Customer Service: Arju was welcoming and knowledgeable. I loved how helpful he was in choosing something out of the huge menu. Food: I got the Nutella Achma and it tastes like a delicious, warm brownie! The Simit had a good bread but the egg whites on top were a little runny for me, but next time I'll just ask it to be cooked a little more. It was still delicious though. Nice, small, welcoming, Turkish bakery! They specialized in obviously Simit and Poacha but they also have borek, achma, and other baked goods. All the breads are made in house. We got the Simit w/ soujouk and cheese, Poacha w/ salami mozzarella jalapeños, Nutella achma, borek w/ ground beef and onions, and a classic Simit. Everything was priced on a higher end in my opinion. There is no other bakery like this one that I know of in Houston, which may explain the pricing. Anyways, my faves have to be the Nutella achma ($5) and the Borek w/ ground beef and onions ($4). The achma was like a dry cinnabon w/ Nutella inside. It was heavenly and perfectly sweet. The borek was the inside of a patechaud. It was fluffy, soft, and had a nice chewiness. Lovely textures! As for the Poacha ($4) and Simit ($4 for meat, $2 for classic), they were decent. Not something to laud about. Both were exactly like a kolache. My biggest complaint with these two is that there was too much bread than filling. I did like the layer of sesame on top of both the Simit and the jalapeños inside the Poacha. These were definitely the kicker. Disclaimer: everything was to-go and eaten at room temperature. This was the first time I came here and it was delicious. I couldn't pronounce some words (foods) but it tasted freshly made. The bread tasted homemade and it was hot when served. The people were nice and friendly. You walk in the restaurant to see it small but very clean and the atmosphere was perfect. I would come here again and recommend this food. read more

My favorite item to order is definitely the achma. It's like a bagel and it comes in a few flavors - regular, mozzarella, olive paste, and nutella. The poacha is also really good. This place is carbs heaven! As a Turk in the US my major complaint has always been the lack of Turkish bakeries and classic Turkish staples like poacha and simit. Well, we recently moved to Houston, and there's a place called Simit and Poacha! A dream come true! Naturally I went crazy and had a bunch of stuff, about half of it to go. The "Chorek" (ay çöreği) is absolutely perfect, it's the exact same as the best ones in Turkey, and there is quite a variation there. I also had the su borek (a must have), simit (of course! you HAVE to have the simit, with cream cheese in between it's even better), fetha poacha, mozarella achma, and the pistachio burma dessert (antep fıstıklı burma). I usually find pistachio desserts to be too intense, the burma was soooo light! the pistachios also must have been super fresh, which is so key! Oh and yes you MUST have at least one cup of tea to wash pastry down, that is the Turkish way. Their tea was also very delicious. The poacha is superbly authentic. The achma tasted more like a poacha to me than the achmas I'm used to in Turkey, but those also have 3 times as much butter in them, so I can understand the choice to tone it down (although it is the South so maybe there was no need to? :D), delicious regardless. Also, you won't get this quality of food at this price anywhere else. I found the prices quite fair and even pretty modest. I wish I lived close by so I could go here more often. I'll just have to stock up every time I make it there! read more

He also told us his honest opinion on which tastes better and made suggestions. Each item had its own distinct flavor and you could tell it was just made today. I was so excited to find this place but wasn't sure what a Turkish Café would be like on the outskirts of Houston. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! I saw this place driving to Phonecia Specialty Foods and stopped by one afternoon. The pasty case was sparse but the owner(?) was friendly and invited me to stop by again for breakfast. I had never had a Turkish breakfast before and brought my mom later that week around opening time. Owner was again, friendly, and very amenable to suggestions and explanations. He pointed out the types of doughs of which each pasty was made and likened the simit to a bagel and poacha to kolaches. Thorough explanations that really assisted my mom and I in choosing our breakfast! We ended up selecting a limit with mozzarella and a freshly cracked egg and a spinach and cheese borek. The owner warmed up the borek and brought it out to us while the simit was made. The borek reminded me of a Greek spanakopita with its filo dough flakiness and flavors, but was not as crisp as I would have preferred. The simit with the egg and mozzarella was fantastic - the owner is correct tin that the simit's texture is similar to that of a bagel. The sesame seeds were plentiful and provided a contrasting texture to the over-easy egg and melty cheese. The simit came out on a metal platter with some wax paper and that did make it more difficult to share and/or take it to go, but I will certainly be back. read more

The staff members are always friendly greets you with a lovely smile The craftsmanship of the work they do is superior to any other Turkish bakery ! "Phoenicia " not throwing names around. Simits are so delicious soft in the middle and you get that crunchy out side with those delicious imported sesame seed you really taste the quality. The rest of the bake good.
