I have been coming to Silver Pond for 2 decades. Usually for celebrations and holidays but I definitely see some recent changes for more of a daily dine in. To start, they have started providing dimsum on the weekends. When they first started doing dimsum, they had push carts. On my last visit, I didn't see any push carts. Not sure if it was due to the amount of people dining or if they had removed this. I think their Cantonese / Chinese food is amazing. Makes me feel like I'm in a Chinatown. The menu is setup for family style sharing. I personally enjoy the sizzling steak, shrimp with mayonnaise sauce, and pan fried noodles. They are one of the few Chinese restaurants in South Florida that offer roasted duck. They usually do a killer job with a crispy skin on the duck. This last visit wasn't up to our expectations but our server kindly took it to the back and gave us another. I think service has also greatly improved recently. Their staff is attentive and will change out your plates for a clean plate mid-meal. It's a bit of a drive for my family, but we'll do it for the food here. read more

I've been coming to Silver Pond for several years for birthdays, Chinese New Year celebration and regular dinners. Food was pretty decent New York Chinatown Cantonese dishes. With an ownership change and addition of dim sum, we had to try. We arrived Sunday at 11 am when it opened. It was pleasantly uncrowded, and restrooms were clean. It was nearly full by noon. There are no dim sum cart ladies. You order from a sheet (no pictures), so hopefully you have an inkling of what "beef stomach" and "chicken feet" are as well as a slew of other items. Unfortunately congee and desserts were all crossed off. We were happy to discover that the dim sum was very good! After going to practically every dim sum restaurant in Greater Fort Lauderdale, this was the freshest and tastiest, and not oily. The dishes come out as the chefs prepare, in no particular order. The food is steaming hot. A few unusual (for FL) dim sum included Crispy Taro Cake which had more than just taro (we all liked the dish), and the Chiu Chow Dumplings which were plump full of tasty minced ingredients. We ordered Chinese Broccoli with garlic, and Salt & Pepper Calamari off the main menu. The calamari was delicious! The waiter who has been there for years was typical no nonsense and efficient. Shockingly for a Chinese/dim sum place, the waitress actually smiled and was friendly. She even gladly took photos for us with our phones! We will be back to try more dim sum and maybe see if their dinners are as good as lunch. read more

Went to Silver Pond to have some dim sum with friends. Since this was my first time, I did not know what to expect. So, there are no carts running around with the dim sum. There's a dim sum menu and you choose what you want and they will bring it to your table, I am assuming, they made it to order, since we waited a bit for the different foods. There were two waiters helping all tables and they were not overly friendly. They also brought a teapot, not asking first, which type of tea we wanted...We got jasmine tea. This is my feedback on what we got: - Shrimp dumplings (har gao). Nice thin wrapper, not a lot of flavor. Shrimp did not taste like much at all. 7/10 - Pork dumplings (Siu Mai). Tasted bland, not very flavorful. 6/10 - BBQ pork bun (Char siu bao). Nice soft bun but with very little pork filling. 8/10 - Ginger chicken bao. Soft bun, but almost no chicken inside 7/10 - Pan fried turnip cake. Good tasting. Very oily. 8/10 - Shrimp with eggplant. Nice tasting dish. 9/10 - Sticky rice in lotus leaves. This Chinese tamale dish came as two small ones instead of a large one. It had Chinese sausage and pork inside. Rice was nice and sticky. 9/10 - Steamed sponge cake. Not like other places, brown instead of yellow. A bit denser than others. 7/10 Overall not a bad dim sum place, but not like one that you would find in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco or Chicago. I have been going there for many years. it changed hands and we were so disappointed in the food and the service. nothing was the same and we were totally unhappy. We did not recieve all the food we ordered and tried to charge us. What a shame we had our family in from California 17 of us. Restrooms were very dirty. we had to ask for tea and water . My family took me here claiming it was one of the best dim sum places, but quite honestly coming from LA I would rate this as sub-par. The dough part of the soup dumplings could've been more on the delicate side, and the rest of the food tasted oily. For over two decades, my family frequented this restaurant, but I stopped attending due to declining cleanliness. On my last visit, we found a medium-sized roach in our soup, . Despite receiving a replacement bowl from the server, it was pretty obvious that the entire batch from the kitchen was compromised due to the original bowl being scooped from it. Reluctantly, we returned today at the insistence of a family member, only to discover a sizable fly cooked into our food, reflecting further degradation in quality. With a group of 9 single ladies we went last week. The atmosphere is beautiful, the food was once known to be top notch. The servers are kind and helpful. The food is rather bland. We had Corn soup which tasted like Egg Drop Soup, no corn flavor. Ribs, the seasoning was good but the meat a bit tough. Beef Stir fry was the best in flavor. Chicken with crispy noodles bland. Seafood dish looked beautiful but had no flavor at all. They refuse to do separate checks ... but if we came in and sat at separate tables they would. Starting the morning with some dimsum! This place has one of the best shu mai's I've ever had! The size was pretty big compared to other traditional places and pork/shrimp ratio was great. We've also had short ribs, chicken feet, crispy shrimp ball, sticky rice in lotus leaves, and variations of dumplings. All of these were tasty and not overly oily/salty. One thing I didn't like was the Shrimp rice noodle rolls (aka shrimp crepes) the skin was pretty thick. Now if you care of the interior and sanitary of the restaurant... the place is older and the bathroom is dirty. First, their food is amazingly delicious...it is phenomenal. If that was the only criteria the Silver Pond would get a solid five stars. But there is more. If you carpet the floor, it comes with the expectation that it will be cleaned occasionally..it appears this is not the case and merely serves to take your attention away from the dirty windows. The carpet is old, dirty and threadbare. The bathroom is equally dirty and, it must be said, the kitchen cannot be the only place in this establishment to be clean. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. The service is terrible. The waiters are next to useless. The drinks only arrived because we were insistent...and as far as my wife goes, the sake became one in six (they didn't have five of them) and was cheap horse swill. The table was only cleaned after we complained (I had desert with filthy plates all over the table) and it was awful generally, but the food was good. But there are many restaurants with good food and good service, therefore, we won't be back. read more

GOOD NEWS! One of the Chefs at Gold Marques Chinese Restaurant in Pembroke Pines (a really excellent place that we have been to) bought out the Silver Pond Restaurant. Excellent food we went there tonight! They are also going to be starting DIM SUM in the near future for lunch!! If the service here is as good as it at the Grand Marques then folks I think We can all look forward to many more good years of fine Chinese dining. I started eating at Silver Pond back in 1993. Had hundreds of meals there. Knew the original owner. It sold pre covid and original chefs left. Wasnt the same quality after that. Decided to give it another try. The food was actually good. Will come back. read more

I've been twice in a week to this place, and it is the best Chinese food I've had in South Florida. The winter melon and shrimp soup is light, piping hot and a delicious departure from the typical egg drop, wonton or hot and sour soups served elsewhere. The salt and pepper shrimp are flat out the best fried shrimp I've ever tasted, and I'm nearing an age made famous in a Beatles song. The sweet and pungent pork was a complex dish with pickled vegetables as well as the named ingredients. It actual had tart flavors and was, again, the best I've had and not the usual too sweet mess served at many others. Beef chow fun was tender beef, large yummy noodles, and very good. On the earlier visit the lobster silver pond and seafood rolls were good, as was the special fried rice. The bill was ridiculously low, at $20.81 a person. Silver Pond lives up to its legendary hype! This was my first time here and I've heard many rave reviews! We finallllly made it. We ordered Hong Kong duck, sizzling beef with black pepper, shredded chicken pan fried noodles and shrimp fried rice. The restaurant inside is somewhat old fashioned and there's lots of customers always. Someone told me awhile ago, who is asian, that this is the best restaurant. We ordered the duck and hong kong chicken. I thought it was going to be like fast food Chinese takeout but it was actually sliced meat. The food was decent but overpriced. The ambiance was great, it was quiet with just a few patrons having their meals. My server was pleasant. We didn't dine in - we placed a take out order, my daughter was trying to find someone who made hamchoy pork (we used to have it back home in Jamaica so was hoping it was close) but their attempt was to put roasted pork with the steamed mustard greens. It missed the mark in expectation but it's ok - just won't be doing that again. My nephew also had the pork fried rice - it was ok, not greasy or soggy, just cooked right rice. Don't think we'll be back but they always say never say never. I love to take pictures of the food but I forgot and we didn't take any - it looked great in presentation. Firstly, let me say that I like this place. The dumplings in particular are excellent and the silver pond lobster ( the one with minced pork ) is very tasty. I would recommend ordering a little larger lobster if your budget allows because it's less likely to be dried out. I also enjoy the beef chow fun and the Peking pork chops. Although the pork chops are tasty, they are not the best cut of meat and as a result there is a lot of inedible parts to the dish. Perhaps better trimming in the kitchen would help. I travel almost 25 miles to eat here and have rarely been disappointed. You need to remember that this is more authentic food and not necessarily what many people think is Chinese food. read more

The word on the street (the Broward county Chinese community) was that Silver Pond has recently had a change of ownership and it is under new management; which it was to say that the previous restaurant had been an utter failure. It was with a glimpse of hope and enthusiasm we decided to give it a second chance and yet again it was proven to be wrong. Nothing was really changed: mediocre tastes, tired decor, inattentive services, limited selections, and all was over priced. Long gone was the glory days when Silver Pond once stood as the benchmark of quality Chinese restaurant in Broward, yet it decisively to exist only within its own vacuum and slowly decay into oblivion. read more

In a world of Chinese restaurants located in every other strip mall, all remarkable in their lack of uniqueness, this restaurant stands out like a five star because it is. This was a regular dining spot for us prior to the pandemic. We came today and discovered they are serving dim sum. Before I comment I would report that I lived 7 years in Hong Kong and my wife is Chinese. Well the Dim sum wasn't anywhere as good as their menu dishes. Paste too thick on shrimp in rice paste, pork tarp just not pleasant and worst of all the Shanghai dumpling's pastry was hard on top. On the plus side the pea shoots were delicious. My fav Chinese place in Fort Lauderdale. I always come here when I'm in town and they do everything so well. I often order the stirfry, lobster, snow, pea, chips, salty, fish, fried rice, and everything was so good. A Chinese friend of mine on the west coast introduced me to dim sum 30 years ago. Since then, I have eaten at dim sum restaurants from coast to coast, and the food at this one was the absolute worst I have ever had! I do a lot of home cooking from scratch, so I'm pretty good at identifying ingredients. I am 99% certain that there was no egg in the egg custard buns. I believe that the filling was water, cornstarch, sugar, and yellow food coloring. The rice in a lotus leaf was bland, as was the turnip pudding. The siu mai was made of shrimp instead of pork. Potstickers were not even on the menu nor were Chinese mustard greens. Custard tarts are only available on weekends. The steamed baus and custard buns were mostly dough and very short on other ingredients. Then there was the "misunderstanding" I had with the front desk guy, whom I called before going. He explained that they only served dim sum until 4 PM, but you were free to order it after that. If they had leftovers, it would be at the menu price. If they were out of an item, they would be glad to make it for you, but it would be one dollar more per item. When I got the bill, every item was one dollar more. In all fairness, I should have read the fine print at the bottom of the menu. Gotcha! This place was recommended to me by a local Asian friend of mine, who must have lost her taste buds somewhere along the line. I will never eat here again. They seem to have an attitude with the way you order your food, I understand it could be the language, but something they seem rude. Silver Pond is overall a solid Chinese restaurant! There is a good mix of authentic Chinese food and Americanized Chinese staples. I'd highly recommend the clay pot fish. It was extremely tasty. The portion sizes are fairly generous. I really enjoyed everything that I tried. Admittedly, the restaurant is a little bit more on the older side. It's located in a strip mall, so it's got plenty of parking. However, the plaza is pretty mundane, so don't expect anything trendy. The interior decor is typical Chinese restaurant. This is a good place to go with a larger group of people. There are large round tables that can accommodate around 8 to 9 people. There's a back private room too for events or larger gatherings. Fair warning, this place can get kind of busy, so make a reservation. read more
