    Peking Duck (whole)
    Ashley Y.

Fantastic and authentic Sichuan Chinese restaurant. My family is picky about their Chinese food but love this place and deemed it authentic. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive wait staff. Restaurant is decorated extremely well - almost like an Italian bistro inside, funny enough. Even their menus are beautiful printed photo books. Bonus, you can make reservations, which I do recommend on a weekend because it was very busy and there was a wait. The food was delicious. Peking duck was prepared beautifully but was less duck than I was expecting for a whole duck, plus it was $60. You have to pay for extra pancakes, but the vegetables and sauce could be replaced for free. The duck soup that accompanied the Peking duck was delicious and flavorful. Every dish I had was delicious. We had the string beans, eggplant, Westlake beef, soup, fried spicy chicken (so good, one of their famous dishes), cold spicy chicken, noodle dishes, fish dishes, home style tofu, pan fried dumplings. I honestly lost count. We ordered so much. The spice level is high with the Sichuan peppercorn. I heard you should skip the soup dumplings here (machine made?). Otherwise Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant!! I will be back when I crave this food.

We had several dishes and enjoyed them all. Dan Dan noodles were spicy and I liked the texture of the noodles. The dry pot fish was good - lots of vegetables included. Wonton soup used tender wonton skins and the soup base was flavorful. Tea smoked duck was a little salty but very flavorful. Had to ask for rice to go with the meal. Everything came out quickly and was fresh. Highly recommend.

Fish Filet with Sour Veggie in Soup

OF COURSE, I returned! This time, my wife and I ate in the restaurant which is vastly different than under the previous iteration (mediocre Vegetable Garden - vegetarian). It is wide open with some odd seating against the wall. The opposite wall is currently devoid of decoration. They could benefit from some kind of tapestries there to absorb noise. That said, I don't go to a restaurant for the ambience. I go for the food that was superb. The people who manage and operate the restaurant are very anxious to please and attend to diner desires and needs. We were told that the very authentic food is created by a chef actually from Szechuan (Sichuan) province. My wife ordered non-spicy Chicken with Mixed Veggies, but changed the brown sauce to a white garlic sauce. It was very well prepared with a wonderful assortment of veggies. NOT just American broccoli like too many local restaurants. I ordered Fish Filet with Sour Veggie SOUP. The portion served (in a tureen) was enormous. I would have ordered it without the soup base but I did not recognize it in the menu where it is called "Sauteed Fish Fillets in White Sauce," I think. Our waiter, a young man learning English, was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I do have one complaint: in MY opinion, Chinese restaurants should NOT charge extra for white rice. I know that this is a standard practice in other places, but not here. It bothers me.

The food was excellent! Tried the Salt and Pepper shrimp. It was so sweet, just the right amount of spice. The string beans were very tasty and perfectly cooked. Shredded pork in sweet bean sauce was tasty. The service was fast. Everything is à la carte including the rice. The ambiance was simple and clean. It had an upscale feel.

We live in Leisure World, near this restaurant (5 minutes away). We went on Night 2 of their soft opening. In my wife's and my opinion, this could become a hot restaurant destination. Some of the best Chinese we've had in the area. We had two wonderful dishes: Flounder Fish Filet in Sweet and Sour Sauce, and Beef and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce. They both tasted great, and were large portions at very reasonable prices. Actually, we had to take home some of both dishes. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Nice plates and serving bowls. The restaurant is still being decorated, but we can really tell it's going to be very pretty, and the staff are super friendly. For vegetarians there are 10 choices plus tofu dishes. One can do very spicy dishes (e.g., those with Szechuan Peppers). And they have more traditional Chinese dishes (including what they call American Chinese Cuisine). The menu includes half and whole Peking Ducks, 18 appetizers including 4 noodle dishes, noodle soups, and a number of exotic specialties. They also have a very reasonably priced lunch. In short, we eagerly look forward to going back

Came here for lunch with a friend on a weekend. We ate family style and ordered the scallion…read morepancakes, the spicy sesame paste tofu, the spicy oil wonton pork, the chive and pork dumplings and the sesame balls (filled with red bean paste). Total (not including tip) came out to approximately $49. What's Hot - Menu. Excellent. It's also written in Chinese in addition to English. For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.

None of us were from this area, and we intended to go to the Mayflower Chinese Restaurant, based on Yelp reviews. However, once we walked in the door, it was apparent this place was focused on carryout, and there was no way we were staying to eat in their dingy entrance area. We walked next door to the Meleket Ethiopian restaurant. However, the place was deserted, and we didn't stay there either. We tried the Lime & Cilantro, the next place down, but it was packed and couldn't handle our group. So, we skipped past the verernary clinic and went to Spring Garden. And, what a great choice that was. They offer a huge menu of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese meals. Everything is reasonably priced. Once we got our food, we were impressed with the quality and portion sizes. And, through it all, the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered Hot and Sour soup (my bellwether for Chinese restaurants) and beef chow fun. The soup was flavorful without being overpowering, and the chow fun was delicious too. I liked everything so much that I ordered another soup and Thai Basil with Chicken to go, and that's been my lunch for the past couple of days. Don't be put off by the seediness of its location. Spring Garden is a great place to grab some tasty, reasonably priced food, either to eat in or take away.
