This was a five star restaurant at one time. My family used to love the food, the service and the decor. Today we had the worst meal we've ever had there, with slow and disinterested service to accompany the undercooked and flavorless rice. The food took over an hour to get to the table after we watched multiple Doordash types come in and get their giant bags of food and leave. It seems like the online takeout orders now get the attention that sitdown customers used to get. It's sad to see such a once-reliable and excellent place to downhill like this. Perhaps it was just one bad day for the staff, or a new cook in the kitchen, but the wait time and the quality of the food were so wretched that I won't be back to find out. If you're looking for good Mexican food with excellent service, you're better off at El Gallo in Hudson Falls. Or, based on today's experience, even Taco Bell is a better choice. read more

I randomly searched Yelp for a Mexican restaurant, and this showed up. I was initially skeptical, but now that I went there, it was amazing. I was a part of a party of 8, by the way. The restaurant's interior was great, despite being small, and despite having a lot going on, was still great. A Yelp search led us to this small Mexican restaurant while exploring the area on a rainy day. We are so happy we stopped for lunch. The complimentary chips and salsa were devoured quicklyOne of the best salsas we had ever had. The basket and bowl replenished without being requsted was appreciated. We each chose a combination plate to sample the many dishes offered. The taco, chimichanga and burrito were filed with a tender shredded beef or ground beef. Jut the right sized portions. Don't judge a book by its cover! The building is quaint, but the food has gargantuan flavor! Their salsa with the chips may be the best mix of sweet and heat and fresh that I have ever had. The steak fajita was delicious and a large NY strip. It came out sizzling with peppers and onions. I added chorizo as well, because I just love Mexican chorizo. The pinto beans were possibly the best I have ever had in a Mexican restaurant (a little salty, if you don't like salt). I was in the mood for tacos and saw there was over 4 stars and 200 plus reviews here; needless to say I absolutely agree! I got the order to go and waited in the small but comfortable and nicely decorated seating area. The waitstaff were attentive and each dish that was brought out looked tasty. My order was ready in less than 15 minutes and I asked Christian more about the restaurant and that they're in their tenth year at this hidden gem. When I got to my place and remove the aluminum pan filled with large shell chicken tacos, arroz rojo (red rice) and black beans that looked really good. All of it was certainly just as tasty as it was visually appealing! The shredded chicken in the taco was moist and plentiful and the side of pico de gallo went perfect with it for me. For me there was an ample amount of cheese for a taco. Also included were mild salsa and chips that were not greasy or salty with a nice crunch as if they were baked. Great local place with awesome authentic Mexican food! This place is very small, you would not look at it from the outside and think much but the steady flow of people will reassure you that you've chosen the right spot for a delicious meal. Clearly it's run by a family that takes pride in their culture and recipes. They're all very sweet and were great with our larger party of 11 that included a slew of kiddos. We had the chicken and beef enchiladas, my kids got chimichanga, tacos and a tamale. Do not leave without an order of churros, those were heavenly homemade. Fabulous little Mexican Restaurant in the north country of Upstate NY! It's small. The tables and chairs are small and simple. The staff are very friendly, and the food is fantastic! My wife had the beef burrito plate, and I had the ground beef enchiladas plate. Everything was served fresh and hot. I grew up in San Antonio, TX, where I have always believed that the finest Mexican food outside of Mexico is made. The food here is on par with the very best from San Antonio, and even Mexico! We eat Mexican. While dating we went on a mission trip to the mountains of Toluca Mexico. Our wedding rehearsal was at a hole in the wall place in Lubbock Texas. We tried a place in NYC so authentic that when we ordered queso for our chips they looked at us funny and brought us grated cheese. We've tried several places in and around Albany so when I say this is the best Mexican we've had I say it with some experience. I asked for queso and she told me she could bring me some melted cheese with chorizo that is stringy. I said "sure" and in a few minutes she was back with the amazing stuff pictured. Instantly I was excited for the rest of the meal. I ordered chicken chimichanga (beef was on the menu). I ordered chicken quesadilla appetizer (Mexican sausage was on the menu). My wife ordered beef tostada. She orders things as they come. Now my chimichanga was more like a thick taquito, but it was so flavorful and good that I didn't even care. The side rice was fluffy and flavorful with diced peppers and vegetables in it. The side beans were soft but not completely runny like many places. The beef tostada was not ground beef. It was tender flavorful beef (like stewed beef). The online menu showed avocado slices on the tostada so my wife was going to take them off and give to me but it showed up more like guacamole (which she hates) but it was so good together that she enjoyed it. You'll have to take my word that it is an impressive feat to serve my wife avocado that she will eat. The quesadilla appetizers were more like cheese and stewed chicken soft tacos. So. Much. Cheese. They didn't skimp on the amount or flavor. The fried ice cream was $3.00 and delicious. My wife was so full that she wasn't going to try it, and then ended up eating 5 or so bites. The prices were more than reasonable, music was authentic and our server was available but not hovering. She was genuinely happy when I told her how great the food was. Total bill was $34 and I didn't think twice about simply giving her a $20 tip. It was more than food, it was an experience. We have 2 boxes of left overs. Check. Them. Out. read more

Salty, oily, too much sauce, heavy food. Fried plantains were cold and hard- not edible. The sangria was sludgy. Not sure what was happening there. With all that going on, the side fiesta salad was just lettuce and tomatoes with no dressing at all. And the waitress was unable to take drink orders unless you could point to it on the menu so the rest of the party just stuck with waters. I had a perfect lunch here today of chips and salsa and bean and cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, plus lemonade. chips were flavorful and tasted homemade, salsa was on the chunky-side, scoopable, and homemade-tasting, as opposed to some versions that are rather thin. Enchiladas were a custom-made vegetarian version simply filled with firm, not canned, beans and cheese and smothered in a tangy, well-seasoned (not spicy) tomato sauce that tasted perfectly balanced. Beans and rice were flavorful, fresh and scratch-made. I appreciate all of these details! Decor here is a wonderful, cheerful surprise. The menu contains varied and authentic food. I'm no expert but I did see many seemingly-uncommon items. Another thing I liked was that portions were reasonable, not gluttonous, and so was the price. So our favorite local Mexican haunt was closed recently; we decided to try take out from La Cosina Mexicana. This review is based on this take-out experience only. I called in the order for pick-up and the girl answering the phone was very nice. We had 3 different kinds of burritos and 3 tacos. Burritos were beef, chicken and veggie. I had the veggie. When I opened the take out container (not styrofoam...thank you!), I was surprised to see 3 tortillas all next to each other smothered in a ton of cheese. Not what I expected...my first impression was utter disappointment. I wanted a: pick it up with both hands monstrosity burrito with the veggies, guac, rice and beans all smashed into a portable package. But this was a knife and fork situation. OK. Whatever. 'Twas hungry! I'll try something different.... Flavors were actually really good. I had to peel and push away a lot of the cheese on top, but if you like a ton of (melted) cheese, then these are the burritos for you. The side of refried beans and rice were very flavorful as well...and pretty authentic tasting. None of that "americanized-wanna-be Mexican" spice in the dish. I tasted one of the tacos and it was just OK..the tortilla was an odd texture (ordered soft tacos...the shell was semi-hard as if it had been sitting out for a while). The total cost was just under $50...which seemed a bit expensive (especially compared to our regular joint).
