Silverglades on 8th is my new favorite place downtown. They are one of the best places to eat lunch, but what really makes them #1 for me is the fact that they're open "late". By late I mean they are open until 7:00pm Monday-Friday, which is actually surprisingly rare. This is especially handy for me since I work until 6:00pm. Their food is absolutely top notch. It's all Boar's Head meats and cheeses, some really outstanding sandwiches, paninis, and wraps, and some of the best "deli selections" you can find downtown like pasta salads, casseroles and such. Also, soups, several types of salads, yogurt, a nice selection of snacks, and smoothies. Everything seems to have been selected or prepared with quality in mind. Honestly. Also, you can get milk, butter, and eggs there. Oh, and beer. They have a good beer selection which includes Great Lakes and my favorite beer: Christian Moerlein OTR. I challenge anyone to find another place in the CBD where you can get all that after 6:00pm. The fact that all this is in one place and it's open late enough for me to get things on my way home from work boggles my mind and I love them for it. I've now been here twice and have been impressed both times. Working downtown, it is important to be able to eat quickly, efficiently, and reasonably, and Silverglades satisfies all of the above -- albeit on the higher end of "reasonably," if I'm being honest. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. Both times I've had paninis -- the first time a BBQ panini that was decent, and the second time I "built my own" turkey and bacon panini, which was pretty good. They also have wraps, a number of gourmet sandwiches, breakfast, soups, desserts (think baked goods and ice cream), and salads that are made and tossed to order. For a sandwich, chips, and drink, it comes to about $10, which isn't necessarily "cheap," but you could easily forego a pop and it cost considerably less. Service has always been quick and friendly and I would recommend Silverglades to any and everyone downtown. They also have a location in Findlay Market, should you find yourself near the Market during breakfast or lunch. read more

Hardly a hidden gem but it was for me. Passed this place a few times and then viola. This place was hopping and with good reason. They have a great variety of food and I tried the Louisiana lighting sandwich. Real good stuff. Hot mustard , spicy Turkey, Ginger potatoes chips a banana loaf slice cake (that was ok). An old-school deli on the Northeast part of downtown serves up excellent sandwiches and a solid breakfast. Quality: 4.5 stars - The menu is very dynamic serving old favorites with new concoctions. Ingredients are high quality but not tops. Service/Ambiance: 4.0 stars - The inside of the building is quite clean with plenty of seating. The employees seem a bit reserved but get the job done. Value: 4.0 stars - $6 for most sandwiches offered is a very reasonable price. Additional Notes: They also sell 6-packs of Great Lakes and Christian Moerlein as well as a nice wine selection (useful if you live downtown); you can't drink there, they'll let you know that. I was really disappointed when I stopped in this week. I ordered one of the sandwiches, but asked them to omit the cheese. He told me that they couldn't do that, because the sandwiches are all "premade." WTF? That's the whole point of going to a deli and getting a sandwich - they are supposed to be made to order. Guess not here! After that, I decided to get a salad, and walked over there but was informed by the staff that the salads were "closed" - even though I could see all the salad fixings sitting there. I don't think I will be back anytime soon. I would up going elsewhere for my lunch. read more

Unfortunately downgrading my review to 3-stars for Silverglades because the service has gotten slower and there have been a couple missteps on the food on my last few visits. The lines have been shorter too, which makes me think that maybe others are getting frustrated with similar issues. I'm not sure if they've cut staff, but despite the relative lack of a line, it takes a while for someone to get around to taking your order. Check out is still efficient, but the overall vibe seems less friendly than before. Two visits ago, they were out of some of the ingredients for the BBQ sandwich I ordered and on this visit, they had the sandwich available that I ordered, but it was burned. Really burned. I would have sent it back except that I didn't have time to wait for another unfortunately. I've had enough good experiences to hope that this is just a bit of a slump, but they need to step it up on service and quality to get back to 4-star range. read more

I really, REALLY like Silverglades. The food, the selection, the space. I love all of it. There are a few minor issues that keep it from being a 5-star business but they are few and far between. First of all, this space is huge. It is broken up into a few "stations". There is a coffee & smoothie station, salad station, soup station, and sandwich station. There is also an area with chips as well as a small selection of beer and wine. The problem with all of these stations is if your a newbie you have no idea where to go and how to order. They don't do a very good job of directing you in the right direction. I can say however, once you figure out where to order, the food is delicious. Everything they do is freshly made, including the sandwiches which are cut and made right in front of you. They are known for their chicken salad and I can firmly say that it is warranted. I love a good chicken salad, and Silverglades delivers. I would recommend calling to make sure they are open because they do have a little weird hours on the weekend. After you get over the intimidating space and find where to order and what to order I think that you'll love Silverglades. It's easy to get to, has plenty of parking options compared to most places downtown, and the food is fresh and delicious. A triple threat for a downtown deli lunch option. read more

Silverglades is a solid lunch option. They have inspired sandwiches, a killer selection of chips & sodas, and are organized to quickly get you served & back to your work day. You can get standard deli fare here, but you're better served to pick up one of their specialty sandwiches. If it weren't all the way on the other side of downtown from my work, I'd probably be there more often. Bottom Line: I'll be back to this solid lunch spot when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

The wait can get a bit lengthy during lunch time here with the business crowd. The food is superb and fairly priced. Lots of variety. Great assortment of wraps and sandwiches available. The staff are slooooow and move like old people having intercourse. No one there seems to move with a sense of purpose. Service needs improvement but the food will keep you coming back. I really wish this place had better hours. I don't work downtown, but spend a good deal of time there in the evenings and weekends. I wish they were a place I could go for a quick healthy meal on a Saturday or Sunday night! Their food is excellent! The sandwiches are unusual and freshly made. You can make a customized salad. They have a rotating selection of soups. I recommend making your own salad! The Bob-A-Que Sandwich is good, but a little too much bread for my taste. My complaints about this place... The salad bar is often closed, even when the restaurant is still open. Service is a mixed bag- We have twice come in close to closing and been met with very hostile looks and curt service because we were holding them up from finishing their cleaning and getting home. Another time, service was awesome. If I worked downtown, I think I would be a regular here. Hope that someday they decide to stay open for dinner hours! read more

Great place for lunch. Quick, easy and so many options that are made in house/to order. Went on a Tues noon so it was bustling w/ biz lunch crowd. But was still prompt and seats available. All the staff was helpful. We had the chkn greek wraps and soups. The chkn and beef soups and my chkn soup was delicious and hearty. Wraps are very good too. The food is good, but its the services that gives me that gets under my skin and causes me to say MEH. They are short with people and a pleasant demeanor is a rarity. I go here every few days and the staff is always super friendly. That makes a big difference in a food experience. Food is always good too! Another restaurant downtown I vistited for the first time and another restaurant I wish I would have tried so much earlier. I love a good deli and I could eat Turkey/Chicken Sandwhiches for lunch for the rest of my life, so Silverglades was right up my alley. Silverglades is actually an impressively large restaurant with two ordering stations. At one, you can build your own salad and at the other you can pick from a great variety of sandwiches and paninis. I opted for the Skinny Minny which featured Boar's Head Buffalo Chicken, sprouts, cucumber, tomato, and low fat Ranch (hence the "skinny" I suppose). The sandwhich was great and it left me wanting to try all the options at this place (which includes homemade chicken salad and more). A decent place to grab lunch downtown, Silverglades is kind of a deli family dynasty in Cincinnati. In addition to this location, they have a storefront at Findlay Market (where they've been for 80+ years), one on 4th and Plum, and another out on Clough Pike. Nice selection of hot comfort food like meatloaf and mac-n-cheese as well as a variety of wraps and sandwiches. The Mediterranean wrap is a standby, but with the fresh bread and sandwiches made to order, it's all pretty good. read more

I've had three experiences at Silverglades, which is unfortunate because I've lived right next to it for 2 years and was excited to have a deli right by where I live. The first time I simply went in to buy wine for a friend. Very convenient! The second time a friend brought me an egg & cheese bagel, typically a saving grace for me on a hungover Saturday. We both took a bite & immediately looked at each other in utter confusion. The sandwich tasted like straight up air! How can an egg & cheese sandwich have ZERO flavor?! The third time I tried to order a sandwich for pickup. I called, placed my order & then was told "okay, I'll make it when you get here." Why did I place an order for pick up if you're not going to make it before I get there? When I arrived I didn't see anyone & did some coughing so someone knew a customer was there. He didn't remember I called and ordered two minutes before, & then the sandwich itself was below average. They also have weird hours & don't follow their hours & turn off the sign so you can't even see what the hours are suppose to be. Just like my brother, so much potential but a constant disappointment. read more

Okay, I was torn on this review because I do love me some Silverglade's Renaissance chicken salad with a big, beautiful pickle and a tall glass of their heavenly sweet tea, BUT I'm often turned off by the attitudes of the staff. I frequent this location a lot because it is ridiculously convenient to where I work, so I can say with certainty that more often than not I feel like the staff is rude. I know it's always busy, but I feel like anything can be done with a smile, and I'm a sucker for customer service. I hate feeling like I am being an inconvenience when I am ordering, which I often do at this location. I'd also say be prepared to wait, because if you come during a non-rush time (I like to eat later in the afternoon) even though you may be the only one in line and you are making eye contact with the person behind the counter--you will wait. Also, the food is pricey for deli food, but it is a higher caliber. So, like I said I'm torn. I would definitely suggest going and grabbing a sandwich and some sweet tea, but just be prepared to be underwhelmed by the service. read more

Was walking somewhere else to eat when I saw this place near my hotel and decided to check it out. Well it is a super clean place with lots of eating choices. I got a huge tuna fish sandwich with a side of some pasta and a pickle, grand total $8.41, so not bad. Everything very fresh. Staff very friendly and you can even sample the sides. I have been to silverglades 3 times. Once to get a to go order for my boyfriend and myself. I'll start with this experience. First of all, the lines you order at and pay at are all over the place and in different locations and if you don't know the flow of the restaurant, the staff acts annoyed and frustrated. I was ordering a salad and a sandwich combo to go. I had to go to one side of he restaurant to order my salad and the woman who took my order (short, blonde ish hair, older woman) was EXTREMELY rude. She acted like she didn't want to take my order or make my salad. Then I paid for the salad at some different counter. Then I went over to the sandwich side to order my boyfriends meal and the staff member on that side was even more rude than the first (brunette, gross hair, with glasses). I ordered a sandwich, regular, not smoked and she acted like she had absolutely no clue what i was talking about. She was super rude when I asked to call my boyfriend to try and get more clarification on his order. She had a big scowl on her face. And was also annoyed. Also, she knew what I was talking about...I said regular instead of "grape walnut" when ordering the chicken salad sandwich. Then I asked for a combo and she said I made it a combo at the register. I asked "so do I get the fruit at the register in order to make it a combo?" And she basically just repeated "you make it a combo at the register" in a slower tone. I almost said forget the whole order. So then I got to the register and I said I want to make this a combo but do I get the fruit up here? The man said no and that I was supposed to get it back with that nasty girl who made my sandwich. Since she was so lazy and rude and didn't give me my fruit, the ringing up process was screwed up. Next time I went in there I got a bagel and was not provided cream cheese. I asked a lady (fat brunette) where to get cream cheese and she said "you have to ask_____" I cant even remember the name and even if I did, how was I supposed to know who that man was out of the entire staff? I asked someone and he gave me a small tub of cream cheese. The next time I went in there I got what I needed out of the fridge, paid, and left. The food at Silverglades is OK. The only saving grace is that they use Boards Head meat. The service sucks. They are not friendly. It is impossible to hear your order being called. I had my sandwich fingered by some woman today because they do not check that customers are taking the correct orders. Overall, it is unorganized, too expensive and uneventful to the tastebuds.
