I have to say, this was the best experience I've ever had with a mechanic shop. Prior to my current vehicle I typically only had leases which meant I had them serviced at the dealership. However, trusting my community, I went to Simon. And it was the best decision. The pricing is fair. The people are so kind and wonderful. The work is done expertly. My car sounded like a freight train when I brought it in, and I drove away several hours later in complete silence. The service is great as are the people. If you need a mechanic, or even an oil change, this is the place. I would not want to go anywhere else. Based on a friend's recommendation, I decided to get my car checked out here. I was able to easily schedule a drop-off appointment the next day for an unusual sound coming from my tire and an oil change. Staff was very professional and kind. Above all, they did not charge me for my tire issue which ended up being a tire patch fix. I was fully expecting to pay for it because other places usually charge for it. It was the end of the day. Right before the new year. Experienced unexpected difficulty driving on the way home from the hospital. I took it by our usual oil change place. They confirmed my suspicion that there was some sort of leak from the power steering. We took it next door but they stated they were busy and unable to check it out. We drove down the street to Simon's. Even though it was the end of the work day and the lot had plenty of cars in the lot, someone came out and took a quick look at the car. Confirmed that while the lines appeared okay, power steering fluid was leaking from somewhere. Seal, pump failure, etc were possibilities. The parts needed came in right after the first of the year. Car was promptly repaired. Cheaper than originally quoted. The airbag light came on as we went to drive away. They took the car back. Ordered the part required. Repaired it. Cheers! read more

I've been taking my car to Simon's for a number of years now and generally get very good service. Their prices are typically fair and I do not ordinarily have any problems. They re pretty good for most services including oil changes and more major repairs as well. I would prefer to go to them before most places in the area. They give you a summary sheet of everything you need even if you don't get all the repairs done. With that said, regardless of you you end up taking your car to, price around and get multiple opinions. This rule holds especially true if you know little to nothing about car repair. If you are unsure, ask a friend who is a decent mechanic and will give you a fair opinion. Never simply take the mechanics advice and just get the work done.Seek input from multiple sources before shelling alot of money out. A few pointers to get you started: Tires. Hold a penny upside down with Abe Lincoln facing you, and place it in the middle of the tread grooves. If you can see Lincoln's hair or any part of the penny above the head, your tread is too shallow and your tires need replacing.If not, you should be good. If your tire is flat call AAA and get it to a service station. Most places will plug it for under 10 bucks. I keep a portable pump in my car in case i ever get stranded. Plugs into your cigarette lighter. Brakes. Most brake linings are equipped with a metal device that is designed to squeak when its time to get your brake pads replaced. If it is not squeaking, its probably not time to change them . Rotors. If you had rotors put on last time the pads were changed, you probably don't need new rotors. In fact, most rotors will last the life of the car unless you let go metal to metal. Your brake lines should be flushed every 75000 miles or so your cylinders don't go bad. Oil change. Get your oil changed every 3000 miles unless you use full synthetic. An oil change should not cost more than 40 bucks. Coolant, Get it flushed every year in the fall. A lot cheaper to do yourself. If you have a shop do it, it will cost around around 80 bucks. A gallon of coolant runs around 10 bucks at O'reilly's. Wiper blades. Unless they are streaking when they wipe, they probably don't need to be changed. If so, 12 bucks. Alternator, if your lights are dim at night or if your battery light is on, it may be an alternator. A decent rebuilt alternator installed will run you about 280 bucks. Other signs include if your radio creates a staticky moan when you accelerate. Battery. If your battery is bad, buy one at Sam's and have them install it. A new battery should cost you about 50 bucks and are quick and easy to install. If you don't have a Sams membership, Sears auto will install one for a reasonable price and they are open on some Holidays which is a huge plus. Triple A stock piles them too so if you get stranded they will install one for a premium. Water pump. If your car is overheating or not producing any heat regardless of the time of year, it may be a water pump. Check the coolant level first. Put some water in it and see if your heat comes on or the temperature gauge goes down, If not, plan on spending about 300 bucks for a new water pump. Adding water will also inform you if you have a leak in the system too. Radiator. I was once quoted a thousand bucks for a radiator. Nope. I took it somewhere else and paid 1/3 that. Shocks and struts. Bad shocks will not kill your vehicle and are not considered dangerous. You can drive on them for 10 years without any major issues to your vehicle. Tranny flush. I get mine done about every 50,000 miles and it usually costs under 100. A lot of places will take advantage of you on this one so be careful. Heater core. Easy way to get ripped off. Again, coolant level needs to be normal for the heat in your car to work. A good sign your core is bad is if you smell sweet antifreeze inside the vehicle or if it is smoking inside a little. I have taken my car to Simon for years. He is pretty honest. I have brought my car in for problems that I though that were much worse due some of my friends playing mechanic over the phone. He was honest and gave me his best price. He is much more reasonable than dealerships, and or some of those FCUK'n scam artist muffler,tire and chain places. Do not take your car there for anything other than an oil change or tires, and watch them while they work on your ghetto sled. It seems every time I take my car to one of those places they invent work or my check engine light comes on the next Fbomb-ing those places all day. So if you want spend little, take a trip to E. 40th and Carnegie and play mechanic roulette. If you have read my other posts there is an honest place you can take your car! Easily my best experience with paying anyone to work on a vehicle of mine (aside from motorcycles). I asked for recommendations from several neighborhood Facebook groups I'm a part of, and Simon's was the one that got the most recommendations. They also showed up on the Ohio E-Check repair list. Despite the suggestions to use Simon, I was reluctant to take my car there (because of experiences with other shops in the past). They were friendly, respectful, and seemed to be good people. I didn't read Yelp reviews until today, and I'm surprised to see some of these experiences happened at the same place I took my car to. When looking at my car, Simon found quite a few additional things that were wrong with my car. That's when I was worried that they were a "typical" repair shop. However, Simon said that, because of the damage (a rotted engine carriage being the biggest issue), he wouldn't recommend putting any real money into the car. I had taken the car to other shops for oil changes since buying it, and none of them noticed the issue, or cared enough to tell me about it. Simon did. You may think that it's a "he said, she said" thing, but Simon took pictures and SHOWED me the damage--even sending the pictures to me. He said they could absolutely fix the problems if I wanted them to, but it was completely up to me. Since the car was bought hastily, and cheaply, my decision was to hold off on the work, but at least I know about it now. I look at it like going to the doctor for a sprained ankle, and your doctor caring enough to do a full-body physical, and realizing you have cancer. I wouldn't have known, if he hadn't taken ownership over the health of my car. I'm not upset with them for that, especially with the candor and respect they showed me. I moved here in June 2013 for work at Cleveland Clinic. My 1999 accord began leaking coolant in early December. Great - I'm new to the area and thus have no mechanic I can trust. After reading reviews online, I decided to give Simon's a try. I could not be happier with the choice. Service was honest and prices were reasonable for replacing a coolant hose that had dry-rotted. The kicker came when I was called and informed that someone had cut my cat-converter off of my car overnight. Replacement cost? $300. Out of pocket cost for me in the end? $0. Simon offered to cover the repair for free as I was a first time customer. He was not obligated to do that at all. In the end he made $0 off of me after covering the cost of replacing the converter. Most places will not allow you to hold them responsible for damage they didn't cause. Everyone has seen the signs in parking lots. Check my reviews - I've been a member of yelp for a while but never leave reviews. Well, I felt obligated in this case. I can't let such a genuine act go unnoticed. Simon's is the mechanic I can't afford NOT to use. They are extremely thorough and will work with you (to a point) to get parts you can afford. They'll also teach you along the way, so you can understand their thinking and process. I've brought several cars in for an inspection before a purchase consideration, and each time they were able to catch even minor things that the dealer failed to disclose (with or without intent). I brought my Volkswagen Bug in for an oil change and the car was up in the air almost immediately. The oil change was done promptly and a thorough inspection performed. As a result, an old problem of a "brake noise" was finally diagnosed correctly; it was a bad wheel bearing. I am extremely pleased with this as the other shop insisted the noise was coming from the brakes and wanted to replace not only pads but the rotors as well that I declined. Had I agreed to it, it wouldn't have fixed the problem. I am extremely happy that I did bring my car to Simon's, the mechanics there are knowledgeable, especially about the foreign cars, courteous, provided a printed estimate, a full one year warranty which is contrary to the popular belief not always offered, and did I mention their waiting area? The soft seating, the Keurig right by and the view out the window is absolutely out of this world. The view of the tall trees and all the greens around them is very tranquil and relaxing which is very important while waiting for your car to be done. Much more important than watching the same TV station on and on. Bottom Line: Simon's is the only shop I will be bringing my beloved VW Bug from now on. My first experience was beyond positive! They assessed my car. Sent an electronic report with the good, bad & ugly so to speak. All systems were noted on accurately. Everything recommended for or repair was on point! All service recommended as maintenance was needed, others that were not of immediate need were mentioned but not recommended! I had a busted tire and bent rim. I was expecting to replace at least 2, but would not have been surprised to replace all at the age of the tires. But no he matched my tire and recommended only the one be replaced. They used used parts where possible on principle not by request! Honesty abounds at Simon's Auto!! Fabulous place to bring you aging car for good, fair honest service! As a person who knows little more than putting in gas and turning the key, I was not taken advantage of! As a woman they did not use any scare tactics. Honest recommendations for a reliable road safe vehicle!! I will tell you they are very busy and are scheduling at least 2weeks out for scheduled repairs. I will preface this by saying that I am very untrustworthy of auto shops and hate taking my car in. My husband (an engineer and very knowledgable about cars) has had excellent experiences with Simon's and they have won my trust as well. They now have text and video capabilities so they can send you pictures to help explain what is going on with your car. They have always been extremely professional and transparent when explaining things. Recently, what was going to be an $800 "fix" at a Toyota dealership (and not covered under warranty) turned into $0 after their inspection determined it was only a small amount of rust buildup causing some noise. It can take a couple days to get your car in for an appointment, but their prices and trustworthiness have made it worth it for us! read more

Terrible! Went in to have a sensor changed and, being that I drive a high performance vehicle and do my own maintenance when the weather permits, I naturally purchase my own parts. Upon arrival at Simon's (because they "don't give quotes over the phone") I was told by the disinterested gentleman behind the counter that they also "don't install customer parts" (pretty long list of things they -don't- do, huh?). Obviously their mark-up on parts is so significant that they don't want your business if they can't hit you with an insane part cost in addition to labor! What a racket! After my brakes lost their pressure, I did some looking around to find a mechanic and settled on Simon's because of other online reviews. I felt compelled to write my own review (which I have never done before) as a caution to others who might be shopping around for a good place- try the lusty wrench or alternative solutions car care instead. After my experience I won't be going back to Simon's. The day after I dropped my car off, Simon called me and told me that leaky wheel cylinders were to blame for the lost brake pressure, which would cost $700 to repair (including a 'dire' front/rear brake job) . As a college student (with a $1500 car) I told him I couldn't afford that, and brought the truck home to fix myself. Simon was extremely kind about this and didn't charge me, which left me very impressed. After a little research I took the brakes apart, and found that the wheel cylinders were retaining oil as they should have been (they were old, but they didn't need servicing yet). Still, I rebuilt them and attempted to refill the brake fluid. That's when I found out the real reason my car lost brake pressure-- a huge leak in the front right brake line. That means the $700 job would not have fixed the real problem... though I would never have known it if I had just left my truck at Simon's. Still, old leaky brake cylinders are a common reason for loss of brake fluid, and Simon was so nice, that I went against my better judgement and called him up to fix up the brake line (for a much more reasonable $200). I brought my truck back on a Wednesday, talked with him again on Thursday, and finally followed up on Monday morning- only to find out that they hadn't started. He told me they would get to it the next day- a full 6 days after I had initially brought it in (and this after he had told me over the phone that they usually finish within 24 hours). When I finally was able to pick up my truck, I asked if he'd knock off $10-20 for such a long wait (hey, I'm a college student after all). At this, Simon became very argumentative, implied that I was liar, and attempted to tell me the job had been completed quickly and I had been notified days earlier. When I cited the phone calls I had made to check on the progress, he seemed to doubt himself for an instant (and to check what day it was) before pressing further with his position. I paid the full amount cordially and walked out of the shop. I felt very wronged-- not because of the 6 day wait or the firm price-- but as a direct result of this poor personal interaction. Before this Simon had been really nice and friendly, and I was shocked by his harsh stance. If he had cordially refused to discount the price, I wouldn't be writing this right now-- instead he tried to convince me that it hadn't been a long wait, and backed himself into a lie in the process. So one $700 misdiagnosis (which in the best case was due to incompetence rather than dishonesty), one 6 day wait, and one painful personal interaction later, I decided to do my part and warn other people that take these reviews into consideration when they choose a mechanic. I had very positive interactions with Simon early in the process, and I understand why he has so many fans online. If I had took him at his word early on, I probably would be a fan too-- but after a 3-week long, very involved series of interactions, he's changed my mind. I can only say that I regret having taking my vehicle to Simon's, and that I'll be finding somewhere else to take my truck in the future. read more

Mr. Tire told me I needed brake pads, rotors, calipers and my brakes flushed along with a ton of other work. This had me extremely stressed. I decided to have Simons give me a second opinion. I have used them before. They saved me lots of money because I did not need the calipers. I only needed pads, rotors, and a few minor things. They even include the brake flush with this service. They are the most honest mechanics in the Cleveland Heights area. I won't go anywhere else to have my vehicle service moving forward. Great customer service all around! I called them and asked for a quote for a front wheel bearing 30 minutes before they closed, Steve got back to me very quickly even though he didn't reach his suppliers and told me the max price with dealer parts. We set an appointment for two days ahead and then the next day, he confirmed the total price with aftermarket parts and let me pay half over the phone. Brought my car in this morning with my tire pressure warning light on and they took care of that too. The car runs great and I'm very thankful that they were able to order the part so quickly and that they were able to fit me in before my road trip. I absolutely recommend working them. AWFUL Place. I took my car into the shop with an engine problem where the car was cutting off completely in the middle of traffic. I told them the problem and they said they would take care of it and let me know whats going on. Later I got a call saying that they are not sure what the problem is, but think that it may be related to the starter and they could try a few things and continue to investigate. After 3 days of their "investigation" they arrived at the conclusion that they did not know what was happening, but that the labor cost was going to be $800. I was shocked. I asked again what was wrong, but they gave me some mechanical jargon which basically resulted in them not having a clue what was going on. As my family had been a loyal customer for years I tried to get them to see that I did not think it fair to pay all that money when they didn't fix the problem let alone know what happened, and they insisted that they did everything they could and tried. After that install, I needed professional help to evac/recharge the newly installed AC parts - compressor, coils, etc. Their price for the evac/recharge was very reasonable and they were done within an hour. I was told that the car I was looking at, a Honda Civic hybrid, was an excellent car, and that it would run for years.
