TLDR: Ted Montana Ted's Montana Grill is a classic American restaurant that specializes in beef & bison burgers and steaks. Strictly go for the burgers. This was my first time at Ted's Montana and I'd like to start off by giving kudos to John our server. He was very professional and attentive. He even let us try some of the Bison Brisket since my wife and I never had brisket. Needless to say we skipped the Brisket it was too tough and a tad dry after chewing. It seemed to have definitely been reheated or sitting in a warmer for a long period of time so we opted for a burger with the confidence of our server and I'm glad we did. The burger really shined. They have a lot of different variations of burgers but we get it classic since it was our first time. Very juicy and a great mouth feel for the burger. The fried and onion rings were decent but nothing to write home about. I'll certainly come back to experience more burgers and even the bison burgers. The inside had a Western-inspired setting with a lot of wood accents and features pleasant restaurants to be in.

I had a delicious meal at Ted's Montana Grill. I had been craving steak, so we thought this was the place to go. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it came out medium, but other than that, it was everything I hoped it would be. The lemon butter melted off the steak and added incredible extra flavor to the mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans were sautéed with onions and gave it an extra boost of savory flavor. I cleared my plate and left feeling full & happy. Our server was really nice and attentive too. All around good experience at this restaurant! We'll be back in the future!

We enjoyed our dinner here last night and will certainly return. Four stars plus. This was our third and best visit so far. As far as parking goes, if you show up before 5:30pm, you shouldn't have a problem finding parking out front or seating inside. After 5:30pm, you may have to resort to parking in the garage behind the AMC theatre. The ambience is a room filled with thick wood-paneling. Last night Ted's was playing country music emphasizing Texas, though they did toss in a few hits by the Eagles too. Our server was the best ever. She was so nice and accommodating. When we asked for substitutions for the hamburger bun or cheese, her response was "Of course!" She made frequent checks on us well. We were served a complimentary dish of sliced vinegary cucumber. We liked it so much, we asked for and received a second helping. The menu emphasizes burgers (both beef and bison) and steaks. I thought the prices for a burger with fries were reasonable in today's local economy. JP ordered the Green and Hot Burger. This dish came with grilled asparagus, though the current menu says the side is grilled jalapeño. JP remarked that this was the best burger he has ever had in a restaurant. High praise indeed! The asparagus was tender and had a light pleasant smoky flavor. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich, which does not appear on the online menu. It came on a soft ciabatta bun. Admittedly, I ordered this sandwich because I didn't want to get stuck with a burger on a flimsy Brioche bun. Anyways, the meatloaf was topped with Swiss cheese (substituted for pepper-jack cheese) and a flavorful slightly sweet sauce. The sandwich was excellent. I loved the straight-forward fries that had a perfect taste and texture and were only seasoned with salt.

The food was a 10 out of 10. Our server Michael was top-tier. In the atmosphere was which you'll find an arrested ranch style diner. I love this place.

If mahogany walls, juicy bison burgers, and frontier vibes are your thing--this place will make your inner cowboy holler "Yeehaw!" I swing by Ted's regularly for lunch--sometimes with my date, sometimes with coworkers, always with an empty stomach and bison on my mind. The place feels like a saloon-meets-steakhouse with rich wooden decor that makes me want to invest in a denim-on-denim wardrobe. Seriously, if I showed up in a cowboy hat, nobody would blink. You usually don't need a reservation. There's almost always a seat ready, and the open grill with chefs doing their thing adds a nice touch of sizzle as you walk to your table. They start you off with a bowl of house-made pickles--which is both unexpected and delightful. Then I lock in my Arnold Palmer (unofficial house drink in my book) and rotate through the burger menu like I'm doing research for a bison burger thesis. Canyon Creek, Cadillac, Blue Creek, Classic, Green & Hot--you name it, I've devoured it. And yes, always bison. Where else are you gonna find it this fresh and fire-grilled to juicy perfection? And like they say, everything's bigger out West--and that spirit applies here too. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the meals leave you full enough to contemplate a midday nap in the nearest prairie (or parking lot). Don't sleep on the sides either. Whether it's the sweet potato fries, crispy Brussels sprouts, or that heavenly roasted broccoli, they come out swinging. And the bison ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes? That's the kind of meal that makes you want to saddle up and ride into the sunset. Service here is on point--they know when to check in and when to let you vibe. No rush, no pressure, just good eats and Western hospitality. Bottom line: Ted's isn't just a meal--it's a delicious detour into the Wild West. Big flavors, big plates, and big cowboy energy. I'll be back, denim and all.

I forgot the name of this drink. It was a special and really good.

Totally pleasantly surprised! I've driven by this place plenty of times and never thought to stop in. However, a co-worker recommended it and that suggestion turned into a wonderful date night. We started off with the bison nachos. Amazing! The chili was really flavorful with just a hint of spice. Portion size was pretty large. Definitely large enough to be an entree. For my main I got the brisket, which came with 2 sides. I went with buttered carrots and mashed potatoes. Again, really good. The bison was very tender and the brown gravy was very savory. We finished the meal up with a huge shareable portion of strawberry shortcake. All in all I really enjoyed this place. It had a somewhat retro vibe that almost took you back to a simpler time when food was just good and didn't have all the fluff. If you're ever in the area absolutely worth checking out.

I came here since I'm currently pregnant and wanted a good steak. I use to come here a lot for take out and it never disappointed me, this time around I should have just gone to Longhorn instead. We ordered two Delmonico ribeyes with mash and broccoli and they were ordered medium and were so hard. The broccoli was under cooked, the only thing that was good was the mash potato. We spent almost $200 for our dinner and honestly the only good part was the strawberry shortcake due to its portion. The waitress was nice and attentive but the food was a huge disappointment. I definitely will not be returning.

I'd never been to a Ted's Montana Grill before but I have to say that my first experience was quite a pleasant one! I met a friend for happy hour and we sat in a booth across from the bar. We both ordered the Bison Hoffman Burger from the happy hour menu which is only a 3oz burger but was surprisingly filling, especially with the French fries and onion ring it comes with. We also had some cocktails from the happy hour menu as well and everything was fabulous, including our server. I wish I remembered what his name was because he was on point! We ended our meal with 2 amazing desserts, the cheesecake and strawberry shortcake. The happy hour menu is limited, but the items we had were absolutely delicious and were worth the trip!

Bison smashed burger with fries and onion rings.

First time at Ted's with my group. Tried the bison smashed burger for the first time. I would stick with beef burger next time. Service was great. The foods took longer than normal to come out. I tried the bison burger out of curiosity since I never had bison burger before. The burger came with fries but the fries were terrible (1 out of 10). I did not eat the fries since it did not taste right. I would have the burger a 8 out of 10 since I also added bacon so it did taste better. The onion rings were not that great (5 out of 10). Would I be back, likely not. Price is on the high side for lunch.

OMG! Ted's is one of my favorite restaurants. First time to the Alexandria property. It did not disappoint. The food and the service was exceptional! I had the bison short ribs for dinner. The meat fell off the bone. DELICIOUS!! The restaurant is very relaxing. I went when it was not crowded. A great place to chill, unwind, and have a drink. I sat in the bar area for dinner, so, my waiter was the bartender, Nate. A pleasure to talk with and knows the menu. He makes a great Manhattan too! Go to Ted's and have Nate make ya a drink! Have a bite, too! You won't be disappointed in either!

My favorite place to go for a burger in the DMV area. Ted's 1977 America's Cup never fails to satisfy all of my needs and wants. I always come solo and have a seat at the bar. I know I can look forward to sublime bartending from Nate. Overall, the staff is pleasant and welcoming! Definitely my go-to before watching a movie at the theater near by :)

Ted's Smashed Burger

Short trip to DC decided to try something new to me and boy was I so happy that I did. @tedsmontanagrill (Alexandria location). Top tier customer service from the time we entered until we left, attentive and super friendly! Our waitress bought us their complimentary cukes brined but still crunchy, salty more than tangy but paired well with our entree's. We ordered the bison nachos (3.9/5 chili was tasty and chips cut thin and very fresh as well as the toppings). "Ted's Smashed Burger" with fries was rated high by my foodie date and the "Cheese" (cooked perfectly, seasoned well and the beef was not gritty or fatty, very tender, I added swiss on a brioche bun 4.8/5) but my favorite were their salt and pepper onion rings OMG sooooo good y'all like the best I've had ever. I consider myself an O-ring snob so the onions were perfect and huge cut not stringy, when I bit into them cooked perfectly, the coating didn't fall off the onion, seasoned and the horseradish dipping sauce perfectly paired: 10/5 (get the onion rings y'all (they also offer an half/half rings and fries). Yes go, specifically this location.

Our table plus our one friend who did not get food till we left...

Hands down probably the best restaurant I have eaten at so far this year…read more Amazing food, friendly service, and a nice ambiance. The place can get quite busy so I would highly recommend making a reservation first. We ordered some cocktails which all tasted amazing, I enjoyed the espresso martini the most. Our table ordered the baked oysters and tuna tartare to start. The oysters were seriously so fricking good, I wanted to order another round! The tuna tarate was refreshing and tasted really good as well. I highly recommend ordering the fish curry or their scallop entree. I also got to have a bite of the chicken & waffles and the steak pasta but I would skip on those. Super excited to come back!!

My wife and I arrived around 1:20 p.m. on a Thursday. The lunch crowd was still going strong, which only reinforced that we had picked a popular spot. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill almost immediately. When we walked in, there was no hostess to be found. After waiting about four minutes, she finally appeared and offered us a choice between a small table in the corner or one by the bar. Given how busy the restaurant was, we took the table by the bar. About seven minutes later, someone finally came by to offer us water and explained that our server was busy, but she would help us in the meantime. No problem. We ordered the Avo Goddess Salad and asked that it be split so we could share it. A few minutes later, our server arrived, introduced herself, and we let her know we had already ordered the salad and were ready to place our lunch orders. She was very helpful in guiding my wife toward the Old Bay Shrimp Burger. I was excited to order the Shrimp and Grits until I learned it contained Andouille sausage and, according to our server, couldn't be prepared without it. Since the restaurant highlights that everything is made from scratch, that surprised me. I ended up ordering the Ahi Tuna Salad instead. So far, so good. Then came the frustration. We spent the next 20 minutes slowly picking at our salad, growing increasingly hungry and confused. You know something is wrong when guests who were seated after you begin receiving their meals before you. Finally, at 2:10 p.m., our food arrived: my Ahi Tuna Salad and a Pulled Lamb Sandwich for my wife. Except my wife had ordered the Shrimp Burger. When we pointed out the mistake to what was now our third server, she quickly assured us it would be corrected. A few minutes later, our original server returned and took full responsibility. She explained that the lamb and shrimp items are next to each other in the POS system and she accidentally selected the wrong item. She assured us the Shrimp Burger would be out in two minutes and suggested we enjoy the fries that came with the lamb sandwich while we waited. Unfortunately, another ten minutes passed before the burger finally arrived. Here's where things became truly disappointing: the top bun was still cold--almost frozen. My wife ended up removing it entirely and eating the sandwich with just the bottom bun. At best, the Shrimp Burger was decent, but certainly not worth the wait and frustration. As for my Ahi Tuna Salad, it felt like something I could easily make at home, especially considering the $25 price tag. I'm also not entirely convinced the tuna was particularly fresh. I can't bring myself to give Matt and Tony's one star because the atmosphere is genuinely cool and inviting. So I settled on two stars--mostly for how I felt before the experience unraveled. And listen, I get it. Mistakes happen. We're all human. But as someone who eats out frequently, here's one piece of advice: when a restaurant makes a significant mistake with a customer's order, consider taking that item off the bill. Sometimes that gesture is the only reason a guest decides to come back.

My cousin was running errands in the area, so we made a reservation for a weekday afternoon. It was very easy to reserve online the day before. We were seated upstairs to the right in a very sunny room with skylights, wooden rafters, and a thin carpet. Unfortunately, the carpet isn't thick enough to muffle sound, so it was very noisy. Our server, Nadir, seemed distracted, using his phone in a corner of the dining room, and wasn't too attentive. Another female server helped him manage his tables and took my drink order. My cousin ordered the veggie quiche and I opted for the French dip. Nadir asked if I wanted cheese and I assumed it came with cheese, so I said sure. When he then listed four different cheeses, I chose Swiss. When it arrived, it was clearly not Swiss. When I pointed it out to Nadir, who was nowhere to be found until we were ready for our bill, he said, "At least it is all natural cheddar!" Hmm... Then I saw that it was $4 for cheese. Our lunch total was $60 (no alcohol). My cousin said she will not be returning due to the low quality of food and service. I'll likely give it another try, but my expectations will be much lower next time, and I'll probably just order takeout instead.

We were immediately greeted when we walked in and our server/bartender was extremely welcoming and friendly! We chatted for a bit and really loved the quality of service he provided. The appetizers we got Brussel sprouts (very bitter, a little soggy, overall a bit disappointing) and the ribbon fries (they were basically chips, but not seasoned or salted) topped with a mayo-based sauce that was pretty good but also pretty disappointing. Makes sense, a little more room out there anyway. We haven't been on this side of the place since it was a Sugar Shack so it was nice to see the new concept. The seats are mostly at the bar was maybe 3-4 tables around the rest of the restaurant. We got a small taster when we sat down which was really good but I do not remember what it was. The zero proof menu we were there consisted of a Blueberry, Fauxgroni, and a Honey cocktail. We got the Blueberry and Fauxgroni to start. Both were made in front of us and had very cool looking details, especially the Fauxgroni's ice cube. The Blueberry was delicious and the honey foam on top was great with it. We figured since we were there we should also grab dinner which was fully available too. Not a huge menu but had snacks and sandos with a Japanese influence. We started with the Oysters Trio and Tater Tots. The oysters came in these ceramic oysters which was pretty cool and they had an amazing flavor to them. Little sweet, little sour. The tater tots were also great because they're tater tots but the sauce really changed the flavors for us. We also got two sandos, the Hot Maple and the Miso Honey. The sandwich's were a good size. So much flavor packed in each bite. The Hot Maple had a ton of bacon jam and combined with the red onion it was a salty, sweet, sour, crunchy rich sandwich. The runny egg on top was a nice touch. The Miso Honey had a strong truffle flavor but the honey sweetness came through nicely. Also very crunchy. Lastly we got two more drinks off their regular menu, the Coffee Bean and the Hibiscus. The flavors in the Coffee Bean worked so well together. I would say it was one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. The Hibiscus was pretty solid too but I only had a few sips. To end, as a part of our experience, we got these complimentary yuzu lime donuts. I guess as a call back to Sugar Shack maybe? They weren't bad, a little crispy but the flavor wasn't strong. Definitely a cool experience. I might not pay $20 for the zero proof experience itself but I would come back for their food and cocktails because I would say it was all on point.
