First time trying something other than the beef patties and I enjoyed!!! Do they have attitudes? Some, yes!! But that's what makes the food delicious!!! The brown stew chicken was cooked perfectly, and I was pleasantly surprised by the mac & cheese. Usually I avoid mac&cheese at Caribbean restaurants, but this one tasted as good as it looked. I like my cabbage much softer than the way they prepare theirs, but that's my preference. I asked for pepper sauce on the side because that's the only hot sauce they offered. Patties!!! Get the beef patties. Crust is perfect, and so is the filling. Avoid the curry shrimp patty! After a couple bites, I noticed I wasn't tasting any shrimp. It took a sec for us to get our bearings but we were overall pleased with the options we ordered. The restaurant was very clean and had large portions of food which I believe matched the cost of food. I loved the roti. The wrap itself complimented the flavors inside. I opted to get the sauce on the side which was not the play since it wasn't enough. Definitely won't make that mistake again. They had a friendly staff that helped to guide us through the menu. There are many things I like about this location. Tables and floors were clean, lots of open seating, good for a small office lunch gathering, and the food is delish! I felt transported to an island with authentic Caribbean and Jamaican food. They have a good variety of options as well. Service was efficient, it's not fast food and some items i.e. wraps are made to order to ensure quality and freshness. My only complaint would be customer service. Being greeted nicely goes a long way especially when a tip is appreciated. It was blank stares, frustration with anyone hesitating to make a choice for their meal, along with trying to hear guests through the plexiglass barrier. Literally the only downside. The portion sizes are big! I definitely had enough for dinner that night and lunch the next day. I had the brown stewed chicken with rice, peas, and cabbage. It was delicious! I was visiting my dad and realized that he was much closer to the spot so I made the visit. This spot is a chain (I think 4 spots opened) and is located in the Woodmore shopping center. When it comes to ordering its kind of like a Jamaican version of chipotle where you can get your bowls & roti (burritos) but it's also more than that. I spent $68.19 on a takeout order and got: the curry chicken bowl with rice & peas and stir fry veggies with hot pepper sauce $15.28, 1/2 jerk chicken special bowl with Mac n cheese (+$2) and plantains with island bbq sauce (never got the sauce) $20.79, a pound of jerk pork with dj sauce & rude boy sauce (never got the sauce) $18.79, roti skin $2.85, coco bread $3.07, and beef patty $3.46. - Jerk chicken was pretty good and it honestly impressed me (fav item). - Mac n cheese was okay but it didn't really do anything for me. - Plantains were made well and tasted good. - Jerk pork was good and my 2nd fav item. - Curry chicken was a bit underwhelming: It wasn't bad but I expected more flavor. - Rice & peas were alright. - Stir fry veggies (aka cabbage) were decent. - Beef patty & coco bread were both decent but combining to make a sandwich was even better. - The roti skin was decent but really shines when you pair with the other items like protein & rice. - The hot pepper sauce was very HOT. Overall, spending nearly $70 for the food was a pretty expensive but some of it was worth it. My favorites were the jerk chicken and jerk pork (I'd definitely come back for it). The customizations and special requests are easy to make through their website. I got the honey lime salmon for Mom, jerk meatloaf roti for Dad, and curry chicken for myself. I arrived about 10 minutes later than the scheduled pickup time -- but I wasn't worried, because they seal their bags! There were a few people in line, and the dancehall was on full blast, just how I like it. I was a bit surprised to see my order wasn't there though... but I showed my order confirmation on my phone, they took a picture of it, and had it ready in 5 minutes. For all that food, that's a snappy comeback! I think it was a fluke, and hope it doesn't happen too often. But they got the order 100% correct and everyone was happy! The food tasted better than I remember -- especially the mac and cheese. The curry chicken was boneless which was nice, and I could taste the flavor of coconut milk in the stewed peas... yum. The stir fried veggies were a bit saltier than I normally like, but still wonderful. My parents couldn't finish their dishes... hopefully they're enjoying the rest today. Mac and cheese was rich, gooey, with a lil chew - no complaints! Chicken curry pattie was a delight, excellent flaky pastry dough with well seasoned filling. Plantains? Come on, how do you mess up plantains, they definitely did not mess them up here! A bit unctuous, starchy, and sweet - have them for dessert if they last that long. I decided to stop in here since I was shopping around at the Woodmore Town Center and starving. I am a huge fan of Caribbean eats, and this place caught my eye out of all of the food choices here. Plus, there was no lime. It was my first time here so I kept it simple with trying their Brown Stew Chicken as a test. From the menu, I ordered the Brown Stewed Chicken Bowl with rice n' peas and stir-fry veggies as the sides. Also, added the Coco Bread as a side. To start, the portions were very good and can possibly feed two people. The food on the other hand, was hot but could definitely step it up a notch on the seasoning. The brown stew chicken and stir-fry veggies lacked that flavor and kick that I am used to in comparison, when stopping by my favorite Caribbean joints in the city - DC. Also, the brown stewed chicken was cut-up chunks of chicken (i.e, like chicken nuggets --no bones) and the gravy was watered-down hence the bland taste. Never had this dish prepared this way. I am used to "bone-in whole chicken pieces" which makes for a better stew and flavor. The pepper sauce was a bit mild for my taste as well. The rice n'peas on the other hand, was one of the better items on the plate. In all, It was just okay....not bad and certainly not the best Caribbean eats that I've ever eaten. I might give Dat Jerk another try if I'm in the Woodmore Town Center area again but to be honest, I am on the fence. Ohhh! But, I must give a shout out to the customer service and the cocoa bread! both were on point! The staff was friendly and the service was quick. My first time visiting, I was unsure of how to order. Do you order and pay at the register or tell the employee what you want and then pay? It was unclear on how to do it especially when both employees were busy. Tip- it's tell the employee first and then pay at the register. Now for the food- I was pleased with what I ordered. I wasn't hungry, per se but just needed something to hold me over till dinner. I went in here and ordered brown stew chicken and stir fry vegetables. The stir fry vegetables were so good. I'd give those a solid 5/5. They were well seasoned and tender. The brown stew chicken, however, was a 2/5 for me. The chicken was cubed. I would have preferred it to be legs or thighs. Also, the marinade was just ok. It wasn't very flavorful or seasoned well. I've had better. I'm not sure how their other menu items taste but I will say they are on the pricey side, and I'm sure I could get the same amount of food that generally tastes better for less. read more

The food here is usually spot on! It's clean and the service is generally good. We went on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. They were bringing out fresh macaroni and cheese which I love. My husband got the ox tails for the first time and they were delicious. We will be back as usual. Saw a post on IG about the one in Columbia and remembered there was one nearby so we decided to try it. Love that they play Caribbean music so it was a nice vibe when you walk in. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. We got the oxtail with rice and peas and cabbage, the salmon with rice and peas and plantain, macaroni and cheese, a beef patty, a kale and callaloo patty, two pieces of cake. Overall, the food was probably 5 or 6 out of 10. The seasoning was not as potent as other Caribbean restaurants I have been to. My biggest gripe was that there was corn in the cabbage. I have never seen that before and I don't eat corn so I had to pick through it. Otherwise, the cabbage was fine. The oxtails were very tender and tasted fine, but there was literally no spice. The salmon didn't have enough spice. The Mac was also a little dry. If someone would have given me this food and I didn't know where it came from, I would not have assumed it was a Caribbean restaurant. Was back in town visiting family and went back to Dat Jerk a few times. Instead of getting the Jerk Chicken like we previously, I got the Brown Stew Chicken and Curry Chicken for the family. Both were a hit and the Brown Stewed Chicken is now my new favorite. Our girls (7 & 9) liked these two chicken dishes as they were not as spicy as the Jerk Chicken, The girls also enjoyed the Beef Patties and Roti Skins. Also The Stir Fried Vegetables, Vegetarian Stewed Peas, Rice and Peas and Plantains are so good that I could just eat them by themselves.
