for dinner across the street before returning for some Ye tea with my friend. He security guard followed us and started yelling in Korean and pointing his finger very close to my face. I was so confused, showed him my receipt and he shrugged off angrily. After dinner I return to the parking structure to get to the elevator to the second floor. While waiting for the elevator, the security guard started calling us a liar and yelling in broken Korean English asking where I was going. I said the tea place upstairs. Called us a liar and shake his finger at us a few more times before the elevator finally arrive. This is HARASSMENT and made my experience very stressful.. especially terrible since I came here to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea to catchup with my friend. So many cute spots in Korean town and MayLene D. and I both thought Ye Stage & Tea would be a cute tea house to check out. Good luck finding street parking nearby. The entrance is off of 5th street to get into CA Marketplace and Ye Stage & Tea is located on the 3rd floor. I will give them the cute points. Plenty of patio seating or interior parking. Pay at the cashier to start and then seat yourself. I especially appreciate their decor with the Korean paintings. For our beverages MayLene D. had a regular Green Plum Tea ($7) and I had a large Sikhye Rice Drink ($8.50). We both actually liked our drinks. No complaints there. And then I feel like we got tricked into getting the Korean Cookie Set ($12). MayLene D. wanted the Korean Cookies and even emphasized that she wanted the smaller portion and somehow we ended up with this set of cookies. This set comes with 3 different types of bites. There was one that was too sweet for both of us. Then there was the one MayLene D. actually wanted than ended up tasting super weird... like oily but airy. And then the sesame and seeds candy-like thing that was the most okay. Not recommended. I also saw someone else order shaved ice and I LOVE shaved ice so we asked the cashier lady about it. She mentioned they have three flavors and the strawberry was the best and most popular pick. We listened to her advice unfortunately and got the Strawberry Shaved Ice ($17). There was BARELY any strawberries. Just a few thin slices on the top and when we dug to the bottom there was just ice. All of the toppings can be seen in the photo. Barely strawberries, mochi, blueberries, 2 strawberry straw cookies and this grain powder that had a strange aftertaste. Don't get the shaved ice. It was awful and definitely not worth the price tag.
