***CONSUMER BEWARE. AVOID THIS SHOP OR BE READY TO THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY*** I am currently trying to recover $X,XXX from this rip off shop. I have filed a complaint with BBB, filed an affidavit to recover funds with my bank because this shop is a complete scam and a rip off! A little background: I bought a 1970's Mercedes. When I bought the car, I test drove it and It worked well for its age. One thing I noticed was the brakes, they were in terrible condition. I brought my car in to have the brakes repaired and asked Roubik (the shop's owner) - to check out the engine in case I needed to address any issues prior to my driving the car on the streets. I was told my brake booster needed to be replaced. I advised the owner to proceed with the work after he quoted me $X,XXX range for the work. I get a call back a few days later, saying the car is ready. I pick up the car, test drive it for a block, and it makes a loud noise, and is dragging terribly. I bring it right back, Roubik checks the car, and there are ZERO fluids in the car. They drained the fluids and did not replace them. WHO DOES THIS!!!? I realize at this point, that I may be in for some trouble, but I have paid for the service by now and decide, people/businesses deserve a second chance. In the words of Charlie Murphy, "WRONG." After he fills up the necessary fluids in the engine and transmission (in front of me as he scolds his employees in Farsi), I take it on a spin and the car Draaaaags, not moving past 20 mph. I immediately assume it is the engine or transmission. However, I am not a mechanic who runs a car repair business so I can certainly make stupid mistakes like this. I would not expect a business owner of a car repair shop to do this however. I digress... I return the car as there is no way for me to drive it. He suggests for me to leave it to be "checked out". I was pressed for time and advised him I wanted my car repairs completed before 7/1/14. I get a call back end of June, "your car is ready". I once again pick it up. I drive the car home and it does the SAME THING. I tow the car back to them the next morning, realizing I will not have my car repaired by July 1. I leave the car at shop for them to repair while I am gone. I return 2 weeks later, and the car has not moved an inch. I am told I was not expected to return until Aug 1, and therefore no work was done. I am a cool and collected person, I let it slide, but do press for them to finish the work - which I had paid for already - to be completed by that weekend. I get a call, "your car is ready". I pick it up, test drive it and MY WHEELS CATCH FIRE! I pull over, and fortunately there is a fire truck at the same corner. The LAFD truck quickly extinguishes the flames. We all realize it is very odd since the engine is not at all affected. I call Roubik, tell him what just happened, and he says, "There must be something wrong with the engine"....what? I can make that stupid mistake, not a professional mechanic with a business that is supposed to know about cars and their repairs. I tow the car in again...leave it for a few days for more "checking/repairs". I am called to pick it up and charged again for brake calipers this time. I take the car and it does not move past 20 mph. I am furious at this point but just want to get my car out of this limbo, and take it to an actual mechanic where within hours they tell me "the brake booster needs to be changed" WTF!!!? I called Roubik immediately and demanded my money back. He tells me the guy is lying and wants to take my money... I refuse to bring the car back to this place, because it has been close to a month of back and forth with no solution. Roubik refuses, and things get heated over the phone conversation. I proceed to have the new repair shop make the repairs (they rock btw, check my review in the future of their services, honest, direct, quick and dependable). My car is now running no thanks to Silver Star Automotive. The place I took it to, remedied the problem, test drove it themselves before returning the car to me - unlike this sham of a place that put my life in danger repeatedly. I wish I could give them negative stars as they deserve them. I will say that if you need to fraudulently file bogus insurance repair claims, this is the place to go. I overheard the owner discussing such things as fudging repair costs to avoid salvaging cars - which is illegal and very dangerous - with a client and should have run away from the place at that moment, but I didn't trust my instinct and decided to trust this place. I thought this was worth the mention. My passenger side seat belt has locked up twice when I've wrapped it around the head-rest. Don't ask...I've tried to configure it to accommodate my 80 lb Boxer Dog in the front seat. Nonetheless the first time it happened, MB Glendale quoted it might be about $500 in time, parts and labor to unlock it. It said "F That!!!" and walked out aggravated... Ultimately I took it to a friend at another dealer ( I won't mention to protect the innocent) and I was still charged more than I would like to pay on labor when I tagged this request along with a routine service. I only went there because I wasn't near Rubik this time and my buddy is also a cool dude... I didn't learn my lesson and messed with the dog and seat belt again!!! I took it to Rubik at Silver Star Automotive. He quickly called over his guy who simply popped off a piece of plastic, unbolted the mechanism and put it back together in about 5 minutes. No bullshit, no big deal and I was on my way. I asked him to charge me something and he refused. Rubik is good people....Thanks again for making an otherwise mess of a day simple. Took my 2005 E500 with an intermittent, but persistent "low battery warning" that would shut off all "convenient services" such as the radio. Car drove fine for months so I didn't think it was the battery, but I decided to get it look at. Mr. Roubik initially seemed very nice. He hooked up the diagnostic & showed me that the main battery & alternator was working fine & didn't need to be replaced. I left the car for him to see what the problem was. He called back a few days later saying that he believe it was the "auxiliary battery" that needed to be replaced. I said fine. I few days later, he called back again and said that it was not the problem. It appears that the "seat air compressor" was malfunctioning & stealing power intermittently & causing the low battery warning. Apparently the E500 pumps air into the seat on one side or the other when you go around turns. So what he did was disconnected it & advise it not be fixed, since it was non-essential. He tested it and the low battery warning did not come back. Now is where things took a turn. Because he had the car for a week and took a while to figure the problem out, I believe that he felt he needed to get paid more than just disconnecting the seat air compressor. So, all of the sudden, he stated that the battery and the alternator both needed to be changed, something that he showed that was working fine earlier. Total cost: $1109. I asked to have my old battery & alternator back so I can get someone to see if they were defective (I suspect they were fine), but he wouldn't give them to me. Conclusion, $1109 to disconnect seat air compressor (the real problem) and to change the battery & alternator that didn't need to be changed. I would have paid a little more for the time it took for him to figure out the problem, but to inflate the costs by changing parts that did not need to be changed, I feel is unethical. The problem with these so call Lexus, Mercedes, ro Jaguar focus shops, is that they all used to work at the dealers, have access to dealer prices, and get their business by undercutting the dealer prices by 15 to 20%. It seems that practically everything that they fix, they will charge @ least $700 or more or it is not worth their time to fix it. Even if it is an easy job. Just because these are expensive cars, doesn't mean everything should cost a fortune to fix. I advise googling online for reasonable charges before agreeing to have any of these mechanics fix them. read more

I never like to write negative reviews because I figure me not going back to their business is enough said. I should of wrote this a long time ago when it happened. I looked up mercedes repair and found Silver Star. I read the reviews and some were good and a couple were bad. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and went to the shop. After 2 weeks calling my car was not ready and they couldn't give me an exact quote on what was wrong with my car. 2 WEEKS without your car in LA is a life time. I was going to school at the time so I had to take the bus or have my boyfriend pick me up. The worst part is that I used part of my student loan to pay for the repair because I really needed my car fix. He finally told me it was ready and charged me $1200, but when I came to pick it up...it took 45mins to get my car back! I waited and waited and it seem like they were barely fixing it. I noticed oil was coming out of my engine because they forgot put the cap on. I drove not even 4 LIGHTS...BOOM the Light Engine went off AGAIN! After it was "fixed!" I call him and he says can you bring it back tomorrow and we will look at it. I bring it and call him back and he tells me he needs more time...took another 2 weeks and in this time tells me: "I don't even know what's wrong with your car." Finally I pick up my car again another $1500. Basically I threw away over $3000 of my loan money. The best part was my Engine Light goes off 2 DAYS LATER!!!!!! AND My car makes a NOISE. I take it back to him and he says "I hear no noise." I said What? You can clearly hear it. We drive down Colorado and tells me "Oh Yeah I can hear it. Leave the car here and we will fix it." I said I would, but I never did because after loosing $3000 and my car is worst than it was and the engine light went off again for the third time. Why would I loose more money. I should of not gone back after the first time or listen to the yelp reviews. To this day my car makes a noise because Silver Star messed my car up which was my worst nightmare. I drive it everyday and wish I never left my car. I called mercedes customer service today to see if there was a recall and come to find out....they took my car to a place in Arcadia and they paid $160 yet I paid an additional $1500 and if I would of taken it in to Mercedes Dealership it would of been no cost. This is was made me want to write a review today because this bad choice still haunts me. IF I could go back....I would of never taken my car here. I wish I would of listen to the bad reviews because they were true. He rips you off and smiles in your face. I wish I could sue him in order to get my money and nothing was fixed. When I called two days ago I was told a part for my car with installation would be $65.00. When I arrived I was shown an invoice showing that the part actually cost Silver Star $60.00 and that my cost would be $87.00! Rubick said that he was upset but there was nothing he could do. Well, he could have called me back and told me the new price when he ordered the part! He then was going to charge me $129.00 including the installation! Let me give you a couple recent points. 1) He got me an emergency tow for my wife who was stranded when my so called "Roadside Assistance" company could not... 2) I stopped in to see if he could schedule a maintenance for my wife's car and noticed my oil light low was on (in my BMW) - He grabbed a couple quarts - No charge. Wife's service B on her car - no issue and fair price. 3) Needed tires for my BMW - America's Tire - next day, alternative brand. Roubik, 15 minutes later, tires at his shop and my car back on the road in 1/2 hour. OK so I just got back from this shop and I can not tell you how happy I am with their service. I have a 2005 BMW M3 and the owner Roubik has taken care of me so many times already. His price is truly fair and he'll fix anything that needs to be fixed. I took my car for an oil change and he told me my belt needed to be changed. I was like wow who goes out of their way to check my car. given how busy his shop is he gives a great service. He is always available whenever I call him. Overall its been a great experience. I highly recommend this place specially for people with fancy cars like MBZ,BMW,Rolls Royce, Jaguar Bentley etc. oh and one more thing. Hello all, I am a local first and foremost and tell the truth Mr.Roubik is a total scammer. I took him my e320 to him I stated to him I want a tune up and oil change,I explained to him that when making a left turn it tends to discomfort at the s.wheeI believe it could be a a- arm or something. He said part of the $350 .00 he will inspect it as well and inform separtly and if i wanted any more fixed he ' d inform me, but thats seprate i get it. He did say all he was gonna do is the oil & tune up. Well, 4hrs later I return. Mr.Roubik is like ah, perfect I just finished it. Your car needs a new or rebuilt transmission , 2 a-arms and motor mounts . I'm like really. He's like, yes. I,m like a new tranny he said well I need to take the pan off and check. So I aked for $350.00 what did you do? He said I changed your oil. I then asked what about the tune up and spark plugs he said,"My friend" spark plugs alone are 20bucks each. So I said basically I paid $350 for a oil change. He said I looked at it. I then asked him to type a receipt of the work he did and print the items he said were in need of fixing. Uncomfortable the great Mr.Roubikian is being questioned it took him like 25 min to type up some bogus diagnostic report with my oil change $304 later ( he gave me a discount) ha ha ... Right. Remember I just wanted an oil change and tune up with a tell of what's wrong with my car I received oil change with (76 syn oil cheap) and a bogus report which I had to ask for which totally took forever why? Rubik thinks that he should decide what to do to your car. today he dumped me off the phone 3 times an hour apart saying he would call back in 5 minutes. He never called. I kept calling him. later in the afternoon he calls and leaves a message hat he is going to change the brake pads whether I want it or not. He offers me $350 for the car as I mentioned I was going to sell it off and did not want to do any repairs. The car is worth realistically $1500 to $1800 based on what similar sell for. He says he will refund the cost of repairs if I sell him the car. The cost of the repairs is now up to $450. Now (later) the the cost is now $500 and despite the website saying they close at 6 they are closing at 5pm so I have to come tomorrow instead. I think the people who think this is fair and honest are used to paying way too much and confuse people who are pleasant with people who are ethical and honest. I feel pretty abused and gouged. I told him he is charging too much and he said Oh, the car drives like new, I even fixed a tail light and turned off the lights in the dashboard. If he really wanted to help then he might have addressed the MASSIVE oil leaks or the loud noises from the exhaust manifold. The kid will not sell the car and it is a bomber but dealing with him is like trying to grab a greased watermelon. I ma not happy with them in any respect. My Mercedes c230 kompressor needed service A..... freaked out a bit b/c i wasn't sure if that meant my car was on the brink of breaking down or not....... but sure enough i called the guys at silver star and they explained what that meant and gave me a very reasonable estimate (something around $250ish). I called around to another mercedes auto shop that gave me the estimate of $600+!!! So silver star wins! The person I spoke with was willing to have me come in that very afternoon but I wasn't able to make it til the next morning. They fit me right in and I was done in about an hour.
