Silvio gave one of my profoto heads away to another customer and never rectified it. When I arrived to pick up my 2 heads and pack, he told me he thought I already picked them up. My silver Halliburton case was sitting in a pile and I said it was mine. Upon opening it, I was missing a head. He is a good guy who made a mistake and I still paid full price for the work as I trusted him to rectify it. I spoke to him via phone several times since then and still no replacement so I'm now leaving this review. Proceed with caution read more

Drop off your gear at your own risk! I have used Silvino's for my Norman repairs since the late 1990's. The place off of Cole is a downstairs unit of an apartment which is wall to wall packs, lamp heads and other things. Silvino positions himself as a straight forward guy trying to make a living in a tough industry. One of the thing that was eating away at me every time I dropped off gear was how well he kept track of it. Well, I found out. I had a Norman 200C unit that needed service. This thing was beautiful, it had hardly any scratches on it. The mistake I made was that I didn't put down a serial number of the unit. I followed up on the unit a week later and they needed parts. Then a few months later and by this time it was taking his sister longer to find it, but she said she was waiting on parts. A year later they had no record of it. By the way, what's the serial number? In case you are wondering this is a $800 unit brand new that they lost for me. His sister's generous offer was to give me one or a dozen 200Cs that were hopelessly dead. When I sent it in the unit was repairable, it just got lost. So, if you want to take your gear in, be sure to write down your serial numbers, and keep calling them week after week until you get your gear back. If after a month they haven't fixed it, get it back and send it elsewhere. I have started using a new repair facility. They have told me that I am not the first guy who said that their gear got lost in their shop. They didn't want to stand behind their problem, their best offer was to sell be used gear at a slight, slight discount. All I asked was to fix this situation and they instead chose to ignore it. read more

Honestly if I could leave no stars I would. This place is horrible and I would never recommend it to anybody. It has taken them months, 5 to be exact, to fix our gear. When asked why it was taking so long all we got were excuses. When they say they will call you back or email you, they don't and you are left constantly calling them. Since it had been so long from us dropping off our equipment they didn't know where some of it was, stating they had not labeled them because they were only chargers. Really? I find this absolutely ridiculous. My point is don't go here. Yes, there are good reviews and I'm sure someone in the industry will recommend him. However you don't want to be one of us who have had gear lost or misplaced and given the run around. read more

Just had our first light break at our studio. Unfortunately, it was a Profoto Pro Head Plus. Took it to Silvino's with a bit of uncertainty due to a few other reviews however that all changed once I was greeted by them. They fixed the light on the spot, replacing the modeling bulb, and flash bulb as well as the dome light in less than 15 minutes! I will definitely be going there for any needed repairs in the future. I needed to get a strobe repaired. I went to Samy's Camera repair .They sent me to Silvino. I checked on google and Silvinos was recommended for my brand of strobe on the internet. I called ahead to make sure they could fix it. They said they could. I drove across town in traffic waited my turn to be seen. The shop is not in a commercial business area but a private home in a dicey area of Hollywood. I waited my turn and finally I handed Silvino my strobe. "We dont fix these. I don't have parts for these. Send it to Chicago." For what reason he didnt want to fix my strobe I don't know. read more

I sent a battery and charger to them for a smple cut and solder job maybe 10 minutes. It's been 3 months of lies and his assistant says he will call us back when he gets back,his sister. Well I can hear him in the back ground talking to her,and of course, he never calls us back . One of the head of my Profoto B2s stopped working so I took it to Silvino's for repair because the flash tube needed replacing (not user replaceable). He fixed it within 20 minutes while I waited at what -- for Profoto -- was a very reasonable price. Really happy with the service. read more

I am a reckless user of Pro Photo B1 flashes. I do weddings and out door shoots on a daily basis. Many times I get in the moment and lose sight of the fact I have a flash preciously balanced to light my couples. I have in four instances allowed the lights to crash to the ground and needed Silvinos to repair my equipment. Every time they have responded with quick and expert repair of my equipment. I'll admit I was skeptical because of some of the other reviews but I couldn't have been more wrong to doubt this guy. One step into his place and you know this guy knows lighting repair!! I had a burned out bulb and modeling light and was hesitant to try to fix it on my own. Less than 20 minutes after walking in he had it fixed and I was on my way! The bulb itself retailed for slightly less than he charged me to fix everything and replace the bulb. had a very bad experience with this shop. i called in to get my hensel repaired and he said he's not charging me to get an estimate for the cost since i'm shipping it from out of state. got an email from them 4 days after saying they've received it, but i never got an estimate until i called again 2 weeks after. and that said call wasn't answered at all for two days. i've had to email them to get an answer. got an estimate and gave them a go signal to fix it, and said that it'll take more time and probably more expensive than expected since the parts were have to be shipped. i wasn't told that they dont have the parts until couple days after. finally gave up and told them to just return the light to me. when i received my unit. some parts were missing! so i called them to see what happened; and ofcourse, still not answering their phone. i sent an email regarding the matter and they denied that they received the part that's missing in my unit. the way they email their customer is very informal. i really appreciate the free repair estimate and to look at the light, but i've lost a $90 part from my hensel light. i'm very disappointed with this. i'm sure they're a good shop as there's hella good reviews from other customers, but i personally wouldn't use them again. read more

Pro Photographer out of San Francisco....Just had one of my kits serviced here. Profoto 7a 2400 generator, 2 x Pro head to be rewired, a rewire for an ext cable, and a flash tube replacement. All done quickly, and for a great price.. they even called me about shipping over the holiday. What great service! Liked it so much I sent in my other kit to be cleaned and serviced. This is now my go-to place. Highly recommended. Make sure to send a note with your serial #' via email and include a hard copy in the case. They refer to these when referencing any needed repairs! I've been going to Silvino for about 20 years. In the beginning, as a representative of the strobe department of a major photo equipment rental company, later as an assistant bringing in other photographer's gear, and finally for myself bringing in my own gear. Silvino is THE BEST, every studio, photo school, photographer and rental house that I know of uses him and ONLY him. My experience with his estimates are that often times the total owed is lower than his estimate. His prices are fair and he service is outstanding. He can rewire any head to work with any system, i.e. the ProFoto ringlight to Norman, Dynalite, etc. Silvino is also a good place for used gear, either he has it or knows who has something for sale. Loved these guys. They took care of a used Dynalite pack I had and got it back to working (and looking) like new. PLUS - the final cost was under the estimate AND they had it to me in less than a week.
