It's fancy, trendy, upscale, a place where you'd take your girl on a date or family for fun night. Saw this place on instagram and also our friends recommended this. The drinks were so tasty, strong, trendy and instagramable. For apps we got fried pickles. Am a pickle lover so I liked it. We got the Bombay chicken sliders. This place popped up through a notification about new restaurants in my area so I decided to give it a try. The staff was extremely attentive upon entering and quickly seated us. Our waitress brought us meus and then began going through a list of items on the menu that were not available. I noticed a strong unpleasant smell coming from the menu itself, I think it was the material they used. At a first glance of the menu it was a little overwhelming, not necessarily from the options itself but more so all the different flavor profiles. I think there are too many different types of food and should stick with things that bring more consistency. Some of the food was unfortunately under cooked and two of the drinks were great but the third one was not good. The pineapple upside down cake was good the churros not so much. Our waitress said we ordered more of the popular items from the menu and shared the Happy Hour times as well as the brunch menu with us. This is a nice big establishment that has great potential it just needs to review what works and what does not. I would like to visit for brunch and hope to give a brighter review next visit. read more

The only good thing about this restaurant was the ambiance. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing due to poor service. Despite confirming my daughter's order twice, it was still prepared incorrectly. Our server was unable to answer basic questions about the menu and did not inform us that brunch service was ending soon. We placed our order at 1:45 PM, but the food did not arrive until 2:15 PM. To make matters worse, when we requested a side of toast with our meal, we were told it could not be accommodated because brunch service had already closed. I'd recommend training the servers to answer customers' questions and making sure the kitchen staff can follow any special instructions requested by customers. read more

I couldn't wait to try Toast & Tonique because everything I read about it made it sound like the type of place we so desperately need in Newark. We've had a serious lack of restaurants with an interesting menu that serve alcohol, have reasonable prices, and can deliver on ambiance with an attractive, upscale decor. They even serve weekend brunch which was our first experience here. This is where things went slightly downhill with well-prepared but under-seasoned food. I tried their fluffy, cheesy Curry Omelette which was delicious but served along with cold, bland (but well-cooked) country potatoes. My husband described his Birria Skillet more like a Pot Roast Skillet which was also well-cooked but missing the seasonings he was expecting. We also noted that service was a bit slow but not inattentive. They stopped by several times to keep us posted that our food was in the works, so that was appreciated. The bottom line is that this is a low 4 for now, but I couldn't see giving it less when it has so much potential. We heard from the servers that kinks are still being worked out in the kitchen over the menu and we'll definitely be back to enjoy the evolution. read more

We had a great experience here! We first noticed that it was tastefully decorated and the host and server were friendly. In fact, all of the employees seemed to have a very good attitude and work ethic. They told us that they recently expanded their menu and were very accommodating to requests. I ordered the garden skillet, I think it was called. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. Everything tasted delicious and fresh and I really appreciated the big mushroom pieces. Any time you try something new that's less than a month old there's a chance it may not go well. That was not the case at Toast & Tonique. This place is a future gem for Newark and something this town hasn't had in forever. The pictures online don't do this place justice. It looks like a simple diner but in reality it's the closest thing to fine dining that you'll find in Newark. The menu isn't overwhelming but they offer so many different cuisines. We started off with the pork belly bao buns and the Mexi-Cali wings. Both were incredible and blew us away. Especially the wings. They offer several different types of wings which is just another reason to keep coming back. My main was the Bombay Sliders which were made with lamb. The lamb was cooked perfectly. My only gripe would be the amount of sauce made it somewhat difficult to eat. The highlight of the evening, beyond the food, was the service from Megan. She knew the menu well and was conversational with us. She was incredibly friendly as was the rest of the staff. The manager, Eric, came by and chatted with us for a bit as well. We came here for brunch, which is served from 8-12 (the rest of the menu can only be preferred after 12). There's a long bar inside and nice booth seating, and the windows let in a nice amount of natural lighting. Service did take a little while, especially for how empty the place was when we arrived. We ordered the Banana Espresso, the Korean Loaded skillet, and a Spanish Omelette. The Banana Espresso was very nice, with a clear espresso flavor that wasn't overpowered with sweetness that other places might do. The Spanish Omelette was refreshing as well. It's made of egg whites and some veggies, so I wouldn't expect something like a Spanish tortilla. But the egg white omelette is a light flavor, and the fresh jalapeños layered on top add a nice kick of spice. The Loaded Korean skillet was interesting, but as a breakfast food for me it was heavier than I'd personally like. Two sunny-side up fried eggs layered on top of mini-pancakes, Korean fried chicken, kimchi, American cheese, and a bed of tatter tots sounds like a good time, but I felt like the flavors didn't mesh as well as I'd like when put all together. We asked for ketchup and hot sauce, which arrived in separate small trays. The hot sauce was gochujang, and wasn't as spicy as I'd like. read more

Now is a risky time to start a restaurant business with all the tech lay offs taking place in the Bay Area. I really hope this one makes it. The bar is beautiful and spacious. The interior is well designed. The food is different from what's being served by other eateries in that plaza. Food is amazing! Full stop and that's all that matters. This amazing spot just opened in Newark, CA outside Fremont. Only 2 weeks in and the food is solid! I had the S&S Chicken BBQ as an entree and it was so amazing. Had coleslaw on the side which was delightful. For starters we had the cauliflower ceviche and the Elote. Both were awesome especially the elote. Ambiance is really nice and chill. People are super nice but the servers need a little more work. Again super nice just very green and missing the little things. But that's ok. They'll only get better and this is a diamond in the rough in Newark. Come here and then come back. The decor is nice and inviting, the food is amazing, the drinks are off the hook but the friendly staff made it PERFECT! Upon entering we were greeted by a gentleman with a great smile who took us to our table. Then came Joy to take our orders. She suggested a cocktail called Beullubeli which has vodka and their house made blueberry syrup -- DEEEELISH!! I wanted to have more but didn't. A fascinating place. Hidden inside an otherwise humble strip mall is this very stylish, luxurious, and upscale restaurant. I was actually quite shocked walking in - it was like being teleported to the type of establishment you'd expect to see in San Francisco or the Peninsula, not in Newark. The menu was unique as well. It had dishes from all over the place. Korean Fried Chicken was listed next to Fish & Chips and next to Samosa Burgers. I came in expecting an American restaurant sort of theme, but it kind of defies categorization. Think of the Cheesecake Factory's diversity, but with a much smaller and manageable menu. Keep in mind that brunch, which seems to have a lot of delectable options, is limited to certain hours. My wife and I ordered the Samosa Burger, Fish & Chips, and chocolate lava cake. All of them exceeded our expectations, especially the lava cake! I guess I thought that a newer restaurant with such a diverse menu might have mediocre food quality. I was wrong. Expertly done, right out of the gate. Everything was flavorful and the textures were fantastic. Can I go back to talking about the atmosphere? The black walls, the warmly lit bar, the trendy music, and the ketchup served to us in a tiny holder on a large plate? I loved it. Anyway, I'd suggest giving this place a try. Hello everyone, on 5/8/2026, my wife and I WENT TO "Toast & Tonique" for brunch. When we arrived there were employees towards the back of the restaurant, but no one came to greet us. After five minutes I went and found our host. After taking a look at the menu, we both decided on the kimchi omelette and two coffee drinks. I had a banana latte and my wife had a dirty chai latte. The place is beautiful and spacious, with TV's on the walls. The host was really nice as well. The drinks came first, they were really good but not hot. The omelettes came but were over cooked and made with American cheese. My omelet came with tatter tots which were good and my wife's came with hash browns. The food does not come with toast and none is on the menu. This review is not to discourage anyone from trying this restaurant, just my personal experience. All and all I give Toast & Tonique three stars. read more

My partner and I had lunch today at Toast and Tonique, a new spot in Newark tucked into a mostly Asian shopping center. The space is clean and modern, and the menu casts a wide net, pulling from cuisines around the world. She ordered the pesto flatbread with shrimp and enjoyed it, though she noted it arrived warm rather than hot. She also ordered a dirty chai latte without the espresso, which isn't exactly on the menu, but the bartender accommodated her without issue. It came out lukewarm, but they quickly remade it hot without being asked twice. That's a good sign. I went with the Korean fried chicken and fried rice. The chicken was good, roughly six pieces comparable to a single chicken breast. Solid, satisfying, no complaints. I did try to order hot tea and was disappointed to find they didn't carry any. I pivoted to an Arnold Palmer, only to learn they also didn't have iced tea. A little surprising for a restaurant billing itself as a broad, all-day kind of spot. Overall a decent first visit. The food is fine to good, the service was responsive when things needed fixing, and the space is appealing. The beverage program could use some filling out. read more

I tried the BBQ chicken, Crunch Pork, Elote, and the Bombay Slider, and everything came out well-cooked and flavorful. Service was also great. My server was very attentive and genuinely caring. Ok this place just opened officially a week ago, but the soft launch was 3 weeks ago. Anyway, we came for brunch. We were excited to try a number of items on their menu. However, when we arrived there we were told we could only order off the brunch menu. Apparently on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8a-12p they only serve food off the brunch menu. After 12p you can order off the full menu. So basically your brunch options are limited and there are no appetizers/starters or wing options. They have pages of food items before you even get to the brunch menu. Apparently there was another group that came and waited at their table for 45mins until it was noon so they could prefer off the full menu. The place was fairly empty when we arrived at 10:30a and by the time we left more folks were coming in. So they probably knew at noon is when the full menu was available. The place in general was clean and the bar area was nice. Plenty of tables and booths. Restrooms seemed clean and nice. The servers were friendly. The food was ok but didn't knock my socks off. I wasn't blown away by flavors either. For what we were expecting it was just fair. We ordered KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) & Waffles, mexi-cali skillet, and citrus refresher (mocktail). The mocktail probably had the most flavor out of everything we ordered. The waffles already had the syrup on it, which was surprising. We would have thought they would have put that on the side for us to pour over ourselves, but nope. The skillet came out and was not really hot at all. We were honestly disappointed that you can't order other items off the menu during brunch. I'd recommend only giving a brunch menu than the whole menu to see dying brunch times. I'm not sure any of us would rush back. If we did return we will be sure to come when a full menu is available. read more

Was so excited for this new spot. Had appetizers and drinks. 2 cocktails and mocktail for my daughter. She was served the cocktail and tasted it. We asked the server and all our orders were served to different people. The mocktail which looked like a margarita was served to my husband which ordered a martini. We clarified what it was and server reassured us of all the orders. Husband tasted it and definitely fruit juice and tajin rim. Finally I went to bar to clarify the full order and we were right. The cocktails were also served in small wine glasses( like would be served in a flight) for $15 and up. Food was not horrible but not restaurant quality. Kimchi nachos were nachos with 5-6 pieces of kimchi. Ahi tostada was good size but fish tasted a bit chewy. Corn was good but nothing you couldn't make at home. Since it was our first time asked 2 servers what their favorite dish - the first didn't know and second said the corn so this should have been our big HINT. Service is slow. Apps came out before drinks. There were only 4 groups at restaurant during this time. Ambiance is very nice and ample tv's if you are there for sports bar and beautiful bar and entrance.
