At first glance, we thought the menu might be a little too diverse, but the team executed every dish exceptionally well and far exceeded our expectations. On a Sunday evening, just hours after the World Cup Final, we were pleasantly surprised by the care and attention from both the front-of-house staff and the kitchen. Every dish arrived thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The flavor popped, ingredients were fresh, and the textures were notable. Our selectiosn tonite included the elote, cauliflower ceviche, ahi tostada, birria, and the Seoul burger. We heard the restaurant has only been open for a few months, and if this is the level of quality they deliver on a mellow Sunday night, we have very high hopes for Toast & Tonique. Suchhh a fun spot! I came with two friends and we tried a little bit of everything on their menu. Our collective favorite dish had to be the butter chicken wings (flavorful with slight sweetness & very meaty). I also really enjoyed the Ahi Tuna Tostada (light, refreshing, zesty & fresh) along with the oyster mushroom bao buns (earthy, herby, and juicy). For drinks, my favorite was the Beullubeli which featured vodka, blueberry syrup, fresh lemon and elderflower. My friends said the Ube Esperesso Martini was excellent. The Ambiance was pretty good. The restaurant was designed nicely and the atmosphere was good. Although my salad was soggy, the food was okay, but it wasn't what I asked for . I told the server I wanted the Smoked Salmon Toast, but asked if I could replace the poached egg on top with something else like some avocado. She said it could be done and read my order back to me to confirm. She end up coming out and giving me an avocado toast instead. I asked whether there was salmon under it because I was confused but she thought I asked her to replace the salmon with the avocado. As a result I asked if I could just get a plate of smoked salmon on the side. Guess what she brought out. A plate of GRILLED salmon . At that point I just felt bad and stopped asking. She was nice and left the grilled salmon off my tab for the mistake she made which was really considerate of her though. Had heard many wonderful things about TOAST & TONIQUE; it's the weekend and didn't have breakfast yet, finally made it to brunch, was pleasantly surprised. Where to begin? Located inside a very busy plaza; parking is free as there is a huge parking lot was available but very busy and crowded. Upon entering, I noticed that the waiting area is quite spacious. Lovely ambience, very chic! Seating is available while you check in and wait for a table. As we were a party of two and we didn't have a reservation, the hostess at the front desk informed me that the wait time is about 20 mins or I can be seated very soon if I choose bar seating. So, we chose bar seating and we were seated immediately. We were greeted immediately while seated at the bar and we ordered drinks and entrees. As it's brunch, menu for brunch was available. For the drinks, we had chose the cappuccino and chai tea and for the entrees, we chose the chocolate pancakes and steak & eggs. Our drinks were ready within five minutes and our entrees were brought to us about fifteen minutes later. Was a little disappointed in the drinks; the chai was very watered down and bland, tasted very watered down. Didn't finish the drink. Portions for our entrees, however, were decent sized and it was good. The staff is very kind and did check in on us, very patient and friendly. I would definitely return in the future; very open to trying something new on the menu. Very clean restaurant. Lovely presentation and quality; the food is good; reasonably priced. From the mouthwatering scent of butter chicken alone, I knew I'd like the flavor of the wings. It's more on the sweet side so more fusion for sure. Comes with creamy cabbage slaw. Six wings for six dollars!! Check the menu for normal pricing. HH will be your best friend. Street corn was solid! Fries had actual sautéed minced garlic. Nice touch. Tots were topped with avocado and melted shredded cheese. Oyster mushrooms were meaty with a grilled char flavor. I had a bite of fried fish-- huge piece! I was super hungry for meat during dinner since my earlier brunch was more vegetarian so I scarfed down the loco moco patty. It was cooked well done. I wonder if most people expect to be asked temperature preference. The gravy was not what I expected. It was more Korean with the same sweet charred flavor as the oyster mushrooms. I wanted the traditional brown gravy. It wasn't bad, just not my preference. The rice was saturated with sauce and a tad undercooked. Maybe fluff up the rice a bit and use a bowl to shape it before crowning it with the patty, eggs, and gravy. Eggs were nice and runny! No complaints about them. Chocolate lava cake ended the meal on the sweetness note. Soft and moist chocolate cake with a hot melted center oozing out with each spoonful. Cool vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries rounded it out. Sophisticated, modern interior with wooden accents and cool light decor. My dad and I went here last week and the interior is really cute, parking was easy, tucked in the corner. I ordered a chai latte with banana foam. I was misheard and received a matcha at first, second go I received a dirty chai with no banana foam. Finally on the 3rd try one of the baristas delivered the drink directly to me and it was finally what I ordered. I don't think I'd order the banana foam again from here. This place popped up through a notification about new restaurants in my area so I decided to give it a try. The staff was extremely attentive upon entering and quickly seated us. Our waitress brought us meus and then began going through a list of items on the menu that were not available. I noticed a strong unpleasant smell coming from the menu itself, I think it was the material they used. At a first glance of the menu it was a little overwhelming, not necessarily from the options itself but more so all the different flavor profiles. I think there are too many different types of food and should stick with things that bring more consistency. Some of the food was unfortunately under cooked and two of the drinks were great but the third one was not good. The pineapple upside down cake was good the churros not so much. Our waitress said we ordered more of the popular items from the menu and shared the Happy Hour times as well as the brunch menu with us. This is a nice big establishment that has great potential it just needs to review what works and what does not. The menu described it as coming with eggs Benedict, but it seemed more like over-easy eggs than a traditional eggs Benedict. The KFC & Waffles were decent, though I've had better waffles at other brunch spots. I also ordered the fresh orange juice, but it didn't taste freshly squeezed--it seemed like it may have been diluted with regular orange juice. I asked the waitress about it, and she assured me it was fresh. I also had two rose coffees, which were good. They were rich, strong, and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. I couldn't wait to try Toast & Tonique because everything I read about it made it sound like the type of place we so desperately need in Newark. We've had a serious lack of restaurants with an interesting menu that serve alcohol, have reasonable prices, and can deliver on ambiance with an attractive, upscale decor. They even serve weekend brunch which was our first experience here. This is where things went slightly downhill with well-prepared but under-seasoned food. I tried their fluffy, cheesy Curry Omelette which was delicious but served along with cold, bland (but well-cooked) country potatoes. My husband described his Birria Skillet more like a Pot Roast Skillet which was also well-cooked but missing the seasonings he was expecting. We also noted that service was a bit slow but not inattentive. They stopped by several times to keep us posted that our food was in the works, so that was appreciated. The bottom line is that this is a low 4 for now, but I couldn't see giving it less when it has so much potential. Any time you try something new that's less than a month old there's a chance it may not go well. That was not the case at Toast & Tonique. This place is a future gem for Newark and something this town hasn't had in forever. The pictures online don't do this place justice. It looks like a simple diner but in reality it's the closest thing to fine dining that you'll find in Newark. The menu isn't overwhelming but they offer so many different cuisines. We started off with the pork belly bao buns and the Mexi-Cali wings. Both were incredible and blew us away. Especially the wings. They offer several different types of wings which is just another reason to keep coming back. My main was the Bombay Sliders which were made with lamb. The lamb was cooked perfectly. My only gripe would be the amount of sauce made it somewhat difficult to eat. The highlight of the evening, beyond the food, was the service from Megan. She knew the menu well and was conversational with us. She was incredibly friendly as was the rest of the staff. The manager, Eric, came by and chatted with us for a bit as well. I really hope Toast & Tonique succeeds and stays in Newark for a long time. I know we'll do our part to keep this place going. We can't wait to come back and try more of this menu! read more

There's a long bar inside and nice booth seating, and the windows let in a nice amount of natural lighting. Service did take a little while, especially for how empty the place was when we arrived. The Banana Espresso was very nice, with a clear espresso flavor that wasn't overpowered with sweetness that other places might do. The Spanish Omelette was refreshing as well. It's made of egg whites and some veggies, so I wouldn't expect something like a Spanish tortilla. But the egg white omelette is a light flavor, and the fresh jalapeños layered on top add a nice kick of spice. The Loaded Korean skillet was interesting, but as a breakfast food for me it was heavier than I'd personally like. Two sunny-side up fried eggs layered on top of mini-pancakes, Korean fried chicken, kimchi, American cheese, and a bed of tatter tots sounds like a good time, but I felt like the flavors didn't mesh as well as I'd like when put all together. GREAT brunch spot to bring a date or even the fam! From the outside, you would even Not think the place is so fancy inside, but everything is brand new & lots of tv's around along with chandeliers. The rice was hard too. My friend got the coffee NY steak which sounded intriguing, but it was really tough to cut into and chew even though it was medium rare. I had the S&S Chicken BBQ as an entree and it was so amazing. Had coleslaw on the side which was delightful. For starters we had the cauliflower ceviche and the Elote.
