    Crab & Corn Chowder

This is a Classic 50's/60's/70's era Diner located within multiple franchises around the Washington, DC area (also known as DMV: Delaware-Maryland-Virginia)! An experience one should not miss as the menu choices are varied of standard diner dishes with the 24hr flexibility of breakfast served too! Enjoyed a plentiful chicken pot pie classic entree which included a choice of one: soup, chilli, side mixed green or caesar salad. I chose a cup of crab and corn soup while my companion chose the chicken noodle soup. Both were served at a perfect temp and flavorful. Unfortunately, I was completely filled and could not even try nor attempt any of their freshly made and decadent homemade desserts. Don't miss this special eatery and be prepared to enjoy jukebox Jackson 5, Motown, Smokey Robinson as well as early Beatles, Bob Segar, Eagles during your dining therefore leaving you with a full stomach and a smile as you depart.

    Green Goddess Lobster Salad

I ate brunch with a colleague this past Sunday. The restaurant was very busy! The server was fairly attentive, though she disappeared at some point while we waiting for the check. I ordered the summer special, Green Goddess Lobster Salad. It was amazing! It's made with summer greens, local goat cheese, berries, radishes, Green Goddess dressing, pistachios and pomegranates. Unfortunately, I ordered before my colleague arrived, and my food arrived AFTER hers. I waiting a solid 25 minutes for a salad. It seemed to be a fluke, but was disappointing when eager to eat the first meal of the day.

We recently tried Silver Diner at BWI, and only a few weeks ago realized there was one not too far from our house so we decided to go for an early dinner. Our server was lovely, and the food was so good! We shared the crispy Brussels sprouts, I got a peach soda and my boyfriend got a creamsicle, and then for dinner I got the Philly cheese steak and he got the fish and chips. Our favorite was the Brussels sprouts- they were crispy, and had such a good sauce (that wasn't spicy thank goodness). We both loved our sodas. My cheese steak was really good, but in my opinion far too many onions so next time I'd ask for light onion. He really enjoyed the fish and chips as well, but noted the batter for the fish wasn't the traditional light and fluffy batter. It was different- but good! Also to note- the portion sizes are huge! You'll definitely leave stuffed. We look forward to returning in the near future. I'm glad it's nearby!

I frequent here to grab breakfast/brunch since it's very close. This location and diner has the best pancakes and I come back every time to eat them. First time sitting at the bar but had a great experience. I can't wait to go back for more pancakes.

Service and food were both good! The strawberry was FABBBBBBBB.. omg sooooooooo good!!!! Yum yum yum the fries were good too. I think we paid about $220 with tip for 6 adults and 4 kids. Ambience is pretty chill and laidback.

The new mimosa flight is pretty great. This is our go to diner because the food is always fresh, different varieties and love the shakes and desserts! Service is good. Used to be able to play the jukebox on tabletops but not anymore. Overall a great diner

Breakfast selection was good the waitress Bre was fantastic!!!. Some of the food items were overcooked but we left satisfied. Classic diner items.

I am writing this review after being a regular for a few years. I have had many a fun times at Silver Diner. The service there was always great. The ambiance was retro that will take you back in time. You have your own little jukebox right on your table. The booths were comfy. During my many visits to Silver Diner, I sampled many items off of their menu. Some of my favorites include: chicken pot pie, chicken lemon picatta, pickle-brined fried chicken sandwich, and their milkshakes, just to name a few. All in all, I highly recommend this establishment.

Food was ok today. I placed my order online and the pickup time said 12:01. I arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before my pickup time and my food was already sitting waiting for me- which was good. I checked my food out before I left due to having issues here before, everything seemed to be ok. I get home which is less than 5 minutes away, and my food was cold. It wasn't even like warm. It seemed as if it had been sitting h too long and my food lost its quality. Also, I had no plasticware and only 1 syrup but 5 or 6 packs of ketchup. I really keep giving this spot chance after chance but it's always something.

I decided to stop in for breakfast because the sliver diner always has some really great breakfast options. This place also is a wonderful vibe too me not sure why. I decided on the Philly omelet and it was absolutely outstanding. I normally get Huevos rancheros with bison but didn't see it on the menu at this location but overall I have a really great breakfast with A 1 customer service.

Chris was a wonderful server, and very attentive. Had a wonderful visit at this Silver Diner location. The burger was phenomenal! Great service, great food!

She was a ray of sunshine and gave us help in deciding on menu items. We both ordered salads. I ordered the crab and shrimp Louis salad. And, my friend ordered a chicken salad. Our salads were huge, fresh, and delicious. I really liked the fresh veggies and poached shrimp. I also liked the surprise sprinkle of Old Bay on my seafood. I wasn't a fan of the crabmeat. The dressing was delicious too. My friend liked her chicken salad. She did say her chicken was a little dry. But, she loved all of the fresh veggies and ended up taking the leftovers home. I also ordered the Oreo cheesecake which was delicious. I mean come on now, you combine Oreo's and cheesecake, that is a winning combination and the whipped cream was amazing. The restaurant itself was bright, colorful, and full of sea themed decor. The booth was comfortable and you get 3 hours of free parking in the garage. Again, thanks Fatima for your excellent service. We will definitely be back.

I am on their email list (and yes I read most of my emails that are of interest to me) and noted they had an Oktoberfest kick off party happening this week on Thursday evening from 6pm -9pm in their outside patio, so decided to come here. We showed up at 6pm on the dot and the place outside was already packed with people. They were having a live Oktoberfest trio band play, so that was cool! A lot of people were in their Oktoberfest garb/outfits, which was adorable. The challenge was getting a beer and a non alcoholic drink for my mom. They had nothing NA for her and she ended up just having a glass of ice water. I got in the mobbed line and had a Kellerbier, which was brewed especially for Franklin's and Oktoberfest. They had an issue with their handheld payment device so that made the line longer. Beer was fine, but wished I could have gotten my mom a lemonade or iced tea. The other issue was the seating. We opted to sit over in the sandbox/kids area and the picnic tables didnt feel like the best use of space. The trio band was lovely and played some nice tunes including Edelweiss which is one of my favorite songs ever (yes I loved The Sound of Music and have watched this so many times as a kid with my mom) but it would have been nice to see the band more in the center of things, closer to the bar hut. They were serving up German sausages and huge pretzels but the line for beverages and food was so long that I didnt bother to purchase food. This was a great idea and I hope that the next one they do, they can iron out some of the wonky kinks. I'd come back again for an Oktoberfest for sure. My mom and I had a great time!

But we settled on the Deviled Eggs Crispy: topped with fried shrimp and bacon jam. Let me add some of the dishes that others around me ordered looked out of this world as well; Deep-Fried Snapper with African Gravy, Jerk-Braised Short Ribs with Curry Pea Risotto, and Teriyaki Tomahawk with Miso Butter just to name a few, looked amazing. When I looked at what they ordered and I looked at my order I was wondering the same thing for both of us; we are going to need a doggie bag because there is no way we could eat all this food in one sitting. It's bittersweet to see Chef Tobias leave. However, I think I speak for those in the DMV in saying thank you for serving such high-quality food and for being a true beacon in the community. Your restaurant has brought people together, created lasting memories, and made a meaningful impact that will not be forgotten. Though you are relocating to Florida I'm wishing you continued success as you begin this next chapter in another state. The same success the DMV brought you I pray for an even greater level of success in Miami along with the recognition you deserve. In my travels if I'm in Miami, I certainly will look you up. For context my wife is Caribbean so I've had my share of delicious oxtail, their oxtail tasted like they simply didn't even try. Now let's get to my food. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu the Steak and Frites. I'll give it to them the frites were pretty decent, but that's where my compliments end. I ordered my steak medium like a decent human being. The first steak came out and tasted like what I imagine an old used tire taste like, it was well done by the way. The next steak that came out 20 minutes later although closer to medium was surprisingly worse. It's was extremely rubbery with zero flavor. All together I would not recommend. The fact they sell this sad excuse for food is baffling. Sincerely, A concerned customer

I look at what a restaurant is trying to accomplish, the level at which it operates, and whether the food, service, and overall experience meet or exceed those expectations. Rooster & Owl has a Michelin star, so expectations were naturally high. They absolutely delivered. My wife surprised me for my birthday and simply told me she was taking me to dinner. We ended up at Rooster & Owl in DC, and what a wonderful experience. What I loved immediately was how approachable the restaurant felt. Michelin starred, yes, but never stuffy or overly formal. The servers were chill, genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and explained each course beautifully. The ambiance felt special without trying too hard. We splurged and started with the caviar and champagne service. I mean, it was my birthday, and when someone puts 30 grams of Imperial Gold caviar in front of me, I am going to have a difficult time saying no! The caviar was served with brown butter steamed buns and all the fixings. The crème fraîche was incredibly rich, creamy, and flavorful, and those little spiral buns were soft, warm, buttery, and the perfect vessel for the caviar. With champagne, it was one heck of a way to start. Then came the bread. Oh man, the bread! Warm, incredibly soft, slightly sweet and salty, and almost melt in your mouth. The cultured butter with chive oil was amazing. The steak tartare was easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. It came with Thai green papaya, mango, and crisp potato chips. The combination was incredible. Savory, bright, fresh, crunchy. Man, my mouth waters just thinking about it. I will be dreaming about that dish. The hamachi crudo was another beautiful course. The coconut dashi had a bright, citrusy quality that worked really well with the richness of the fish. Clean and nicely balanced. The sablefish tostada immediately spoke to my Mexican roots. Avocado, pico de gallo, hazelnut salsa macha, and a crispy tostada made for a great combination. If I could change one thing, I would have loved more lime on the sablefish, almost approaching the acidity of a ceviche. They provided lime, and adding some myself got it closer to what my palate wanted. Purely personal preference because the dish itself was very good. The pork kebab came with lettuce cups, herbs, and nuoc cham. The pork had a wonderful smoky char and great flavor. Mine was a little dry in places, but the overall concept worked. The crab fritters were AMAZING and another highlight. Crispy, savory, and incredibly satisfying. They somehow reminded me of really good hush puppies I have had in N'awlins, although obviously much more refined. The fromage blanc, yellow tomato relish, and Calabrian hot honey gave you crispy, creamy, sweet, savory, and a little heat all at once. Then came the Cacio E lote. Cavatelli, charred corn, Tajín, and queso fresco. As someone of Mexican heritage, this one made me smile. The best way I can describe it is creamy cavatelli meeting Mexican street corn. Creative, familiar, and very good. We also had the Xi'an spiced lamb rack with fregola, green harissa, and cucumber. The lamb itself was exceptional. Perfectly cooked throughout, incredibly tender, melt in your mouth, and not gamey at all. The cucumber and fregola were also very good individually. My only critique was that I did not completely see the cohesiveness of all the components together. Everything tasted great on its own, but I did not quite get that moment where the whole plate became greater than the individual parts. We finished with the Basque cheesecake and the chocolate and sesame dessert. Tasty, tasty! A great ending to a memorable meal. At $125 per person for the tasting menu, I actually found Rooster & Owl surprisingly accessible for this level of cooking and service. Obviously, adding the caviar and champagne changes the math considerably, but that was our choice and I would absolutely do it again. Most importantly, the entire experience worked. Creative and technically impressive food without pretension, fantastic service, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We left already talking about coming back. A truly wonderful birthday dinner. I cannot recommend Rooster & Owl enough. An easy, solid 5 stars.

It was truly a team effort all around. Multiple staff members cleared plates, wiped the table, refilled water, placed new silverware, brought out and explained the dishes, etc. My water cup never ran low and dirty plates were cleared promptly. My friends have been here before to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. They have raved about it, and now I know why. This was my first time visiting Rooster & Owl and it certainly won't be my last! I came to celebrate a birthday and they made me feel special from the moment I walked up to the restaurant. Staff working the patio greeted me as I entered, and they also wished me well when I exited. When I checked in, the hostess acknowledged that we were celebrating a birthday. I was escorted to the table, and the server also acknowledged the birthday celebration. I really appreciate their attention to detail - all of this was gleaned simply from the reservation. After being seated, server Aiden welcomed us to Rooster & Owl and asked if it was our first time visiting. Since it was, Aiden explained the menu, asked if there were any questions, checked to see if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions, and helped recommend some of his favorites. I came during summer restaurant week - three courses for $65 or four courses for $80 (their normal menu pricing is four courses for $125). I decided to treat myself and spring for the upgrade (marketed as $15 for another course). Shortly after ordering, the meal started with bread service. They served their take on a Hong Kong-style pineapple bun and it was phenomenal. The bread was still warm, soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. It was the perfect temperature to eat a freshly baked bun and still be able to melt their cultured butter with scallion oil. The cultured butter had beautiful presentation - it's served with a gorgeous green swirl, which is ALMOST too beautiful to eat... almost. But you'll be glad you did because it was delicious! The butter was decadently creamy, but rich, a little salty, and had extra freshness from the scallion oil. I love, love, loved it! For my first course, I decided to go with the steak tartare. I've had steak tartare in Paris, and Rooster & Owl's was way better! It ate clean and fresh, and was mixed with mango and kettle chips dusted with scallion powder for texture and flavor. It did have some spice to it (if you can't handle the heat). For my second course (this is the extra course for the $80 menu), I ordered the crab fritters. It came with four pieces, which was much more generous than I anticipated. This course is great for sharing. These fritters were cornmeal based, and they were kind of like crab hush puppies. The fritters were served with a formage blanc (white cheese sauce), which I enjoyed way more than I should have. The fritters were also served with a yellow tomato relish and Calabrian hot honey. With the accompaniments, I found the fritters to be an elevated take on a crab rangoon. This course was one of my favorites of the night! By course three, I was already getting full, but I powered through to enjoy the cacio e-lote, which is cavatelli served with queso fresco and charred corn. The cavatelli were delicate and perfectly al dente. I did find the pasta to be a bit too cheesy, but the game changer is the Tajin seasoning for a little acidic kick. Portion-wise, this was definitely the "entree" course of the meal. (Other options for this course were more protein heavy- the branzino and lamb shank.) For the fourth and final dessert course, of course I had to go for the chocolate offering. I ordered the Chocolate & Sesame. Right before the final course, they brought out a candle and extra cookie dough treat along with a happy birthday card signed by the staff. It was such a kind gesture and definitely made me feel celebrated for my birthday. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the chocolate and sesame combination, but it gives it a nuttiness, and it works! The crispy rice and sesame give the dish some texture, and the yuzu (another unexpected addition) brightened the dish and gave us an extra bite. I would order this dish again and again. When paying the bill, a strawberry jelly candy was brought as a surprise sweet treat to end the night. These little touches and extra gestures of hospitality really leave an impression and provide diners with a memorable experience. Rooster & Owl is one of the more moderately priced Michelin-rated meals and it is worth every penny! I'll be back! Notes: - The restaurant is about a 10-minute walk between the U Street and Columbia Heights metro stations. There is also some street parking available, but they recommend budgeting 15 extra minutes for parking. - There is a 22% service charge applied - They tax on the tip/service charge
