The reviews of Silver Dish are crazy good. So I was excited to be in Provo and try it out, especially since it was right by my hotel. We called ahead and made reservations and were seated almost immediately. All good. Then the waiting began. It took over 20 minutes to get water and get our order in. Painful. We are not in Europe. So... We got our orders, including a couple of sodas. The sodas didn't come. I finally had to stand up and get the server to get our drinks. I guess it was self serve. It took quite a while, but the food finally came. Granted it was busy, so there is a a little bit of a pass on that. Our table had the pumpkin and pineapple curry. Both were very good. I highly recommend them. I am not a huge fan of curry, but really enjoyed the bites that I had of them. I ordered the pad thai for myself. It really lacked flavor. I tried to grab as much sauce from the bottom of the plate as possible, but failed. The chicken had no flavor at all. So I was disappointed. Finally we finished our food and then waited on the check. It just flat out never came. I asked once and still nothing. Finally I had to get up and find the server again to get the check. Annoying. Overall the food was fine. The service was rough. Wow! The Thai food here is incredibly delicious. We were really hungry after traveling a long distance today. The service was excellent and the food itself is some of the best I've had in a long time. We had pumpkin curry, potstickers, and drunken noodle. We also had some Tom Ka Soup which was delicious . The prices are very reasonable, about $8-$10 a dish. The portions are good and the speed from ordering to service is great. We are not from this area but will be back next time we are in the area as the food was so good. The curries are smooth and flavorful with the right amount of spice and heat. I'm personally not a big fan of super sweet curry and this definitely was not overly sweet. If you are in the area be sure to stop or place an order for pickup. My husband and I were so impressed with this place! We've been looking for a good Thai place that we can go to consistently and we've definitely found it. From the moment you walk in, you're met with a very friendly greeting. The owner's son is one of the best waiters we've had in a very long time. He's very observant and detailed. After we sat down, he brought our waters for all of us including our son in a kid's cup. We ordered fried spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce. I got the drunken noodles. My husband got the pineapple curry and our son got the kids combo with chicken nuggets and fries. The flavor was amazing both for the drunken noodles and the pineapple curry. Drunken noodles are pretty spicy so unless you really like spicy, I'd do pad Thai. I love them though. And the curry flavor was phenomenal. We got two desserts since it was our anniversary. We got the mango sticky rice and the fried banana ice cream. So yummy! The service is amazing. I didn't get his name but the owner's son was attentive, friendly, and just very pleasant. This is one of our favorite restaurants to go to! But I've noticed lately, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the food is AMAZING and fresh! While my favorite thai places are in CA and WA, I enjoyed the pad thai and yellow curry here. We didn't like the pineapple fried rice as much, but that's probably more a matter of personal preference. They do dine in and take out right now. THE BEST. Great food, service, staff. Probably a little understaffed so if you come at a busy time you won't have the best experience, but we went on a monday night and there were only a couple other groups there. It was great. They're the only thai restaurant in the area that does a mango curry and it is FIRE. We also got the drunken noodles + mango sticky rice which were equally great. I'm never in Utah County but was visiting family so we looked for Thai food in Provo and found this little hole in the wall on Center Street. I've eaten a lot of Thai food all over the US, and this is excellent Thai food. My sister and I shared the pad Thai and a yellow curry, both with chicken. I brought a lot home and we all ate it for dinner last night. Curries usually reheat just fine, but pad Thai can turn into a goopy mess. This one reheated beautifully and got rave reviews on its second serving. I'm so rarely in Provo, but I would absolutely go here again, and if you go, you won't be disappointed. I was looking for a good Thai restaurant in the area because I had just discovered how much I loved drunken noodles, so I decided to stop by Silver Dish since it was so highly rated. The drunken noodles were just not good. The meal was both bland and it left me feeling bloated and sick a few hours after I ate it. The restaurant itself is very small, and I could smell the cleaning supplies from where we were eating, which didn't really help the experience. I ordered the golden fried rice and was not very happy with it. The fried rice seemed to be cooked with fresh rice, which made the rice very soft and crumbly. The one Asian cuisine my whole family can almost always agree upon is Thai food. Pho and Ramen are a pretty close second but when we want something other than soup, Thai is an easy default. The downside of this is that there's a a lot of crap Thai food out there so it's good to have trusted, known places to eat. My oldest daughter is going to school in Provo and though the food in UT is generally very good, she hadn't found a Thai place that she really liked consistently in the two years she's lived there. We were in town to help her and her husband move and after a busy day, we were all pretty hungry. I hit Yelp looking for options and realized this was just a few blocks from her new apartment and the reviews were very good. We rolled in and sat down. They were doing pretty brisk business which is generally a good indicator of quality. As we were waiting, an old friend from WA who had actually lived in Thailand for a couple of years came rolling in with his wife. We hadn't seen him since leaving WA a couple of years ago and we were happy to see him and catch up. He assured us that this was the best Thai food in town and possibly the state. His endorsement obviously carried some weight given his time spent in Thailand. We've also been friends with his family for over 20 years and their food endorsements have always been solid. His dad had spent time in Korea and always knew where the best Korean food was around Seattle. We ordered a mix of stuff from Pad Thai to soup and curry as well as some Satay as an appetizer. It was all fantastic. It was some of the best Thai I've ever had and definitely the best in UT. I'd put it on par with our favorite spots back in WA and in our new home state of NV. My wife said it was the best Pineapple Curry she'd ever had and though I didn't get much of it, I would completely concur. The Pad Thai was excellent and I loved the noodle soup. Everyone really liked the Satay a lot as well. Since they'll be there for at least the next several years, I assume we'll eat here regularly when we come to visit and I know her and her husband will as well. I didn't check to see if they had garlic and pepper, Rad Na and Swimming/Showering Rama on the menu, which are some of my other favorites that I've had a harder time finding since leaving Seattle but I will scour the menu for them when we visit again. This place is great. There is a lot of options, the price is right, and the flavor is fantastic. I ordered the Massaman Curry and was not disappointed. The portion was massive, the ingredients were cooked to perfection and fell apart easily. I also respect the rice amount and that they are not hesitant to bring more if you need. We had a large group on an already busy night and the service was still attentive and pretty quick. I have been searching for a replacement Thai place in Provo because of Thai Village changing owners and this was pretty close. Admissible, Tolerable Thai in Provo. While on our way home from a wedding in Santaquin, we decided to stop by this quaint restaurant in Provo for what one assume would be a quiet dinner. The restaurant is situated in a nice walkable area with live music usually playing. Unfortunately, though not fully Silver Dish's fault, our dinner was sabotaged by incredibly noisy clientele, with one woman refusing to stop (almost) yelling into her phone the entire time, annoying her tablemate and exposing us to more dirty gossip than I would like to hear in one night. A 5 minute call is bad enough but 25 in a non-emergency situation, inside a restaurant, where even your own tablemate is hushing you is completely aggravating. I was disappointed that Silver's service did not respond to this person's outbursts though they were aware of the situation. Justin Bieber was also playing over the speakers. Not the best accompaniment to a family trying to have a meal together, but Silver Dish made up for this quip in other ways. Please go outside if you need to take a call. Thanks for reading my TED talk. Onto the food: *Chicken Satay ($6.99): Four wide pieces of marinated chicken with Peanut Sauce. The chicken pieces were melded onto the satay very thoroughly, making it difficult to pull off the stick. It was more of an untraditional and awkward fork and knife affair. Chicken portion was generous, but a bit tough and wanting in flavor. The end of the satay was a stub, making it hard to hold. The peanut sauce was a small portion relative to the chicken but nutty and above par (2/5). *Tom Kha ($8.99): Hands down the best dish we had here. The broth, leaning more towards the less thick side though not watery, was fragrant and a bit sweet though not lime-y, and dull. The red onions were an interesting touch, but added a nice sweetness. Quartered tomatoes that weren't too mushy and a little kick from the green onions was nice. Mushrooms were tender. My only complaint was the chicken was a bit tough (4/5). * Shrimp Pad Thai ($10.99): So how did Silver Plate do with Thailand's most ubiquitous dish? Sadly, it missed the mark a little. This Pad Thai was much more wet than usual, and was sopped with a sauce that was acrid, lime-y, and a little sour. The shrimp, while cooked well, tasted old. Portion was hearty though and the noodles weren't too chewy despite extra moisture (2.5/5). * Chicken Green (Green Eggs & Ham level Green) Curry ($8.99): This curry was so green in color the Grinch would be jealous and perhaps approve! While even medium spiced, it was the equivalent of a mild, but this is Provo, Utah. Thinly sliced Zucchini, red and green bell peppers, bamboo shoots all coalesced nicely with an intensely, eye-poppingly green curry that was mild but inoffensive. Fine, but going full-on spicy next time for the greenest green curry I have ever seen (3.25/5). Overall, I found Silver Plate was OK. It definitely caters more towards a Utah palate and the average demographic of the university nearby. The spice levels were quite low for medium and hot respectively. The vibe is college town casual. One easy swap to make Silver Plate better is to please change the music. Though a minor quip, I am certain many other diners would agree that they do not need to hear JB with their meal! read more
