Impossible Bun (left), Curry Rice Bowl (right)
Diane W.

I ordered an Impossible Bun appetizer and a curry bowl for pick up. The curry rice bowl with Impossible katsu was delicious. I really enjoyed the umami of the curry. I loved the appetizer I got too. The bun was nice and plush.

I love my neighborhood fix . Everytime I walk in Chay knows my order by heart and the food is always on point . 5 stars

So, I went back because for my favorite gyoza and the lady from last time (the rude one) was super nice and my food was great

4.11.25 Shoyu on Fire
Mr. Juan D.

Was craving ramen for some odd reason and stumbled upon this spot late at night. Luckily, they were open, and it turned out to be a great find. The service was quick and prompt--no long wait times, which was a huge plus. The atmosphere was simple and a bit quiet, which made it a chill place to unwind. I ordered the Shoyu on Fire and it absolutely hit the spot. Flavorful, spicy, and just what I needed. If you're ever in Downtown LA and looking for a solid bowl of ramen, this place is definitely worth a try.

Chicken Karaage Bowl

I ate at Silverlake Ramen after seeing a show at the Ahmanson with my friend. It was my first time here and I really enjoyed it! We both got the Chicken Karaage bowl. That red ginger! So good! We were the only guests, and it did take a while to be served, but the food came out piping hot and was tasty. I'm super happy to see that there is one closer to me in Pasadena.

Sake mummy

Shay suggested the most cutest sake that I've ever had and I guess to keep the cup. Thank you Shay for her great recommendation. Five stars definitely be back for the great customer service and the food of course And the atmosphere was very chill industrial nice type of feel

Amazing food! Always fresh and made perfectly. Staff is wonderful.Always my go to when I'm in downtown.

Curry karaage chicken rice bowl & pork bowl

After a night out we were hungry and stumbled upon this place. The food was so tasty it really hit the spot. We got the regular size bowls for around 8$ each, and it was the perfect amount to fill us up. The service was also great the waitress was so nice and the service was quick. Recommend coming here :)

Ambiance: spacious high ceiling inside and patio outside, good for dine-in and take-out too Service: very rushed and forgetful, understaffed in the store, had to remind the server to get things right Food & Drink: standard ramen menu with combo and add-ons GARLIC TRUFFLE RAMEN - ** TRUFF X SILVERLAKE RAMEN, choice of protein pork, blend of creamy pork, vegetable stock, garlic, truffle oil, kale, mushrooms, black pepper, seaweed and seasoned egg, serve with thick noodles, overly salty broth but not enough garlic and gruff flavors, undercooked noodles, hard to chew, and overcooked pork, rubbery texture Sprite - *** canned drink Price: moderate and overpriced for its quality, about $25 per person

The ramen comes with 1 piece of pork only lol it's pretty dumb!
Jacob S.

What's with them serving only one very small flimsy piece of burnt pork? They're really supposed to sell one slice of pork and half an egg ?! Something so off and inconsistent. No valie.

Their ramen noodles are always cooked perfectly (I like them a little firm) and their broths are super flavorful, their eggs cooked perfectly. I usually enjoy their spicy or black garlic broths which add extra kicks. Daikokuya can be busy throughout the day, but there servers and kitchen staff work hard to turn around orders and tables relatively quickly. Anytime is a good time for ramen from Daikokuya.

To be clear, you really can't go wrong with any of the restaurants on this street and I recommend just going with whichever one has the shortest wait when you show up. Thankfully we only had to wait about 20 minutes and got a table inside. There were 6 of us and they made us squeeze into a booth built for 4 which was a little annoying but we made it work. I ordered their signature Daikoku Ramen which was very flavorful and filling, just wish there had been more meat! My husband got the poke bowl with salmon and tuna which is a great dish for those on the protein grind. Service was mixed, they brought some dishes out immediately and then others in our group had to wait longer to get their food. Overall food was tasty and I would go back.

The skewers were absolutely delicious--perfectly grilled, full of flavor, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Every dish we ordered was fresh and authentic, making it easy to see why this place has become such a popular destination for Japanese food lovers in Little Tokyo. The service was equally impressive. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was lively and fun, creating the perfect setting for a great meal with family or friends. If you're looking for amazing Japanese skewers, excellent service, and a true izakaya experience, I highly recommend Shin-Sen-Gumi. I will definitely be coming back!

The chashu was disappointing: lean and chewy--more like steak found in pho than the tender pork I expected. The wait for a table was long in the hot sun during lunch. And it's still an inconvenient location to get to in terms of parking--little Tokyo is as busy as ever. We had to share a table with some other, really loud patrons. The air conditioning was broken. I got the fried rice, previously one of my favorite side dishes here, but the Yakimeshi rice was too dry and disappointing. I added garlic and soft boiled egg to my ramen. The garlic flakes were too big/strong and overpowered everything. The egg was good. Since the noodles and broth are the most important parts and were both decent, I'd keep this place at around four stars. But there are a lot of other ramen places to try in the area. Original from years ago: Overtook Daikokuya as my favorite ramen place. I love so much about the place except the wait. And the parking, which doesn't validate as long as it used to. But really, the wait is really terrible. I would eat here more often if the wait weren't such an issue.

The takoyaki was the highlight--crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, with generous pieces of squid. The karaage chicken was crispy and flavorful, although it leaned just a touch over-fried. The California roll was decent, nothing particularly memorable but it hit the spot. To wash everything down, I ordered the Mega Sapporo, which arrived perfectly ice-cold and was incredibly refreshing. That said, it might actually be a better value to order the smaller glasses depending on the pricing. Service was probably the weakest part of the experience. Our server rarely checked on us throughout the meal, and I don't recall being asked if we needed anything after our food arrived. On the bright side, empty plates were cleared promptly, which helped keep the table tidy. The ambiance had a relaxed, casual Japanese bar and restaurant vibe. It wasn't overly loud, making it an easy place to unwind over drinks and appetizers. If you're in the Little Tokyo area, I'd recommend stopping by to take advantage of their happy hour or lunch specials. It's a nice spot for reasonably priced bites and a cold beer, especially if you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere

They were thick but not udon noodles and they seemed to be wheat. Those were delicious but no one at the establishment could clarify what I was actually eating. The lemonade was fine.
