This was my first time at Silver Diner. I love all the vegan options on the menus. I ordered the Brussel Sprout and Lentil dish. I was unsure about brussel sprouts with red sauce but it was actually very tasty. It's LOADED with lentil. I would have actually preferred more sprouts than lentil but it was tasty either way. I also ordered a chocolate vegan "milk" shake that's was DELICIOUS. We also got the quinoa coconut pancakes which were AMAZING! There's blueberry and shreds of coconut in the pancake with sliced banana on top. Highly recommend. The salmon and eggs entree was also really tasty Our waiter was very knowledgeable and all of his suggestions were on point. My only CON was the cleanliness of the place. The bathrooms are gross which made me wonder if their kitchen is kept in better condition. The floor under our table was unswept and pretty gross as well. If you are in the area you have to stop into Silver Diner. We had a school group with 17 people and from the time we were seated until the moment we left, our server Agent was outstanding. He was personable, spoke to the kids about sites they'd seen on their visit, and impressed kids and adults alike when he memorized all 17 drink orders. The food came out quickly, portions were good-sized and the best part was that it was all delicious. They had lots of options for people with allergies/dietary restrictions, which is great when you're traveling with a big group. The highlight though was Agent, with his smile, welcoming personality, and stellar service. It was the perfect way to end the day. read more

That's the reason why I gave four stars otherwise the food was excellent didn't have to wait too long for the food. We've been coming here for 10 years and have been big fans until a recent change in franchise ownership - all of our favorite servers are now gone and service is dreadful. The food has also taken quite a hit - it's prepared in a rushed fashion (that doesn't mean it gets to the table faster) - we just can't match the experience tot the prices anymore. First off this was hands down one of the worst experiences ever. Me and my sister came in for lunch a little after 12. We walk to the counter and the lady asked us if we were picking up an order or trying to place one. I then responded and asked if we could eat in. She told us a table needed to be cleaned before letting us sit down (no problem)mind you there was only 2 tables when we got there. We waited 25 minutes before being seated to the point we already knew what we wanted before even being seated because we looked over a menu. We finally were seated and the waitress comes over to us (don't know her name), asks what we want to drink, my sister got a "mimosa" and I got a coke. She didn't hear me when I said can I get a coke so she says "what did you say" RUDE. She takes our order and doesn't return for 15 minutes with our drinks!! At this point the other two tables have left and it was just us, so this was unacceptable. She brings back a watery mimosa with lettuce floating in it, and a coke with hardly no ice. She then tells us that my sister can't get the lunch special because she couldn't find it in the system. Wtf!! So before she left I asked for a cup of ice, she returns with a tiny glass of ice and slams it on the table and walks away. Our appetizer comes out fries were good but had to flag our waitress down AGAIN. No plates, no napkins, no ranch, and my sister needed a water because the mimosa was horrendous. She finally brings it all over after almost eating our entire appetizer. Mind you she never removed our dirty dishes from our appetizer before or after she brought over our food. I asked for a burger with ketchup, fried onions, and extra cheese ONLY. Received a burger over cooked with barely any cheese, no ketchup, and lettuce and tomato added which I didn't ask for. I told her before she even walked away and she took my plate out of my hands and complained about me to the cook in which I heard smh. She brings a CUP of ketchup back and said "we can't put ketchup on your burger because it's just not something we do" Are you kidding me???? I bite into my burger there is so many fried onions that it was hard to even eat without getting a glob of it in my mouth. Had to flag her down again for some ranch, In which she said "let me clean off my table first and then I will" excuse me??! We finally finished our meal as we sat for another 20 minutes with no re fills and waiting for a check but she was too busy talking to the lady at the front and laughing she didn't even come check on us. So I got up and walked to the front to find someone to get my check and she had a smirk on her face and was just so rude. Please tell this girl she better get it together because she's gonna piss the wrong one off of these days. I've never in my life had a bad experience like this. We are 2 1/2 hours away and will make sure no one eats here with this kind of work place. Not once did she ask was our food good, if we needed anything else, or even a high and bye. Nice service, ample parking (lots of overflow parking shared by the mall), awesome food, and cool retro atmosphere! Seriously, what more could you ask for from a diner? I came with a friend on a Tuesday evening and we were seated very quickly. Our waitress was so cheerful and polite! I was craving breakfast food so I ordered a waffle with sunnyside up eggs and home fries. SO YUMMY! The waffle was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside and was topped with a generous amount of whipped butter. The home fries were roasted wonderfully and you can't go wrong with the sunnyside up eggs! My friend and I also got a classic vanilla milkshake to share! Our waitress asked us if we wanted to split the shake. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we each got a cup with a good amount of milkshake, whipped cream, and a cherry on top! This review is in reference to calling ahead for a pick up order. When calling and telling the person answering that you would like to pick up in order you will immediately be put on hold and your call forgotten about. This has happened to me consecutively for at least 3 orders. Now I don't know if this is because the waiter/waitress assumes that there is no tip involved in pick up orders or if the customer service in the Greenbelt location as a whole is poor; but what i do know is that i NEVER Have this issue with the Rockville location and I'm excellent tipper regard less of services rendered. read more

I'm a huge fan of diners and Silver Diner is a great place for a fun and casual meal. It really has everything I love about diners. The food is good. I had the mushroom and Swiss burger and it was cooked one way...perfectly. I had the jazzed up fries and they were just ok. But the burgers are made with care. I also had a campfire s'mores shake and it was also delicious. I highly recommend a burger and shake. I love the friendly throwback atmosphere. Jukebox at the table, friendly service, good food. Stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night. Not too busy, was seated right away. Server was new but very friendly. Got our drinks and took our app order, then came back for the entree order. For being new she did a good job ( forgot to bring the salad out before the meal). Overall the food was just okay. Wow. This diner has got to have one of the hardest working teams around. If you want to have your mind blown-- sit at the counter of this restaurant. There are teams of people checking details on each order and making sure they're correct. The food is amazing, and as someone who has to eat around some allergies, I can always find something. Have a vegan or gluten free person to accommodate? Easy. The server we had was lovely and answered some crazy questions around us with the patience of a saint. I seriously hope management pays employees here enough to keep them around because we were floored by the high quality of service from the person who sat us, to the server we had, to the cooks and the runners/quality control folks we could hear. I really wavered about whether to give this place one star or two, but since I've been moving apartments and don't feel super generous, I'm sticking with one for now. We stopped by here last night after a frantic Target run. We were seated quickly and the waitress didn't look at me funny when I requested a children's menu to color on. I viewed this as a good start. I had a bowl of their chowder and it was decent. However, when my mom's salad came out there was a hair in it. This alone was bad enough, but the waitress then did not come back to our table once to check how we were doing, so the problem could not be remedied. When we finally succeeded in flagging her down, we were all done with our meals (my mom ended up simply eating half of my aunt's burger). While we were comped for the salad, nothing else was done or offered, not even to make my mom another salad (which we didn't want as we were done eating, but still). Our waitress was singularly bad. The place was basically empty but she did not manage to check on us even though we tried to get our attention and offered no soda refills. IF she had been more attentive the situation could have been salvaged in a number of ways, but given everything I am going with one star. read more

This would have been a 3 1/2 Star review, but the overall experience brought it down to a solid 2 Stars. First let me say, the hostesses were extremely friendly and polite. I could not have asked for a better greeting for myself. Unfortunately, for some odd reason, they could not communicate with the little six year old that was in my party. Its not really that hard. Step One: Say hello; Step Two: Hand the little girl a car with crayons; Step Three: Smile. I'm pretty sure they flubbed the Step One. The restaurant was clean and orderly. With all of the people there, the noise level was very reasonable. Also the wait was pretty much non-existed. All in all, we got right to our table without any issues. Coffee, tea, and orange juice ordered from the nice waiter and all was going smoothly. Then the drinks arrived. Note: When serving hot tea, please remember to bring a tea bag. Otherwise, you just brought hot water. Then, when a tea bag is requested, please come back promptly. When you do come back, PLEASE bring the right tea. Oh well. We decided not to make too much of a fuss about the wrong tea bag. I mean, hey, at least we had tea, right? I ordered the country scrambler. It was the first time I had ever ordered the country scrambler. Matter of fact, I didn't realize that it came with a white gravy. I'm game. I was there, so I went for the new experience (especially since I ordered it). I am not sure that the gravy added to the richness of the flavor. Over all, the dish was good and the gravy was at least interesting. But for some reason, approximately half way through, my stomach told me to stop eating. And stop I did, right away. Turns out that I should have stopped before I began. The violent up heaving of my stomach started off the side of I-95 South. Once I got back to my residence, I was laid low for 15 hours straight. It took me a week to recover. NOT GOING BACK. That being said, I was the only one that got sick. I called the restaurant and the manager was very kind and attentive. I got a return call from a guy that was trying to track down the cause of my illness. Also a nice guy. All in all, this is not a bad place, it just has several things to polish up. This is me and my hubby's spot for 2 reasons. (1) The not your run of the mill breakfast food. It beats Denny's, Bob Evans, and IHOP for breakfast any day any time. It has more creative and "gourmet" choices than your average still open at 1 am breakfast spot. (2) The slightly better than a real diner old American diner vibe. I love the music thats always playing in the background. I love the videos they have while you're waiting. I'm a fan of this place. The food and service are consistently good. Not amazing. But definitely not disappointing. I saw another reviewer describe it as a "solid" experience. I have to agree there. I've had plenty of the things here from scramblers, to omelets, to the fish breakfasts, to milkshakes and apple pie. And everything is pretty "solid". And I love the prices. read more

This was a real disappointment. The diner looks great from the outside, and their "FRESH AND LOCAL!!!" sign on the door made me think I could get some good breakfast that would be better than going to Panera or McDonald's. Service was VERY slow, but I was wiling to overlook that if the food had been good. It wasn't. First, we tried to order several items off the "fresh" breakfast menu and none of them were available. We ended getting a breakfast skillet that tasted like it was out of a bag, and "basil salmon" that tasted like it was frozen AND overcooked. And after all that? We paid twice what we'd have paid if we'd just gone to Atlanta Bread right down the street. Three strikes, and you're OUT. read more

The people are what often make a great restaurant. Unfortunately the GreenbeltSilver diner has had very poor help since it open. I have tried it several dozens times over the years and the service does not get any better. Servers never ask if you want your drink refill. Food comes out painfully slow. Which is a shame because I like the food the Silver Diner offers and I live nearby in College Park. But since I do enjoy their food I travel once a week to their main corporate location in Rockville Maryland. And breakfast at this location is always five star! read more

I was surprisingly impressed with this place. We visited around 11:30pm; the place is open until 3am on Saturday nights (well, you know, technically Sunday morning). We were greeted quickly, the menu has a wide range of healthy selections, our waiter Major was excellent, and the food was great. Big fan of the vanilla malt. There are SEVERAL healthy selections on the menu -- organic, vegan, gluten-free -- and if this is your type of thing it's a great place to go. I had the bacon bleu burger and it wasn't as healthy as those options but it was delicious. One thing that impressed me was that when other customers came to the door, it was apparent that ANY employee in the store was able to seat the customers. This is very important -- I really dislike restaurants where all the employees are clueless except for a dedicated "host" who does all the seating. In a restaurant with well-trained employees, anyone can seat a customer. And this is one of those restaurants. I'm not local to the area so I won't visit this place often, but I would certainly visit here frequently if I lived nearby. read more

Attack of the Giant Portions! This is good place to take a casual date who likes to eat. They have a widely varied menu, including a few creative ideas. I"m still exploring the choices. No matter what you order, it's too much food. The service and food are both quick. The decor theme is a nice restaurant, doing an impression of a diner. It's a pretty good impression, but it's too clean and shiny to be a real diner. Management seems to spend a lot of time analyzing most aspects of the business to improve the customer experience. (See? Not a real diner.) Sometimes amazing dishes disappear off of the menu: San Diego Eggs Benedict might still be available if you bribe the waiter and the cook. But something else creative and new has taken it's place on the varied menu. Dishes that don't sell a lot get dropped. Soup selection is limited to Mom's Chicken Noodle and Clam Chowder. Both are okay but not spectacular. Great place for milkshakes. Difficult to admit: I enjoy coming here because the waitstaff and kitchen staff are really good-looking. Not flirty. Just attractive. Get a Silver Diner card and get occasional discounts and birthday desserts. Fairly good parking. If the lot in front of the diner is full, be prepared to wait in line a long time. read more

Silver Diner offers a variety of healthy, delicious food and not to mention portion wise, they are pretty generous. The reason I give this particular restaurant 3 stars because of the service. Needless to say, the service would start out great and it dwindles down to not so great. The first time we ordered the Gold Peak raspberry flavor sweet tea, it tasted AMAZING but the 2nd go round, it tasted like brown piss. My family and I just volunteered at the Lupus Walk in DC and we wanted to get something good to eat. I haven't had Silver Diner in years so I decided to come here. Our server who's name started with an "L" was horrible. My son asked her what breakfast meat they had and all she could say was chicken sausage and just stood there. Every question I asked her, she was very short with all of her responses. It was like she was afraid of people or she just didn't want to be there. It also took forever for us to be served. I don't know who's responsibility it is bring out the food but they must of went on a 20 minute break. I ordered the meatloaf and it was cold and my husbands scrambled eggs were hardened on the top because it was obviously just under a heat lamp. He also ordered a side of grits for $2 and he couldn't eat it because it was so watery. I had to get a "to go box" so I could take my food home and heat it up. I knew by our servers attitude, there was no way I was going to say anything to her. The presentation of the food was really nice and the veggies were fresh. I could imagine if our food was given to us right away and warm...and a friendly and knowledgeable server...we would of enjoyed our experience. We won't be going there again. read more

One of the tests of a diner is how good the turkey dinner tastes. On that count, the Silver Diner passes with an A+ grade. The turkey dinner is outstanding. Large, flavorful slices of real turkey - not the turkey loaf you find some places - tops some thick slices of sourdough bread. The mashed potatoes seem to be homemade, and they are also quite tasty. The carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower are also a nice complement to the meal, along with a small, but large enough, bowl of cranberry sauce. Not as good as a homemade Thanksgiving meal, but an excellent meal away from home. This was better than most of the turkey dinners I have had in restaurants. I might need to come back before returning home this week. And they offer desserts, ice cream and pie among the offerings. The service was speedy enough and never left us hanging. I think there is a sister location in the BWI airport, probably with a smaller menu. However, it will be worth a try the next occasion I have some extra time there. This place does look like a traditional diner, down to having small jukeboxes at each table. Thankfully, you can turn them off to avoid having to shout over your meals. read more

First Timer at this Diner. I am from Jersey so I feel like I know a thing or two about Diners being from the Diner Capital!! This is not your average diner. They have organic, farm to table, vegan friendly options!! I was impressed! My waitress was sweet, I asked for soy milk for my coffee and in NJ if I asked for that they would look at me like I had 4 heads but her it was no issue. I ordered the Paradise French toast with chicken Sausage and Homefries with extra onions and peppers. The french toast was coconut crusted serve with berries and agave syrup!! We went here around April of this year. I have been going to silver diners for years. Well, USED to. The service was terrible. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy. Maybe 5 tables filled, IF that. Here is what we ordered: 1 Sprite 1 mocha low fat milkshake 1 loaded fries 2 Carmel french toast this is what we got in the order we got it 1 sprite 1 loaded fries (no chives/green onions) 1 white shake the reeked if peanut butter AND covered in caramel sauce (which the waiter said I was WRONG and told me it WAS a mocha shake) 1 caramel french toast (with no caramel or powdered cinnamon sugar) I waited so long, I started eating off my friend's plate of french toast. Got my order 10 minutes later, cold without the caramel and powdered cinnamon sugar on my dish as well. I sent back the milkshake after me and my friend both had to prove it was wrong. I ordered a cup of BLACK coffee in replace of the milkshake. I waited 20 minutes for the coffee. No, we had to brew a fresh pot, do you still want to wait. Our waiter disappeared. By the time I got my coffee, we were finished eating and pretty ticked off. Despite all the mess ups, I was very kind until the waiter just disappeared. Usually it takes 30 minutes tops at a visit to silver diner. It took us over an hour for everything. We had to speak to the manager 2-3 times, asked for a 110, but never used the coupons. We are just totally turned off by this experience. We haven't eaten there since then and more than likely never will unless we have a good friend or family member who is hired there. read more
