Came here for breakfast with my husband and fell in love. The outside is perfectly adorable and they have seating facing out into the sidewalk. They have a really good brunch deal that includes a wide selection but my husband and I decided to actually order menu items. I had the spicy omelette and it was good, not very spicy to me but my husband thought it had a good amount to it. My husband had the eggs benedict and we both fell in love with that. It was absolutely delicious and I wish I had ordered it myself! We also ordered the french toast to split but they accidentally brought us the pancakes instead. It was no big deal though because they were heavenly, the whip cream was so deliciously fresh. My husband had one of their lattes and I had an iced coffee with fresh cream. One thing that I absolutely loved about the entire meal was that both of our savory breakfasts came with fresh salad greens and a delicious dressing. The fresh greens with radishes were the perfect addition to the meal and I was so glad to have them. Can't wait to come back. read more

The food here is mediocre, and so is the atmosphere. It's always pretty empty when I've been there, but for a while, it was the only place to hang out and drink coffee in on the block. Oslo is nearby, but it lacks adequate seating, so you end up at Simple with a lackluster experience. They're very nice here, but it seems like they can't figure out what kind of a place they want to be. And the food is unimaginative and ho-hum. I think they will start losing business to the new Rabbithole down the street. read more

MAD_MAD_MAD This was a BAD experience. My family of three came to check out this local restaurant with a restaurant.com certificate. The owner waited on us and apparently did NOT want to serve the last of 11 of these certificates still circulating.We ordered a simple meal, hamburger, steak,crab cakes. The food was fine, actually tasty enough, although it looked like I was given a tiny piece of scrap meat (as steak) but it was well seasoned and slathered in onions to hide the size and quality of the meat. It was the service that was atrocious. When we arrived there was one customer in the place that had finished eating and was surfing the net. We were greeted, and an order was placed. We were given a bottle of water and our food. No other service followed. ANyhting else we needed we had to get ourselves, including the bill. When we were given our bill insted of beaing charged 18% gratuity we were charged $18 tip on a $30 something bill. When we asked the owner to correct it- (Tip should have been 6.71) -she got so ANGRY And complained about the coupons. She did correct the bill but basically told us she didn't want us to return. The food is not too bad, but the manager refused to honor our gift certificate that we bought on Restaurant.com. I feel as if this is a scam, the only reason I tried Simple Cafe was because of the gift certificate I had, but they did not honor it saying "we don't accept gift certificate anymore, new policy". I usually go there for brunch with my girl friends but last saturday my boyfriend's cousin was in town from France so we all went together. This is simply the best brunch spot in Williamsburg, the bread is delicious and they make it fresh every single day ... i ordered an algerian plate... STILL DREAMING about the babaganoush, so freaking tasty and this plate is just perfect cause i usually tend to eat too much at brunch but this was the perfect amount of food. my boyfriend got the buffet and got his mind blown by the quality of the food, cause you never know what to expect with this kind of all you can eat deals, the gratin was his favorite part! my boyfriends cousin got the baked eggs and told me this was one of the best things hes ever had, we also all shared a fig and honey crepe that was the highlight of my day! great service ! the waitress was dealing with all the tables by herself and still managed to be very friendly and sweet. i never went there on a weekday but i'd definitely try this out soon. read more

My new favorite restaurant!!! So excited to have found this place. I went this weekend for brunch and had the Eggs Benedict - so delicious! The peach mimosa hit the spot too. My friend had the Poached Eggs and was equally impressed with her meal. The staff was really friendly, the chef came out to check on our meal and introduce herself as well. Finally came here a year after I heard about it from my friend. Overall, a good place for a simple, brunch where you can fill yourself up because they have AYCE brunch buffet. Not the right place if you're looking for high quality food. They have a few hot options like potatoes gratin, some cream spinach thing, bacon, scrambled eggs...There's a yogurt bar with plain yogurt and toppings like canned fruit and granola. There's a simple salad. There's some meats and cheeses. The cheeses looked like they had been sitting out for a while and can developed a hard, filmy, layer on the side facing up. There's bread and some croissants, but the croissants were unavailable for a majority of the time and when they refilled, they'd be taken immediately. They couldn't keep up with the freshness of the food and turn around I guess wasn't high so most of the food didn't look very fresh. Not that it had gone bad, but just like it was sitting there for a while. The brunch buffet also includes a tea/coffee and OJ. I wouldn't go back unless I was in the area and wanted to go cheap and easy. read more

This place is adorable. Walked a short distance here on a rainy Tuesday; I had the steak frites. The steak was sumptuous, but that is probably the heathen in me relishing the marriage of alcohol and a bloody chunk of meat. No complaints. When we went there on a Saturday around 6pm it was empty except a couple. We sat, I ordered a cheese burger and my wife a veggie burger. While we were waiting for the food I noticed the sign saying that they bake their own bread. Then the food comes. Turns out veggie burger isn't actually a veggie burger, it is sliced vegetables fried on pan and put on a bun. 50 piece of sliced vegetables. My cheeseburger, although I've been asked 'how' and told 'medium well' is completely 'raw' inside. The fries are overcooked in an oil that is probably used many times before because they smell burned oil and they are not hot. The buns, remember they cook their own bread, are hard crust outside and again not completely cooked white dough inside. Took a bite and asked for the check, did not see any point in arguing an establishment serving what sits on my plate as 'deluxe cheeseburger' on Bedford & S2 with a straight face. The only waiter / barmaid comes, did not show 'any' reaction as in 'what's wrong with your food?' or anything, brings us the check. I paid it and we left after finishing our drinks. I stumbled upon this gem a while ago and continued to be blown away by the consistent quality and scrumptious food, but the reason for my writing is my recent introduction to what will go down as one of the best breakfasts I have ever had - the Simple Poached Eggs. Apparently the Simple Poached Eggs have been on the menu for a while, but always waking up groggy from a night of too many Skinny B*tches, I tend to venture to the sweet over the savory. Last Sunday, I decided to abandon my typical order of French Toast, for a description of eggplants, avocados and eggs -- a combination of ingredients I have never tried. I cut through the poached egg and let the creamy yolk dribble down each layer of avocado and eggplant until it hit the crispy bread. I cut myself the perfect bite and savored the entire sandwich. Reader, I was overwhelmed by the infusion of flavors into the eggplant with the mixture of the Hollondaise sauce and the runny yolk all melting into the bread. Wow. I cannot wait to go back next week and perhaps I will need to also order the Nutella on toast for desert. read more
