We are long-time patrons of Silver Pines Lodge in the adorable, usually quiet mountain community of Idyllwild, Ca. So when we recently had a college graduation needing to be celebrated (my amazing 40 year old daughter who has juggled raising and home schooling her own two children, while working part time, and chiseling away at her own Batchelors of Science degree over a 5 year span), I asked her how she wanted to celebrate her accomplishment. Her only request was to re-live her childhood memories of our family vacations at Silver Pines. That, and plenty of good wine. A great request (as long as we were included). As I delved into planning this, I discovered that the original Silver Pines Lodge has changed in many ways since we were last there many years ago. First of all, I learned that Chris, the long- time owner who had poured her heart into rehabilitating this delightful historical landmark, and whom we loved, had finally relinquished her ownership and retired. Sad to hear, my first inclination was, would it be as nice anymore? I pressed on. Silver Pines' new property manager came across as quite friendly and competent. We learned they had also expanded their list of properties. This included the acquisition of the Silver Pines Village, a charming, 11-room B&B-like property just down the street from their original, big rustic lodge. It's quaint, Victorian appearance and mountain charm was quite compelling. It is also a newer, roomier property and appears to be well maintained. This seemed to be the best choice for our family. While you can easily make reservations online, I had ended up calling their front desk. I had multiple questions before we committed and I am glad I did! They were very helpful. While not ordinarily an issue in mountain communities, they advertise no air conditioning. Since we were visiting in July when temps might rise to 90-ish, this was one of those rare times when it might matter. I learned that a few of their rooms at the Victorian inn had window air units or swamp cooler units. We booked our two rooms, #20 and #21, for that very reason. But we discovered that once the sun went down, it became tolerable using only the ceiling fans. The larger of our two rooms (#21) had a small kitchen with stove, full refrigerator, and microwave. We planned to cook several family meals since eating out regularly could become prohibitive. The downfall was that the kitchen was stocked minimally with only a few cooking utensils and one medium-sized glass bowl for serving. We could also have done with more silverware. There were 6 of us total, and there was not enough to accommodate us all. We ended up getting plastic ware from the local market. Our mini refrigerator in #20 had a tiny freezer unit just large enough for an ice cube tray, but it was all iced up and completely unusable. We made plans that included using their one propane bbq on the property. If you are making plans to cook, I would consider bringing along a baking sheet and tongs from home. Disappointing, neither of our rooms provided shampoo or kleenex. There was a small coffee maker and enough coffee for one day in each of the two rooms. We ended up buying some lovely coffee grounds from a local roasters since we tend to be prolific drinkers and unforgivable coffee snobs. The smaller room, Room 20, has a small shower stall, but no hand-held wand, a feature I tend to appreciate. Room 21 is larger and wheelchair-friendly, with a spacious handicap-friendly shower. As for seating, the larger room had an awkward, sunken couch, one lounge chair with an ottoman. Instead of a dining table, there were a few wooden stools and a dining counter with cramped access. Outside, two metal patio tables and chairs, with an umbrella, sat out on their large wooden deck that was shared with an adjacent unit. The beds, a queen plus two twins, were comfortable with memory foam mattresses. Lots of extra pillows and blankets. Walking to the downtown Village is easy. There are multiple restaurants and coffee houses nearby, and some quaint shops to buy mementos and gifts. There are also two groceries nearby. All in all, our mini vacay was delightful. Silver Pines delivers when it comes to sweet memories of a mountain retreat, but knowing the short comings, we need to plan accordingly.

We have have stayed at the Silver Pines Village now 3 times and keep planning trips to come up. They are great cabins for a nice get away. Cozy and always kept so clean. It's just a small walk to the main city area which makes it nice to go down to the winery and walk back to your cabin. We really enjoy the location and the cozy feel the cabins give. We look forward to coming back over and over again They are also very dog friendly! Which is such a nice perk. We have stayed in #17 which is on the small side and in the back of the silver pines village. Great for 2 people #14 has a great big jacuzzi tub and a wood burning fireplace which keeps the room very warm. Also great for 2 people #24 is a two bedroom 2 story cabin. Big kitchen with all the pots and pans you could need. Living room area is on the small side. Has a nice dining table to eat at with great window views to see all the birds and squirrels. The rooms and bathroom are upstairs which was hard on my older parents but the rooms are big and spacious. It could use some updates, but I think you also get what you pay for. It's not a luxury hotel feel it's a homey small town cabin feel.

We came up for my brother and SIL's wedding. The couple rented the Papa Bear cabin, my partner and I had the Mama Bear cabin and my cousins had the Baby Bear. It was such a cool setup! Perfect for a family trip where you want your own space but be able to hang out. Kitchen was great. Mama Bear has a beautiful view of the trees from the kitchen. All 3 had patio views of the trees. A bunch of my friends and family rented out other cabins on the property. Some had swamp coolers which really helped when it was hot. Mama Bear didn't but had a fan, so we did get toasty so that'd be my only con. The wedding reception was in the town hall. It was super cool to be able to walk to the cabin not too far away when we needed a break or to get something. Great view of trees on the outside patio. The sunset was beautiful. The staff was very friendly that I interacted with. I spoke to Raje on the way out and he seemed really nice! I think he may have been the owner. He asked how our stay was and welcomed us to come back. The pricing was very reasonable and there was a big variety of cabin sizes. I would love to come back for a relaxing cabin stay. Thank you!

This place needs a update, when we arrived to our room it is very dingy and unwelcoming. I went to get the coffee pot ready for the morning and the coffee grinds for thr previous guests was still in there and the coffee pot was not clean the were no new filters or coffee. Also no coffee cups. No toilet paper was on the dispenser so after using the restroom I had sit and look for toilet paper. We will not be staying at this establishment again. I do not recommend this lodge.

This place has been around for a century and it's time for a refurbishment or at the very least a cleaning. I did want my dogs to sleep on the rugs because it was just too filthy! The stove did not work and the fridge was nasty and over frozen! There were stray hairs on the dishes. The towels seemed to be reused and need to be replaced. Every inch of the place needed a scrubbing! The water pressure was nonexistence and the shower curtain was mildewed! Staying here was a half step up from sleeping on the dirt. I'm so happy that I brought my own towels and sheets! Ultimately cabin no 1 is not fit for human habitation. I used up an entire can of Lysol. Do better! Get some second hand furniture and spruce this place up or stop renting it out. I found it necessary to eat in my car because I didn't want to catch anything.

Small hidden gem that is close to everything in downtown Idyllwild. The cabins are small and quaint, they give off a very homey feeling. Check in was easy and the receptionist handed us a flier with things to do nearby and what restaurants to try. Parking is on the side of the property, so with that being said be prepared to unload and walk with your luggage over to your cabin. We did have to make a few trips. There is a small koi pond and seating outside. They also have a small rec room with a fire going. Great place to relax and read a book. Now I'm only giving 4 stars because the cabin is very outdated. The rug looked dirty and the room did have a small musty smell. Overall it was quiet with a great view of the woods. Everything was within walking distance nearby. Staff is very sweet and friendly.

We stayed in the CatNap room #7. I'd describe it as more cramped than cozy, studio. Low water pressure in kitchen sink, but Hard flow in shower. Mostly shocked at loose tile in kitchen and 6' long lump in carpet. Surely the maid would have noticed these tripping hazards. Reported it to the desk, but they were nonchalant. Stairs were quite narrow to get into the room. Otherwise, friendly staff, and pleasant surrounds ...

I stayed in both #1&2 cabins in two separate occasions. I'd say it's a great location with reasonable price. However both cabins (due to its age) have its own issues. Cabin #1 (I don't have photos) cottage: it's small and the fireplace does not work well. Sometimes the smoke does not go out properly and the whole cabin is smoky. It also has a sign saying that hot water tank isn't very big for this cabin so don't turn on or use hot water for too long (in case you run out). It's a cozy small studio cabin. I enjoyed my stay. My husband and I didn't have issue not having enough water. We weren't happy with the fireplace as it was smoky the first night. We didn't change anything but somehow the smoke went out properly the second night. Cabin #2 Vista: this cabin is surprise roomy and nice. I loved it! It also came with a patio to sit outside and hang out. I cannot say enough good words about this cabin and will stay in again. However, there are some serious safety issues for the stove. Two of the back ones don't work. The front ones, one switch controls both and the biggest burner does not turn down. It was so hard to cook (it's an electric, cottage has the gas range stove). Oven worked fine. It was also weird that during the day, this cabin's temperature went up to 85F which is uncomfortable (outside is 65F ish). But other than these two issues, I really loved the Vista cabin and I would choose Vista over Cottage.

Beautiful, well-kept grounds in a great area with a quick walk to town. Rooms have a mountain vibe and are a bit outdated but cozy and clean. Being able to bring our pup was a huge plus! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back!

Every time I come up to the mountain, I stay here. The staff (owners?) are so friendly. The property is older and it gives you that rustic lodge feel that is just wonderful. Always love staying here, and will be many more times. read more

This place is the worst besides the delightful check in attendant. Mold in the bathroom caulking, mildewy towels,dog urine stains on the carpet,filthy sofas(I wouldn't even sit on them),chipped paint everywhere. This place needs to be gutted. A flophouse for 200 a night. One star over ranks it. Gross, do not stay here!!!!! read more

Booked a room in the lodge on short notice for the weekend. I am a frequent visitor to Idyllwild but this was the first stay at Silver Pines. Check in was easy and the owners/managers are cordial. The common room in the lodge is large, rustic and comfortable. I was in an older upstairs room overlooking the Koi pond and creek. The room was clean with a fully functional kitchen. The prices are more than fair and the lodge is a short walk from everything in town. I understand the property includes newer rooms and cabins along Cedar Street so there is something for everyone. read more

We rented the Foley Cabin through Silver Pines Lodge for the weekend. We noticed a rodent problem and lack of deep cleaning in the cabin. When we came in late night on Friday, we noticed droppings on a lot of the surfaces (kitchen counter, under cabinets, drawers, tables, etc). Also a lot of the surfaces inside the cabinets of the kitchen were very dusty and of course with mouse droppings. Some of the cloths in the kitchen drawers were very dirty. Health risk and hygiene were concerns so we had to disinfect and wash all utensil, plates, cups, pots, boards, etc to be comfortable. The next morning we noticed new droppings on the kitchen counter. We contacted management and gave us 2 options , to leave or they would give us a mouse trap to catch the rat ! Neither of them was an option. It was a long weekend and no vacancies nearby. Then on Saturday night after dinner, we were sitting in the dining room when a few of us noticed a mouse on the kitchen counter going after some leftovers. We pointed it out and everyone started screaming and the mouse ran trough the kitchen, up the wall and away through a little hole on the kitchen ceiling. Later we pushed two beds together upstairs so the kids could watch a movie together and noticed a lot of droppings behind the beds and everyone was grossed out and a lot of them that are terrified of mice could not even sleep that night thinking of the mouse running around the house. Therefore, our experience at the cabin was not as pleasant as we had been looking forward to. I am a landlord myself and I know that maintaining a dwelling to be free of rodents is important to me and my tenants. In the end, the manangent company told us that mice are very common in the wilderness and that we should have been ok with that. I beg to differ. Chris Jenner the owner was nasty on the phone and refused to credit us what we feel was owed for our troubles. We paid almost $300 a night. read more

Not family owned anymore SOLD TO CORPORATION, no small town family feel. Prices went way up especially on holidays. Nothing has been done to the old outdated rooms....only good thing about this place now is its location...we are trying new places already...... read more

Great little spot. Dog friendly cabins with a kitchen and a nice deck overlooking the Koi pond and the trickling waterfall. Very lovely. We were in the Owl's nest. Trees and squirrels and water. Nice lodge area, too. I will say it was super hot all night (no air conditioning), but much better with the ceiling fans on, however the fans were very loud.... the bed is hard if you like that (I like soft) and how much more is two-ply toilet paper??? Despite all that we really enjoyed ourselves-- dogs everywhere and there's a nice hike by the creek behind the lodge. read more

Very peaceful, welcoming place! I spent a night in Idyllwild during a Pacific Crest Trail hike, and Silver Pines was the perfect place to relax and take a break. The lodge itself has a lovely, old-fashioned common room, with a koi pond just outside. My room was a small suite with a kitchen perched above the creek. The location is also terrific, very close to all the stores and restaurants while still feeling tucked away in the woods. The owner, Chris, could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Since I was hiking, she let me check in early (for a blissfully satisfying shower!), and let me do my laundry - she even folded it and brought it to me when I was a bit slow in retrieving it! She also arranged a ride back to the trailhead for me, saving me some time and climbing. Overall, my stay was wonderful - I would happily return for a vacation even if not hiking. Great place for relaxing and enjoying Idyllwild. (FYI, another reviewer mentioned dogs - Chris has two dogs who may greet visitors, but they are very sweet and friendly and add to the charm of the place.) read more

Just got back from a one night stay in the Silver Pines Village #2 "the Sequoia" (a short walk down the block from the main lodge) and I couldn't be happier! Glenda was so helpful with booking our room and when we arrived Chris was SO accommodating! She provided us with detailed directions to the trials we wanted to hike and an adventure pass to borrow so we didn't have to buy one in town. Our room was much bigger than expected, reasonably priced and beautiful. I definitely can't wait for another trip, and i can't imagine staying anywhere else! read more

My wife and I went up to idyllwild for a weekend getaway. Idyllwild is a great little town if u like the outdoors. Some of the best hikes in the us are found here. Silver pines is the place we chose to stay. It is a dog friendly place so it was attractive to us. We wanted to take our dog sumo to the mountains for the first time. So that part was awesome. We booked the lazy lilac room. The room was very nice ... Not 4 star by any means but nice. My wife and I are very allergic to pollen and the lilacs were in full bloom for the lilac festival in town so that made our stay a bit uncomfortable. The other issue is that dogs are not the only animals allowed here and there definitely was pet dander in the room. We are fine with dogs, but other animals not so much. Risk we run I guess and we are not sure if cats were in that room at some point. The inn keeper was very nice and helpful. Overall great experience. Great wine tasting room in town. The restaurants were pretty disappointing. But I guess we did not come to idyllwild for the cuisine. read more

I loved this place until we asked to stay another night and was told only if we "treaded lightly" because the people in the cabin below complained that we were "stomping and moving furniture all night." Keep in mind that we both fell asleep before 9 and never moved any furniture. We are naturally very quiet people and the owner made us feel pretty unwelcome, even though she wasn't necessarily rude. The building is also almost 100 years old so I'm sure they could hear more than normal but all we did was relax. Sadly we won't be staying here again. read more

We were previously at a Airbnb and had to find somewhere to stay super last minute (literally looking for a place to stay after we checked out at 11 am). There was a winter storm that came by and we were stressing out trying to find somewhere to stay with two babies since everything was getting booked up. Luckily, Silver Pines Lodge has a cabin for us to stay in and we were able to check in right away. Everywhere else had 3 or 4 pm check in and we were literally caught in a snow storm. We had to stay an extra day on top of that and we were moved from the vista cabin to black oak. The vista cabin had gorgeous views and had a kitchen which was awesome but the black oak was super cozy and felt like home. We will definitely be coming back next time we're in town. Sandy was super helpful and was super sweet and Nate was friendly and made sure our cabins were warm and kept our pathways snow free. Thank you guys! read more

We loved staying here and will definitely return for another, hopefully longer, stay. Management was friendly & helpful, the cabin was clean, neat, cozy, quiet and quite comfortable. It was not the latest, glossy, cookie-cutter, hotel-like atmosphere & décor but that's what we liked. Visiting Idyllwild and Silver Pines Lodge was like stepping back in time without giving up modern amenities! read more

I stayed at the Pioneer Cabin #3. An absolute pit. Dirty and uncomfortable. The carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade. The couches looked like they had not been cleaned for at least that long. Terrible lighting, nowhere to sit and read. If my wife had been with me, she would have refused to stay there. I'm sure the new area is fine but this cabin needs to be totally redone. I won't be going back. EVER. read more

We stayed in #18 (Redwood) and it was a very private option. We were surprised that the room had no musty smell and was well appointed. This Silver Pines Lodge and Village is extremely pet friendly. We stayed 3 nights and only saw one group of people in the facility without a pet. Also, the location is private/feels like you are in the woods but you are very close to the town so it's a convenient option that is the best of both worlds. Highly recommend. read more

We stayed here from March 9-11th, 2018 AD; we truly enjoyed our time and room! We stayed in their, "Silver Pines Village" section. We had a great time! True, there were no hangers in the closet nor dressers/drawers for our clothes, but since it was a short stay - it worked! We did have a full kitchen, refrigerator, and plenty of room to stretch out! Also, there were gas fireplaces for heat! This isn't the, "Ritz" but it's better than, "Uncle Stan's cabin" out in the middle of nowhere. We had no admin issues and everything was clean. They do require payment of all nights upon check-in so be ready. (I'm cool with that as lazy/flaky people en masse are nowadays). As other Yelp reviewers have noted, this hotel/lodge is within walking distance of breweries and restaurants. The entire experience was fun! The town of Idyllwild, California is enchanting and worth the stay! If you like hiking, this is the place for you! Tons of trees and a great mountain experience at about 5,500 feet! I would recommend this hotel/lodge to family and friends! I would stay here again if I ever visit this town. A solid 5 stars! read more

We stayed in the Redwood room in their Village area which is more private than the lodge I believe. At $90 a night it's hard to complain but I definitely want to give you a heads up before booking. There were stains all over the bathroom floor and bugs and spiders everywhere in the room. If you can get past those things, it was actually a pleasant stay- the bed wasn't too uncomfortable. We brought a fan with us to help the air flow (highly recommend since there's no air conditioning) Also- BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW. We really didn't get any sleep because there were only two pillows on the bed- each one was about half an inch thick- might as well have no pillows. read more

Nice setting. Dog friendly. Super easy downtown rustic rooms in the heart of Idyllwild. I stayed in lazy lilac and you can hear the guests in the room above walking around and coming up and the down the stairs. Which they woke me up at 5:30am this morning. The guests earlier in the week were much more consider. I stayed 4 nights and no maid service the whole time. They gave me 2 towels for 5 days... The only 2 windows out of 4 that opened where super difficult to open and need a stick to keep open. I really like this rustic place and have stayed here numerous times in the past 20 yrs. Just be informed that it is luxury camping! read more

The staff was really nice, but the owner was not. We stayed there for the night and our room ended up getting flooded. They moved us to another room the next day we checked in at 11 AM and went to have lunch around one-ish came back and the room smell like gas. We called the staff and she came and verified that the room did smell like gas. There was another room which was available but that one had smelled like gas the previous day and so that's why the people have left. We asked to just leave and left around 4:30 PM so I called the owner couple days later and he ended up charging me for the room and the cleaning because he stated I had already used it which we did not. I think that I shouldn't get charged for a room if I don't stay in there, but I did agree that I would pay the cleaning fee if he wanted to charge me for that but he insisted to charge me on the room as well. Not a fair deal.. I would not go back here or their other property either.. read more

Disappointed is an understatement not very kid friendly establishment I got room #16 , 1 queen and 2 twins so In my mind (I booked online ) I thought easily fits 4/5 (a couple small baby and two kids under the age of 15) nope apparently is only meant for 2/3 occupants which makes no sense . Almost saying no your not allowed to be married with 2 kids and sleep in the same room , ok fine . The office calls the woman sounds bothered I don't know why but then proceeded to ask the amount of ppl I said 5 she said o nooo that's not acceptable (in a rude tone ) now you have to pay a cleaning fee of $50 .... Me on the phone calmly ma'am I booked online I had no idea there could only be 2/3 occupants it was all last minute unplanned and I have no problem booking another room (her tone immediately changes) oh ok well come to the office and we can arrange that . So at this point I'm not upset but more so concerned about the new sleeping arrangements now me and my partner are now in separate rooms . We got room #19 it was the closes to the other room , and that room wasn't as nice there were no Curtains by the bed so once the sun came up it immediately was in your face. And I'm #16 the heater wasn't working, and the way the ice was set up wasn't sanitary by any means the scooper was outside with dirt all over it and the ice is in a bag and who knows how many hands that have been unwashed touched that ice but we tried to make the most of this trip . read more

My husband and I stayed here this weekend. It was perfect! The lodge is so close to town you don't need to drive anywhere - except trailheads. Even though the cabin was older, it was immaculate. The back porch was great for sipping wine and listening to Strawberry Creek. There are two dogs on the property that only enhanced our stay. They are very calm and loved to be pet. Friday night we grilled burgers on the communal gas grill and dined on the patio of the lodge. There's a koi pond and small babbling stream out there. We can't wait to go back. read more

This is one of my favorite Idyllwild historic sites which sits nestled on Strawberry Creek. Built in the 20's with a rich history as a bar, theatre and, of course, hotel, there is ample public space both inside and out to enjoy. The rooms are small and basic, with country decor ... most have kitchenettes and fireplaces. Given the location in town and the value for your money, Silver Pines can't be beat! read more

We just returned home from a very relaxing and peaceful anniversary trip to Idyllwild. We stayed at The Silver Pines Lodge with our little blind Chihuahua Pancho. This is a rustic mountain lodge that is celebrating 100 years in Idyllwild. During those 100 years it has also been a tavern and the original location of Idyllwild's Rustic Theatre, I believe the lodge came about in 1952. Thank you Olivia for the history lesson. The room, #7 the Cat Nap had everything we needed. There was a kitchen with all the amenities, color TV, and Wifi. They have a great room, for all guests to enjoy with a giant fireplace for those cold winter nights ,and not one, but two pianos for those that enjoy some music. They are dog friendly but do have some common sense rules that need to be followed. Strawberry Creek flows through their property and can be found easily with a short walk down a trail. There is a deck and seating bench so you can sit and listen to the water flow by. Squirrels and Blue Jays are regular visitors and be sure to take some time to sit by the Koi Pond. There are several beautiful Koi leisurely swimming. Watching them swim is a great way to lower your blood pressure, I highly recommend it for us stressed out city dwellers. Only one thing I should mention on the negative side is if you are like us [Senior citizens ]. There are rather steep stairs going down to the entry door and back up again, so every trip to the car will be a workout for knees. Be sure to hold the hand rail that is provided. Olivia, in the front office, was so nice and accommodating and even took a picture of our Chihuahua to send to her mother. Olivia, Pancho says Hi and hopes your mom liked his picture. This is a long overdue review. I planned a short little getaway trip for my wife & I earlier this year in January. We got lucky in that the 2 days we were there just happened right after one of the biggest storms they've had in awhile. So the mountain got dumped on with tons of beautiful snow! The location of Silver Pines is perfect, it's right in town just off the 243 equidistant between N. & S. Circle. You'll be plenty close to almost everything in town including most of the best restaurants. Cafe Aroma is too far to walk to but you're right by Gastrognome or "The Gnome" which is our favorite restaurant in Idyllwild and Fratello's which has fantastic Italian. Anyways on to the lodge. Check in was super easy. Chris the owner is a wonderful host. The dogs were milling about and they were super sweet and friendly. I've noticed some other reviews complained about that and I think it's ridiculous. We loved seeing them.I also had forgotten my snow gloves and Chris let me borrow some from the stash that they had inside the lodge which was very nice of her. We booked the "Cedar" room and it was perfect for us. The room was well appointed and cozy, especially for the price and we loved it. There was even a porch swing right outside which my wife loved. Anytime we're in Idyllwild we will definitely stay at Silver Pines Lodge again! read more

The cabins are a good deal, but this weekend something happened to change my opinion of the facility. While we were playing in the creek behind the cabins, the facility owner's dog charged at my kindergartener. Hackles up, growling, barking, the whole deal. When I told the owner about it, she told me the dog only goes after people when the dog can "sense fear" . This excuse was pretty nuts since we have dogs (so the kids are not afraid of dogs) and we didn't even know the dog was there until after he starting running at us. It did get scary when the dog didn't stop on its own. Another person grabbed the dog about three feet from me as I was scooping up my kid. She then proceeded to tell me she doesn't want to give the dog up up but feels she might have to since, although he's never bit anyone, he keeps going after people. As soon as I walked out, she started telling another customer who had walked in behind me that the dog charged because he could tell we were afraid. Ugh! read more

JUST spent the weekend here with the fiance and LOVED it. The main lodge, our quaint cabin, and the homey decor was all so PERFECT! The King size bed covered in foe bear fur, the gas fireplace atop brick complete with a brick backdrop, the French doors leading out to our personal patio made it spectacular as well! Not to mention that we were within walking distance of downtown: local baq-b-q, cafes, jerky shops, candle and soap shops, wine tasting, beer tasting, beer gardens, and live music!! Lastly, the lodge staff made everything so easy! They provided us with everything we needed and then some! Bottom line is we CANNOT wait to plan our next trip!! read more

Beautiful facility. Couple things really rub me the wrong way. I get that idyllwild is dog friendly. This place is no exception. However dog friendly does not mean the owners dog gets to roam free and terrorize customers' fur babies who are safely leashed. This yellow lab was friendly to me while I entered the lodge witht a dog, but it was clear it was his territory and we were outsiders rather than guests at an inn. The lady at the desk was unfriendly and condescending. Did not seem happy that I was born and ended up grown up wanting to give this establishment money in exchange for a place to spend the night. I dont think she is the owner. Im reading a lot on other reviews about how nice the owner is and im pretty sure this is a different person. I'll go down the hill for the small town charm hemet has to offer if thats the kind of welcomeness This establishment has. If you can avoid the face to face unpleasantness I experienced, maybe this is a nice place to stay. read more

My husband were looking for a quick get away in the mountain. We wanted someplace reasonable/rustic and close to town. The Owner: Chris the owner was super helpful on the phone, and booked us in a little cabin with a view. She even went as far to say call the day before and if noone books the room we could check in early, how early like 11:00am! The Room: The Owls Nest, we had our own private deck and view of Strawberry Creek. There are a couple of Owl decorations, just enough from a thrift store. Coffee for the coffee maker in the fridge-and it was good for us -we drink only Peets coffee. The kitchen was well appointed we only made breakfast in there but you could easily make a simple dinner. The TV was sweet and we helped ourselves to a DVD in the Lodge. Bring shampoo or ask for it at the desk. The Place: Location: Its literally 2 blocks to town. The lodge is historic, the original movie theatre and one of the oldest buildings. The Koi pond is nicely done and we left our windows open all night long to hear the babbling waterfalls. The view of the creek is awesome and they put a little deck with a picnic table down there- a great place for morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The cabins are old from the 1890's-1920's we were on the top level so if you want a "romantic evening" think of your neighbors...which didn't bother us we hiked for 14 miles that day. Lastly: dogs! We did not bring ours, but there were about 6 there when we stayed there and they were all so happy and well behaved never heard one bark! We will be back! read more

I can't believe how long it has taken me to get around to leaving a review! Silver Pines has become a very special place to my husband I over the years. We've had magical escapes there many times ... and it was the spot he chose to propose to me (right behind the Inn on Strawberry Creek). We've even spent a fantastic Christmas there--and Chris, the owner, is a wonderful host. She does a big meal for the guests in the main lodge and invites locals with nowhere to go. I can't begin to explain how special that Christmas memory remains. It's rustic, so this isn't where you go to have a luxurious hotel experience. This is the kind of place you go to get away from the wired world ... to cut off your phone, read a book, sip coffee on the porch and reconnect with the beauty of nature. Silver Pines is a rare gem in that it allows you to bring your dogs. Our dogs have come to LOVE visiting as they are city dogs and its a rare joy to get to run around in the woods. The main lodge still has wireless internet, though, if you are in need and you are mere steps away from the adorable center of town where you can eat at a number of restaurants or see a movie at the charming little theater. The bottom line is that it is a wonderful escape and a place that even those on a modest budget can go and have a lovely experience. It's a place you won't forget and will likely long to return to many times over. read more

Established in 1923.

Built in 1923 to construct rustic furniture, it later added a Tavern where General George Patton hung out. After a stint as a Tavern, it became the town's first movie Theater, the Rustic Theater in 1944 - 1952. When the theater moved to the center of town in 1952, it became an Inn, The Hillbilly Lodge". A few years later it was renamed "Silver Pines Lodge".

It was clean and presentable. The queen size bed did not work well for us. We were pretty cramped and the bed wasn't the most comfortable. I wish that I had brought my pillows from home, but decided against it before we hit the road. I would recommend for a weekend getaway. Idyllwild is a beautiful place and although we weren't the most comfortable for two nights, we still had a great time.

If we ever visit Idyllwild again, we will be booking another reservation at The Creekstone!

Within 5 minutes of arriving to our room, someone came to inform us that our son wasn't welcome because children under the age of 12 are prohibited. He also informed us that he would be charging us an additional $50 and that if there were any noise complaints, he would bring them to our attention immediately. First off, nowhere when booking does this hotel specify that children are prohibited. It's not clear unless you go to their policies page that it indicates children are 'discouraged'. Do you know why? Because the walls are paper thin. Our child was silent and asleep by 7:30pm but we could hear everything the adults next door were saying and watching on the TV (at reasonable volumes, mind you). And to top it all off, Google says this IS a kid-friendly hotel. Second, should you need anything, you can't get ahold of anyone. There is no front desk and you don't have any service so you can't call anyone or send a text through their SMS service. So I hope you don't need an extra towel or Kleenex because no one will be available to assist you. Except the guy who magically appears to charge you $50 and then is nowhere to be found. It's really too bad that such a nice hotel has such crappy service and is so unkind to families. They forget that parents are regular people too who enjoy get aways without kids and have plenty of parent friends who they will be informing to skip the Creekstone Inn and stay somewhere else.

It was a little difficult for me to get any sleep the first night because of the smoke smell. But airing it out the next day (and a 10mile hike) helped! AS IDYLLWILD STARTER SPOT = 5-stars! If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn.

The singing and dancing was informative and fun to watch, really added to the whole festive night atmosphere. Although not Hawaiian, I especially liked the attractive llama that was hanging out for kids to meet. We enjoyed this fun local event while visiting Idlewild and would not hesitate to visit the third annual event next year!

Absolutely horrible. I had a bunch of drunk idiots outside my room screaming and laughing for hours. When I finally had enough I called the front desk to complain. The woman seemed very put out that I asked if she could address the noise. I asked for a refund which was denied. I informed the woman that I would initiate a chargeback with my bank and her tone changed quickly. After several calls she stopped answering the phone. I left a message saying I was packing up, checking out, and would proceed with the chargeback. Moments later as I was naked in the bathroom getting ready to leave a man burst into my room and assaulted me. He seemed like he was on drugs. He accussed me of making the drunk people up and taking advantage of the hotel. He insisted I leave immediately. He swore at me repeatedly and made physical contact with me several times. I had to push him off me in order to gather my things and leave. I literally slept outside in a park that night. I recieved no refund. I will be filing suit in district court as soon as I can get to Riverside. Stay away. These people are violent and psychotic. read more

Our first stay at Silver Pines Lodge in Idyllwild was absolutely perfect! From the moment we arrived, Jo at the front desk was incredibly polite, accommodating, and welcoming. What was originally booked as a stay for four people turned into six people plus our Chihuahua, and she handled the changes without any issues. That level of hospitality truly impressed us. The room was surprisingly spacious and comfortable for our group. One of my favorite parts was the private outdoor patio, where I enjoyed relaxing and feeding the beautiful bluebirds in the woods each morning. It made the experience feel peaceful and special. The location couldn't have been better. It was within walking distance of town, so we never had to get back in the car to explore the shops and restaurants. Everything was conveniently close. Silver Pines Lodge exceeded our expectations in every way. Between the outstanding customer service, comfortable accommodations, pet-friendly atmosphere, and perfect location, I can't wait to come back. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Idyllwild! read more

I found Silver Pines Lodge by fluke and, boy, I'm SO happy I did. The Lodge is a rustic, homely and very friendly place. Chrissy the owner and Dawn went out of their way to make me feel right at home. In fact, so much so I have now been back 3 times. There is a big room with a fire and mountain treasures to lounge in, with a piano too. Ooh, and free wifi. The Lodge is super close to the village and the much raved about Cafe Aroma and Natures Market, the friendliest health food store in the world (probably!) I'm a world traveler and meet an abundance of good people and Idllywild is ram, jammed full of them! I did want to keep this place my secret but I guess it's good to share! read more

I did not love this place. It's very old and needs to be updated. I immediately canceled my room and the owner was not accommodating at all. He only cares about his commission. read more
