I took public transit and walked on over but there is theoretical metered street parking outside if you're lucky. Tea Ceremony (black) 5/5, I really enjoyed this! They verbally walk you through a how-to process for the tea steeping, provide you with a timer and all the equipment and have refillable water for you. This came with dried fruits and and choice of pastries; I opted for 2 egg tarts which were light, flaky, and stuffed full of egg!! There's a bathroom outside of Steep that they have the code for and there is wifi present so there are people on their laptops although I did witness someone take a work call in the cafe which I thought was odd?? Unfortunately, I came on a weird day after several private events in a row, and the only "big bite" item they had was the beef noodle soup. It was decent, but not extraordinary. The soup was brothy (not thick), flavorful, but a little sweet. The beef was a bit drier than I liked. The portion was ok. I also had the iced guava oolong. It was refreshing, but you really cannot taste the tea. They are inside a courtyard across the street from Phoenix Bakery. It may be somewhat tricky to find if you're looking for a standalone storefront on the street. There is metered street parking but I later found out that the building has its own parking. Dinner food options were underwhelming so would not recommend for a real dinner. The taste was decent, portion kind of iffy. Service is generally good, bathrooms are clean to use. Parking not bad, just if it's late, and it's a busy night, be aware some streets close by are dark which aren't a problem since area doesn't feel unsafe but I'm a dude so YMMV, think it should be fine though. I've visited here before and should've posted sooner. Night life in Chinatown is underrated. Often I'm here in the daytime of the weekends for local dim sum. But there is a fantastic night life here with many restaurants and bars buzzing. Steep is one of them. They sat me and Buddy without reservations. (Something I'll have ready next time). But honestly anywhere you sit inside or out is great. We were inside at a short counter and short barstools. Comfortable. Service was friendly and chill. Ambiance was laid back, esthetically pleasing, and the had an attractive crowd. I order a salted plum lager and my bro got a Sochu medicine. Check out the Menu for all the cool ingredients. They do have small food plates that nice. This place is a bit pricey, but you should be treating yourself if you're out here. My only nit pick, they offer a free snack. I got the Oolong Cream Soda and Lu Rou Fan (pork belly, marinated egg, pickled radish, steamed rice)--both were very tasty. Have seen some people here for dates and small group settings. Nice place to hang out. Not a big fan of the free popcorn. I discovered this spot in December of last year, and I swear I would go at least twice a month because it was that memorable. From December to May the only thing that I would order was the Japanese scallops with cold soba noodles. The absolute powerhouse that this dish was literally changed the trajectory of my flavor palette forever. I'm really sad that it's off the menu, but I do think that steep is transcending the game and I trust them to crank out even more delicious main dishes. I recently went back last week and I tried the yellowtail rice dish with oolong dashi broth and pickled cucumber (sweet as opposed to acidic)-- I was mesmerized. The yellowtail was succulent and rich with flavor. The broth itself was upfront and tasted like oolong tea and dashi. I would recommend eating it in spoonfuls to taste everything all together because it makes it so much more cohesive and tasty. And do not get me started on the chewy tofu it was incredible. The flavor of garlic was so positively pungent and savory. I had a slight spiciness to it, but it wasn't overbearing. It was so balanced, and the tofu was soaked in flavor. The Hokkaido oolong chocolate tea cake tasted just as the oolong ice cream very soft subtle flavor of brown sugar and oolong. I've tried their oolong tea before and it is so delicious it does not need sweetener. It tastes like brown sugar. I recently had their new guava oolong iced tea, and the initial sip tasted like straight up all along, but once I mixed it in, it tasted like a warm spring day sitting underneath a shaded tree. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and so sleek. They also have a lineup of different tea leaves that you can smell in front of the bar area. They also have a bunch of ceremonial tea cups, and pots in the back of the restaurant and it is just so cute and it's such a beautiful vibe in the middle of the day and at night time. This review has been something I've been cooking up forever because I just have enjoyed my time and my meals here back to back for nine months now. As for the service, I think that it's really sweet that when you make a reservation, they ask if you have any accommodations that you need and the first time that I had ever went with a friend we had put that we were neurodivergent and might need a table that was on the quieter side and I remember the manager kindly greeted us and made sure that we were comfortable with the noise level. Side note: I think the prices per dish are very reasonable. Steep is incredible and I truly hope that everyone is able to experience it. read more

Their food was very tasty, my favorite was their chewy tofu which has a great texture and flavor. Their boon boon noodles also were very savory and a good spicy. That also took another 20 minutes to come out. I'm sure the dessert was already premade since it came out cold. They're either understaffed or just pretty slow. Price/portions: 2/5 This place has good food, but the portions were very small. Like I said, their rice dishes were not anything special, but for $16 I could get two pork belly rice in a nearby shop for less. I definitely left this place still hungry. The reason why I rated this place so low is because they charged a 20% gratuity for our party of six. They had no posted signage nor did it ever say gratuity included for large party on their menus. We called ahead for our party and they did not mention anything about gratuity for large parties. I first visited Steep a year ago and was super impressed by their high quality tea, unique fusion food offerings, and strong cocktails. One dish in particular stood out to me: their chewy tofu in garlic sauce. Tofu is by far my favourite protein source, so I'm always looking for tasty, savoury tofu snacks and entrées. Only downside was it was very loud and echoey and unfortunately, mostly due to a large group nearby. We ended up moving outside where there were many open tables and finished off our tea. I got an Oolong Cream Soda and it was really great! Comes in a can, but the match it with a nice glass of cubed ice. It was very smooth! A really nice taste of tea, but a hint of cream soda. Not sugary and overpowering but a nice mix of cream. Vert refreshing after a hot day! Lastly, we didn't get and food so I can't speak to that. Honestly I was there for a quick tea and not food so I didn't even look at that, but I sure it would be a nice place to grab food as well! Prices looked reasonable. I want to preface this before I start my review. I have been wanting to try the night menu at Steep for a while now because the drinks sound unique and tasty. We've had a couple of the tea drinks before when they were at Smorgasburg recently and really enjoyed those. We were in the area and decided to drop by on a whim. We didn't have reservations, but wanted to check if there was space available. When we walked in around 8:20pm, there was only one employee behind the bar, speaking to someone that was at the bar (possibly an employee who was off the clock). Two more parties walked in behind us and after 5ish minutes, the employee behind the bar seated all of us. We were given menus when seated. Then after about 5 minutes, were given water and a bowl of popcorn, but no mention about putting in orders. There was another employee who seemed like a server, that would appear and disappear, walked around with a tablet, and took selfies with the person at the bar (off-the-clock employee?). He seemed to LOOK busy, but not sure with what. It seemed like they were understaffed for a weekend, and not really efficient. It seemed as though the bar employee was doing multiple tasks (seating, serving, and bartending). I can understand and have empathy for being understaffed, but cannot deal with not being acknowledged for 20-30 minutes despite making eye contact with both employees, especially when I feel like the server was not doing enough. I walked up to the bar area to try to put an order in, but what pushed us over the edge was seeing the party that just walked in get their order taken immediately. This is the first time I, and the other 2 people in my party, felt the need to get up and leave an establishment. If someone had come over and just mentioned that they're understaffed, or that they're a bit backed up, or just acknowledged us in any way, we would've appreciated it and been more okay with waiting around. I'm disappointed that we had such a negative experience considering that I've been looking forward to trying the night menu, and wanting to support a local business.
