I can't believe how long it has taken me to get around to leaving a review! Silver Pines has become a very special place to my husband I over the years. We've had magical escapes there many times ... and it was the spot he chose to propose to me (right behind the Inn on Strawberry Creek). We've even spent a fantastic Christmas there--and Chris, the owner, is a wonderful host. She does a big meal for the guests in the main lodge and invites locals with nowhere to go. I can't begin to explain how special that Christmas memory remains. It's rustic, so this isn't where you go to have a luxurious hotel experience. This is the kind of place you go to get away from the wired world ... to cut off your phone, read a book, sip coffee on the porch and reconnect with the beauty of nature. Silver Pines is a rare gem in that it allows you to bring your dogs. Our dogs have come to LOVE visiting as they are city dogs and its a rare joy to get to run around in the woods. The main lodge still has wireless internet, though, if you are in need and you are mere steps away from the adorable center of town where you can eat at a number of restaurants or see a movie at the charming little theater. The bottom line is that it is a wonderful escape and a place that even those on a modest budget can go and have a lovely experience. Lovely location. Fantastic people and they truly WELCOME dogs. Room was a good value...even changed it for me when prior guest in room booked had reported trouble with TV. It was Sunday so too late to assure it would work. VERY ACCOMODATING. Only suggestion would be to realize that in winter patio dining is difficult so perhaps they could keep large lodge room open later than 7 maybe 8 or 9? This place is lovely. We stayed here from Tuesday through Friday during January (their off-season) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We booked the Owl's Nest and it was very quaint. The room is small but we didn't really need much. They have a full kitchen and a full bathroom (with one of those awesome electric wall heaters). It was very comfortable. The little deck outside the room over looks the little koi pond. Or you can turn the chairs around and face nature. They're pet friendly and only charged $10 for the whole stay for having a dog. I loved being able to lounge around in bed watching television with the door open. Open the door and the windows, there's a great breeze that comes through. It's a great distance from town. I walked my dog every morning through the town and it took maybe 20 minutes to get there (and that's with him sniffing and everything!). You could also take a drive up the mountain some more to the great restaurants that they've got. My only thing is I think they were a little pricey. I think they should lower their prices during the off-season so that people would be more inclined to going there. However we did get a percentage off because we stayed for two nights or more. I thought that was nice but it was still a bit expensive (in my opinion). Oh and the television could have been a liiiiittle bigger. It was really quite small and the wires didn't allow it to swivel all the way. Don't expect something luxurious. This place isn't about that. For us it was about relaxing and recharging our batteries and just taking it slow. We were totally able to do that and for that I am grateful =) We've already decided that if we're able to financially, we want to make this a place we return to every year. (Oh, if you're having trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi, just crack open your door a bit). read more

Nice enough place overall, and a decent price. However, the gas heater in the room was ridiculously difficult to operate and adjust. After two nights there, I still couldn't figure it out. Called the lodge for help with it, and the owner came over quickly, but she didn't know how to work it either. Also, the sheets were a bit starchy, the shower is cramped, and the bathroom sink has two separate faucets, so you get either hot or cold water. And there was no desk of any type in our room, so if you want to set up a computer or whatever, you're out of luck. Other than that, it's alright. read more

OK, we were not able to stay here. Maybe the moral of this story is DON'T BOOK ON LINE FOR A HOLIDAY WEEKEND My wife made reservations for the MLK weekend to arrive Saturday. As we were driving up got a call informing us that the cabin we were to stay in was now unavailable because the pipes froze. Aren't they used to freezing temps? I suspect they either don't keep track of reservations coming in from on-line or just had guests that wanted to extend their stay over the weekend. Either way beware. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Bears Den for the weekend and it was lovely. The bed was comfortable and our little room had a fireplace and deck with the best view of the creek. The service was top notch! We loved that we could walk everywhere in town and also suggest spending some time relaxing in the lodge by the fireplace. I will start this by saying we truly enjoyed the location and look-and-feel of the Foley cabin. That said, if you are going to book it there are some things they don't tell you. 1) There is only one "bedroom" with heat, and it's what we called the bunkhouse room because it had 4 full beds in one large room. It's a good thing we were good friends with the people we traveled with because it's where we all ended up sleeping. 2) The only full bathroom is downstairs and doesn't have any heat. There is a small wall heater that blows both hot and cold at the same time so the room never heats. We complained and were given a small portable space heater that barely worked. 3) The kitchen doesn't have any heat either and no matter what we did it only was "tolerable" to be in for a few mins at a time. We laughed that the food in the fridge was warmer than what was on the counter! It was disappointing that when we complained the staff just laughed it off saying "it was 23-degrees last night." I get we are in the mountains and it's winter, but we shouldn't have to FREEZE or share a bedroom because of lack of working heat (2 other bedrooms had heaters, but they weren't working). The main room is great and there is an ample space heater that keeps it warm and cozy. If you're looking for a place to stay in the winter, I would skip this cabin; I am sure it's wonderful in the summer though. read more

What a gift to have found this gem! We didn't want to leave this place. Peaceful, beautiful energy, intimidate, romantic, cozy. Surrounded by the astounding woods, sounds of the variety of birds, and huge frog from the pond kept us company. I loved staying here. The wood walls, fireplace, pointed ceilings were so cozy and woodsy. The faucet water is fresh spring water. The view from the rooms were scenic and you can hear the sound of the creek outside the cabin. Check in was super easy. Parking in front of the cabin. They were friendly ready to answer any questions. It was a short walk to town. The price was perfect for a group of five including kids. The set up was perfect for a family bonding, relaxing, memory creating adventure. read more

Had a great time here. The owner is super friendly and the whole place is VERY dog-friendly. (PS to the person who talked about the "scary dog" the owner has: if you found Sully scary, stay away from that nasty bunny rabbit exhibit at the zoo!) The cabin we stayed in was cozy and rustic. It's not meant to be the Ritz, but it's perfectly adorable and we got to meet a bunch of really nice people staying there as well. There are loads of DVDs to watch and a nice central room with Internet. The wireless worked perfectly in our rooms, as did the TV and the air conditioning (we came back hot from a hike and availed ourselves of it -- although even in August, you really don't need it much). I was vacationing in Idyllwild, so I picked up a map and decided to walk around and look at all the places I could stay for the night. I tried going to the Silver Pines Lodge, but before I could get to the front door, a big dog came charging at me, barking and growling. A few moments later the owner/manager/whoever called off the dog. She seemed totally unconcerned that this whole thing had happened, saying that her dog enjoys "being scary". When I told her she should put the dog on a leash, she said absolutely nothing -- not even an apology -- and just turned and walked away. I can't rate their rooms because even though I tried to check out the services at the Silver Pines Lodge, I couldn't get through the front door! I would be cautious if you're afraid of dogs, have small children, or just don't like being charged by big, angry dogs! read more

Such a predictably wonderful, relaxing, calming experience, my wife and I cannot praise Chris and her staff enough for their kindness, and caring attitude! We stayed at the Silver pines lodge for the third time this weekend, the two year anniversary of our marriage, which was at the lodge. Chris and her staff could not have been more accommodating, they opened their hearth, heart, and home to our families and friends, providing lifelong memories of our special day, & weekend long celebration. Very reasonable rates, and a wonderful atmosphere ideal for adults hoping to get away to be calm an relaxed for a weekend or more. If you want the Marriott, don't come here, you'll ruin it for the rest of us who are prepared to enjoy an individual and her beautiful, & peaceful property, with calming running waters, Koi pond, position near strawberry creek. Rooms are generou and comfortable with a feeling of history that you cannot have elsewhere. For the discerning visitor, not for your average fast food nation. read more

Not sure I have a reason for only four stars instead of five. I think I'm just stingy with stars! Stayed here for five nights in The Cottage. All the amenities - refrigerator and stocked kitchen utensils. Good WiFi reception. Quiet at night (some neighborhood dogs bark,, but I think their owners take them inside after 9 PM or so). Nice TVs with many channels. Chris (Kris?) at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. I stayed midweek and it was very reasonably priced. I'll be back (sorry Ahnold) read more

This is a great place to stay. The staff was very polite, friendly and just down right cool!! Stayed for two nights, though had booked for only one night, had a change of plans and they were very accommodating to our change. Will definitely go back. Rooms have cable TV, fireplace, free dvd rental and if you forget a jacket, scarf or gloves they have extras for you to wear. Can't say enough! Just a very awesome place to stay. read more

I am giving this place 5 stars because the owner and the people who work here are sweeter than molasses! The lodge is perfectly charming along with the beautiful koi pond and the creek that runs below. The room (which they said was their worst) was very comfortable. Okay, it wasn't fancy, but this is an historic lodge and this was the "worse" room they had. The bed was perfect. We will be booking this place always and forever. And dogs are welcome, but you can't smell that there have been any there. Sully is the Lodge mascot and will welcome you. read more

We are in the Nelson cabin and it is a lovely place. We came with our daughter who got her own bedroom and bathroom and our little dog who got a huge fenced off area to explore. The cabin is elegant and comfortable (nothing kitschy) and includes a lot of things we didn't expect (dishes, glasses, wine glasses, pots, pans, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer). The office has tons of movies you can check out for free so we enjoyed that last night. There is a patio which is a great place to have dinner and wine while enjoying the view of the woods. The walk to town is beautiful and there are some nice places to eat and charming places to shop. I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else on my next visit (and we definitely will be back). read more

We have stayed in a handful of the private cabins that are available for rental. We have a couple that we consistently booked and maybe one that was not at all what we were looking for, but all in all, we are always pleased with our stay. The front desk is always friendly and helpful. The cabins that we book are pup friendly which is important to us because we love to bring our fur babies to the mountains with us. We have yet to stay in the lodge or village but are so happy booking the private cabins we're going to stick with it! read more

Our stay here was nice but our room (I won't mention which one) didn't actually lock. You could lock and close the door but all it took was a little push and the door popped right open... That was a little scary. I loved that there was a journal in the room for everyone to write about their stay. Some of the entries were hilarious!!! The pond was beautiful. read more

Very cozy room with gas fireplace (connected to thermostat so that it comes on at all hours which turned out to be pretty cool), microwave, refrigerator. Newly renovated with amazing design and execution. Bubbler fountains all around, beautiful woodwork, gazebo, benches for outside seating... Our room (#22) was very romantic - no complaints. Chris, the owner/operator, was just too good to us. And the prices... well she knows that they are WAY too low. Her attitude? She wants "the regular ol' family" to be able to enjoy their stay. We are DEFINITELY coming back not only for more romantic getaways, but to also bring the kids, too. read more

My sis and I made a quick trip on a Monday night, booked the room thru booking.com. when we arrived the gal at front desk asked us if we wanted her talk on why you don't use any booking site but always call the inn direct... She was trying to be nice but I felt like I had gotten caught doing something wrong in school. She complained how they had to pay hooking.com a fee so they only "let" them have 2 rooms for the booking.com site, then she said she can move those reservations anywhere in the lodge she wants, in essence the people have no clue what they will actually be getting. She said she would look to see what she had available as if the the entire lodge was full. We were given a room in the village a recently renovated group of rooms down from the lodge. In the 10 or so rooms there were only 2 others occupied besides us.... The room we were given (15) was not very private you had to have the window blinds closed or you were in a fish bowl and the porch shared with another room entrance so if that room had been occupied it would have been awkward. The grounds at the village are well kept and well thought out, it's just too bad the detail they have on the outside don't extend to the inside, our tub was leaking hot water we had to close the door so we didn't hear it at night, they clearly need a bit more thorough cleaning.. attention to detail. Bottom line..if the gal had taken a bit more time with us on the room to find out what we had as options and clearly the place had several rooms that would have been better for us, we would be back, we would over look the little other items about the room that were less than expected. All she wanted was to chastice us for our way of booking the room instead of making sure our stay was the best it could be. She was upset they had to pay a booking fee for a room that they clearly would have had sit empty on a Monday night.. Next time we book a room for this cute little town it will be direct with the place of business but it won't be here. read more

There are a few places in the world that you go to and then YOU NEVER want to go home. Silver Pines Lodge is one of those! I have been home for 8 hours and I am still trying to come up with a business idea to move back and stay! Owners Chris & Steve are just simply the BEST! The room I stayed in was ultra clean with personal touches I loved including a room book with cool little notes from previous guests so cool. The furniture is rustic but modern and everything worked! It is nothing fancy and my internet was pretty much non existent but then again if your looking for fancy or lots of time on your phone or laptop then this isnt the place for you anyway. IF you are looking for a cozy, clean, romantic, drama free , walk to everything including some fabulous restaurants, antique stores and great nature trails type of experience with genuine , honest and caring people then go there now!! You wont be sorry... Now about that idea!! read more

We stayed one night in the Ponderosa cabin, it was very comfortable and clean, we enjoyed the jet tub and the deck was very nice to sit and relax on. The only drawback was the outside lights were a little bright and the room has a couple of high windows that have no covering. Otherwise it was a short walk to town and restaurants which was great and the room was nice and quiet. read more

We spent 2 nights at the Silver Pines Village in February. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and very helpful. It was easy walking distance to town and since we had our dog with us, we did a lot of walking and hiking. Many of the restaurants and shops in Idyllwild are also pet friendly. There was a lot of melting snow all around us and the creek behind the Silver Pines Lodge was full and moving fast. We had a very enjoyable time and highly recommend Silver Pines Lodge/Village when visiting Idyllwild. read more

We stayed in the Village for a long weekend this past September. The price was pretty reasonable, if you are looking for homey, comfortable, casual rather than upscale and high-class. On the plus side, the number of rooms in the village was just right to not feel completely isolated from others, but quiet enough that we could relax and enjoy ourselves. Didn't have to wait in line to cook our steaks on the grill! The staff we encountered were polite and friendly. Our room had a set of dishes, silverware, coffee cups and grilling utensils even though that was not indicated when we searched the features of each individual room. The front desk has a list of suggested events to attend and information about hiking. there was also a book in our room with info on the shops and places to eat. As this was our first visit to Idyllwild this info was much appreciated. We met a couple that comes a couple of times a year, especially just for their Christmas party, which shows me they treat their patrons right. The location itself is excellent-you can walk to numerous shops and restaurants and it's a short drive to a variety of places to hike. The only things that needed improvement were the freezer portion of our mini fridge was covered in ice, and the bathtub seemed as though there was cleaning product that wasn't rinsed out all the way. Those minor mis-steps were nothing compared to the wonderful visit we had. We look forward to returning when there is snow. read more

BED BUGS have taken up residency at these bungalows. Upon our late arrival we pulled back the comforter and sheets and to our utmost surprise there it was along with masses of bed bug feces, yellow bed bug sheddings and red blood stains. Upon further inspection we found EVEN MORE under the sheets on the mattress cover and mattress itself. We are beyond disgusted as this lodge looks deceivingly beautiful from the outside. To make matters worse, when we informed the front desk they were not only rude but confrontational and try to intimidate us. We understand that with lodging these things happen, no one is at fault but the amount of disrespect and flat out vulgarity of these people running this business was astonishing. They even refused to come and look at the room and argued a refund till another couple came into the office and they wanted us out of there to avoid other customers to overhear the conversation. Do not stay here unless you want to bring these gross bugs home with you that are impossible to rid of... read more

Funny that this profile shows, "children welcome". Um, no. I stopped in to check on availability and was turned away because I had a child, age 1 year. I was told by the woman at the desk, verbatim, " I do have vacancy, but I refuse to put a baby in a room with a shared wall". Anyone with a family - RUN! Head ANYWHERE ELSE!! So sad, for such a family friendly town, this place treated me like I had the plague - or worse, a child. They accept dogs, but not 1 year old children. I'll be more than happy to spend my money ANYWHERE else in Idyllwild! We ended up at the Fern Valley Inn, and it was AMAZING! Great place, super nice guy and owner by the name of Gary at the front desk. Great rates too - go there instead. read more

We stayed 2 nights in the Village (#17) and enjoyed our stay. Our room was rustic yet comfortable. The bathroom was small and only had a shower stall but this was disclosed in the room description on their website so it wasn't a big deal for us. I would stay in the Village again (they are newer than the rooms at the Lodge) but would select a different room. Here is why I'm only giving a four star rating - - There is a room above (#18) which again was disclosed on their website. However, every time the upstairs guests took a step, their floors creaked and we can hear every creak in our room. It made it really difficult to sleep as the upstairs guests came back to their room late at night and seemed to be awake at all hours. - There was a closet with a closet rod but no hangers for our clothes. - They provide bar soap but no shampoo. We called the front desk and they told us they don't stock shampoo but they did bring us a couple of travel shampoos so that was nice. - the bathroom is showing wear and tear. Also, there are 2 separate faucets in the bathroom sink for cold water and hot water. You cannot get warm water from a single spout. The only time I've ever seen this was in a hotel in London built over 100 years ago. But these rooms were built in 2014 so not sure why the piping was done that way?? Overall the Village offers comfortable accommodations and is walking distance to everything in town. I just wished I picked a different room. read more

Great location and very charming place...the positive points are: friendly staff, convenient location, comfortable bed and location of room kind of makes you feel like you are in a tree house. I loved that it had a frig, microwave, TV, silverware and kitchenware. Good price for the location. However, there were some negatives that I need to mention. I was located in #18 which is in the way back and a little hard to find at first. I was surprised there were no hangers in the very small area to hang clothes. There was a constant drip from the showerhead (which didn't provide much water for a shower), that was a little annoying to hear all night. The cold water handle in the bathroom sink would not turn on so I had to use only hot water (not too good for brushing teeth and rinsing your mouth). There were no tissues provided so be sure to bring your own. The pocket door separating room/bathroom would not work...off track and very heavy. Also, no alarm clock or any clock in the room. For the price I paid, I felt the above negative points should not have been an issue. read more
