Stumbled on to this place when other joints all had a wait. It is very small and everyone else was speaking Turkish. The owner was very friendly and did a very nice job explaining the foods I hadn't heard of. It's basically a bakery that makes delicious savory breads with different " sandwich" combos. They also have sweet pastries. They roll out the dough fresh daily and you can really taste it. They seemed to have a steady flow of regulars coming in, mostly for take out. The owner knew most of the customers so he must have good Poacha. I will definitely be back next time I'm on the west side at breakfast/brunch time read more

Went here for breakfast and got the Nutella Poacha which was very good. The Simit with egg and soujouk was good but not great. The sesame seeds were nicely toasted adding great flavor and the egg and sausage were all good individually, but they didn't come together well. Everything they make here is from scratch, delicious and daily made. You can never go wrong with their savory pastries. Try achma with olive paste. Simit is a favourite in Turkey. Especially morning commuters grab simit from street vendors and go on with their breakfast while they commute. This is a hard to find pastry similar to bagel with a different texture. Make sure you also try the chorek. Sweet pastry with cocoa, raisin, walnut center. Their spinach quiche is fluffy and tasty. I'm not a big coffee drinker so hard to comment on the coffee. They serve Katz Coffee. I really hope they get a tea pot for Turkish style black tea since it is a must with simit and poacha. read more

New to our neighborhood, I was excited to give this new Turkish bakery a try. It was a bustling Sunday morning, but I didn't have to wait. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly, explaining the different pastries and making recommendations when I asked. There is a place to sit and the inside was clean, but it's more a place to pick up and take home. They offer a nice assortment of savory and sweet items. I decided to try 2 of each, the first was the delicious olive bread, the texture was light and tender, with a paste of olive rolled in. Next up was a small round filled with a feta like cheese and rolled in parsley, the exterior was again very tender with vibrant cheese filling (not baked in) and the parsley flakes to compliment. Onto the sweets, I tried a roll which tasted like an enriched dough with nutella added in, so scrumptious and not overwhelming sweet. I also got a half moon with a few almond slices on top that has rich Turkish flavors like cinnamon, raisins and almond, very yummy. Overall I felt like the flavors were all nicely balanced, without being too assertive. It was about $10 for all 4 items, so reasonable for sure. I definitely recommend giving them a try. read more

I am in love. I grew up in Europe and spent my twenties in NYC. I know a thing or two about a proper bakery. THIS is a proper bakery. Treats look soft, light, and delicious under the glass-later they prove themselves so. The bread with olive paste...superb! The cherry fruit tart...pleasingly tasty! The pair who run the shop are friendly and kind. There are a few tables and chairs and free wifi. There are several coffee carafes to choose from. I like the idea of coming here to get work done. I first came tot his bakery at the recommendation of some friends from my congregation. Upon entering you're senses are blessed with scent of fresh baked pasties and coffee. It's the kind of scent that you can like. To a traditional pastry shop. The owners were lovely and happily explained each pastry to us. I ended up getting a little bit of everything and EVERYTHING was delicious. They also have breakfast sandwiches on a crossant like bun (that are AMAZING). I came to Simit & Poacha in the morning, around 10am and found that it wasn't too busy. There was someone in line when we got there and a group seating for breakfast. We order the simit, which is the large bagel looking donut whole, served with an egg in the middle and the poacha served with egg and mozzarella cheese. The poacha was standard like any other egg and cheese sandwich. My son ate it in pieces and enjoyed it a lot. The simit seems harder than a bagel to me. Perhaps that's how it's suppose to be. The egg was poached so I peeled off some of the bread and dipped it in, which was really good and helped to soften the bread a bit. I enjoyed getting out of my food comfort zone and trying a Turkish breakfast. The attendee were extremely nice and helpful. They even played with my son and offered him dough in the kitchen to play with. They also brought out complimentary pastries for the seated patrons. It didn't get five stars because it was a little messy when we came in and it took a while to get it cleaned due to there only being one person at the register/tables. This was a wonderful, delicious surprise. I wish I'd come in sooner! I had the pide with ground beef and mozzarella. It was buttery and light and so good. When she gave it to me I said it was so much food. Then I proceeded to snarf every bite and considered licking the plate. In my defense, it does "deflate" so thankfully it's not as full as it looks at first. But truly, I was piggish...I couldn't help myself. Then on top of all that I had a blueberry fruit tart. Not too sweet. And the crust looks to be hard but it's like a soft cookie. Cinnamon and nutty...another win. I shall return!! For sure. Go!! read more
