The hours that you have in the internet are not accurate. It says you work until 7. I called and you work until 5pm on a weekday. If we work we cannot go unless is a weekend. This is not the first time. One day i went in a weekend they mad3 me sit down and minutes later someone came and they made me get out because the other person had an appointment. It would be nice if they tell you before they sit you on the chair. They told me to wait until they colored the other persons hair. Maybe one hour. I have been going to this hair stylist for nearly 20 yrs, and they are one of the BEST in the area. Great service, nice stylists, and very clean shop, located in a convenient location in a shopping center. Silk Salon is a full service shop, for men as well as women. Their price is very reasonable as well. I always look forward to visits to this Silk Salon hair stylist because it is such a wonderful, pleasurable experience with great service. I keep telling Michelle (the owner) that she needs to keep this shop open for the next 30 yrs at least because that is how long I plan to come to this shop for my haircut. I don't usually step into random salons especially for a haircut, but I had plenty of time to spare since my phone was being repaired nearby. I should've known not to just walk in a random "Asian Salon" (sorry, ya'll know what I mean!). Anywho, I specifically asked for just a TRIM, and I got like 4 inches cut off my hair! I noticed the hair stylist just kept cutting away but could not really see what she was doing since she was kneeling down in back of me while cutting my hair. She said she was just "thinning" it out, next thing you know all my long hair was gone. Yes it looked and felt healthier, but I was completely dissatisfied since I kept telling her I don't want short hair since my hair grows so slow! I found Silk Salon on Yelp, and I decided to give it a try since my wallet was feeling pretty light from my eating out all the time. (I guess, thinking positively, that does mean that I've got a lot of Yelp reviews to write!) My haircut cost me $15, and it looks great. It is missing the sophistication factor that you'll usually find at a high-end salon (or maybe it's just me thinking that there MUST be something missing from a $15 haircut versus a $50 one), but if you're looking for a meticulous, clean cut, this is your salon. Michelle was wonderfully attentive, and I'm glad I gave this place a try. She also talked me into an eyebrow wax for $8, and it's one of the best ones I've had yet. After reading my review about New Elite Salon, a dear friend of mine recommended I try Silk Salon. He said to ask for Michelle as his wife just loves her work. So a couple of months ago, I give Michelle a try and lo and behold, she does the job....and she does it well. Granted, I didn't write a review then, but I probably would've given her 3-4 stars. Today, I decided to go back to Michelle to get a trim. That's right...a trim. WTF!? I said to trim it, not cut almost 4-5 inches off! And I wanted my bangs TRIMMED....why did she cut it above the eyebrows!? I don't have a face for "straight bangs"...homegirl needs it side-swept! Needless to say, I think I look horrible! I was teary eyed on the drive home and as much as my husband tells me it looks fine, *I* am not happy with it! To top it off, last time I was there, I was charged $15....today, $30. I would give this place a solid 3.5/5 stars. I've been coming here for awhile now (~7 years+ ) and I think the saying "you get what you pay" is true. For men haircuts, having a general idea of what you want will always be helpful. Showing a picture has worked for me a couple of times as well. I've learned to ALWAYS get a haircut from Michelle or Hai. These two sisters own the store and have been here since day 1. I generally don't trust the other employees here because most don't have the attention to detail like those two. I generally don't have any complaints here although sometimes I do end up waiting for 30 min + for Michelle or Hai. Weekday special Mon - Thurs is $8 for mens haircut and weekends is $10 As for women haircuts, I would always clarify the price of what you are getting because I've seen some arguments where customers were not happy with the price of their haircut. Once again, my awesome new summer hairstyle was contributed to Michelle's skills. I told her "short and lots of layers" and she did it my way for $15. I lightened my hair a few weeks ago for $110. That wasn't cheap (for me), but I was quoted elsewhere for $250. It took 7 hours at the salon, thank you very much. I was lucky enough to get Michelle on my walk in, seeing as everyone here recommends her and her only. She was courteous and took the time to ask me how I wanted it and told what she was going to do before she did it. Although there were 5 people waiting after me, she didn't rush one bit. I showed her a picture and said I wanted it similar to that but since I'm a slob, I don't want to have to style it for it to look good. It came out looking pretty different though. After a bad experience with a ghetto cheap salon, I decided to take a chance with Michelle to fix my hair mess. I called for an appointment, bonus point for opening on Sundays. Upon arrival, Michelle promptly seated me and asked how I like my hair done. I told her upfront that I had a bad experience and wanted to fix it up, so it looks natural and requires minimal maintenance. She took the time to understand what worked for me and did a great job on my hair. Price is very reasonable: shampoo, cut, blow-dry, style for $25+ tip. Another bonus point when other customers compliment on your new hair-do! Michelle knows her stuff, can't speak for the other ladies though. I've actually had 3 cuts here and not all have good experiences. I figured out to book with Michelle, the owner. 1st visit: Stylist was the girl who sits to the right of Michelle. I was in a rush that day so didn't really pay that much attention. Didn't like it after 2 days. 2nd visit: Got stuck with the same stylist as visit #1. This time I tried to be more firm, dictating exactly how I wanted my hair. She didn't understand English well so I got frustrated. After blow-drying, my hair actually looked pretty decent so I left happy. 2 days later it looked bad again. 3rd visit: Got smart and booked with Michelle. The funny thing was that she looked at my hair and asked me, "Did you get your haircut here last time?" (With a concerned look on her face). I sadly replied, "yes". Thank God she fixed it up! And she did everything I asked. Love the cut and plan to go back again. Tip: Female cuts are $15. If you let them wash your hair, it's another $5. If you let them flat iron your hair, it's another $5. So if you don't want the frills, make sure you tell them to stop. I decided to go to Silk to have my hair dyed dark brown, since my hair was pretty blond I figured wherever I decided to go, they couldn't mess up. Michelle sure proved me wrong. I picked out the brown that I wanted, asked if it was red-based (so my hair wouldn't turn green when it faded), she said yes. Cool. I sat down for about 15 minutes until a lady came and slathered my head, ears, and neck with petroleum jelly. Kinda gross. After the lady put color in my hair I sat there staring at myself in the mirror (there wasn't a magazine at the station, nor did anyone offer me one) I noticed the color looked really red. When I asked Michelle, she said "it's gonna look really nice.. it's red-brown." ...WTF? I told her I wanted a chocolaty brown and she insisted "when I wash it out, it will look really nice, something different." I didn't ask for "different" just plain old BROWN. What felt like days later when she washed out the color and dried my hair, the results: Red-ish, purple, black. Not what I wanted. "It looks really nice on you." She commented, that's great that it looks nice, but not what I wanted. When I told her I really didn't like the red, she tells me it'll fade after a little while. I felt like she did whatever she thought would look best for my hair, with no regards to what I wanted. I regret ever setting foot in that place. read more

Ok, had gotten my nails done nearby, and thought I could use a haircut too. So I went to Silk Salon. My mistake. I walked in and the three stylists were busy with customers and I was told "you have to wait, but it won't be very long", yeah. So, sit there I did, with nothing but an old TV Guide to read. And I sat as the dad of one of the customers came in the shop, complained about his daughter's cut costing $20 instead of the $8 that is posted outside the shop. He was miffed, but when told the $8 cut was for men, he decided to have his hair cut too. So, he was immediately seated for his cut. I waited for 40 minutes all told, and not once was I given any attention whatsoever, and I was the only person waiting to be served. I tried to make eye contact with the stylist who said my wait wouldn't be long, but she absolutely would not look at me. These ladies should learn basic manners and customer service, after 40 minutes wasted, I got up and walked out. Not a word from any of the stylists. There are many good salons, and to be treated in this manner is just not what anyone would want to endure. UGH! read more

I have been trying to find a decent place to get my hair cut since I moved to this area a few months ago. I went the usal super place to get my hair cut and the lady cut herself. And she poked me a few times. I guess the manequins they train on in school don't have ears. So my coworker recommened Michelle at Silk Salon. I stopped in today and asked for a body wave/perm and a new short layered haircut. I have to say that Michelle is amazing and I really appreciate the fact that she talked to me before picking up the scissors. She is a gifted stylest and I would reccomend her to anyone. IT MADE ME PUT 1 STAR BUT I REALLY SAY 00. DON"T GO HERE! I first of all was upset that they cut my and one of my daughters' hair too short. They also styled my daughters' hair after I said that I didn't want them to and she said she was just checking the cut. But then charged me extra for the styling. The worst is that one of my daughters was infested with lice and they said NOTHING AND put the brush she used on her back in her drawer. I am not accusing them of giving her lice by any means. Their school had a very persistent out break and I thought we were done with it all and had not checked her hair in several weeks. But there is no way they could have missed it. Last night when she said there was a bug in her bed I checked her hair and she was completely infested and they were even crawling around. We were there the day before!! I cannot believe that as professional hair stylist you would not speak up and refuse the customer. My daughter also said she put the brush back in her drawer. This is where we got our hair cuts for over two years. It's a great value ($8 for men's cut, $15 for women's cut for those with short hair, and $5 for a nice, long shampoo, which pretty much includes a good scalp massage), BUT there are definitely things to beware of. First and foremost, we recommend making an appointment with Hai. We've had bad experiences with everyone else here. It seems yelpers rave about Michelle, but when Michelle did the first female haircut, it was not good. It was uneven and shorter than asked. From then on, we stuck with Hai and she never let us down. Hai always kept her appointments and took her time with us no matter how many other walk-ins were waiting, huffing and puffing. She is such a nice, sweet person. Some of the other hairstylists here can be pretty salty. Also, remember that English is not her first language, so if you don't speak Vietnamese, be specific and clear about what you want. If you only want a trim and are afraid she might cut it too short, make sure you express it by saying just a little, little bit and showing a very small amount with your fingers. Their hair products are always on sale, too. They carry nice brands, including Crew for men. We highly suggest making an appointment because the patrons here can get pretty unruly as we often witnessed, especially on one particularly bizarre afternoon. But that's another story entirely. It's not a swanky salon or anything, but we would make the drive out because we knew we could trust Hai. read more

After looking for a cheap but quality place to get my haircut, I read the reviews about Michelle on Yelp and made an appt. The salon is located in the DD Discounts center (my navigation sent me the wrong way) and is a typical strip mall salon, complete with "$8 haircut sign." This made me a little nervous b/c I'm a former $100 high end haircut type of person but budget doesn't allow for those type of indulgences anymore :) Although I had an appt, I had to wait about 15 minutes. In that time, all the chairs were full and a steady clientele of men came in. I watched them get their cuts and each one looked good and everyone seemed happy. I didn't find Michelle ovelry friendly, just friendly enough, which is good b/c I don't like chatty stylists. I had washed my hair that AM so she cut it damp/dry which I thought was odd she didn't wet it more. She also had a different technique for layering which I also found strange but it turned out good. Paid $32 total for cut, flat iron and tip (I think the subtotal was $25 without the tip). It was really no frills so I think the price is certainly reasonable. I would recommend making an appt. with Michelle and not chance a different stylist. Make sure you know what you want and explain it to her - she certainly did her best to give me what I was looking for. read more

Over the past year, I've noticed a lot of turnover with the staff and quality's been steadily trending downward with each visit. I really needed a haircut and so I went to yelp for help since I'm new in the area. At first I only found the high end full service salons with rave reviews here. I was really curious how much better would a $75-$100 haircut be vs a regular $25-$30 cut... so I almost made an appointment with one of those salons. But luckily I came across Silk Salon and saw that it would be more on my price range. I made an appointment with Michelle on Friday afternoon. She wasn't available on Saturday and she said I could just come in anytime and one of her friends can cut my hair. I said no and asked for her first available time, and I got a Sunday afternoon appointment. I arrived a little bit early and was told to wait. There was only another customer, an old chinese granny when I came in. And the place is really typical strip mall salon. Nothing fancy. Michelle came out right on time. She's very pleasant and unlike other "affordable" asian salons that I've been to really care about what we want and also gave styling tips. I love my new bob. It came out to be $18 (I had short hair) and I gave her $7 tips. Really recommended if you don't care about full service salon. Just come in with clean hair and you'll come out great !! read more

After moving to San Jose back in November, I hadn't gotten a hair cut and was overdue! Browsing through numerous Yelps for salons in the area, I came across this one that seemed decent. I took the suggestion from my fellow yelpers and called to make an appointment with Michelle. They gave my a 5pm slot on a Sunday! It's a small shop in a corner plaza on Saratoga and Payne. It's Vietnamese owned and walk-ins are OK. I told her what I wanted a trim and to cut my side bangs. For a wash, cut, blow dry style = $30 + $5 tip. I wasn't thrilled with the products they used and she cut my bangs a tad short. She was very nice asking me if this short of a cut was OK or not. Overall, this place is not bad for a cheaper hair cut in San Jose. I'm still on a quest for a great stylist like I found in Camarillo. read more

I went in here because i saw their sign advertising their $8 haircut. I asked the lady to leave it the same as it was, to just clean it up. She decided that meant giving me a number 2 cut on the sides and cutting the top of my hair down to less than an inch. My hair was at least 2 inches before she laid her hands on me. She did such a horrible job that I decided to tell her to just buzz my hair. As you can tell by the picture I uploaded, she only lined up one side, god knows why. Lets just say is another disaster...first she took too much hair from my right side , with uneven hair length, then after I asked her to even it out she took too much from my left side..once again , UNEVEN. Her explanation was , "Oh thats how I cut my layers...." ask if..who does that? Then she went on saying... " oh you have probably have more hair on one side of your head." Even if i do have more hair on one side.. isn't it her job to make it look even.Whatever..Now I look like a freaken FOB. Silks Salon is one of the best kept secrets. Michelle is absolutely wonderful. She genuinly cares about every person that walks in and her staff is well trained just like her. I started going to her, because I was so incredibly hesitant about finding someone who I could trust to touch my eyebrows. I was new in town and had gone to the Tony and Guy ever since I could remember, but I had a couple of friends recommend me to her and now my husband and I refuse to go to anyone else. I've been coming here once every 1.5 -2 weeks for about 1.5 years. I get the same haircut, 0 on the sides and 5 or 6 on top. 97% I have no complaints and don't have to ask for corrections. The last 3 time I've gone, I'm guessing new hires have been cutting my hair, because I've never seen them before. I've either had to ask them to get it shorter or to even out the sides more. I'm not talking like a couple hairs off. It is noticeable unevening on the sides. I got a hair cut today, from the lady who sings, I told her it was uneven and she kept insisting it's too high. Yes, she made one side too high of a fade, but at least even out the lower side to even the fade. I left extremely dissatisfied with my haircut. I know it may seem harsh for a two star review, but the quality is not there. Don't get me wrong, if you get a haircut from Michelle or the lady who cuts on the middle chair on the left side, then you'll get a great haircut. 5/5 stars for them!! read more

I made a hair cut appt the same day I went in (Thanks to Yelp) and made sure to have Michelle as my hair stylist. She did a fabulous job in trimming/styling my hair for $25.
