When I called to ask why, I was simply told that my insurance covered only 50% of the cost. No one mentioned that the office was actually out of network with TRICARE. After contacting TRICARE directly, I learned that the reduced coverage was because the office was out of network. Only after I called the office a second time and specifically asked about it did a staff member finally confirm that they were not an in-network provider. I paid the bill and am not upset about the $77.45 itself. What disappointed me was the lack of transparency. I specifically asked about insurance before scheduling because I wanted to avoid unexpected costs. Had I been told the office was out of network, I would have chosen an in-network dentist. I also emailed the office to share my concerns and give them an opportunity to address the issue before posting a public review, but I never received a response. If you have dental insurance, I recommend confirming not only that they "accept" your insurance, but also whether they are actually in network, as those are not the same thing.

Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of that standard. I initially scheduled my 6-year-old son for a cleaning and evaluation of a problematic tooth that likely required removal. The dental technician we encountered was kind and professional, and I appreciated that the practice focuses solely on children. However, my very first interaction with the office--during the scheduling phone call--was unpleasant. The front desk staff came across as curt and dismissive, and it felt unnecessarily difficult to secure an appointment. This already raised some concern. On the treatment day, my son became anxious when staff attempted to tape a VR headset onto his nitrous oxide mask. We then waited approximately 25-30 minutes for the dentist to enter the room while my child sat in the chair wearing the mask. By the time the dentist arrived, he was understandably restless. My son tolerated the lidocaine injections without resistance, but became uncomfortable once a mouth prop was inserted to hold his mouth open. At that point, I expected calm explanations and reassurance directed toward a young child. Instead, communication felt abrupt and procedural, with little effort to slow down or explain what was happening in a developmentally appropriate way. Within a minute of my son becoming tearful, Dr. Alami stopped and informed me that he would not proceed with any treatment if there was any resistance. I was told that because nitrous oxide and lidocaine "did not work," IV sedation was now required and that oral sedation was not recommended or worth attempting. Dr. Alami explained that based on his 20 years of experience, if nitrous fails, oral sedation will as well. What troubled me most was what appeared to be a zero-tolerance philosophy for normal childhood anxiety. My son is not a difficult patient--he responds extremely well when providers take time to explain procedures and allow him to move at a reasonable pace. Expecting a 6-year-old to exhibit no hesitation during dental treatment is unrealistic, particularly in a pediatric specialty practice. If this is the office's standard approach, it should have been clearly disclosed during the initial visit or before beginning nitrous oxide and administering injections. Subjecting a child to that process only to immediately discontinue treatment was upsetting and unnecessary. I was then referred to the front desk to review financial arrangements. I carry Delta Dental PPO, and was informed that Dr. Alami is the only provider in the practice contracted with that plan. For any IV sedation, Oak Park Dentistry requires full payment for the dental treatment on the day of service, with reimbursement from insurance to follow weeks later. I was quoted $1,430 for one extraction (with space maintainer) and several composite fillings. Additionally, the anesthesiologist--who is not affiliated with their office--requires payment in full at $750 per hour. I was advised the procedure could take approximately 1.5 hours, totaling an estimated $1,125 or more, plus a deposit simply to schedule the appointment (quote is solely for anesthesia). Taken together, the handling of my son's anxiety, the communication style, and the substantial upfront financial requirements led me to decline further treatment. I sought care at another pediatric dental office one week later, and the experience could not have been more different. From the front desk staff to the providers, everything was calm, communicative, and genuinely child-focused. Most importantly, my son responded extremely well and completed treatment without issue--confirming for me that the approach taken here was not the only option. While the technician we worked with was courteous, this practice was not the right fit for our family, and I would strongly encourage parents to ask detailed questions about sedation philosophy, behavioral expectations, and financial policies before proceeding.

I would like to share my recent experience i had with Dr. Bui and the rest of the staff at Tenggren Dental. I was referred to Tenggren Dental by my wife. She has been a patient of theirs' for years. At my first appointment the front desk was very informative and attentive to my needs. I waited for about 5 minutes from the time i walked in the door to the time they called me in. The dentist's assistants were very knowledgeable with any additional questions I had. Additionally, Dr. Bui introduced himself from day one and was there for the rest of my appointments. The work that i had done was deep cleaning; replacement of metal fillings to ceramic; cavities; and a crown. I am very pleased with the work they did on me. During all my appointments Dr. Bui and the staff were friendly; aware of my need; and efficient. All my appointments were about an hour long which is nothing compared to the two hours i had to wait with other dentist. I am very pleased with the way i was treated during the entire process. For certain circumstances i was on a very limited time window to get this done since i was moving to Arizona by the end of the month. I am very thankful that they were able to find time to squeeze me in and expedite the process so i had all my work taken care of by then. Over all i am very satisfied with my experience and Tenggren Dental. Dr. Bui and the rest of the staff are truly capable of delivering top tier quality treatment to their patients. I just got out of Tenggren dental and my mouth is still numb but good numb now that mouth is feeling fresh and cleaner than ever before! Why did I wait so long to get it cleaned? My kids been going to Tenggren for a while and being a busy dad with 3 kids makes it tough. I had an amazing experience with Johanna whom I thought was just so great at what she did. I have been going to Dr. Tenggren for years along with my Husband, my stepdaughter and my son. I have always been so grateful for the service that we have received at this office. I never feel nervous about going to the dentist and I actually love visiting everyone in the office especially my hygienist, Jo. She is wonderful and will leave no tooth uncleaned. Very thorough. I've been coming to Dr. Tenggren's office for many years. The staff are sensitive to anxiety and patient when explaining the work that will be performed. Every dental hygienist and doctor I've seen has been knowledgeable and personable. The pleasant office staff are sympathetic to any emergency dental situation and will help you with flexible appointments late into evenings and even Saturdays. There is almost never a wait to be seen for your appointment. The newer facility is beautiful and inviting with ample magazines and water bottles in the lobby, comfortable exam chairs, a gorgeous bathroom and every room is very clean. I had some pretty extensive gold work done a little over thirty years ago and every Dentist I've seen since that time has remarked on the quality of the work. I have been seeing Dr. Tenggren for a few years and I believe the care and work he and his staff provide is as professional and of as high a quality as I received all those years ago. From the receptionist to my hygienist to Dr. Tenggren the entire staff is exceptional. Dr. Tenggren completed a filling for me in an expedient amount of time with a minimum amount of "filling layover" if you know what I mean. I was impressed by the hygienist's openness to educate the patient in at home oral care tips and tricks. I cannot say enough about the staff and the experience. I primarily go here and have my bi-annual teeth cleaning done. Jo does it and she does a thorough, deep cleaning. I always leave feeling good about my teeth. Recently, I have noticed that Dr. Bui is performing my oral hygiene check up. He seems like a personable enough gentleman, but he has not performed any dental work on me thus far. Mitch is very attentive and spends time explaining everything to you. He thought that I might have sleep apnea, and I did the associated testing. Sure enough my oxygen levels were falling to dangerously low levels at night. He made a sleep guard/appliance that eliminated my snoring, reduced restless sleeping and got my oxygen levels back to normal. I definitely feel refreshed in the morning and more alert during the day.

She repeatedly said, "we'll take good care of you here." I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Setareh the same day, within minutes of me walking through the door. The wait was short lived, with only a few minutes in the waiting room before I was taken into a room to get x-rays. Kimberly was gentle and kind. She always let me know what every different technique of x-rays were for and what was next. Within minutes, I was introduced to Dr. Satareh, who I realized was my dentist, many years prior. She immediately began by explaining her findings from my x-rays and what the most important issues were and which ones to take care of first and why. Through the steps of the procedures, she always asked if I was comfortable and she asked if I was experiencing any pain. She was concerned with my comfort, always. She was gentle and thorough, explaining the procedures and what she would be doing next. I didn't catch Dr Satereh's assistant's name, but she was as professional as any other doctor. She was concerned about my comfort and took care of any problem I had right-a-way. Before I knew it, it was over. I was surprised how smoothly everything went. What is also great about this dental office is the dentists, endodontist and periodontists are all at this one location so, you don't have to travel from one place to the next for these services.

She then continued to push different products so they could feel justified in adding this charge. I would have been able to afford my deep cleaning had they not been trying to pad the bill wherever possible. Woman at the front was condescending when I brought up my concerns. I would never return to this dentist. Ask what is actually needed before signing anything here!
