By all means this used to be my family's and I favorite spot to come here when we were on vacation, we'll they weren't that great for lunch. We waited about 25 mins to get seated. They sat us in the most hottest tightest corner ever. I went up and asked if we were able to move cause it was just way too hot and no air circulation. The waitress we had was a bit rude and seemed like she didnt want to be there after 2 something. I had different questions about the menu and the waitress was just giving us very plain answers for example I asked about the hotdogs brand and she was like this isnt a fancy restaurant its just whatever we have in the back. Came here for breakfast. We were so happy with the overall experience. The quality. The service. The atmosphere. Upon arrival you see them making donuts right up front. Which led to my order of the cider donut French toast. 10/10. My husband ordered the Irish benny. He was more than pleased with the his order. When we got to the Champlain border on a Saturday morning, we lucked out with a very friendly, chatty and pleasant border guard, who told us we absolutely needed to try his fave restaurant for breakfast this weekend - the Silo in Queensbury! Intrigued, we decided to stop here on our way back to Canada :( Sunday morning. Mr. Border Guard was correct! Unfortunately, we couldn't have breakfast as the wait was over 90 minutes and Boyfriend rarely does waiting... but we visited their gift shop & bakery and picked up the most absolutely delicious, freshest cider donuts over ever had! If that's an indication about breakfast itself... we will absolutely be back to try it! (Super long wait might have been caused by Father's Day). Restaurant: really long wait. I did like the ambiance. It's like the inside of a cabin. Food was good but not amazing. Service was ok but I had to flag down another server to find my server to get the check to leave. I got the Reuben and my mom got a cheeseburger. Reuben was good, but the bread got so soggy so quickly that I ended up just eating the filling. My mom said the cheeseburger was good and ate it all. I think my favorite thing was the french fries. Gift Shop: had lots of choices and great options. There was an older couple from another country trying to buy a cup of coffee and the one staff member that was behind the donut stand was kind of rude. The couple didn't understand how to do it and she just kept pointing and not being helpful. I had to step in because the couple was feeling embarrassed and looked frustrated. There exists, in the town of Queensbury, a place called The Silo. Not for grain, nor for missiles, but for pancakes, omelets, and things fried in ways that would make even the coldest heart consider love again. It is, at first glance, a cousin of the ubiquitous Cracker Barrel, rustic wood, the scent of maple, tchotchkes nailed to walls with a sense of purpose rather than irony. But make no mistake: The Silo is what Cracker Barrel would be if it aspired to art instead of commerce. The service was not fast. Then again, neither is aging, and both leave you wiser if you wait long enough. Our waitress, a saint in sneakers, floated from table to table, bearing plates like gifts from Gods of fry oil and coffee beans, her kindness undiminished by the demands of the hungry and the impatient. And then, the revelation: Apple Cider Doughnut French Toast. A combination of words so implausible, I would have assumed it was a joke had it not arrived in front of me, golden-brown and glistening. It was, and I do not say this lightly, nearly a religious experience. If this dish had been presented at the Last Supper, Judas may well have stayed for seconds. My family of four left The Silo full, happy, and perhaps somehow slightly more American than when we entered. Our cholesterol scores may have suffered, but our taste buds did not. Five stars. The only reason for the three star review is while we were eating, there was a woman that was blatantly staring at us. Not in a bad way, I enjoyed it, but it might be too much salt for someone. The onion ring side is worth the $3 upcharge, they were crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. Conversely, the French fries were not crispy at all and had a weird texture on the inside. Definitely some of the all time worst fries I've ever had. I did not eat them. And I was not raised to leave food on a plate. The Monte Cristo was substantial. It felt healthier than any Monte Cristo's I've had. Amazing food, my Daughter and I had to wait about a half hour, which was a downfall - but we just browsed through the gift shop where you will find one of a kind gifts. They also have speciality jellies, honey and candies. I got the apple cider donuts and they were to die for. For my breakfast I ordered the chicken and waffles which was top tier. Such high hopes and much potential, but our first experience here was surprisingly more miss than hit. Firstly, we were told there was a 10-15 minute wait to be seated, so we wandered through the vast gift shop. They had an impressive range stuff available, from shoes and clothes to Christmas ornaments, Halloween decorations, books, and seemingly everything in between. Then we heard our name called through the speaker so ran downstairs and were promptly seated. The dining area had pleasant charm and warmth, and there seemed to be lots of families. We went with the huevos benedictos and cod sandwich, and the food came out without much delay, although ordering the cod sandwich, believe it or not, created a minor snafu: due undoubtedly to my Australian accent, the server thought I said "club," not cod, sandwich, and as we immediately tried to clarify that we wanted the cod sandwich, the server proceeded to give us a spiel on all the available sides, before realising that she had been talking on top of us and apologising to us. - Huevos benedictos: good English muffins, eggs, and avocados, but it really could have used more pico de gallo (we only got less than a teaspoonful). Plus, we are definitely used you and prefer crispy home fries, whereas the Silo version, whether they're meant to be or not, were not at all crispy and more mellow overall, which is why we only ate less than 1/5 of it. This is kinda painful because I'm usually not one to leave anything on my plate. - Cod sandwich: great-looking pics on Yelp ultimately got us to pick this off the big menu, and I certainly enjoyed this more than the benedictos. What didn't work was the addition of bacon and the fries. In fact, the bacon was so overpowering that we both picked bacon off the sandwich, which vastly enhanced the enjoyment because we were able to appreciate the fish and the tartar sauce. In my humble opinion the bacon had no place on this fish sandwich. I also liked their slaw. The fries, like the home fries that came with the huevos benedictos, lacked the crispness on the outside that make great fries great, and unfortunately we are less than half of them, if that. This seems like a local business, and I have a soft spot and extra love for local businesses. So I hope the Solo team will keep improving and stay open for many more years, because who knows, we might wanna stop by one day for their cider donuts! read more

I like to use yelp for recommendations and the Silo restaurant was excellent. Food was very good. We had the silo omelette and the chorizo omelette ( forgetting the exact name). The portions were huge. We could have shared just one omelette. So we enjoyed it for breakfast the next day. Amy our server was super cool and such a fun environment with unique history. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and the special was incredible. It was a lot of flavors at one, but everything was well balanced and the eggs were perfectly poached. Where to start... it's the cutest country store full of unique and fun items jewelry, pottery, food items like fudge and chocolates and best of all - Apple cider donuts made daily. They are yummy and worth a stop just to pick up a dozen or two! We stopped for breakfast. My husband had the veggie omelet and it was enough food to feed a family of four! While driving back from Montreal the other day, we started getting hungry and a quick Yelp review showed that Silo was a highly rated place right off the interstate. It was just after 1:30 and we noted they closed at 2:30, so we made it there in time. Tracy was our server and she was great. We were seated right away and reviewed the expansive menu. I saw portions coming out and knew things were big, so I just ordered an appetizer and a couple of sides...I ate them so quickly I forgot to take pictures of them! Our friends had to have some cider donuts and they were delicious. For my lunch, I had the Nashville chicken bites, which was just a giant chicken breast cut into pieces. I also got tater tots and onion rings for the whole table to share (there were four of us) but their meals were so huge, it felt like we didn't even put a dent in the tots, even though were were all eating them. We did better on the delicious onion rings but it was just so much food and Tracy seemed disappointed in us that we didn't take the rest to go (I was disappointed too but didn't think they'd travel well in the car for a few more hours). Prices were reasonable compared to what we are used to in NYC. There's also a general store that has crafts, jams, jellies, candies and of course maple syrup. I recently stopped on a Monday morning and was surprised that there was a wait, which there usually is, but it's always worth it. Plus, you can walk around their large gift shop and browse while you wait.
