My college aged daughter broke down on the way to a wilderness training at Mammoth. She finally limped in to this shop late in the day (a Friday even) The repair staff helped her sort things out and since it turned out she didn't need much - just some fluids, they even refused to charge her anything. She and WE, her parents are so grateful! She says they were so kind, reassuring and didn't make her feel stupid when it turned out to just be simple fluids. Never again! Had an appointment to have a SmartStart install on July 15th. Show up to the shop to find out they dont have the right equipment. Didnt have the decency to call. Told that they would be in contact when equipment was recieved. Never recieved a call. Had to call smart start to reschedule. New appointment on July 30th. Show up and was told that I needed certain dmv information. Smart start had already collected that info and i did not have a copy on me. Instead of checking with smart start it, Danielle started to give me the run around. I had enough and walked off. Two failed attempts at installation. Two half days taken off work to get this done plus a cancelled DMV appointment. I will never be back or recommend. read more

Absolutely one of the best automotive shops in the area. The owners bent over backgrounds to meet the needs of two senior citizens. All the employees were conscientious, considerate and cheerful. Even though they ran diagnostics and test drove our vehicle several times during the day it was in the shop, they could not get it to duplicate the brief and periodic hesitation in power we had been experiencing. They did not charge us for their time and told us if we got a dashboard warning light or kept experiencing the problem we should have it checked out promptly. I've read the reviews, so I assume these must be from clients who are spending good money to get good automotive service. However, Stafford is also a SmartStart calibration vendor, and our experience with them over the past four months has been HORRIBLE and demeaning. We are ignored by the lead woman every time we walk in. She is constantly on her phone talking - and when we politely try to get her attention, she acts like we're a big nuisance. Absolutely unacceptable. Gardnerville is a small community, and I felt compelled to write this review to warn customers that there are other shops in the area that provide great automotive service AND great customer care for All. read more

This is an extremely unhonest and poor mechanic shop. I recently had work done through them. They completely over looked basic and simple components. I went elsewhere to get work done and this new shop pointed out Stafford completely failed to install gaskets and seals leading to an EXTREME LEAK. Oil all over the underside of my vehicle. Not only do they have poor workmanship. They also greatly over charge and up sell all parts. You will pay the highest price on parts and repairs at this shop. Another point, my good friend also went to a local Walmart. She got there and saw what looked like her vehicle that was supposed to be under repair. The woman, Danele, had taken my friends car out of the shop to run her errands. DO NOT GO TO STAFFORD. read more

Not sure what the one star review was about but this place is the real deal. On my way home from vacation towing a boat I broke down on 395-no power no anything. They looked at my truck immediately. Had it fixed (ignition module)and I was on the road in under two hours. That is crazy. There were bunches of cars in front of me, but they knew I had a 4 1/2 hour drive ahead of me and took care of business. Best automotive repair shop I have ever been to. Took my truck in had a problem with the trailer plug when I got it back and plugged in my trailer it still had the same problem. Was told to bring it back with the trailer so I did when I picked it up and turned on Highway 395 heading home turned my signal light on the trailer brakes came on and off like a turn signal turned around brought it back told him to switch the red and yellow wire and it worked I payed him and had to tell him how to fix it. Also had his little daughter in the waiting room wanting me to play house with her. read more

Great business, their quotes are reasonable and I haven't had a problem with any of the repairs made. Their tire prices are also pretty decent, especially compared to the chain stores. Only complaint would be is they are too popular, and you might have to wait two or three weeks to get your car in because there are so many people trying to get in! read more

Okay.... They have no professional courtesy to anyone that walks into their shop, they do not even greet you when entering. If they are talking to a child, Danielle will finish her conversation before even looking at you. They are milking people for money. Jon Stafford the owner himself, told me that he had no idea when a friend of mines car would be done because he had a $8000 Rv job. They had her come in at 9am and said her car would only be roughly a 30 minute job... She went at 4:30 (walking) after calling and was told her car would be next and her car was still in the same place she had parked it at closing time. Danielle did not even call her to inform her that her vehicle was not going to be worked on or looked at as of that day. If it had been a waitress I would have not even tipped her a penny!!! I really think they need to take a class on running a business. Children running around and paying more attention to them then the people walking in is unacceptable. Home life and running a business are two separate things. Greeting a customer goes a long way that's why they call it customer service. When someone walks in and four minutes goes by and you don't say a thing other then looking at that person is ridiculous! Also, when you schedule a time for someone to come in and say it's only going to take thirty minutes and not get even a phone call from them after eight hours is ridiculous as well... Stafford Automotive was recommended to me by my step son. The whole thing got started when my beautiful bride and I purchased a used Bigfoot Motorhome with a Ford 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel engine. Having heard some of the horror stories about this engine, I immediately began to research on how to prevent damaging this engine. I found Jon to be very knowledgeable and very straight forward to me on what to do for the engine. Danielle was wonderful to talk to. I was very impressed with this couple working together at Stafford Automotive. The whole shop had a wonderful family atmosphere to it. The morning I dropped our Motorhome off, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeremy, one of the mechanics and his two children. It turned out that Jeremy was our mechanic. When I saw his name on our bill I knew our Bigfoot Motorhome was in good hands. I was very pleased with the work and the bill was very reasonable. If I could give Stafford Automotive a minus 5 stars review I would. Took a used car for a diagnostic before buying. They said to buy it, only a few minor repairs they could fix for $900. After they had it for 3 weeks, and didn't call with updates, I got it back with all the problems it had to begin with. Plus New ones that weren't there before. After 3 different tries, and most of my savings gone, I now have a car I can't even drive thanks to this business. NEVER take your car there. They are liars and thieves. Poor all around. Can't think of anything good about my experience here. Failed to fallow manufacture install instruction on a new turbo causing drastic short life. I couldn't afford the first one, and they refuse to warranty their work. What a sad customer service. I like to support local business but not with service like this.
