For hot pot restaurants in the Bay Area, I have taken note that most all of them are flat-rate / per-person. That said, Simmer Huang arguably has the BEST, most reasonable pricing. Don't let the fair pricing fool you, it is a really nice restaurant!! The interior is incredibly clean & well maintained, it's a whole experience having dinner there. After dinner (if you have children, this is key) they give you a scoop of ice cream, which is included with your dinner / lunch. I took my little daughter there once, for lunch, during daddy-daughter day. She REALLY enjoyed it. They have great meat options & the noodles, vegetables, etc - you go grab yourself, buffet style. So you go load a plate with whatever you'd like to add to your cook pot, along with the meat. They have little soft boiled quail eggs that you can add to your pot - HIGHLY recommend!! They have, if I recall, 4 or 5 different soup bases to choose from. I've had three thus far & they have all been incredibly good. PLEASE NOTE - the spicy one is no joke, I am a spicy food connoisseur & I will admit, even on my "0-10" scale, that red spicy soup base was easily an 8. Interestingly enough albeit very spicy, the red soup base has excellent flavor; in other words it's not just pure pain & terror & capsaicin overdose... It's spicy AND very flavorful. Give these guys a try!! We will definitely be returning, although this has to be more of a quarterly thing. As eating hot pot with little kids is NOT easy for parents - constantly making sure they don't spill boiling soup on themselves. What we did was asked for a bowl / plate; so we could serve the children the various meats, noodles, vegetables after they were cooked... Also to prevent the children from sticking spoons into a vigorously boiling pot. (SAFETY NOTE - the cook pots are directly in the table, built-in cooktops. So be vigilant with small children. The wait staff will give you a tutorial on how to increase/decrease the heat on the burner and/or how to shut it off when you're done cooking. Aside from my concern of the children burning themselves, it is an EXCELLENT experience for kids nevertheless). read more

Overall I'd give Simmer Huang a 4/5 because the weekday lunch ayce deal is hard to beat, but not without a few comments. During my visit veggie/sides bar was a bit limited and the sauce/condiment bar was definitely under stocked. I read reviews online that there was also a hot food bar that would be open, but by the time I came in around 1:30, it wasn't available so maybe I needed to come earlier? What saves it from being a lower rating is that the beef quality was surprisingly really good. It took a while for it to come out, but I was shocked at how tender and well marbled it was. Although this restaurant has unfortunately closed, I still have many great memories of dining here. The food was always delicious, generously portioned, and very affordable for the quality. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and a wonderful place to enjoy a meal with family and friends. It was one of those neighborhood spots that made you feel comfortable every time you visited. Came here during their weekday happy hour or weekday special which is AYCE for $18.99! Great deal for hot pot! They didn't have any fancy meat menu, it was just: chicken, pork, beef, or lamb. Easy as that! The cut is different each order, for example, we ordered beef three separate times and they were all different cuts! Lol but it was still good and for all you can eat for $18.99 I do not mind! They had a good amount of toppings but not too much, just kept it to your simple veggies and noodles. They do have side hot dishes you can order on the side though. Service was great! Our server checked in on us and was quick to get what we needed. This is an all you can eat Hot Pot spot on the back side of the Mall on the 2nd story, it's right above Jack's Restaurant. They've got pretty simplistic choices, which is good. Basically for $25 a head you get pork, beef, & one other meat, you can go and pick your veggies, noodles, sauces, etc, bring it over to your table and then cook your stuff however you want. Now I hesitated a bit on this last part, but I think the feedback will help this business. I had to get up to ask for more napkins once, then again for more water, then again for more food toppings, each time buddy was on his phone sitting down. Now I get it's not as busy, maybe 3-4 tables at this point for late lunch, you want to chill. Fine, but for me to get up that many times, and them not check on our table to the point we run out of water, napkins, etc? C'mon, if I get up 1 time, then that should alert them to check on you, let alone a 2nd time, then 3rd. Unacceptable in any sit down restaurant scenario. read more

This restaurant is a hot contender for worst restaurant I've had the displeasure of eating at in California. We arrived around 9:30 PM or so, and the restaurant closes at 12 AM. Got the $14.99 AYCE, which is one plate of meat and AYCE from the seafood/vegetable bar (and apparently it also included cooked foods at some point, which I saw in other reviews?? Well, there were none on our visit). Many tables weren't cleaned and still laden with dirty plates, which only got cleared maybe half an hour into our meal. There was two hours and thirty minutes until closing (and more parties came after us), but the staff never bothered to refill the vegetables/seafood or the sauce bar. What am I even paying for if I'm getting AYCE, but the AYCE options are just not refilled? I guess the staff were playing All-You-Can-Elude? Some of the vegetable trays sat empty the entire meal, in addition to water-logged sausages and fish that just sat uncovered all night. The watermelon looked like it was ready for a college admission letter with how old it was. Sauce bar was half empty, and remained half empty. To add insult to injury, they don't clean the vegetables properly. Check out the dirt on that bok choy. You get to wash it off in your soup. Actually, maybe that's a good thing, because the soup is incredibly bland here and the dirt might add flavor. The rice was also simultaneously half mushy and overcooked, and half hard and undercooked. Kind of an achievement, so bravo. Inedible. As for the final straw - when paying, I wanted to tip 10% because they provided half the food we paid for. The waiter couldn't get their tablet to work, went to the counter, then came back ready to tap to pay. I should've checked, but he apparently decided he deserved a 20% tip for unclean tables, unwashed vegetables, & unrefilled and missing items in the "AYCE". So my card company's getting to hear about that one, nice. It sounds like some people have had good experiences here. I'd rather join the Newpark Mall rats diving into the Costco dumpsters before eating here again. Don't come here when Fremont has so many good hot pot places. read more

They've got two options: * $14.99 "limited AYCE" - one plate of meat (beef, pork, or chicken) plus unlimited veggies, dumplings, fish balls, wings, orange chicken, and other sides. * $18.88 AYCE - basically go crazy with more meat, and still way cheaper than most other hot pot places around. The soup base is solid, the flavors are on point, and you definitely don't walk out hungry. My group of friends came here on thanksgiving night and it was our first time here. We all decided to get the all you can eat hot pot. It was the best decision ever with the cold weather. Much to our delight there was sweets of candy and complimentary jasmine milk tea and I think a pomegranate drink with boba and fruits on the side to choose from. To add, there was even ice cream. I came here on a Saturday night expecting to have a good time with a friend and catch up on life but that didn't happen. There was a family, that seemed to be friends with the owners, letting the kids karaoke the same song over and over again, at least six or seven times. There were times the kids even played random songs from that movie, "K-Pop Demon Hunter". This happened the entire time we were there and came close to walking out before the food even came to our table. When the food finally arrived, it was dry and almost flavorless. They didn't bring out our utensils, our canned drinks weren't brought out until we were half way into finishing our meal, they were not at all attentive to us. However, they were fully attentive to that family with the kids the entire time we were there. It's safe to say we're not coming back. read more

I went here twice before, and I wanted to leave a review. The ambiance is really good, it has that contemporary Chinese flair that is popular right now and apparently also has live music (although no one was playing at the times I went). The price is really good for lunch, about $30ish per person AYCE. There is simple selections of meat including chicken, lamb, beef, the sort. And there are a decent selection of soups. I tried the Beef Tallow Spicy Sichuan one and It was really well done. They also have lobsters and other seafood upon request, and they were really well done too for the price. The sauce bar is good. It has your typical Soy Sauce, Zhejiang Vinegar, Garlic, etc. If they added a bit more different varieties that would be great, like Ponzu or Hong Kong Soy Sauce. Of the times I came here, I never really needed to order more from the original order. They always seem to put out just enough. The most important thing for me though, was that their ingredients were really good. In most places that I eat, I typically get a bit bogged down/bloated or I might get some brain fog after. After eating here, I did not get that feeling at all and I feel much more refreshed/satisfied than usual. I know this is a personal thing, but that means a lot to me. Of the things to improve upon, I think the menu does need to be a bit more clear. There is a feeling that only the side food bar is unlimited, but the rest are not. The breakfast menu does not seem very clear, as I cannot tell if this is a one time serving or if it is AYCE as well. The rear area with the self-serving also is a bit confusing. Perhaps some more frills to go with it would improve the overall experience. The other reviews stated that the service was not very good; this may have been the case before but the times I been there the wait staff has been very attentive so maybe they have been listening. Jack's Restaurant tends to eat up a lot of the attention, but this little nook in New Park is sorely needed as the mall is pretty dead inside. We had to try yet another new spot for hot pot. We went pretty late night and it did take quite awhile to get the preparation to the table. Definitely make sure to allocate time for this restaurant. It is a bit expensive if you are just coming for the food. One nit pick on the summer soup is that the red meats need a lot more time to cook than seafood and fish items. The lobster and shrimp were a bit overcooked, but luckily the fish can take being a bit overcooked in the broth. The very spicy is also not very mala, so not hot spicy at all really, with only minimal numbing/tingling. The real attraction seems to be an amazing karaoke/videoke setup that anyone can use. As we were late night we had the whole setup to ourselves and while I am not a big participant, my partner is and she had a great time! It was fun to watch and interact. We may be back for the mix of food and karaoke. I give it four stars only because it took so long, as everything else was wonderful. As long as you're good with a smaller selection of meats, veggies, noodles, etc. compared to some of the other local hot pot places, it's perfect for $15 (unlimited bar items, one plate of meat) to $19 (unlimited bar items and plates of meat). This is a decent option for a hotpot at the Newpark mall. I got a beef rice noodle soup and a scallion pancake were decent. They have a giant screen which was playing a relaxing video of life in Vietnam on YouTube which was interesting. Our waiter was super nice. read more

TLDR: Do not waste your money at this place. Their business practice is extremely scammy. I went to this place around 8pm wanting some AYCE hot pot. I asked the difference between the $14.99 and $18.88 options and was told that the $14.99 option gives me 1 plate of meat and unlimited cold/frozen foods, while the $18.88 option gives me unlimited meat, cold/froze AND hot food options. It sounds great, so I went with the $18.88 option and this is when the scam starts. As I wait for the hot pot soup base to be prepared, I went to the hot food section to get some ready to eat foods. A lot of the food options are almost empty, so I got whatever I can and really liked the beef/onion stir fry they had. I then notify the waiter that the hot food need to be refilled, then that's when the waiter told me that they are not going to refill the hot food section any more. I was very confused, since I literally just sit down and were told about how great their AYCE options are. So after some more back and forth with the waiter, turns out they stop making food when they are close to closing time, even through its only 8pm and their closing time is suppose to be mid night. I was extremely disappointed, but decide to eat the unlimited meat and cold/frozen foods instead. When I went to the cold/frozen food bar, I notice that 80~90% percent of the options are already empty. So I ask the waiter if the cold/frozen food would be refilled and they told me that it will. As I continue eating just the meat and see no one refilling the cold/frozen food, I decide to just eat what I have. Over an hour have passed and I was ready to leave, they finally refilled the cold/frozen food. This whole experience was extremely scammy. They could have told me ahead of time that the hot food section would not be refilled before I paid for my AYCE. Even then, there should not be any excuse on why cold/frozen foods are empty, since the left overs can easily be stored in the refrigerator and reuse the next day. We had no business coming to newpark mall other than to get niche Christmas gifts. By the end of our mall run we were needed sustenance and decided to go with the first place we saw. It was somewhat empty when we walked in, so we weren't sure what to expect but it ended up being a great experience! I liked that they had a massive wall screen streaming people cooking lol. Sometimes it's nice to just sit in silence with your partner and watch people cook. The screen up top felt gratuitous but didn't bother me much, glad I was sober lol. My husband and I came here about a month ago because it was open till 2am and we were starving after the movies. We couldn't believe it had AYCE hot pot for $18.88 per person. Selection of veggies and non-meats were okay and the meat choices were only beef, pork and shrimp but can't beat that price. We have been back a couple times now and it's what we expect each time BUT... the karaoke is a lot to handle for our ears. It's really loud and as much as we don't mind people enjoying themselves singing their hearts desire, karaoke is karaoke. We hope that the owners would consider offering only certain time/day/nights they will have karaoke so we know which day/night we can go and be able to enjoy a nice conversation with our dinner. A mediocre dining experience at best, from start to finish. It was around 7PM on a Friday and it was completely empty. It took really long for our food to come out. We started off with the Lamb Skewers and Pepper Salt Chicken Wings which were quite tasty, but the portion was so small! I didn't attach a picture but we also had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup which was good too. Then for the star of the show, which took over 30 minutes to come out, was the semi burnt "Super Spicy" Chicken & Beef Carnival Pot. It was really disappointing in terms of both flavor, quantity, and execution. The vegetables inside were unevenly cooked, with some being mushy and others being near raw. Ingredients towards the bottom were burnt. The amount of meat they give for $63 seems skimpy. And for us to order the "Super Spicy" level and receive a very mild sweet flavor was underwhelming. I also ordered white rice on the side and it was overcooked, dry, and hard. Messing up rice is crazy! The place itself is huge and very spacious.
