Found them (business has several names and websites) online to repair a tape drive mechanism problem on a Sony TRV-340. Initial quote was $109, I accepted and sent it to them. A few days later, received an email stating the problem was larger than originally estimated and would be $257. I agreed. A week or so later I received the camcorder back with the same problem! They'd cleaned it up a bit, but the same error code was displayed immediately. I emailed and a couple days later received an apology and a request to send it back that they'd make it right, at my expense of course. Just got it back today and it has the exact same error code. They didn't fix it either time. I called and was told the "technician" would call and the owner was not there. Convenient. I don't expect a call and as you can see in other reviews, there is no hope of a refund. I'm sure they scam anyone outside California, I'm in Wisconsin. Since then I've discovered there are several video camera repair services at the same address in Pasadena. Interesting they need to change their business name. UPDATE: After posting this review initially, the owner called me. He convinced me to remove the review and send the camera back for a third time. I reluctantly agreed after he agreed to send me $15 to cover the shipping cost as I'd already paid to send it to them twice. Of course, he did not send the check. They had the camera 3 weeks this time telling me the delay was due to ordering parts. After receiving it, I was able to play one tape before the initial error, C:31:22, came back! Having spent a bit over $400, I am done with this business. They offered a small discount if one pays via check, I do not have recourse to request a charge back from my credit card due to failure to provide service. Reasonable initial quote, steep increase once they have your device, and shipping costs that shift depending on your decision, feels like a business approach designed to pressure people into paying rather than walking away. I requested an estimate and was very specific about the issues on my GoPro 5 Black. -- Estimate was $109 Once they recieved camera they responded by infoming me of the issues which I was already aware of and the repair cost would be $218 not $109. When I informed them I might as well get new camera they then wanted me to give them my GoPro to recyle. I declined and requested camera be returned. The charge I was told would be $15. But I was given the option to provide my own label when I expressed dissatifaction with price. They informed me they "Do not use Priority Flat Rate Boxes". ($8.45) I was then given false dimensions and weight and purchased A Priority Label at $13.90 I think you know where this is going. I love these guys. A few years back I sent my HVR Sony camera to Sony. They kept it for several weeks, gave me a bogus answer to the problem and charged me to fix it. They finally sent it back and it still didn't work. VideoCam Repair contacted me by phone to tell me what the problem was. They gave me a very reasonable repair cost, fixed it in a couple of days and shipped it back free of charge. The camera - while it's an old digital cam - works perfectly now and they told me why it wouldn't work and how to keep it working. These guys are honest, reliable and pros at what they do. I really hate to leave this bad of a review, but I don't feel like "2-stars" is representative of the experience that I had with this company. My hope and belief is that my personal experience was probably not representative of the business as a whole, but I only have my own experience to go off of, and so I share it here. If nothing else, I wish that I had seen a review like this one before I sent them my camera, so that I could have saved myself some money and time. About a month ago I dropped my GoPro Hero 7 Black. The camera stopped working after the drop, and so I did some web searching to find if there was anyone who could fix it since GoPro does not do fixes on its products. Keep in mind during all of this that the cost of a NEW GoPro Hero 7 Black would be $240. I found videocamrepair.com and saw that they not only do online quotes, but they also refund the cost of shipping! So I contacted them and they gave a quote of $120 to fix the problem. They said, "The estimated repair cost is $129.00. The power circuit needs to be replaced." Even though that was a bit expensive, I decided that it would be cheaper than the cost of replacing the camera itself (keep in mind that the cost of a new one is $240). So I paid $14 to ship it to them, and a few days later I received an email telling me that after further inspection, the cost of repair would be $220--very close to *double* what the initial quote was, and very close to the cost of a new camera. I declined the service, and then was charged $18 for shipping and handling to return the camera to me. They did not cover the cost of shipping because they only do free shipping for cameras that they repair. Their website does a good job of keeping this in the very fine-print. So I am out $32 (they did not cover the cost of shipping), and the camera is still broken. If I had paid to have them repair it, it would have been only $20 less than the cost of completely replacing it with a new camera. I may have been a little more likely to give them a higher review if their "estimate" email said something like "we *think* that it is probably the power circuit that needs to be repaired, but there could likely be additional damages that will cost significantly more than this estimate" but that is not what was communicated to me. They said it as a statement of fact that it was the power circuit, and by inference, indicated that this was a common issue and that it was unlikely that other damages were present. It would be one thing if their estimate was $10-20 less than the repair ended up costing, but for it to be very nearly double their quote and almost the same as the cost of replacing the camera outright with a new one was extraordinarily disappointing. I have never rated a business "1-star" before writing this review, but when I clicked the "2-star" button, Yelp indicated that this was appropriate for businesses that meet the following description: "Meh--I've seen better." I don't think that is an adequate description of the experience I had with this business. My experience is much more in line with "1-star" and I wish that I would have seen more reviews like this one before I sent them my camera. It would have saved me both time and money. Based on the experience that I had with Video Cam Repair, I *highly* recommend not sending them your equipment for repair! I wish that I could have seen this kind of warning prior to sending them my camera. read more

Found this place when looking for a place to take my gopro3 in for service. I preformed a firmware update as per GoPros instructions and the camera failed . Turns out the unit would not power back on. After seeking assistance with GOpro ( witch was pointlessness) they only offer to sell me a new GOPro with a discount code ( code saves you tax on a new Gopro8 . The location was open with COVID-19 safety protocols in place and was perfectly safe. The gentlemen took my unit and said they would have a estimate in a few days. They contacted my after 2 days and reported there findings that the unit needed a new main board . I approved the repairs and they had it back to me the same week. Unit works like brand new. I shipped my Go Pro 7 Black camera to this company along with a battery and SD Card as checked out in the accessories on the form. I included one form with the shipment and kept one copy for me. After they contacted me to tell me that the cost would be double the estimate I wrote back to say that they should not proceed with repairing the camera. After a couple weeks I contacted the repair shop to inquire about my battery and SD card. I was told that they never received it. I wrote to file a complain with the California State attorney general's office. I was given another agency to file my complaint. They wrote to say they only deal with big household items. And that I can file a lawsuit. I will not file a lawsuit but I'm on here warning people be careful with this company. They will steal your accessories then claim they did not receive them even though they are clearly marked on their own work order form. EDIT: I had to edit my review base on what Art K. the owner posted. He said there was no battery or SD card included and that I might have stated that on the work order but never included the items. If that is so then he should have contacted me in writing right away to tell me that there are no accessories included. But he did not do that. Also I just read some other reviews for the first time. This be a lesson always come on here and try to read reviews which I did not. At least two other people say they were ripped off. He gave them an estimate then doubled the amount it would cost to fix it. At least they requested to have their cameras shipped back to them. However I told him he can keep my camera for recycle. Now I know this is a ripoff. He got my camera and my battery and my SD card. Buyer beware! It saddens me to give a small business like this a bad review but i have reached out to the store and they don't seem to care about service or customers. Oct 2017- Took my Black Magic Duo Monitor for service repair. Nov 2018- Realized that the repair had indeed not been fixed, the monitor still didn't work. They claim that i had broken the exact same part as was the original problem, despite that it had been sitting in a box for almost 9 months after repair. Dec 2018- I sent it in to Blackmagic to have it professionally repaired, and it was learned that they used epoxy on the motherboard which caused the monitor to short out. If you have a camera that is old and can't be fixed by the original company I think it's a good option to use this business for fixing your camera. Got a digital camera made in 2011 and it broke due to dropping it which gave a lens error on my screen and my lens couldn't retract. I tried many places to get it fixed but all they said was that the camera was too old, that they didn't have to supplies to repair it, which is understandable. I'm giving 3 stars because the starting initial price was $159 and they changed the estimate to $268 with problems with the "lens drive unit unit bin stock which caused an extreme overheat which damaged the lens control circuit as well and it needs to be replaced" (what they said). Pretty sure thats an excuse to charge you more and get more money (my personal opinion) but I had no choice. At least my camera is fixed, which they promised. Took a total process of 3 weeks that means shipping it to them, them fixing it, and shipping it back to me in 3 weeks. They can charge through PayPal or check, I believe, and gave a tracking number when they shipped it back. Just make sure to keep up with your camera and ask questions for confirmation etc. (Just in case yk) To get it back took about a week. The packaging the sent was the camera wrapped in bubble wrap and lots of plastic inside and was taped all around the box. Pretty legit place. Hope this helps! read more

I came here to repair my Fuji X-Pro2 camera. I was having issues with my photos coming out over-exposed (definitely the camera). I picked it up a week or so later and was told it was some kind of electrical issue (I was charged about $280 or so). After a few days with my fixed camera, I had to bring it back and state that the issue wasn't fixed. I left it there for about another week to only be told nothing was wrong with it. Instead, I shipped my camera to the official Fuji repair shop and was told the shutter had to be replaced. I now have it in my possession and it works perfectly now. I basically donated my money to this shop and I'm not 100% sure what my "repair" here did for my camera but lesson learned, I won't be back. read more

My VCR, yes, I still use one. It is a dvd/vhs combo player. Any ways, it stopped working for some reason. I found this place because it's close. They did a great job because it's back up and running. It was pricey. But they told me it was the part that cost the most. That's not why I gave them a three star. It's their lack in customer service. Customer service is 3 stars Repair is 4 stars Price is 5 stars Let's start with repair sent my GoPro in September got it back rather quickly and it working order or so I thought. They do honor their 90 day warranty thank god for that. The camera is water proof and when we got it back we went on vacation in October. Well first time in the water it flooded so I sent it back in when we got back and they fixed it again but I'll use a case now regardless cuz this was inconvenient. Now let's go into customer service. First time around I would have given then 5 stars but the second time around they really didn't communicate with me at all. They just fixed it and sent it back. An email to say they received it or what was wrong or really anything would have been great I had to email them. And the email back wasn't professional like before. It was yeah we got it and were waiting for parts to fix it. Not exactly in those words but basically that was it. Not many people fix these cameras so I may be stuck with them. Prices are reasonable. I really would have loved to given them 5 stars like the rest of the reviews maybe it's just my luck I'd still give them your business because just I had a bad second experience you may not have one considering the other reviews but I do recommend if you have a waterproof GoPro use a case after it's fixed just cause they may no seal it right and be SOL like I was on vacation. read more

Sent my Sony VX in for repairs after getting a 200$ quote. They were sure they knew the problem and would be able to fix it. Turns out there was more wrong with it and it would actually cost 400$. I hesitantly agreed to have them continue to fix it. Over three months later with a big lack communication, it turns out they have no idea what they are talking about and would just send my camera back to me. What a waste of time and money. When I arrived Art was there and greeted me. While there he gave me options to be able to recover the footage from the mini dv's. Sent my Pentax K-3 to repair as it was not holding Date and Time and some special configurations if I took the main battery out to charge it. My thoughts was that the internal backup battery was not holding a charge. Sent in and 2 days later I had a quote after they inspected and diagnosed it. They found that the battery has failed in a way that damaged the board where it was installed. I found the quote good and it was scheduled for repair. Parts where needed and ordered. After repair I was contacted and informed that the camera was been shipped back next day, free by priority mail. I got it back repaired and working fine. Total time for the repair was 3 weeks total, not bad. I had sent other Pentax gear for other repairs to Pentax actual service and it took a couple months because of parts issues. Not this time. I am very happy with this service, fast communications, and specially the fast they did a full diagnostic to the camera, saw the problem and contacted me with the repair quote, parts needed and what they would do after testing. My dog got to my GoPro and cracked the screen. I took it in on Wednesday at 4 but the technician wasn't in so they said he would give me call when he was able to look at it. I get a voicemail at 5 saying that the technician has looked at it and to give them a call back. I call at 10 this morning and he tells me everything that's wrong, what needs to be fixed and the price and asks if I'd like him to fix it, of course I tell him yes and he tells me it will be ready in 2 hours. I call at 12 just to make sure it's ready and it is so I head over and pick it up. The technician was super helpful and was able to get me in and out!
