Very good Calamari@ The Union Bar and Grill!
    Spencer H.

I'm glad to see a quality restaurant spring up in the New Carrollton area. The Union Bar and Grill sits below the "Stella" apartment complex which is among several luxury apartment buildings that has adorn the New Carrollton Metro area. The restaurant is really nice. It reminds me of a smaller Burtons or a more refined Busboys and Poets. The food is also really good. I've had the burger, wings, calamari, spinach dip and the shrimp Po Boy. I'm a lamb chop lover so the next time, I'm definitely getting those! Service has always been solid and the three hour free parking with validation is definitely a nice touch! Please support this New Carrollton hidden gem and let's put New Carrollton on the map!!

Was in the mood for a cool lunch after a light dinner last night. Definitely hit the spot !!

If you're in the area ( maybe leaving the New Carrollton subway station ) stop past The Union Bar and Grill for a nice meal ( Lamb chops & the crab cake sandwich are my two favorites so far ) the mood is always chill, bubbly and respectful. Everyone seems to enjoy their own space, while the staff is very attentive when it comes to their customers. Union Bar gets my happy hour vote for sure... be back sooner than later for sure !!

The Cobb salad tasted as good as it looked.

Food: 9 | Service: 7.5 (slow) | Ambiance: 9 Great spot for a casual hangout. The menu feels somewhat elevated, with some nice selections, including lamb chops, which were delicious.

The Union Bar and Grill is always a go-to for me. They have great prices, flavorful food, and it is an overall great venue. This is my third or fourth time coming and I got the shrimp and grits. They definitely updated the recipe and I love the presentation. If you like firmer grits, southern-style, and rich, then you'll like theirs. I find their prices to be very affordable especially their cocktails for this to be in the DMV. I find them to be very reasonably priced. The servers are always friendly. I've never had a bad experience with them. This is also just a nicely decorated restaurant. Parking is a breeze, it's convenient with a garage nearby and they validate.

Met a friend here. Walkable from the Orange/New Carrollton line. They also offer 3 offer free parking, with validation. Easy in/out of the garage which is a 30 second walk to the restuarant There is happy hour deals until 7pm I had the lambchops (4 for $20). Medium well, was good. It was just really cold in there, hehe. It was also 30 degrees outside lol

This place is a hidden gem! Everything we ordered was amazing. We ordered close to closing time without realizing it, but the food still came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The wings were delicious. I tried the sweet and spicy sesame flavor. It leaned more sweet than spicy, but the flavor was so good. The salad was incredibly fresh. I'm usually not a fan of kale salads, but the blend was amazing, and the salmon was perfectly seasoned. The sliders were also a standout! Cooked medium well and absolutely perfect. The sweet potato fries had the perfect amount of crunch. We visited on a Monday night, so it was nice and quiet. Food was also served quickly . The restaurant itself has a really nice atmosphere, and parking is validated, which is a plus. Definitely will be back!

The Union Bar and Grill We decided to try The Union Bar and Grill and were hopeful based on the location and reviews. When we first arrived, we were greeted and told we could sit anywhere, which we appreciated. The atmosphere seemed casual and welcoming at first. After sitting down, however, we waited approximately 15-20 minutes before our waiter came to the table. During that time, no one checked on us or acknowledged the wait. When the waiter finally arrived, they asked what we wanted to order, and we placed our food and drink orders. I ordered the honey chicken, and my husband ordered the Union Burger, requesting it to be cooked medium. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. The honey chicken was not fully cooked, which immediately ruined the meal for me. I've seen photos of this dish in other customer reviews, and what I received looked very different from what is typically presented. My husband's Union Burger also did not come out as ordered. It was cooked medium-rare instead of medium, very plain, and the burger was soaked in bacon grease, which made it unpleasant to eat. The quality and preparation did not match what we were expecting from a restaurant in this area. We understand that it was game day, and there were some groups and couples dining, but the restaurant did not appear overly busy at the time. Because of that, the long wait time and lack of attention were even more frustrating. We ordered two lemonades with our meal and were hoping to get refills, but after our food was delivered, our waiter never returned to check on us. No one asked how the food was, if we needed anything else, or offered refills. We were essentially left to finish the meal on our own. On a positive note, the restaurant itself was clean, including the bathrooms, which were well-maintained. The area felt safe, and there is a parking garage conveniently located next to the restaurant. They do validate parking, which is definitely a plus. The bar also appeared to have a wide selection of alcohol, although we did not order any alcoholic drinks during our visit. Overall, while the cleanliness and location were good, the customer service and food quality fell far short of expectations. Between the undercooked chicken, incorrectly prepared burger, lack of follow-up from our waiter, and long initial wait time, the experience was disappointing. Because of this, I don't believe we will be returning. Final Rating: 2/5

    Shrimp and Grits

The food, service, vibes, all YES! It was my first time visiting and it won't be my last. This was what we didn't know we needed. Moms was with me this trip and she immediately went for the shrimp and grits and her current love - a moscow mule. I was a little more indecisive and asked our waitress for recommendations. In the end, I too settled for the shrimp and grits but had a sex on the beach instead. The shrimp and grits - GET. IT. The shrimp are a good size. The sausage thinly sliced and with a hint of heat making me think the thin slicing of was intentional. if the andouille were cut heavier it would have been a spicy bite and not suitable for everyone. This way it's still good and anyone can enjoy it. The sauce was decadent- well seasoned and velvety. The grits weren't as creamy as I'd like but still a strong base. Balanced, flavorful, and filling 9/10. Both drinks (Moscow mule was my 2nd drink cuz moms said hers was so good) were on point. Good flavor (one sweet the other gingery) but packed a punch. Drinks 10/10 The vibes were everything- excellent music that had all of us (varying races) singing loud. You could tell the generations cuz we were all on the Love Train but some where on the Confunksion track while others were firmly boarding from the Bruno Mars/Silk Sonic Station but we were all rocking and singing. Our waitress (Maya or Mariah - I think - I swear I knew her name before that moscow mule kicked) was AMAZING. Gave great suggestions, checked on us regularly, & was sweet as pie so service and vibes 10/10. Definitely coming back so many more things on the menu I want to try starting with the lamb chops. Parking is in the garage to the right of the restaurant and validated for 2 hours.

The Union Bar has a modern, soft-luxe atmosphere--stylish but still comfortable. The music was good and definitely on the louder side, but I appreciated that you could still hold a conversation with a group. It gave the place energy without making it too hard to connect. I had the Thai shrimp soup and enjoyed it. It came out hot, had a light and flavorful broth, and the portion was just right with a good amount of shrimp--not too small, not too heavy. The lamb chops didn't quite hit it for me but is loved by many others. Customer service was generally attentive similar to what you would expect anywhere on average.

My sister, girlfriend, and I had dinner at Union Grill and it was honestly amazing. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was right--R&B music playing, comfy chairs, and a chill but stylish atmosphere. Our server, Dashawntae, was excellent--super attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Definitely added to the great experience. Now let's talk FOOD: Shrimp Jamaican Curry Bowl - flavorful and hearty. Honey Old Bay Wings - SO GOOD. You could tell the seasoning was cooked with the wings, not just sprinkled on after. A+ for that. Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with Fries - crispy, flavorful, and not greasy at all. Crab Cake Sandwich with Fries - fresh and tasty, just the right amount of seasoning. Drinks: We had an espresso martini, manhattan, and a margarita--each one hit the spot. Strong but smooth. Everything was affordable and well worth it. We had zero complaints. Can't wait to go back!

Came here with some coworkers, one of them lives right next door and always raves about this spot, and now I see why! The drinks were strong (just how I like them). I ordered a mojito and they didn't skimp on the mint, it was perfectly balanced and refreshing. We also had a few shots, and the pours were generous, which is always a plus. I got the lamb chops with mashed potatoes while my coworker got theirs with fries. The chops were packed with flavor. The chimichurri sauce was amazing! ended up pouring it all over my velvet-smooth, buttery mash, and it took everything up a notch. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and the vibe was just righ; good music, good people, and a relaxed atmosphere. After we ate, we stuck around to chat and enjoy the music. Even though we were eventually asked to wrap things up, we were able to finish our drinks without feeling rushed. All in all, a wonderful experience. I'll definitely be back!

Jerk tenders.. terrible pre-frozen chicken nuggets drowned in sauce
    Unique B.

We kept seeing this bar a few times we came in town and today decided to try them out.. A bar empty on football Sunday, with multiple residents living around to pack the place. Oh it's a bad sign to begin with but I paid it no mind. Ordered food and drinks the first glass was dirty with lip gloss still on it after she made the drink and the remake the glass was chipped.. We ordered jerk chicken tenders, shrimp tacos and a hot honey chicken sandwich( that came out 45mins later)that came out in 4mins.. mind you there's no one at the bar and barely 3 tables sat, but after we ordered the bar become busy but the rest of the restaurant is empty. I don't know if this was a off day but the tenders were pre-made frozen nuggets drowned in a bbq-jerk sauce tasted terrible.. shrimp tacos were the best item we ordered. Bartender never gave us napkins cutlery or even asked how the food was till we asked for everything or got it ourselves.. she wasn't doing anything but standing around at times or looking uninterested in being at work... Even the customers next to us were having their own food & drink issues.. My hot chicken sandwich came out super late (now 1hr)and not how I ordered it.. when the Manager "fixed it" I received a regular fresh chicken sandwich again not what I ordered.. unfortunately we didn't have time to continue playing around here and just closed our bill manager gave a little discount but for the time and experience we had wasn't enough.. I let the Bartender know about the chipped cup at the end cause I didn't want the attitude with pointing this out again cause that her job.. Bathroom also was unkept, tissue and paper towel om the floor. We were hoping this place would be a hit and add it to places we love to visit in MD unfortunately besides the decor that was it cause the staff couldn't care less about speed of service and sanitation.

This was my empty glass of what was my drink "Royal Flush"
    Dwayne H.

Food absolutely amazing - food was top-notch. The customer service was very good; and our waitress was very personable and professional. My wife is gluten free, so when she had questions about her food options; The waitress had the manager come out, who was very nice and patient. The drinks was on point as well. The restaurant had a neo-soul vibe with good music playing throughout the restaurant speakers. Please check this spot out if you wanna just chill wit' you & yours for good food, drinks, and great customer service!

    Cheers to Wednesday!

We rolled up during happy hour and the bar was already three deep with concert goers, professionals still in their work clothes, and a few locals holding their usual spots. There were no open tables in sight but that didn't matter. We found our corner of the bar fast, and honestly, that ended up being the best seat in the house. A band played soft in the background. Servers moved through in outfits that said upscale, not sports bar. The whole room had that pre-show buzz, dressed up but not stiff. We blended in well. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip on a local's recommendation. It came with warm chips, sour cream, and a house made salsa that quietly stole the entire appetizer. I wanted a bowl of just the salsa. Our server, who clearly knew the menu inside and out, sold us on the smoked salmon, and we added a side of bacon mac and cheese along with the cornbread. The salmon looked right, cooked medium with real smoke on it, but the smoke won the fight against the fish. Mushy inside, more fishy than smoky should allow. The sauce didn't rescue it either. Sautéed spinach on the side needed salt, plain and simple. Then the cornbread and mac and cheese showed up and reminded us why we came. Rich, comforting, with the kind of flavor that makes you forget the salmon happened. When I'm back, I'm ordering both of those twice and calling it a meal. Drinks were the real win. A Saratoga sparkling water kept things clean between bites, and the Peartini was one of the better cocktails I've had in a while, balanced, not too sweet, actually worth the price. The seat beside us turned over twice during the meal, first someone who went to the concert a few days earlier and wanted to talk about it, then someone else who slid in for a quick drink while waiting on their table. Both ended up in easy conversation with us, no forcing it. That's the part I keep thinking about, not the salmon. Copper Canyon got the room right, the drinks, the starters, the easy conversation with strangers. Some nights the food is the headline. This one, it was the people and the vibes, making it a great after-work or pregame pitstop, and that's always worth gathering for.

There was a small mix-up with my drink, I ordered orange juice but received apple juice instead but it wasn't a big deal, and everything else came out great. The diner also offers a variety of beverages, including alcoholic options, coffee, hot chocolate, and more, though we stuck with breakfast drinks this time. Pricing can be a bit on the higher side depending on what you order. For two people, our breakfast came out to around $68, but considering the quality of the food, service, and overall experience, it felt worth it. Overall, we had a great time and really enjoyed our breakfast here. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the friendly staff, I'd definitely come back again. 4 out of 5 stars!

I ordered oatmeal with raisins and a cup of fruit. The raisins turned out to be about 2ozs of raisins. Not nearly enough. The fruit cup was a few old strawberries and pineapple. No melon? Took awhile to get the check . The server did well.

JCK has been on my list for a while to try; glad I finally stopped through for happy hour on a…read moreFriday. Their HH runs Mon-Fri from 5-7 and include 5-7 cocktails, beer, and wine that they offer at $2ish off the regular price. We stuck with the cocktails and had their Blue Lagoons (which are essentially electric blue vodka lemonades) for $8ish. They were tasty and after 2 of them, we were definitely ready to party. Next time, I want to try the rum punch for $10 - though I noticed the rum punch was premade (vs being made fresh per order). Unfortunately, there are no food offers on the happy hour. The spot was very empty when we arrived, maybe around 5.30p - there was one other couple enjoying time at the bar. Outside of the 8-10 bar seats, they have some lounge level seating, as well as more standard 4-top tables. At the very front of the area, is a small stage where DJ's and karaoke specialists set up. The food was really good; I had the curry chicken plate for $16ish and my girlfriend had the shrimp rasta pasta for $19ish. The food was very flavorful and came out piping hot from the kitchen. I'd get the curry again, for sure. The environment and vibe was the most enjoyable part of my visit; the hip hop and top40's music gave the place a great energy (but wasn't so loud that you couldn't chat. The bartenders were energetic, lively, and friendly. There seemed to be alot of regular patrons who knew each other and the bartenders - that's a really good sign. The star of the show was karaoke which started around 8 (when the bar was getting much more crowded). The karaoke host was great; she kept the group energized and led some karaoke style games and activities that I hadn't seen before. We ended up stay out way longer than expected because we were having such a nice time. I look forward to my next happy hour at JCK. Pro tip: It looks like they have coordinated, promoted parties twice a month on Fridays. And on the other Fridays, they have the 'standard' karaoke nights. Check their IG for the official, promoted parties.

I am no stranger to them, having seen their truck at Savor Bowie almost every single time I've gone. And I've driven by their brick-and-mortar multiple times, but never stopped. This one crossed my radar when my friend invited me to a soca party, and I was like "JCK Bar & Lounge? In Hyattsville? How have I never heard of that?" And now it all makes sense -- some time last year, Jamaican Country Kitchen expanded, and now they've got this place, DJ booth, dance floor, bar, lounge, restaurant, all in one. And I gotta say, it was a vibe. The staff was nice and I loved the decor and feel of the place. Bar was cozy and it was nice to be somewhere this late at night that still served authentic Caribbean food. They have happy hour, so I am going to have to return and get a deep dive on how they feel on a regular weekday after work. And I gotta see how their food compares to my other favorites nowadays!
