My lovely wife and I visited the restaurant on Friday, May 8th for an early Mother's Day dinner. This was our second visit. We tried three new dishes: Special Lo-Mien, Sweet and Sour Ribs and Scallion Pancakes. All were very good. The Lo-Mien was much lighter than you get from one of the many take outs in the area. The pancakes were not heavy but rather light. The ribs were very tasty. However, I would not get the ribs again, as they are small pieces, as opposed to a whole rib. Why? Because when I but them in my mouth, a couple of times a small piece of bone would break off, which made it more difficult to eat. I understand that this is so that you don't need to hold them, a knife, etc. The waiter not only recognized us but also boxed and bagged our leftovers for us. Great job! read more

I came on a weekday for lunch and had a positive experience. The fried whole fish in spicy bean sauce was superb, and the stir-fried green beans with minced pork was solid. Peking duck was so-so, I've had better especially at the well known Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church, Virginia. But that place sets a very high bar for that delicacy. Service was alright, but it was a quiet weekday after 1 pm. Possibly not the best time to get a true sense of the quality of service. The tables, chairs and dining ware were definitely quality goods better than an average mid tier Chinese restaurant's, and the decor was bright and fairly aesthetically pleasing. There was one wall having paint job and/or wallpaper which may be inherited from the prior restaurant I suspect, and jt looks more Mediterranean than Chinese, making it feel a little strange. Maybe fusion East-West interior decoration is becoming a thing. Fantastic and authentic Sichuan Chinese restaurant. My family is picky about their Chinese food but love this place and deemed it authentic. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive wait staff. Restaurant is decorated extremely well - almost like an Italian bistro inside, funny enough. Even their menus are beautiful printed photo books. Bonus, you can make reservations, which I do recommend on a weekend because it was very busy and there was a wait. The food was delicious. Peking duck was prepared beautifully but was less duck than I was expecting for a whole duck, plus it was $60. You have to pay for extra pancakes, but the vegetables and sauce could be replaced for free. The duck soup that accompanied the Peking duck was delicious and flavorful. Every dish I had was delicious. We had the string beans, eggplant, Westlake beef, soup, fried spicy chicken (so good, one of their famous dishes), cold spicy chicken, noodle dishes, fish dishes, home style tofu, pan fried dumplings. I honestly lost count. We ordered so much. The spice level is high with the Sichuan peppercorn. I heard you should skip the soup dumplings here (machine made?). The orange chicken was dry and tasteless, made me think of breaded sawdust. The shrimp fried rice was bland. The beef with broccoli with simply inedible. Went here for the first time a few nights ago with family to celebrate my sister's birthday. I was a huge fan of their peaking duck and complimentary soup. A lot of their dishes are inspired by Northern China, so if you don't like spicy food, this probably isn't the best place for you. Service is really good. I had an excellent time with the waiting staff. They were incredibly attentive and checked on our table several times throughout the night. It's beautifully decorated in the restaurant but I would still consider it a semi-casual place to dine. Would definitely come again! read more

Tried this place out for the first time tonight & boy am I glad we did! The restaurant is brand new, beautifully decorated. All dinnerware were squeaky clean. Servers & the lady owner were super friendly and pleasant. From appetizers to entrees, every dishes we ordered were authentic and incredibly flavorful. The Kung Po chicken & Spicy red hot oil wonton were the best ones I ever tasted. I will order them all over again next time we come. In fact, we were planning a birthday dinner at another restaurant in Rockville next week. We love this place so much, we changed the venue to this place! OF COURSE, I returned! This time, my wife and I ate in the restaurant which is vastly different than under the previous iteration (mediocre Vegetable Garden - vegetarian). It is wide open with some odd seating against the wall. The opposite wall is currently devoid of decoration. They could benefit from some kind of tapestries there to absorb noise. That said, I don't go to a restaurant for the ambience. I go for the food that was superb. The people who manage and operate the restaurant are very anxious to please and attend to diner desires and needs. We were told that the very authentic food is created by a chef actually from Szechuan (Sichuan) province. My wife ordered non-spicy Chicken with Mixed Veggies, but changed the brown sauce to a white garlic sauce. It was very well prepared with a wonderful assortment of veggies. NOT just American broccoli like too many local restaurants. I ordered Fish Filet with Sour Veggie SOUP. The portion served (in a tureen) was enormous. I would have ordered it without the soup base but I did not recognize it in the menu where it is called "Sauteed Fish Fillets in White Sauce," I think. Our waiter, a young man learning English, was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I do have one complaint: in MY opinion, Chinese restaurants should NOT charge extra for white rice. I know that this is a standard practice in other places, but not here. It bothers me. read more

We live in Leisure World, near this restaurant (5 minutes away). We went on Night 2 of their soft opening. In my wife's and my opinion, this could become a hot restaurant destination. Some of the best Chinese we've had in the area. We had two wonderful dishes: Flounder Fish Filet in Sweet and Sour Sauce, and Beef and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce. They both tasted great, and were large portions at very reasonable prices. Actually, we had to take home some of both dishes. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Nice plates and serving bowls. The restaurant is still being decorated, but we can really tell it's going to be very pretty, and the staff are super friendly. For vegetarians there are 10 choices plus tofu dishes. One can do very spicy dishes (e.g., those with Szechuan Peppers). And they have more traditional Chinese dishes (including what they call American Chinese Cuisine). The menu includes half and whole Peking Ducks, 18 appetizers including 4 noodle dishes, noodle soups, and a number of exotic specialties. They also have a very reasonably priced lunch. Because it was Valentine's Day, I pre-ordered delivery 1/2 Peking duck, Scallion pancakes and Deep Fried Shredded Beef. The Peking Duck was delicious and was enough for 2 people. The scallion pancake was also excellent. The fried shredded beef with the peppers was way too spicy hot for either of us to eat immediately. However, once I removed all the hot peppers and sauce, it did have good flavor once we got past the spice. Will order very mild next time. There will be a next time for sure. read more

Sichuan Bistro is a great, very authentic Chinese restaurant located in of all places, the Leisure World Shopping Center. We ate there yesterday and really enjoyed the food. The service was excellent and the restaurant was nicely decorated. We had ma po tofu and kung pao chicken and ordered them "spicy." Both orders were large and delicious. if you're not into spicy Sichuan fare, the menu offers traditional Chines American dishes such as General Tso's chicken, etc. The heart of the menu is more authentic Sichuan dishes. The food is so good that we're thinking of going bolder next time and ordering something like "spicy fried intestines." Highly recommended. read more

First time here, but have been to their Ellicott City location which I thought was really good. This place is on par, although the menus are slightly different. Came with a big group so we can share a bunch of dishes. Apparently we got the biggest table (12) with a lazy susan and it really came in handy once the food started to arrive. We ordered several apps: soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, cucumber salad, cold beef/tripe, spicy wontons, and dan dan noodles. I thought the cucumbers and beef dishes were really good and would order them again. The soup dumplings not so much; skin was too thick and not much filling. For entrees, we ordered a ton: salted egg yolk tofu, kung pao chicken, eggplant garlic sauce, Sichuan string beans, popcorn chicken, spicy pork vermicelli, cumin beef, and spicy boiled fish. I thought all of the dishes were good and would order most again. I've had salted egg yolk dishes many times before, but this version was more 'saucy' and wet, versus using the yolk as a batter. This was good, but kinda prefer the 'dry' version better. Vermicelli and fish were probably my favorites, although I've had better boiled fish at other places. Service was kinda hit or miss. I know its tough on staff and the kitchen with large groups, but you have to bring rice out to a bunch of hangry Asians than wait until the very end when we ask for it. Staff was non-existent towards the end, mainly because it was 8p and time for them to eat. I'd return to try more items and its a huge menu. Actually the menu is very nice, like a coffee table book, but could have used even more pics to see what dishes look like. Overall a good Sichuan addition for MoCo. read more

I give this Sichuan Chinese, Sichuan Bistro, four stars anticipating the five soon once I try some or of its food. I spent time in China during my working years and the Dan Dan noodles I ate for lunch on its soft opening day were as good as any I ate on the street in Chengdu. This dish signals, from my past experience, that the Chef knows his business and well. If Dan dan noodles are done well, so will be the other dishes. It's that simple. Kind of like testing out a French restaurant by asking for an omelette, far harder to make properly than most people know. Most people have never had a proper omelette because of the difficulty. Same with Dan Dan noodles. Sichuan Bistro's menu is studded with classic Sichuan dishes, along with Chinese American dishes for those who like them too. It offers vegetarian food and quite a bit of it and modified the "heat" of the more spicy dishes if you want it. I.m looking forward to going back soon to try Sichuan Bistro's other central and western Chinese food, and I am delighted such a restaurant has opened in Silver Spring. I only can think of one restaurant in my area that can compete with this one--and it is owned by the former chef of the Chinese embassy in Washington DC. That is high praise indeed. read more

I never submit reviews, but we enjoyed this place so much, I must share. We went to Sichuan Bistro's 'soft opening' last night. The interior is very nice, rather elegant with a piano, yet still casual. Their 4-person tables are easily movable for larger groups, and there is a round table with turntable for shared meals. Seating is chairs or benches, and it was not difficult to get in/out etc., accommodating for assistive devices. I used the hand washing sink outside the restrooms; of course, it is all new and clean. The service was excellent. They have 3 sister restaurants in Baltimore, Ellicott City, and Towson. Our appetizers and entrees came out right away, and were piping hot. The flavors of our entrees were deep and rich, made with experience and care. We love this cuisine, and have been searching for a Sichuan place as good as one we frequented in Fairfax, VA (now closed). After 15 years, this is it. It was sooo good! Prices were very reasonable, especially for the huge portions. After dinner, we sat on benches outside and chatted before returning home. We are looking forward to exploring their menu. This is the first time to try this restaurant. And I want it to do well, it just opened! I hope the management pays attention. The noodles were dry and tasted like paste. The only flavor was too much salt. The meat dish we ordered did not taste fresh. As if the meat was a few days old and not refrigerated properly. This is not a good start for a new addition to the neighborhood. The inside decor was very nice and it is clear that attention was paid to the details. But if you spend time on your appearance and not enough on perfecting the quality and taste of the food then what is the point? I wish you much success and hope the food improves. read more

What a joy that this restaurant has opened.My wife and I went for lunch on Monday which was the first day they were open My wife ordered the flounder and tofu in a Sichuan sauce.She loved it and had enough left over to have for dinner that night.The lunch special came with the best Hot and sour soup we ever had.The soup was extremely flavorful with a little spice.I had the Mao Po Tofu.This is fluffy pillows of tofu in a spicy Sichuan sauce.It was great.I took some home also.We also had steamed chicken dumplings.The dumplings were handmade but we thought the chicken inside needed some seasoning to prevent it from being bland.The Jasmine tea was great but pick it up with a napkin because the pot is piping hot.The owner George came over and introduced himself and told us how happy he was that my wife came in on opening day.George made us feel very welcome.If you want the best Sichuan food in Maryland come in to the Silver Spring Sichuan Bistro and say hello to George read more
