I received a 60 min walk in massage and was more then generous with 120 dollars total when the tab was 87 dollars to come to find out 17 dollars was charged on my card . Convenience factor was thrown out the window while I was put on hold for 15 minutes told I was called back and no one called back. I've been a member for over a decade and this location has gone downhill. My main complaint is the fact that they don't have enough therapists to accommodate the number of members. Whenever I go online to schedule a massage, they are booked solid for 2 months. This has been the case for over a year. I still like my ME membership, but I book at other locations as I can never get in at Maple Grove. It really seems like the owner is taking in tons of membership $$ and not investing in staff to provide any value back to the members. Advising I had to request 2x to have my membership cancelled. Store manager didn't do it. 2. Explained my work schedule - not that different from many - I can't come in during the day. 3. I have had decent experiences here in the past but my latest one was horrible and customer service did nothing, which is why I am posting. I called to book an appointment for a deep tissue therapist. The lady on the phone had one that she recommended so I booked with her recommendation. My appointment was the last one of the evening. My therapist fell asleep several times throughout the session. Every 5 minutes I asked her if she could apply more pressure - she never did and instead just rubbed in circles or fell asleep with her hand on me. She also ended my massage 12 minutes short. I made a complaint after my session and the lady at the front desk was actually the one that booked my appointment. She apologized and was kind and mentioned it was her fault because on her cheat sheet, that therapist does not in fact do deep tissue. She was also notified of the sleeping issue and knew I was shorted my time (which I am glad it ended sooner..) and promised follow up to "make it right". When no one reached out, I ended up following up, and was told "I'm sorry and it won't happen again". I explained my frustration that I spent money on an hour and a half service with someone who was not qualified, who fell asleep, and who did not provide the service I paid for. I was then told it's against their policy to reimburse or do anything to make it right. I understand completely that people make mistakes (booking me with a "deep tissue" therapist who in fact doesn't do that) and that everyone has off days (falling asleep and not providing the service) but management should care a bit more about their clients. I've had plenty of mediocre massages in my loand have never once complained, but this was absolutely ridiculous. read more

This is a review of the Maple Grove location only. Over the last few years this location has gone downhill. They have brought in some good therapists, but they do not stay because of the leadership and all the issues at this location. The location previously was a fun and energetic place to be part of. Recently, they were down to two massage therapists and the place is empty when you walk in. After several years as a member, I canceled my membership, walking away from at least 9 paid sessions because I have not been able to get appointments scheduled. Disappointing treatment as a customer. Was promised I'd be called when my favorite therapist released their next months calendar so I could make an appointment asap. I called a few days into the next month and was told that was not their policy as they never call so.... I'm wrong? Lesson learned. Thought maybe a new employee had told me. Happened again. Is this a policy to mislead? But biggest complaint most recently- I (finally) cancelled my membership but was charged again the 2nd month following. Their response was bewilderment as to why they hadn't processed my request. I had one session left today, paid for, and was told my therapist was not available. They called me 1/2 hour before my appointment. And she said I was NOT due a credit. I'm done with them. Sadly, I kept paying my monthly dues throughout the pandemic even though I did not use several of them in the name of supporting a business. So much for "thanks". Not worth the hassle. Totally agree with most reviews this place is a total scam, I followed their instructions and froze my account and they started charging me, when I reached out to them the manager said I don't know what the previous manager did or said but this is our policy and we were asked by management not to budge, they expect me to use all my hours that added up due to the pandemic how can I risk myself and my family to get a massage just so I can use what I have paid for. I am trying to cancel my membership without getting completely screwed over. I currently have a bunch of massages built up in my account as I have not been able to go in monthly like I planned and now I would like to cancel my membership but was told I have a limited time to use up my massages or I will lose them. So I tried to set up a few appointments and wasn't able to because nobody is ever available. So I decide that I would like to transfer over some of my massages to someone else but I can't do that because "their system" only allows one transfer. Aren't these MY massages that I have already paid for? Shouldn't I be allowed to give them to anyone if I choose to? So I have a bunch of massages that I can't use because they never have times available and they can't be given to other people. I can't cancel yet because then I'm limited on a time-frame for using them but until I cancel I will still accumulate more. It's a vicious cycle! read more

I've been to Massage Envy multiple times before and today was one of the worst experiences I had. The gal I had was 15 minutes late so the staff offered me a complimentary service. The service I asked for they were out of that product. So I chose and foot & hand scrub. Well the massage therapist didn't do it on my hands & feet but my back. Which was not relaxing at all. The massage therapist didn't know how to lock the headrest in place so my neck was very uncomfortable the entire massage. The massage was full body but only did one side. She used her elbows the entire time which was very uncomfortable. I mentioned all of this to staff afterwards and all they mentioned is that they will comp a product the next time. We went there for massages on my birthday because I was all kinds of knotty. I have had many massages in my day and there have been few who have been able to get many of the trouble spots in my back right. Ted was FANTASTIC! He really listened to what I said and he ended up customizing my massage to be just my back and he nailed it! Yes, I will agree that they're aggressive with the memberships Fine, whatever, that's their schtick. BUT, I will say that if you're able to go and get Ted, you will absolutely not be disappointed. I'm usually one who likes to leave reviews when I have had a positive experience, however, this experience was so terrible I figured I had to do my due diligence. I cancelled my membership here back in January 2022 due to inability to schedule and the fact that I had moved, or so I thought. Apparently, they lost my cancellation paperwork, and I noticed my card was still being charged. I attempted to call the Maple Grove location many times, with no answer, left a message, no callback. Attempted to contact the Plymouth location since no one answers the phone over at Maple Grove, which they also confirmed, and indicted they could not help me since they are franchised. I FINALLY reached a nice lady named Josie at the Maple Grove who told me her manager would be in the next day and would give me a call back. Well, that day came and went, and no one called. I followed up the next Monday and someone actually answered the phone, a woman named Sara, who refused to tell me if she was a manager or not. Instead of apologizing for not processing my cancellation properly and discussing the payments that had been taken out of my account and the credits remaining which I was utilizing, she continued to argue with me the entire time back and forth getting absolutely nowhere. Not only did she not apologize for their lack of processing my cancellation properly, but then wanted to charge me for services after the fact and accused me of a "witch hunt" when I asked for her name since I clearly needed to take better records of my interactions with this place. I have been to the Maple Grove Massage Envy for a 90 min massage and a 60 min facial. I am pleased to say I had a great experience with both the massage by Jodi and the facial by Maria. With the facial I have found out how dehydrated my skin was and from then on I have cleared up my face by making it a priority to hydrate my skin. Unfortunately, I have moved out of state so I wanted to write this review as thanks for the great service. I was very confused when I saw the rating of this location and decided to read the feedback others have written. I saw that many people are confused and frustrated in the membership contract. I have read the contract and found it to be clear and concise. No one should ever sign a contract without reading it themselves and making sure that they fully understand it. All terms should be evaluated on whether or not it is something that will be beneficial for you and agree to those terms. If you do not agree please do not sign. Just like any contract, it is not for everyone. There is always an option not to sign and feeling pushed or pressured to do it is just not an excuse. No one is above the terms that they sign to. A signature should mean something to both parties. I would also like to point out that when using a one on one personal service it should be expected to book a few weeks ahead. I am glad that they are able to keep their appointment book filled, it speaks to their success. I did not sign up for the membership due to the fact that I am only looking for the occasional massage or facial every year or so. In my circumstance, it would not be beneficial to me because I would not use all the hours I would accumulate. However, it would be beneficial to other people who look for these services frequently. Just please read the contract and decide for yourself. If you are looking for a massage or facial the Massage Envy in Maple Grove is a great place to go. I was a member of Massage envy for a year. I had a hard time getting 90 minute massage times. I would find a therapist I liked then they were gone. I had 1 time I got to the location and the therapist didn't show for work. 3 other times my appointments were canceled last minute. They charge us for a full massage if we canceled less then 24hours prior to our session. I was never offered a upgrade for these issues. I canceled my membership via written email, which they never received. Then filled out the required paperwork, I was told it was never received. I was charged for the month I canceled. After 6 phone calls talking to a manage each time I still have not received a refund. This all started back in September of 2020 and it is now December 2020 and I still have not received a refund. read more

I wish I had read down on the Yelp reviews before buying my wife a 6 massage gift. They buried an auto-renewal with a 30 day cancellation clause into a contract. They didn't tell me that and they didn't say anything to my wife about it either. Contractual language is NOT what people expect when they buy a limited service. My wife has liked the massages well enough, so they managed to ruin a relationship with good customers because sticking to their deceptive business practices is more important than being honest with their customers. My loving husband bought me a GC here for Christmas because he knows how extrememly tight my neck and shoulders muscles get. I experience horrible headaches from the muscle strain. I was excited for my 8am on a Sunday morning appointment to experience some kind of relief from my headaches that have been contributing to my crabiness at home. Wasn't happy about not being able to sleep in on a weekend. I get into the room, undress and lay on the table where she didn't enter back in for another 15-20 min. I knew then I should have left. It didn't take more than 5 min. for me to realize that this was a huge mistake. Her breath basically smelled like sh%t, and the technique was not any better then my 4 year olds. Worst 40 min. of my life!!!!!!!!! I basically excused myself and left. Pretty disappointed in the way my morning went when I was looking forward to a massage. I called and scheduled an appointment at 2:58 pm for a 4:00 pm massage. I was then told that I was not able to keep this appointment because it was held for members only. I was wanting to try out this location because I was thinking of changing from my current membership at a different chain to massage envy. If they only save appointments for their members how are you ever supposed to see if you want to become a member. This appointment was an hour from the time I called. I highly doubt that they were going to fill this time point in that amount of time. They lost a potential new member by cancelling my appointment to give to a "potential" member that would call in the schedule in the next hour. Very poor customer service! read more

Calling and asking for a manager only to be told "they'll call you back" - something they have never done. About a month ago I had my first ever massage with Shea. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and made me feel very at ease. They sat down with me to fill out the paperwork and made sure to note my concerns. The lady was very empathetic when I told her about the headaches I was experiencing. She then gave me a tour and let me know what to expect during my massage. My massage was 60 min. Shea did an amazing job. I had been having daily headaches from stress and tension in my shoulders and upper back. She used a nice firm pressure and I liked the techniques she used. When she hit a spot that became too painful I let her know that it was really tender and she adjusted the pressure for that area. After the massage my back and shoulders felt so much better! She did an awesome job. I signed up for the membership and then scheduled my next appointment a few weeks out. Unfortunately They had the wrong number on file so I was not getting the appointment reminders. The first time I was one week off and the second time I was one day off. We finally figured out they did not have my correct number. I got the reminder text and actually wrote down the correct day this time! I had my second message this evening after work. It was a 90 min with Sara. I was pretty disappointed. This time I tried the full body instead of focusing the whole massage on my back and shoulders. The room was very cold this time. She used a very light pressure and a much different technique. I did ask her to use a harder pressure towards the end of the massage which was a little better. But it still did nothing to relieve the tightness in my back. Feeling down about this experience. Scheduled my next appointment with Shea as soon as possible because I did not receive any relief from the tension in my back and shoulders. Very bumbed out on Christmas Eve. I would like a $60 refund to my Credit Card! I was told by the scheduler that my rate would be $59 for a 1 1/2 hour massage. She said rates were $39.99 for an hour and then if I wanted to be on a plan, $59.99 would be all I would have to pay for this session, if I signed up for monthly. Made the appointment at least 3 weeks in advance. Looked forward to a full massage for $85, ($59 and another $20 gratuity for the massage specialist. Considered signing up again for a year plan. Upon exit, ended up paying $143.00, WOW! Gal said rates were wrong. I had to pay $60 more than intended. Just terrible. I never thought this would happen. Massage gal LON was great but I feel worse now on Christmas Even than when I went in. Will not be returning. On 12/29/15, I received a phone call from a representative from this location due to a negative review I gave. After telling her about the situation, she stated there was nothing she could do to refund the $60 because it simply wouldn't be fair to others. I have been a member with Massage Envy for quite sometime. I had 14 hours accrued because I had not cancelled my monthly membership, very dumb! The total balance on the account is approximately $900. When I went today to understand how best to utilize this large amount of hours, I found out that even though I am a member, I will not get the benefit of paying $60/1.5 hour massage during the month unless I pay out of pocket and I don't use my banked hours of $900!!!! They "get you" because if you use your balance of hours(14), and you subtract 1.5 hours from the hours you have banked in their system, you will be paying $90/1.5 hour massage versus the $60. I said this doesn't seem fair and I felt they should be charging $60 because that is the member pricing for a 90 min massage. Also, I asked if I did an hour massage during the same month after the initial, I again do NOT GET THE BENEFIT OF MEMBER PRICING of paying $40/1 hr UNLESS I PAID OUT OF POCKET. They said I would have to pay the $60/ 1 hour if I used one from my bank of $900. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING AND NO CONCERNS TO A LONG TERM CUSTOMER WHO HAS SPENT ALOT OF MONEY WITH THE COMPANY. In summary, BUYER BEWARE!!!! MASSAGE ENVY IS A TOTAL RIP OFF! Don't get caught up with their member pricing. It's all a scam. You really don't get "member pricing " if you bank any hours. DO NOT sign any contracts with them because they "get you" every way possible! I said I wanted to cancel my membership from here on out, but she said I would have to pay more for my hours even though I accrued all these hours paying $60 a month. I was told I could cancel my massage verbally by the person who pressured me to sign up for their wellness plan. Then of course when I tried to do it when my income dropped drastically, I was called a liar and that their associates follow a script and they would NEVER have told me that. I'm not sure how they can script the exact questions I asked, but they assured me they can. They have called me several times a week for so long I had to block their calls. They are harassing and despite multiple correspondence back and forth with them about how I want to cancel with them, they are STILL calling and still wanting me to update my credit card on file. I had a friend of mine give me one of her appointments because she had a membership and from what she describes sounds quite shady, but I'm only writing about my experience here. Nonetheless, she was allowed to give one massage per month to a friend so she made all the arrangements to set up a massage account so I could make an appt. I made an appt through Randy, but then when I showed up at the time and date we scheduled, I was told "oh too bad it was for the day before. " First of all I think they purposely set it up so they could keep the money my friend paid and then to not have to give me the massage, but even if it was a legitimate mistake on their part. Randy was very snotty and seemed to find it amusing that now my friends money is just lost and too bad for me that I made the trip to Maple Grove. By far the WORST massage I have ever experienced! I have been receiving regular massages for over fifteen years. Having recently moved to the area, I needed to find a new massage therapist and had recently won a gift certificate (through a local TV promo) for an hour massage at Massage Envy. Upon the first therapist, at another location, was unable to come in to keep appointments, I promptly called the Maple Grove location, explained the situation, and my need to get in ASAP. The young woman on the phone was quite helpful, empathetic, and when I explained my need for deep tissue therapy and although she stated there were no deep tissue specialists available, I was assured Val was able to meet my needs for tension release and tight knots. First off, the room was FREEZING! (When I shared this with the attendants at the front desk upon my departure I was told, "Was the table warmer not on? Thank you for letting us know. We will take care of it right away so it's fixed for the next person.) If there was a table warmer, I certainly wasn't one of the benefactors. Val was very sweet, kind, and quite light handed. When I asked for more pressure, what I received was a knobby elbow. If the desired outcome of this session was to knead me like dough, it was successful. Her main massage technique is to use the heels of her palms, not my cup of tea. As another reviewer had previously stated, upon completing one half of the massage, she then slapped from the bottom of my feet all the way up to the top of my shoulders, finishing with karate chops to the trapezoid area. If I would have thought it wouldn't have completely ruined her day, I would have asked her to step out so I could dress and leave. Then, to top it all off, upon presenting my official "Massage Envy, have an hour on us" gift card, I was told it didn't cover the tax. By this point I was ready to run out the door, so I paid the tax (even though in the state of MN there is no tax charged for services given for promotional services.) I would like to say, The reason I am sharing the details of my experience is so that someone doesn't pay full price for a service which is obviously an acceptable "technique". I was VERY specific with my requests and in expressing my needs, yet this was the match up they encouraged as being a good fit. read more

Bought a 6 massage package for both my wife and I. Had a difficult time scheduling the massages as we had to book weeks in advance to get times that worked in our schedule. In 7 months we only managed to use 2. Then I get billed for a massage on my credit card. Turns out that somewhere in the fine print the 6 massage package is really you signing up for a monthly renewal that they don't tell you about and I'm sure most find out once they start getting charged. So I call them to cancel and they say they can't do it over the phone, so I drive over to cancel in person. Then they tell me it takes 10 days to have the cancellation filed and they will be billing me for another month during that ten days!! I complained that I don't want another massage, but all they say is sorry it is our policy, as if that makes it ok. So now I have 12 massages between my wife and I and they tell us we have 60 days to use them or we lose them. The one thing I really liked about Message Envy, is the affordability and the many locations to choose from. I find it very hard to get into the therapist I like. I've gone to other locations, but I find I keep coming back to MG. But the staff are not easy to deal with. The scheduling. I've been told when trying to book an appointment in advance, that my therapist doesn't book out that far. I have a narrow window when I can come in for an appointment, and they are always booked. which is why I had to go to another location in the first place. No sense paying for a message that you literally cannot get in to use. I started booking my appointments online. I found this easiest and I could search for times that worked for my schedule with ease.... until now. I booked two appointments, only to get a call that those times 1) didn't work for the therapist as I had signed up for a 60 minute message for an 1.5 slot. - No where on the website did it provide that information. You put in the length of time your looking for and the system brings up available slots. So, now I am being told that I cannot have that time slot as it doesn't work for them. Apparently, the customer is not always right and is now told when and how to work the appointments. Apparently this is a corporate issue, but no one cares enough to listen to the customer. 2) When the staff calls to tell you that they cannot accommodate the online schedule you've booked, they then hang up on you. I've never dealt with a customer service person that calls me, then hangs up, when you state that this was the only time that worked for you, which is why you booked the appointment to begin with. I've enjoyed this perk to treat myself for over a year, but due to the treatment I've received this week. I cannot support a business that treats customers so poorly. Telling a customer that it is a "corporate issue" is something they (the franchise) needs to find a way to fix, not the customer having to change multiple pre-booked appointments. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Their customer service is beyond pathetic, and the manager, Sara is completely rude and unreasonable, and she never bothered to return any messages that I had left for her. And whenever you call(any day of the week), she's "magically", not in the office. How can a manager "never be in today". Really? My husband had been a member for 3+ years and tried to cancel as life had gotten crazy recently with a demanding new job, new puppy, etc. and she was completely unreasonable and would not work with him at all . She basically had the "too bad for you" attitude. If that's how you treat long-time customers, then we will definitely not be back and will be happy to share our very unpleasant experience with anyone who wants to listen. In fact, I have a membership at Hand & Stone massage and they are so great to work with, that when my hubby decides to join again, he will most definitely join Hand & Stone, and not the ridiculous massage envy. read more

overall this is not a bad place to get massages, but the monthly membership couldnt be more difficult to get out of. You have to put it in writing and if you dont get it in by a set time they will charge your account for the next month. Dont even try to fax something over there because almost everyone will tell you a different fax number and no matter what the number is it never works. read more

Ok, that's it for me. Just had a massage-worst ever. What massage school teaches you to chat with your client through their whole "relaxation" message? I used to have a favorite therapist but she left Massage envy. Since then I've had maybe one in ten massages that were worth my money. I know these girls have been trained at a variety of schools: why can't massage envy have some kind of training so that there is not so much difference between therapists! My husband had an upper body and she never flipped him over? My massage ended with calf massage. That was a new one for me. I won't be back. read more

First and foremost, my massage therapist is terrific. Professional, talented, nice, never late, never cancels. Second, I have been a member for eight years and never complained about the massage therapist who had no idea what she was doing or the one who told me about her trauma history during the session. Finally, what the heck was the management thinking today? I arrived for my massage several minutes early - enough time to check in, use the restroom, and turn off my phone. I was told I had to update my information. I asked if that could wait (they never called me to ask me to come early - or I would have). I was told it could not. Okay, demographics = fine, body diagram = okay, dozens of questions about my private medical history = you don't need to know this - skip. Then I am asked to sign some kind of contract/waiver. I said I don't sign things I haven't read and it's now time for my massage. I was told I had to sign it. I asked them to give me a copy or send me a copy and I would sign it the next time I came in (I have several appointments scheduled). She said I was signing exactly what I signed years ago to join. I said that's great. I will read it and sign it next time. I said I was going to use the restroom as my massage should be starting. I did so and tried to get into my happy place when a gentleman spoke to me. He said it was ILLEGAL for my therapist to touch me unless I signed the form. I said either let me have my massage that should be starting or let me leave. He said I could leave but I would be charged for the session I "missed." At that point, I contacted legal counsel (I know a lot of lawyers) who asked 1) what statute makes it ILLEGAL for my massage therapist to touch me, 2) when did that statute change (my massage therapist was able to touch me a few weeks ago and for the last several years), and 3) if it was the exact same document and they already had my signature on it, why did I need to sign this right now? I asked all 3 questions to the gentleman and the woman who joined him. They had no answers. It was now past the time that my massage was supposed to start. I said that either I could leave and not be charged or have the full session I was paying for because I was not the person causing the delay. The woman said absolutely not. She would charge me if I left and my session would start as late as it was going to start and end when it was originally supposed to. She would not prorate the time. I finally negotiated immediately reading the contract/waiver and paying for only the shorter massage that I would now be receiving. I ASKED FOR A COPY OF WHAT I WAS SIGNING AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT SEND IT OR PRINT IT BECAUSE IT WAS ON AN IPAD? What? So, barring a sincere apology, they are losing a customer that they had for over 8 years. read more
