Came out for tacos, ended up with a beer to wait it out They have a good selection but not a lot of Lagers. I ended up grabbing the Pure Zen and it's a nice light lager while I'm over here waiting for my tacos from Tacos El Campo. The place is PACKED but that's because of the World Cup going on right now. But occasionally they also have other events that go on throughout the month. Which I'll have to look into another time. The staff are also really helpful with helping you pick a drink, they allow tastings and recommend stuff based your flavor profile. All while being chill guys vibing to the environment. There's plenty of places to sit and they have a bar for solo drinks like myself. One of the very few (if not the only) beer garden in Fremont, tucked in an industrial area south of Auto Mall and Grimmer. The vibes were somewhere in between a brewery and a parking lot tailgate, but overall I thought they have a good concept going. It did seem like they are still a work in progress, but everyone seemed to be enjoying their time. There were a couple of big screen TV's on the wall inside, a separate room with a pool table, and one bathroom. Most people pulled up lawn chairs out in the parking lot and enjoyed their beer in the late afternoon shade. There was also a lively taco stand sharing the same lot, which I didn't try, but there was a constant flux of customers going between the taco stand and Freewheel. Freewheel Brewing is somewhat of local craft brew chain. Their original is on an edge of Redwood City and that one is a brewpub, meaning there is a restaurant attached to a microbrewery. Now they have 2 other tap rooms, so no restaurant at those, just beer taps and maybe some cold snacks to munch on. This one in Fremont and another in San Rafael are both just taprooms. The Fremont one is in an industrial/business park so it looks like a storage unit with roll up doors. It took over another brewery Das Brew within the last couple of years. They did rearrange the space and decorated it to their specs. I do like the new look, it's clean and cohesive. I've seen about 8-10 taps being poured, all their own. Not sure how they are trying to be known now, but when I first visited their original location almost a decade ago, their beer model was to come close to English ales. These are more malty and not as heavily hopped/bitter as American craft brews. And this was in a time when Americans were going crazy for IPA types. So a bold move I thought imo. Traditional English ales also aren't as carbonated as American beers and usually served not as cold. I've actually come to respect those traits as I can taste more of the flavors when it isn't so icy cold. I've only tried 3 brews so far and in what I've experienced they are still a lot closer to that English mode of brews than American styles. Amber ($9/4*) Malty and soft, very English in taste and sensabilities. Surprisingly balanced, the more sips I took, the more I noticed it. Noticeable roasty malt notes blurring it with a brown ale. Kolsch (3.5*) This is a light German Ale. Meant for refreshment on warm days, much like a light lager. This was just a standard light beer to me, similar to golden and/or blonde ales. Nothing was wowing me, nor makes me crave it. But it is clean and drinkable. Goes good with the Mexican food from the food stand outside or bring in your own pizza. Guns of Brixton IPA (3.5*) This is a west coast style IPA so supposed to be pretty hoppy and dank. It is indeed hoppy and bitter but much lighter than most other west coast IPAs out there. Again it took about half a glass for me to appreciate this more. Even though not in-your-face boldness, after a glass or 2, you'll know you're drinking an IPA. And love their Clash references to some of their brew names, again very English and makes me feel like I'm in on a joke/secret. Lol Rounding up. read more

Service was good. We came on a Tuesday after work so it wasn't too busy. The place is small but there's actually a good amount of seating. They also set up some patio chairs outside. I had the guns of brixton which is a west coast ipa. It was good and tasted a bit lighter on the hops than what you would expect from an IPA. Easy to drink. I tried the hazy IPA.. I wasn't really a fan.. i couldn't put my finger on why.. but I ended going with the double IPA. I really enjoyed this one. Would probably go straight for the DIPA next time lol read more

Been a while since I've been over here. Location was previously Das Brew but after trying what Freewheel has to offer, I'm thrilled that they're here... and as an added bonus, tacos in the parking lot in the evenings! Speaking of tacos, I ordered food and obviously had to wait... but what's a better way to wait than having a cold beer? Forgot the guys name behind the counter, asian guy, super helpful and patient while allowing me to sample some of the different offerings until I landed on Laika Space Dog! I'm also happy to report that they have non alcoholic beer options (in a can) if you're looking for that. Great atmosphere inside, people drinking and eating tacos outside, seen people shootin pool... this is definitely going to be my go-to beer drinking destination. read more

Today was the *soft opening* of Freewheel Brewing (former location of Das Brew) and it was a success! We visited just before 6pm and it was a packed house. They have a limited menu right now but will be expanding once they're fully open. The set-up inside is pretty much the same as the former establishment but the furniture and tv are new. There is also a pool table in the front room. There's currently no food menu but there is a Mexican food truck outside if you want a bite to eat. Not sure yet if they will be bringing food to this location. We're super excited to have a new local brewery and will definitely be visiting often! read more

This brewery is at the former Das Brew location. Great place to be with friends and enjoy the selection of beers. This place mimics an English style pub with its color and decorations throughout. They also have a game room with a pool table that you and your friends can use for free. They even provide board games if pool is not your thing. The place is casual and the staff is first rate. Great service and helpful with any questions you may have with any of the bets they sell. On Mondays that have a $6/pint special and a $19 flight of six beers of your chosing. I would give a 5 star review, but it's not kid friendly. We were probably there about 2 hours. We sat inside I noticed one people smoking outside, which I thought ok it's one person maybe it was an accident. Then we changed tables to go outside maybe after 1 hour everything was fine , then there was about 3 people that started smoking in the table next to us. I know it's outside but to me this area is considered part of the brewery. To me the outdoor breweries area should be banned from smoking which includes the area where breweries have the their tables where you could enjoy a beer with your family with kids. read more

Very friendly staff, and the place is clean. Billiards room was closed when we stopped by, but I love how they have board games available. Food service closes before 8 so keep that in mind! Luckily the patrons are so nice and we were able to get a recommendation for food nearby. Another group even brought in their own pizza, so everyone seems super chill. Place is well lit, and the drinks are solid. Wife really likes her stouts, and she swears by the Kranked. I like my sours, so the Paradise Pucker was right up my alley. Definitely will be coming back to try their food options, and this might end up being my go-to spot when friends drop by the house. read more
