When Tara and I were dating one of her favorite things to do was grab a meal at IHOP. Breakfasts, late night dinners, post-film treats--all were susceptible to being done at IHOP. It's because of this I got very familiar with Swedish Crepes or Pancakes, as some might call them. I don't know if they were ever my favorite style of pancakes but they were always an option on those rare occasions I wanted something with more fruit than blueberry. Tara always appreciated me making an effort to broaden my perspective on what a good pancake or crepe constituted. That being said, I hardly ever run into great Swedish crepes. Usually the butter or compote is sub-standard, and I usually feel like I should've gotten something different. Silver Dollar Pancake House makes some majestic Swedish crepes. Yes, it's more of a cranberry than a lingonberry, but otherwise the compote and Swedish butter are spot-on. The crepes came out nice and thin, but still super flavorful. Everything came together so great. Even the fact the special comes with six sausages after you switch out the bacon is amazing. I would get this deal over and over again. The service at the counter was frenzied and focused. Every time I needed my coffee refilled, the server was on it. The food came quickly and there were frequent check-ins. It's literally everything you could want in customer service at a counter. Yes, the ambiance is bit crowded and a bit hectic. I don't envy trying to get a seat in the dining room because everything is but cramped up in there. That being said, I don't think anyone waited longer than fifteen minutes and folks seemed genuinely glad to be there. It's the price you pay for eating at a popular breakfast spot with breakfast entrees this delicious. Plus, eating at the counter always seemed open. And from someone who hates eating at counters most of the time, that's saying a lot that I would suggest it as a viable option. Overall, this is the dream place for those like Tara who can't get enough of pancakes and a damn good option for those like me who are content to keep their amateur status intact by only occasionally indulging in the Swedish signature dish. read more

This review goes beyond soggy crepes. My brother ordered $200 worth of breakfast for our family. He loves pancakes and was raving about how great the food is here. He was excited for me to try it. I ordered the strawberry roll ups and they were VERY soggy. Still optimistic, I called wanting to resolve the issue and bring the food back to try something different but the woman who referred to herself as the "bosses daughter" was disrespectful and inconsiderate. She said "you should have put it on the side for a to go order" and told me "you don't have to eat here if you don't like it". Just very unprofessional. I checked the other 1 star reviews and this isn't the first complaint on her being rude to customers. Oh no! After not patronizing here for a decade, we decided to give it one more chance. But sadly, I still find little that would convince me to return. I wish I didn't have to feel that way. This is supposedly a Corona icon. Prices. Granted, all of us are struggling to survive the inflation right now, but they could have tried a little harder. Breakfasts have become exceedingly expensive for what you get. But the topper was a surcharge for each egg on your plate. And, once they arrived, the eggs were appallingly small. Then, more surcharges for cups to go, and a surcharge for ice in that cup. Frankly, I find "surcharges" are a turn-off. The buttermilk pancakes were nothing to write home about and had already cooled down by the time the butter was applied, so the butter wouldn't melt. Same problem with the toast. The hash browns, while good, were only crisp on one side. The other side was cooked but flabby white. The tables are too close together, seating was cramped. The stools at the counter looked more appealing. The room temperature was chilly. If you are mobility or wheelchair challenged, access to the dining room requires climbing a couple stairs and squeezing through narrow aisles. And lastly, who wants to sit at tables right next to the bathroom door? Now that I have vented, I can tell you a few things things that went well. Our waitress was very sweet. The sausage links are savory delicious. The food came out of the kitchen fairly quickly. The coffee and water refills kept coming. It appeared the interior had recently been repainted and seats reupholstered, all in a pleasant aqua color. I am still confused why this place has survived over so many decades. I hate to write this since I have been eating at this restaurant for decades and lately, they just can't get it right. I ordered banana pancakes light. And this is what I got. As soon as I opened the box, I could smell burn. Then I look at the bottom of the pancake and they are fine. So which is it? Is the top burnt or is the bottom not cooked? Look at the profile pic for Silver Dollar. That's how I want my pancakes. Why is it soo difficult for a PANCAKE restaurant to serve edible pancakes??? Not only did the pancakes look burnt, they tasted burnt as well. Not even the pecans or syrup could mask that bitter taste. To top it off, at the third bite, all I could taste was burnt onions. Between you and me, "burnt onion pancakes" should never be served...to anyone. Our whole breakfast went straight into the trash. Please do better Silver Dollar. read more

Some of my favorite places to eat have those limited breakfast and lunch hours. If you're open 6am-2pm you have my attention. One of those places is an old Corona institution and LOOKS like an old Corona institution when you see it from the outside. Located on 6th St, the Silver Dollar Pancake House has that old school looking sign (which probably used to have neon on it) and that rock exterior that tells you it's been around for a minute. Inside you're met with a large dining counter which is probably where the regulars hang out. Further in is the dining area which is covered in pictures of kids sports teams and newspaper clippings. The menu is large and features lots of ways to eat pancakes....including one with chili....needless to say I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with biscuit and gravy on the side. The steak was nicely breaded and the gravy they serve is very good. The biscuit was moist and was covered in plenty of that delicious gravy. Service was friendly and efficient. My water glass was never empty long! The Silver Dollar Pancake House is my kind of place. And for a lot of other people too. I came on a Wednesday morning and it was still extremely full.
