It's sad to say that I have to downgrade to one star. It's really no surprise that the service sucks. Don't expect to get acknowledged and make sure you order if you know what you want when you are seated or you'll probably never see the waitress again. I'm not sure where the waitresses are for the majority of the time but tonight I was VERY annoyed and needed to share my experience. I came in with two other friends and we were catching up so the lack of service didn't bother us as it normally would. I ordered calamari to go on a separate check and spoke to 3 different girls about it. We had a new girl give us our check at the end (not our waitress). We paid and everything but sat there for another 45 minutes just chatting. When I walked out, I had noticed I didn't get my calamari yet so I came back in and asked for it. The girl at the counter proceeded to tell me that since it was on a separate check, I still need to pay for it. What do you mean?? I literally signed the receipt when I was still sitting down and I gave a tip that they didn't even deserve!! I told her I already paid when the other waitress brought all our checks out. They were rummaging through the mounds of receipt and were trying to accuse me of not paying for it yet. I told her the table hadn't been cleared when I left and she snapped back at me and said the receipts would have been in front of her. I was getting so frustrated because it seemed like they forgot about my order altogether and all they were concerned about was if I paid yet. The girl seemed pretty convinced I hadn't so she brought out another woman who looked at my tab on the computer screen and the thing still said "open" and said I haven't paid. At this point I was PISSED so right when I pulled up my bank statement on my phone to prove to these people I paid for it, she found the receipt. I bet they felt SOOO stupid. MAYBE IF I HAD ONE WAITRESS WHO CONSISTENTLY SERVED ME AND ACTUALLY DID HER JOB FROM BEGINNING TO END, THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN. They need to hire more people because service is super slow and the wait time takes a while. It's ridiculous that they raised up the price on certain food that I can get elsewhere for cheaper but quality is still good. They use to be great but things change when certain people doesn't work there no more. The only thing I would still go is for it's spicy chicken. read more

I ordered simply khmer like two weeks ago and I walk in and I'm greeted by two guys and a woman and literally they were the nicest people ever, even helped me bring my food to my car, gave me a free bottle of hot oil. As I was waiting they talked to me about their day, asked me how mine was, asked me how my family was doing... in true Cambodian fashion. Khmer people are known for being welcoming and I'm happy simply khmer can share our culture with the people of lowell. Idk how people can write anything less than 5 stars, I've been coming here since high school and have always had a great experience with friends and family. Everyones been telling us about this place, so we gave in and gave it a try! They have really good food and deals here! Kathew (Noodle Soup) was only $4.95 and bauw bauw (rice soup) was only $3.95! Food was soo cheap we felt like everything was 50% off that day, haha! They have a great variety on their menu. We are bound to go back and try their spicy calamari. My girlfriend loves their strawberry shake w/ whip cream on top! We definitely recommend this place! Make sure you bring cash though, theres a $1.00 charge for charges $15 or under. Love this place! A group of 6 of us went out for lunch one day and our Cambodian coworker (Holla Kiki) picked out all the dishes. We did family style and she ordered plate after plate! I wish I knew the names of everything she ordered so I could put them in the review. We had a few different noodle dishes, calamari, chicken wings, beef teriyaki, pineapple rice (it even comes in the pineapple) and so much more. We all loved it and left stuffed. The only thing we took with us was 3-4 chicken wings. I can't imagine going wrong with ordering anything here. The prices are terrific too. For the 6 of us it was $100 including tip (about 16.50 pp). Believe me, with all the food we went through, it was a steal! It's a small place with maybe about 10 tables. However, It's comfortable. I'm not one to give out 5 star ratings very much but this place certainly deserves each and every one of them!!! read more

Food is not always consistent. I will say they do have awesome spicy wings. I will recommend that if you want great service, order for take out. After several bad experiences with our waitresses, we refuse to dine in. Also if you do order take out, make sure you are specific with what you want and double check it before you leave the restaurant. My husband always orders their pork rice soup and asks for extra pork liver in it. He is always charged extra but has not once received it. If they can get rid of their absent minded waitresses, I would give them 4 stars and maybe dine in more often. But its been this way for a while now and i'm not going to hold me breath! read more

We loved the the Angkor and hot wings here, but the last 3 or 4 experiences here have been very subpar. I know eating out at an Asian place isn't too costly, but the least you could expect is your food to come out right. I don't know if they have different cooks or not, but the last time we dined in, the chicken wasn't even crispy and it seemed like we were missing a few wings. I also got micatang special and there was so little on my dish you'd think it was a half serving or enough for a child. There was only 5 pieces of beef and one shrimp and that's the special. Afterwards, we ordered wings to go and we waited for 20 minutes and asked about the wings and they didn't even have the order in yet or the waiter forgot. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BAD here. Trying to call into the restaurant is bad too. I always have to call 2 or 3 times to get through. Last week, I called to place an order for pick up, I called 20 minutes before I got there and then waited for another 10 minutes to be told your order was never written down and I asked how much longer would it take to put the order in now? Another 20 minutes. I just don't understand how the wait staff can forget to write down an order after getting off the phone. It takes maybe 10 to 15 seconds and I've worked as a waiter myself before. These few experiences make me think twice before I would go to SK even though I do love their chicken a lot. Spicy Angkor Wings - I'm not sure what the difference is, but this one seems to have more of a smokey flavor to it, like oyster sauce or something. Yes, they are spicy. Pineapple Fried Rice - It's. In. A. PINEAPPLE. Don't be afraid of the menu price, this order can feed two people. I prefer this one over the mango because of the sweetness. Mango Fried Rice - This one is in a mango, but because mangoes are smaller, it just looks like a plate of rice. Still very good. Beef Loc Lac - Another popular order for me. The beef is nice and tender with plenty of rice. You can actually split this one and still be full. Kuy Tiev Special - For under $5 you can have beef AND seafood? Flavorful? Best believe this is a best seller here. Load it up with Sriracha and Hoisin sauce, and you're good to go. Atmosphere: Busy. There's always something going on here, and there's always at least one big group of people. Many people in the Cambodian community complain that it's too "young", and isn't run traditionally. I beg to differ: I enjoy seeing fresh faces, and people mingling. I ALWAYS see someone I know there, and I feel good knowing it's not inappropriate to greet them from across the room. The little toddlers running around - I'm not a fan of that. Staff: The staff is very friendly (and young). They can for the most part speak Khmer, but their English is great. It's a family business, and they do it well. Sometimes you have to flag them down for things (it gets so busy), but you can pretty much ask any of them. Final Thoughts: Even if this place didn't become super famous (Andrew Zimmerman), I would still recommend this place to everyone I know. The loc lac was a lot different from what i had in cambodia. Simply's was sweeter and the meat seemed to be cooked a but on the well done side. Everything else was good. this review is long overdue...this place is a great value for the food. Don't be dissuaded by its bright lights and open layout, haha...and be forgiving of the teenage wait staff. They can be a little in the clouds, yes and sometimes clueless, but they are very nice and mean no harm. Sometimes I find it funny how they forget utensils and are so apologetic when you point it out. Reminds me of Viet Thai's service very nice but slow service and great food. The fried squid with its tangy lime pepper side sauce is amazing!!! The Beef loc lac , Lort Cha, both yummy! Pleah - Sach Ko and Yuom Sach Moun/Shrimp are delicious cold dishes, pineapple or mango rice are great and find that the fruit add an interesting sweet bite. I also like the flat rice noodle dishes and many of the soups from the spicy to simple broth soups. You just cant go wrong with a side of sprouts and lime. Avocado shakes are great in general and they make them!!!....remember the teens sometimes make them hahaha...but like i said i love so many of the dishes that i'm extremely forgiving... We once had a fried whole fish that was huge but it did seem that they had been over using the same oil all day. Mind you it was an odd time in the winter where there were major power outages all over MA/NH and the region so i forgave them for the odd flavor the oil gave the fish......I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try again one day when in town. read more

This is our usual go to spot when our other favorite khmer restaurants the area are closed on certain days. The phone ordering orders has improved, they were known for never picking up phone calls. Parking is still the same it's either a hit or miss. The food is consistent for most of the food items on the menu. We always enjoy eating here or take out. The only one thing is their prices. The prices has risen, a lot, I mean a lot! $17.95 for a triple combo plus an additional $1 for spicy wings? It is a really good meal, but a few years ago it was only $11.95!Another thing is they always add additional cost if you wanna change your order. Other khmer restaurants around the area don't ever charge for substitutions. Oh yeah, for a while now they close two days a week and open late on Wednesday's. Last time we were there, all the dishes were delicious and they're usually our go to dishes. I renamed this place Simply C'mere - which is what you should do. The food is fantastic. Here are my favorites: - Hot Wings - decadent, but delicious. Spicy as the name indicates. - Loc Lac - Very tender and tasty. I've tried the "original" version and the Americanized version. I'm usually one of those who goes for the traditional (aka authentic) version, but in this case, I have to admit I prefer the Americanized version. - Cha Kroung Sach Moun - Very tasty chicken dish. Rich blend of spices. - Amok Trey - One of my favorites. A must-try fish entree. Has a flavor similar to Thai curries. I've been several times and never had a bad experience with the wait staff, so maybe I've been lucky, or maybe the folks complaining are a lot pickier than me. Note: do not try to order take out. The food here is so good and so cheap. We always get the soup beef soup with tripe - it's incredible. Also the hot wings, fried calamari, k'tieu, mekatang spicy, pork chop, and the pork soup with mushrooms are all very good. Lately we've been hooked on spicy mekatang and k'tieu though because it is so cheap. If you're Anglo, don't called the K'tieu soup "Koi tiev" like my boyfriend did when he ordered. Why are you doing this, Simply Khmer? Ever since you gained popularity due to Andrew Zimmern, your lack of effort is noticeable. You were my crown jewel every time I came home but I might have to take my title over to Tepthida Khmer. My parents and I always go to your restaurant for breakfast. Kuy-tiev is still pretty bomb and is hard to mess up. But the only thing that irks me is your pork intestines dish. I love the fried pork intestines with dipping sauce but why do you tease me and give me the one with the sour cabbage when I order out? I have to double check my take-out now and also explain thoroughly what I want. In addition, if the table is of six people with all of us eating kuy-tiev, why are you giving us one basket of fresh veggies and one tea kettle? Doesn't make sense. read more

I always order the hot wings and boy i cannot rave enough about them...just the right spice to it. the ka'tew is always great comfort food after a night of Hennesy....The Mi Ka Tung is so tasty. This should not be how a restaurant is run. It is not hard to provide good service, especially in a small restaurant. Its a shame really. They could capitalize on there recent popularity because of their stint on TV, but this poor service is throwing it down the drain. Recently I was up in Lowell on the way back from a trip over at Hampton Beach with the family. My cousins, one of whom goes to school in the area, have been raving on and on incessantly about the great "bomb" food here and decided that this will be our dinner for the day. Never tasting Cambodian food, I was unsure of what the cuisine would be like, but regardless my feelings, my curiosity conquered all other senses and I was willing to try. With a party of eight, we ordered two sets of Angkor-style wings and bok lo-hong (shredded papaya) salads, a large tom yum soup, and a mango and pineapple fried rice. Food took a little while to come and when the plates of food did, they would come at a wave and then interspersed at random intervals. I am guessing that the weird timings for some foods were due to the fact that there were other customers to attend to and serve. From what dishes I did try, I would say that everything tasted fairly decent. The chicken was tasty. With a sweet tang and a spicy punch with the chili-infused oil, it went well with the papaya salad. Having grown up with a pretty diverse Pan-Asian taste palette, I would say that Cambodian food is not too far off from the tastes of other Asian countries. I would even say that the taste is a mixture of Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese. Why I say this is because these dishes are similar to other dishes that I tried. For example, the papaya salad is also a staple Thai dish, albeit the Thai version is not as soaked and as pungent with the fish sauce as the Cambodian dish. Rather, the Thai papaya salad has a lighter, more refreshing taste to it while the Cambodian has a deep needs-to-be-acquired flavor. The tom yum soup was nearly spot on with the Thai version, though this was packed more with different ingredients. The fried rice is a kind of a staple in most Asian restaurants I've been to, and it's okay and edible here. From my experience, I can say that they do standard food. Unfortunately, I couldn't take away from this restaurant the "Cambodian" aspect of this cuisine (if people have any recommendations, please let me know!). I could already tell I am getting a good price for whatever I get. Fair warning though: the food's quantity is inconsistent. I noticed that the amount of food served for the same dish were not equal but decided to overlook it. Also, make sure that all the charges for your food are accurate. A waiter told us the large bowl of plain white rice is $3 but we were charged $6. I don't think we would have minded the price if it weren't for the fact that there was a blatant discrepancy of what was said and done. We did bring this to our waiter's attention and he changed it, so all was good. Overall, I think the food was good, but just good. Unfortunately, I wasn't left wanting. I am from Providence RI and attending a convention at the Tsongas arena in Lowell MA. I am cambodian American and ofcourse need to always find a place to dine especially khmer food. I AGREE 100 percent with the reviews concerning customer service. They are probably related to the owner or friends of the family. BUT this should not be an excuse. I did have to remind my young / shy / inexperienced waiter I needed straws 3xs. I did wait quite a while for some nime chow...smh. I am giving it 3 stars for their food! Hot wings are great, must taste. I even ordered some to go. Food is definitely overpriced but overall I will return. I am not Cambodian, Is by far the best Khmer restaurant that I had ever eaten at in my whole entire life. And believe me, I know my food and had traveled. As soon as I had walked in, I was greeted with a welcoming smile and was seated right away. The place was very cozy and the environment has that Khmer theme. The service was quick and friendly. The food were all very fresh and were THE BEST Khmer food I had EVER had, in my entire life. And I had eaten at to a lot of few " Hot wings" " Noodle Soup" and many more...YUM..Drooling...Just thinking about it. I will definitely tell and highly recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family. Totally worth making the trip out there even if the parking sucks, but who cares. Let's start with the food: The food is great here. However, the portion isn't as much as it used to be from when it first opened up and the prices went up. Known for their spicy chicken wings which I prefer over bon chon chicken all day. Service: LOL. What service? I hate asking for stuff more than once... especially water. I also ordered a pineapple fried rice with beef and shrimp and the waitress told me I can only have either beef or shrimp and I can't have both. WTF!??!?! I want both! I'll even pay extra! The greens were so varied, from mint to basil to salad to raw eggplant (surprisingly delicious) to the sludge you dip it in, just amazing. My mouth waters now at the thought. Ordered the food over the phone without a problem.Tried a variety of dishes, including a fish soup, loc lac, stir fried pig intestines, chicken with mixed vegetables, pork with tofu, and an order of their hot wings. The hot wings and pork with tofu were our favorites. Those dishes were reminiscient of the battered Korean wings we've had in the past, and the pork with tofu reminded me of the classic Taiwanese dish. Everything tasted great. The loc lac was good, the beef was not chewy and it was cooked well The highlight of the meal was the hot wings! I like spicy (like I can eat siracha by spoonfuls without sweating). These wings were spicy enough, savory, sweet, and overall awesome. Better than bon chon/mad for chicken and much better in price (7 wings for $7). Service was good. Went for a night out in Lowell and decided to grab some Cambodian food. Searched on google and this place popped up first. We got there a little after 8pm and they close at 9pm. The staff was very friendly. Not once did they rushed us or even showed a little urgency to take our order. Everything was delicious. I'm not a big spicy eater so I got mild but it still has a good kick to it. The triple combo is highly recommended. It comes with papaya salad, hot wings and sticky rice. The wings are a must. They are fried to perfection with the inside still tender and juicy. Even though this place is an hour away from me, I will definitely be back. read more
