Had opportunity to try out the skid plates and they performed beautifully over a rough road. My corvette was towed to Silver Star from Hot Springs in Carson City . I chose Silver Star because of our experience. They quickly diagnosed the problem as broken knob on transmission- preventing startup. They said one week , but actually took only 3 days. Super-efficient. I will always use Silver Star for all of my car and truck projects. They are the best in Gardnerville , and probably cc and reno also. Exceptionally clean garage. James is confident in his staffs ability to get the job done. He does what other garages only wish they could. I have a modified jeep tj with PSC steering system. I went to a few other garages they took one look at the system, liked the system but wanted no part in the repair, two offered to return to a stock Steering system. That was not an option. I brought my MB CLS300 in for B1 service. I had been looking for a local option for recommended service versus going to the dealer in Reno and paying a grand for this. I called and had a chat with the owner/mechanic of the 2 man shop. They had a two week queue for service but they would not disappoint. I brought my car in after supplying my VIN info so they had all the recommended filters and parts. They met with me and told me it would take about 2 hours. Like clockwork, ready in 2 hours and they reset all the electronics too! The cost was a third of the dealer and they are real technicians. In now have a place to take my RAM 2500 diesel and Challenger. These guys are awesome! read more

Finding someone to trust with one of your most important and expensive items (your car) isn't something you take for granted. Nor should you take a crap shoot. If you're reading this, you'll look at the number of stars, number of reviews, and maybe read one or two of them. Maybe you're unsure about the bona fides of the person leaving the review or even if the person leaving it has any clue as to a compare/contrast with others. Having some experience wrenching on a car, I know what is a reasonable rate, and jobs that I want to personally avoid. In this case it was the water pump for a Lexus RX, and then a simple follow up job for changing the rear shocks on a truck ... (in the winter). Plus, I've been lucky enough to move to Nevada so have been able to "experience" auto-repair shops in a variety of locations. These guys were accurate in price (what you get in terms of parts, what you expect or hope to pay, and what you wind up paying) and also in the amount of time it took to get the job done. I wasn't left hanging in terms of communication, status of the job nor was I mislead as to how long it would take (and pleasantly surprised as to how quickly they got it done: from yelp communication, estimate and then dropping off at the shop to having it available for pick up). Price : Better than expected! Turnaround time : Great! Communication : Top notch! Location ... Well it's just "okay" as it's a bit set off 395 / Industrial but once you figure out where they're at, it's fine :) So at the end of the day ... how much is your time worth to get the job done right the first time, with clear expectations set, and exceeded? read more

Came in for what was supposed to be a simple one hour O2 sensor install on my Land Rover with a predetermined quote for the job. Owner of shop had a Land Rover himself when I pulled up, which boosted my confidence in his knowledge of my rig. Had some unforseen complications during install nobody would have seen coming until in the midst of the job. James took charge and found a creative, unconventional, yet sound way to fix the issue. Took him about 4 times the amount it was supposed to take due to what happened and the complications that arose, but he stayed true to his original labor quote he gave me upfront regardless of having to invest extra of his own time to get it taken care of. That's honesty and integrity that will keep me coming back and recommending him. He keeps his shop organized and spotless. Attention to detail even in simple things like his branded uniform and hat he wears shows he takes pride in his shop and work. James is by far the best mechanic we've ever dealt with. He has worked on all of our vehicles: 2014 Subaru Outback, 2009 Suburban 2500, 1986 Toyota 4runner, 2007 Bayliner 245, Honda eu2000 generator... you name it, he can fix it. He just finished a major overhaul of our boat trailer in which he replaced our crappy, inoperative surge brakes with an electric over hydraulic system. It turned out to be a much longer, more arduous job than any of us thought it would be, but James got it done and stuck to his quote despite having to re-do the entire job because of some faulty bearing seals which he replaced under warranty at no additional charge to us. He is a super nice guy that really knows his stuff. We have referred several of our friends to him who all love him just as much as we do.
