We took our family of 5 here after the 250th celebration in DC for brunch the next day. Kids loved it, parents too! I had a wonderful lunch at Silver Diner. It was a beautiful day so I opted to sit outside for my meal. Silver Diner has a spacious patio, not much of a view as it looks out towards the surrounding streets. However sitting outside was still very peaceful and serene. I ordered a Triple Peach Soda to start, I did not love this drink as the peach puree was very sweet and a little artificial tasting. For my meal I ordered a patty melt with a turkey patty substitution instead of a beef patty. That patty melt was amazing! It is hard to find places that have turkey burger options for non-beef eaters and Silver Diner makes a mean turkey burger. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, not the grey lifeless turkey patty that you might receive elsewhere. I ended my meal with my favorite Silver Diner cocktail, the Tropical Sidecar. It's such a smooth drink and you can still taste the liquor without the liquor overpowering the drink. Javier was my server and he provided 10/10 service. Any request I had was fulfilled quickly and he made sure to check on me frequently, while also giving me space to enjoy my meal. Free parking (words everyone loves to hear) in the garage connected to the building that houses the restaurant. Parking in the blue section of the garage will put you close to the elevator that will take you right outside Silver Diner. read more

The waiter spent more time talking to other waitresses than serving us. I have to call him multiple times to refill, with one time he forgot to bring it back until reminded. The drinks, the food, and the service at this restaurant was really surprisingly great. It has that step back into history vibe with a hint of modern. Great music played in the background, so many different people from different walks of life. Great for large group small groups and singles. They even have a bar area like they had an old diners. But don't get it twisted, this place is definitely far from an old diner. Definitely an upgraded version. food and drinks were delicious across the board. Food here is generally good. Bonus is the staff are friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Also, there's free parking just below the restaurant. Setting is nice enough to join family and friends. Silver Diner remains a reliable destination for breakfast, lunch, or dinner fare. I would recommend the burrata appetizer, ancient grain bowl, salmon, among other things. They also have a seasonal menu that has good options--the current chipotle salmon and shrimp is a good choice, though I note some disappointment that the crab cakes and seafood pasta are no longer being offered. As I mentioned in my previous review, though the staff are friendly, quality of service can be a little variable, and accordingly, it is a little off putting that the tip default is 25% at the point of sale. However, there are a variety of menu options and so it is nonetheless a good place for a casual meal. read more

Silver Diner is a must for walking the harbor as the menu here is amazingly diverse. Traditional diner foods are only the beginning as it braces off to Middle Eastern Burrata Shakshuka to a decadent Benedict Hamburger, a massive Chicken Picacca and a ton of great cocktails to pair with this food . Our server Suymog was incredible and so very kind. He never stopped helping us despite the very busy crowds. He was prompt and knew the menu in and out. They have the best happy hour menu in Alexandria based on the variety of items to choose from, the quality of the food, and the price of drinks - hands down! There is a big emphasis on quality and healthy ingredients, so that's a plus. Also, the staff are friendly and personable which just creates an overall pleasant experience. If you go, don't leave without trying one of their milkshakes. There are tons of flavors to choose from, and you honestly can't go wrong with any of them, but the classic strawberry shake is a personal favorite. This location has a more modern aesthetic and is gigantic compared to some of the locations that have that classic diner build, but it still retains its original charm and appeal. Perhaps the fanciest Silver Diner I have ever been to with chandeliers and red padded booths, this well know chain did not disappoint. Located in a development of two office building and a parking deck, this have a different vibe that free standing "silver diner" buildings. I was with a party of four for dinner and we were well taken care of. Food quality was very good to excellent, what I would expect. Service was very attentive, so no issues there. I would say if you the neighborhood, stop in for that comfort food at a pretty fair price. read more

A very modern and clean design of the restaurant! Plenty of seating inside and there's a free retail garage that's easy to access as well. We were sat right away (we were here around 9:15 on a Saturday morning). Sylvia was super friendly and attentive. I ordered a coffee and the Watermelon Cucumber Spritz Deluxe Mimosa and my husband ordered the BrewChata. Both were really good! For our breakfast, I ordered the Burrata Shakshuka, my husband ordered the Oat Milk Protein Pancakes and we split the Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast. The shakshuka was delicious and loved the Naan that came with it. I don't they personally give you enough Naan so I ordered more which costs additional but it was all delicious. Loved the protein pancakes too. Usually I'm not the biggest fan of protein carbs but these were flavor packed and so good. The French Toast was good as well but I wouldn't called them stuffed French Toast, just some apple pie filling on the top but they were still good. I was really excited to try this diner since I'm trying every diner in the DMV, but unfortunately, this one fell kind of short for me. I ordered the French toast and one of the pieces was completely undercooked. I ended up not eating it because it just wasn't edible. With that being said, the service and the environment were amazing. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and very sweet. The food came out very fast, but I would have been okay with waiting a bit longer If that meant, my food was fully cooked. It's possible to do it well -- see Unconventional Diner. It is also possible to do it poorly -- see today's Silver Diner. The overly ambitious menu is defeated by the entire history of diners AND the failure to execute the nouveau health regime of the executive chef. Here's the little secret that most folks who regularly write reviews on Yelp don't want to admit: sometimes when it comes to our dining options, we're BASIC. There I said it. I mean: * Do I occasionally eat McDonalds? - YES * Have I gotten my morning coffee at a Dunkin Donuts as opposed to a locally operated microroaster? - YES * And do I enjoy visiting my local Silver Diner when I have a craving for consistent and good old diner fare? Absolutely! Silver Diner is a local chain which started way back in 1989 with their first location in Rockville, MD (https://www.silverdiner.com/our-story). Over the next 30 years, the company has grown to 23 locations across three states and the District of Columbia. Silver Diner's "recipe" has been a simple, yet successful one: Quality food at a reasonable price with a healthy side of nostalgia for America's diner culture. Of late, I've been coming to this location off King Street since this newer location has many desirable attributes. While there is limited street parking, there is underground parking with the nearby attached garage...and (for the time being) the parking is FREE!!! There is also a good-sized patio if you choose to dine outdoors, and this area is very thoughtfully designed since it is enclosed so diners don't have to worry about all the smoke and exhaust from the cars driving along busy Rt. 7. This location is also much larger than other Silver Diner locations. High ceilings, a long bar area, and plentiful seating really make this a comfortable space for diners. I dined here recently with my sister's family, since as she puts it, "the place is kid approved by my niece and nephew," so they eat there often. Some of the adults got the "breakfast for dinner" option which was the buttermilk pancakes platter. Pancakes were prepared on a flat top grill to give them a rice slightly crispy exterior, while remaining fluffy inside. Paired with a side of extra crispy bacon and eggs (any way you want them) and it's a hearty filling meal. While I didn't think the Southwest Turkey Sandwich was particularly reminiscent of cuisine from that part of the country, it was still a substantial meal. Piles of smoked turkey were layered with sliced tomatoes, romaine lettuce, pepper jack cheese, guacamole, and "southwest ranch" sauce (which honestly tasted like pesto) within a ciabatta bun. My only suggestion is to pop the sandwich in the oven for a few minutes to heat it up. The classic BLT might be one of the best deal around. For $10, generous amounts of smoky bacon are piled between toasted sourdough bread with lettuce and sliced tomatoes; I usually ask for mayo on the side which the kitchen gladly obliges. Paired with a small ramekin of Cole slaw, and their French fries (which I actually think tastes BETTER than McDonalds) and this is a gut busting meal. I often will just eat 1/2 at the restaurant and the other 1/2 for lunch the next day since the portion sizes are generous. Service was also good and a team of servers did an excellent job of delivering the food within 10-15 minutes of ordering and ensuring that plates got cleared and drinks refilled. Since one of my doctors is located nearby, I will definitely be adding this Silver Diner location to my rotation of places to eat when I'm in the area. read more

I had the Alaskan haddock fish and chips. The chips were fine as was the fish. The breading was over cooked and on the hard side. This place is nice and spacious but it doesn't feel cavernous. I had the Philly Steak omelette and it was quite good. Have eaten here several times and it's actually one of the better brunch/breakfast spots in the area. Haven't had any other meal there so I can rate on them. But breakfast is definitely a to-do. The service is pretty on point at this location and the layout of the facility is always clean and inviting. There is a little room for it to get 5-stars but it's a solid 4 to me.
