Back on 2019 I had an irrigation system built by a landscape company in Portland. I recently needed some work on it and called them but they indicated they no longer do work in Vancouver, but when I asked if there was anyone they would recommend, they said Simple Lawns. I had a problem with two leaks in the irrigation system. You could see water getting into the valve boxes when you turned on two of my zones. My suspicion was that the water pipes coming out from the valve to the irrigation tubing had broken when I had a contractor install a pumped sewer system last fall. The trench for the sewer pipe went across the water outlet pipes from the valve boxes. I called Simple Lawns to see if they could come work in fixing the leaks. They were able to schedule a visit by their irrigation expert within a few days. I paid a deposit which was for the service call to diagnose the problem and assess how much it would cost to fix. The employee came and looked it over and was able to fix it right away. He had it fixed within an hour or two. I was surprised it was possible to fix it so quickly, and he indicated the cost would probably be just the service call fee or a little more. The one slightly odd thing was I didn't get a email from the company to indicate the job was completed and that there were no additional charges. But the repairs were successful and they didn't send any additional bill, so I figured that was the situation. I was dreading trying to get those leaks fixed and I was amazed how quickly they fixed them and that it cost way less than I expected it would. read more

They wanted to do way more that I asked for I asked for a simp, too small gardens to be weeded, I get back a reply that I needed more done than I said, well, you know what? I wanted what I wanted, and they insisted on doing something more than what I wanted. So that's why the one star review. The people were perfectly wonderful. This is probably a nice service and all that, but they 're insisting that I need something done more. When I ask for something specific, and they won't do what I asked. I had a wonderful experience with everyone on my landscaping overhaul. From my sales guy Mike Kyry, to the incredible 3 guys that did the work at the house, Orlando, Cristobol, & Anthony. They really went over the top on their efforts to make sure everything got done and to my needs and satisfaction. And lastly to the lovely ladies that helped me with the payment process Paola & Emma! It was a one of the most positive experiences I have ever had with hiring a professional contractor to work on my home. Not to mention the end result is SOOOO much BETTER!!! Communicating with AI is extremely unhelpful, frustrating and very off-putting. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HUMAN CONTACT. PERIOD. No one called me back when AI "Daniel" or whoever it is said it would have a human call me. Finally someone did call and say the tech would come on Monday 6-22, but did not give a time. I called because I had dead sod and dreams of building a garden, so I asked him to tear it up (including plastic mesh) to replace with bark dust and he said "no problem". What a great company! My neighbor was experiencing an area in his yard that was retaining a lot of water last summer. Our fence is directly adjacent to their soggy area, so since they're downhill from me, I called around for a plumber or landscaper to come search for any leaks in my watering system. I couldn't find anyone willing to do the job until I happened upon Simple Lawns. They came out to our small town and exhaustively tested my front and back yard systems both in the ground and at the controller. Thank goodness no leak was found, but after checking my watering schedule timer, they surmised I was probably overwatering. I wish I could remember the name of the young man who was here; he was so friendly and helpful and professional. Then at a later date I phoned them for a quote on a job I needed done in my small backyard (install a gravel path to allow me handicapped access to my garden). The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was so kind and helpful. He was ready to send someone out to do it but after speaking to me he determined that I could do better just by hiring a local handyman to do the job. He spent a lot of time on the phone with me at no charge, patiently telling me specifically how the job should be done and what materials to use. I am so grateful for his help, and now I can get out into my yard. At Christmas this year, Simple Lawns sent me a beautiful box of artisanal chocolates, even though they only did one job for me. We originally rated Simple Lawns as one star but after receiving a response from the owner, we're updating it to five. Since posting our review, we've spoken to the owner and voiced our issues and he was super responsive. He apologized and offered to make it right. It sounds like this doesn't happen very often (based on reviews), and every now and then things fall through the cracks which is normal for a business. We ended up getting a leveled yard and we're happy with the way things turned out. It's very impressive and refreshing to have a business admit their mistakes and offer to make things right and, ultimately, we're glad that we went with Simple Lawns. read more

Updated after company response: When Oleg had asked our budget both over the phone and when he came out to look at the yard, I told him our budget was 4-5 thousand. He then made a quote for 10,000 so of course adjustments had to be made. Once the quote had been approved, we had to call the company and ask to schedule the job, to which they responded that it was already scheduled. We did not confirm a date so this was news to us. The day that the job was supposed to happen came and went with no communication. We called the company every morning for a few days to ask what time to expect employees to show up, but each day we were told that our job was rescheduled and someone was supposed to have let us know, but they didn't. Once the crew actually showed up, the weeds that we had asked to be addressed were much more significant than when we talked to the designer because so much time had passed. Regarding the dog poop, I told the employees that I could have it cleaned up and they said "don't worry it's all part of it" so I do not see why this would have been a problem. Once the job had been started, the company tried to double the price on the quote that we had already approved for the weeding portion. We declined that and ended up adding 50%. The designer then said to "not expect perfection for that price because the crew isn't happy". He immediately tried to take it back, but surely enough we were left with a much less than perfect job when the crew was done, around 9:30pm. When we called back to get the weeding taken care of further, the company said they would make it right and then add in a weed spray for our troubles. Eventually another employee came out, hand pulled maybe a small bucket of weeds, sprayed a small section of our yard, and then left after less than 30 minutes (video below from right after employee left). When we again called the company to express our concerns, we were given a discount that was less than the price of the weeding, especially after we had to add an additional 50% of the cost. Regarding the patio and polymeric sand, there was a heavy amount of sand on all the pavers and the siding of our house (pictures below). If this was caused by rain, the company should have waiting until it wasn't raining to do so. They seemed to have no problem supposedly "waiting out the rain", in June, when it was convenient for them to continue leaving our product unfinished. We understand that an employee had a family emergency and our thoughts are with that employee and his family, but personally I believe that another employee could have easily come out and finished the job. Additionally, we received no communication that there was an emergency and the job would be delayed until after we called the company when they missed the day that they said they would show up. I am beyond disappointed in the constant asking to remove my review. There has been little effort shown to make this experience better for us and a significant amount to get the review taken down. Yes, poor reviews are bad for business but bad service is even worse so the energy would be better spent fixing quality of work and communication than nagging at a customer to hide their experience. This is not even all the concerns and negative experiences that we had with the company but we are beyond tired of dealing with this. The job is finally done and we are ready to move on. Initially, we chose Simple Lawns based on their excellent reviews. When we met the owner to describe what we wanted we felt he really listened and made clear how he would go about the project. Once the bid came in it was on par with others we had received from other contractors. As the work progressed we were pleased with the quality and care that the crew put into every phase of the project. We had a few changes along the way and they handled them superbly. The project manager checked in often and took time to answer questions and convey timelines and responded to each and every request we had. After getting the system installed in the winter I never had a chance to fully test out the sprinklers. When it came time to take advantage of the sprinkler system I found a minor issue and contacted simple lawns and they sent someone out right away and took care of the issue. What can I say? These people did not honor the 1-yr warranty that I paid additional for. They are also one of the most expensive lawn care services in the area. The people who come to your home and perform the lawn care services are very hard workers and very reliable. The people in the office and management? Not so much. Incredibly disappointing. Comment from owner (Vitaly) says that additional warranty was at no additional charge, which is absolutely not true - I was given 2 options: one included plant warranty for additional cost, one did not. Comment from owner (Vitaly) says that they came out and looked at the plants and they did do that. I still have the dead plants installed - have not yet replaced them - still no leaves, still dead. It seems they wanted to leave the plants there, denying they were dead, until after the warranty expired. They were successful. I did not receive any replacements because they insisted that the vine maple with dry, grey branches (no internal green) and absolutely no leaves was not dead. read more

We reached out to Simple Lawns at the end of August to help us finish the landscaping project that we started with another landscaping company we had had a terrible experience with. David came to us on August 31st. For over an hour we walked around our property, discussing what we could do and listening to David's evaluation of how horrible our landscaper's job was and how we should have hired Simple Lawns in the first place. At the end of the meeting, follow-up he promised to come back to us with a design and a quote within 2 weeks. I also reached out to him the same day with a follow up question that was ignored. After two weeks I followed up since I hadn't heard from him since our meeting. He said he would give a quote that week. It didn't happen. I reached out again in a week. He said he'd send the quote by the end of the week and they would start working on our project in 2 weeks. In a week I had to follow up again asking about the estimate since there was complete silence on their end. He ghosted my last message and we never heard from Simple Lawns again. With such "amazing" communication and all the promises that were never delivered, we are glad we didn't hire Simple Lawns in the first place and we definitely wouldn't recommend them to anybody. UPDATE: Even though no amount of apologies makes a bad experience better, I still wanted to comment on Simple Lawns' response. Soon after the review was posted I got a call from David Aspidov (the estimator) and he apologized for "dropping the ball" on our situation. A little bit later we saw the public response and we also received a 2-page handwritten letter from Vitaliy Aspidov (the owner and CEO) with apologies and acknowledgment that David's behavior was unprofessional. The explanation behind David's actions was that he got overwhelmed and forgot to send us an estimate. I don't think it's very easy to forget about a client after 4 consecutive reminders within one month. Moreover, we gave him access to the server with inspirational photos of other landscapes that he could use to come up with a proposal that would suit our requirements for modern low maintenance landscaping. After the appointment, David hadn't accessed the link for 3 weeks. And even if the reason behind ghosting your client is forgetfulness due to being overwhelmed, I can only imagine how many clients he dropped the ball on that just didn't write a negative review because of that. Anyway, I must say that the apology from the owner was indeed an extra mile that very few people would go. That just tells that he cares very much about his company and his reputation. I hope that this "learning opportunity" will be positive for them in the end and help them improve their quality of service and teach them to not drop the ball on their clients in the future. read more
