Let's face it: there are a lot of places to drink in CB. You can't throw a rock without hitting some sort of cut-and-paste franchise tourist trap with unused surfboards hanging on the walls. If that's the kind of place you're looking for, hey, have a blast. It takes a village, right? But what if you're looking for something else? What if you're looking for a place that doesn't care about a fancy address on the strip? What if you're looking for a no-frills local bar where you can enjoy cheap and awesome drinks from the friendliest bar in CB? If you care about cold drinks and a cool local vibe, then the SD is where you want to be. The SD is all about laid-back atmosphere and absolutely the friendliest service you'll find. There's always beach music in the air and a friendly crowd where the locals treat out-of-towners like one of their own. That's the SD experience.

Family owned vibe, chill spot by the water. Easy to stop in and grab a drink. Friendly staff. No beers on tap though, just bottles and cans :(

This is a pretty old school bar that is a local favorite. Drinks are decent, beer is cold and the food is actually pretty good. I was not expecting the food to be as good as it was. In fact, I wasn't planning on eating here, just drinking, but we got hungry. Crab dip is very good. Homemade pork skins are good as well. Decent number of food items for appetizers or even a meal (sandwiches, some steamed seafood). Only downside is they don't have any beer on draft but they do have a large selection of beer in cans and bottles.

If you ever come into Carolina Beach , feeling lonely or feeling like your whole gang of people just need somewhere to feel welcome. It's gonna be the silver dollar. Hopefully you get to have Tasha serving you but if you don't all of their staff are attentive and warm and welcoming. Also, your drinks are good. Their drinks are cheap and their staff amazing.

The teens Seafood Medley was out of this world! Oysters crab legs, shrimp, clams, sausage, corn on the cob. He was in heaven

What a great oceanside experience! The teen got his crab legs aka seafood medley The toddler had chips n cheese. Me fresh made to order shrimp quesadillas. We had more than enough. The people there were Fantastic! (Both the server and cook) I could've hugged them I didn't get a pic of my shrimp quesadilla somehow. It was great having fresh cut lettuce & tomato!

As a native, we found this bar years ago and still go each time we're in town! Great service, great prices and always a good time.

The egg rolls are a little odd (but not bad), and the crab dip was the only misstep (probably from not properly reduced alcohol...

Once seated though things moved pretty fast. Our waiter Noah T was very attentive, answered our questions and we were off and running. We chose a couple of appetizers; a bowl of Chowder (only because of the raves from fellow Yelpers) and the Athenian Bruschetta. Both were very good but my expectant bubble was burst as it wasn't "the best I have had" as many of the Yelpers had described it. The Athenian Bruschetta though was A-amazing. For Entree I had the stuffed Flounder and Norma had Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. Both were very delicious. Atmosphere was nice, a bit crowded, as you would expect where the food is really good. Tables were tight. Hard to navigate with Norma's wheelchair, but we made it through. Large helpings, took tomorrow's lunch back to the hotel. A definite come back to place.

The vibe is fairly casual. Fairly affordable prices. I am a tough critic on seafood because I grew up on the coast eating fresh seafood, so others may have differing opinions. I had high expectations as a result of the reviews. The chowder was the star for me and could be elevated to excellent with a little more seasoning (I added a lot of pepper which was enough to give it a kick and make it exceptionally tasty). The oysters were good. The crab cakes didn't have enough lump crab for my taste -- more cake than crab, if that makes sense. And the hushpuppies were a bit bland. My son enjoyed the mac which came in a large portion. Although we were just there for takeout, the employees were friendly and helpful.

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!
