I have been shopping at Simply Chic X 4yrs. I buy and sell both. Tips for potential shoppers: 1) Do not bring articles to sell on Hangers or Bags. Boxes and clothes baskets accepted. 2) Expect to pay more for purchases and get less for your items. 3) Need to leave vintage( although site says vintage) items out. Only want items 1-3 yrs old. 4) Do call before you take stuff in because they are now limited on storage and ask for what seasonal items they can handle. Tired of carrying stuff back. Requires a second trip. 5) Alternative to selling items is to take them is using Good Will. They provide with a receipt to put a value on your donation to be used as tax deduction. If in good condition I put 30-50 percent of original price. Plus they educate and provide jobs to handicap people who otherwise could not work. Fulfills my helping others needs. 6) If they are that over-crowded on space that they can not take all seasons they need to be giving excess to the area womens shelters. read more

I have been a customer before of Simply Chic. One of the reasons I have liked supporting them in the past, is they are local and smaller than some other stores. It's probably been 8 months or so since I was in last. I went in looking for a good pair of used blue jeans. Wow, I was shocked by the prices. One pair I found was $35 for a pair of used blue jeans. I think I found one pair for under $20. I am sorry, but I am not ok spending that much on used blue jeans. So I passed. I did look in active wear, the prices were a bit better, but not by much. I get that the store is trying to make money. For me, if I am going to pay that much. I will just spring for the new version. $20-$35 dollars for used blue jeans is ridiculous. Like I said, I wanted to support local. At this point I am looking at other options. Online, picking through goodwill, or waiting a bit and saving for brand new. As far as service goes. Upscale restore shop similar to a Plato's closet. All items are second hand but in good condition, with higher than a typical resale store to back it. While their prices are fairly steep, the items are in good condition and you don't need to sort through as many 'older' items to find your desired 'treasures'. Like Plato's, you can bring in clothes to resale. Again, employees are picky about what they buy and what they offer, as that is part of the job. Don't come in expecting to be rich, but maybe think of it more as making something rather than nothing. In my experience, one employee was very friendly while one was standoffish, but like any business, employees come with their own personalities. This place is racist I wouldn't waste my time here again with their unhelpful employees and rude attitudes. My mother in law (who is African American) was not treated well here as she brought items to sell they refused to buy any accept two things. She walked out with $4 and I've never been treated this way. They told her they don't buy winter/ fall items right now and they don't buy items with no tags. I have never been told this and they take most of my clothes when I go especially since fall and winter is all I really wear I also brought items with no tags the employees did not refuse. Heard they treated another man the same way. Disappointed and won't be back. read more

I've been shopping at Simply Chic both in Plainfield and in Indy until that one closed. Because I am a single mom on a budget with a professional job, I exclusively shop at the Plainfield store close to my home and Target. I spent $1157.84 here last year. A few times I've had a negative experience and so I thought I'd put my two cents in here. My friend and I were in recently and laid some items on the bench near where we were shopping that we intended to purchase. (we are 56 & 61) I noticed a sales person removing them so I approached her, apologized, explained why we had laid them there. She said "I didn't see anyone around" and the items could be placed at the counter. We had to locate 3 pair of earrings that she had replaced on the rack. She did not help. We were upbeat (my friend and I always have fun and are always kind). She stood there and asked us what they looked like. (umm... didn't you just put them back?) After we located our earrings, we turned and she was gone-our clothing still lying on the bench where she had laid them again! This made no sense. I collected the 10 items and took them to the counter. When I approached, she was talking about us to a co-worker. By her facial expression, it appeared it was not kind. I loudly asked, "is it okay to lay these here?" Both of these women were under 30 and probably much younger. I immediately sensed we were being disrespected. I returned to shopping and I told my friend what I witnessed and we would have to "kill her with kindness" because that is how we roll. I understand people have bad days and there was a misunderstanding but customer service was lacking by this young woman. When check out came, an older woman close to our age checked us both out. My friend observed the same young woman talking to another co-worker nearby and mentioned "old ladies". It's too bad this young woman feels the need to approach every interaction with exhaustion and impatience and chooses to spread negativity in a place that pays her probably $9 an hour. I wish her everything she deserves. The next time I will be forced to call her out on her bullshit because that's what "old ladies" do-they share their wisdom with dumb little girls who were never taught grace and gratitude. read more

The employees were very friendly. The store is clean, organized well by types of clothing, jewelry, purses, shoes, coats and scraves. I was looking for an Ugly Christmas Sweater for a party. They had 4 or 5 plain, red sweaters but not exactly what I was looking for. The shop is full of nice winter items right now. If you have slightly worn items at home with stuffed closets take to Simply Chic where they purchase the item(s) on the spot (if they purchase). Very very hard to sell clothing to them. They rarely want anything I have taken in. Clothing that's like new... Some items even have tags and weren't bought long before taking in. Seems to me they need to have some protocol they follow and make people aware of it so some of us don't waste our time. read more

I had only been to the Plainfield Simply Chic store once before, as I don't live in Plainfield. I went yesterday because I was looking for a nice handbag. I looked around the store and picked out some earrings and a necklace and a hooded sweatshirt. I looked at the handbags on the back wall but decided I wanted to see the ones behind the counter. I laid my items on the counter and started to walk back to look at those. The lady with grey hair immediately told me I had to stay in front of the counter and that she would get any bag that I was interested in. The last time I was there, I also looked at several items on the wall behind the registers. There were 2 employees there including this grey haired lady. No one said anything during that visit. As a "shopper", I want to be able to look at items, feel them etc. I don't want to have to ask to see them. I can see ANY at the Department stores without any difficulty and those are brand new. I almost just walked out, and in hindsight I wished I had. I bought a green OrYany. I spent almost $100 in your store today, but I really am offended by the way your employee made me feel, like I might steal something. It's a nice store, but I doubt that I'll return after this. read more

They claim they don't accept teen clothes but I didn't bring anything teen related. They took the cheapest items of what I brought. I agree with the earlier review. I've been in this store 3 times and no one is welcoming. It seems like all the workers are not happy. No hello, may I help you with anything nothing! I never know where the markdown items are and if you need a fitting room good luck. I stood waiting for someone to come and unlock one of them. I had to wait until someone was finished with the fitting room. I went in to sell some items and I got the excuse of those items just aren't selling in the store...I told the girl they sell other items of the same brand I brought in! She said they just aren't selling. Basically, if the girl doesn't like what you brought in she won't waste her time looking up how much it's going for. I stood and waited to hear how much my pieces would be. I look over her and another girl are already "done" looking them over. I'm sorry but how do you know if someone isn't going to buy something? I've seen a lot of good and bad as far as items. People have different tastes and have different styles. I don't understand their logic. Word of mouth goes a long way. I will warn my family and friends to go to another consignment shop. One that doesn't give you excuses for why they don't "feel" your items won't sell. Come on!!! read more

I brought in two full bags of clothes for resell and only a few of them were selected for purchase. When the lady was explaining to me why, she said that it was because they were "juniors" and they don't accept size "13/14". I have never bought that size in my adult life and nothing I brought in was that size. Everything was XS or SM in women's sizes. She then proceeded to say that "women" are typically "curvier" and that they'd "only buy bigger sizes". Not only did I feel body shamed because of my body's natural size, but as a 29 year old woman, I felt talked down to. It was not a good experience and I don't recommend this place. read more

I am a loyal minority customer of simply chic ...rather it's the Plainfield location west 86th or north 96th st. No matter what location I patron, I am greeted with nothing but warm smiles, pleasant conversation, & knowledgeable information on any item of my interest. This particular review is to highlight my experience at the Plainfield location.... Hannah Jen and store manager were the very best representatives of the simply chic franchise. I guess this store took the other reviews on Yelp to heart because everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful today! :) I was greeted by all three employees and then one asked if this was my first time in the store. When I said it was, she took about 2 minutes to explain where things were located and the sale they had going on today. I loved the selection and organization. Expect to pay more than Goodwill prices... but was so worth it to me as every piece was carefully curated. There was nothing worn, stained, or out of style in this store. I will definitely be back. Big! Awesome selection of all sizes. What's my problem then? The lack of friendliness. I want to be greeted or acknowledged...especially when I'm the only one in the dang store. I know this location just opened, so maybe they are still working out the kinks. I'll give them a break for now. I've shopped at all Simply Chic locations for over 9 years. I've been a loyal customer, purchased several luxury designer items, and sold designer items to all locations. As of today, I will no longer shop at ANY locations ever again. I've contacted the Plainfield store to purchase the Louis Vuitton Neo Shoulder Bag. I've called and spoke with one of your associates to purchase the bag over the phone, due to my location. I'm aware you hold luxury items for only TWO hours. The associate indicated that they are uncomfortable taking such a large amount over the phone. Shortly after, the store associate asked Andrea, the manager, if I can place a deposit at least. She said they will take a deposit of $100, hold the bag until tomorrow, and I gave her my card information. Andrea called me at 2:56 pm, and stated that she spoke with Andy. He requested I purchase the bag over the phone, which is what I intentionally was doing in the first place. She indicated that its best for ME to see the bag in person, because of the high amount, return policy, and to see the condition. She reinstated that the bag will be held until tomorrow. ( I do not live in Plainfield, which is why I preferred to pick up the bag today). I received a text at 9:59am the following morning, indicating the bag was sold LAST NIGHT?? I also noticed on Instagram that the bag sold at 6:00pm (7.7.20) the same evening I called. You should've notified me or at least have the courtesy to contact me prior to selling. The fact that I was lied too, appalls me. You had no intention of notifying me. I've spoken to other customers, that shop at your stores in the past, that "state you treat minorities completely different". Whether its your sales, customer service, or questioning the authenticity of an item. There are plenty of online consignment vendors that can AUTHENTICATE their luxury items, price their items accurately, and have a better selection.
