one of the few Honduran food spot here in the Bay Area. this restaurant is a Honduran and Mexican fusion food: i bought their pollo con tajadas, which is a typical Honduran dish consisting of a large chicken breast, fried, dressed with shredded cabbage, yucca and veggies service was incredible, ambiance was nice and tranquil. while the inside view isnt spacious, its a great environment indoors

Went with a group of friends who were craving Honduran food. The staff were so friendly and took their time cooking a delicious meal. I joked with everyone that the moment our food came there was silence because we were too busy eating the amazing food. I WILL be coming again for the pescado frito!

Great spot! I just moved here from NYC and was craving some Honduran Baleadas. This was the perfect spot. They delivered! Felt like I was home

Mi tío dando gracias por estas baleadas tan deliciosas.

On the pricier side in my opinion but the food was exceptional. Got a couple burritos and it wasn't too long of a wait at all.

The chef put the right amount of mayo and a slice of raw onion under the top bun making it less dry. Side note, I noticed they no longer have pepper shakers on the tables. Previously, I was able to salt and pepper my fries. Only salt shakers are available now. Good job my friends at Honduras Kitchen.

Nice presentation of both items. Started with the Churrasco - good flavor throughout. As for the plantains, they were ok. I think they could've been cooked just a bit longer as some pieces were still a tad on the firm side. Read reviews that noted the Tripe Soup as a must, and I must say this was my fave. Never had it this way before - soup on the creamy side. That broth was so savory and yummy. Love the veggies in it and there were some bones with that meat and cartilage on it. So good. Only complaint was that I didn't have a whole lot of tripe pieces - would've liked more of the tripe. Would definitely have the tripe soup again and look forward to trying other items on the menu.

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!

The Pollo con Tajadas tasted like fish--clearly cooked in reused oil. When we called, they didn't offer to remake it. Today we ordered a desayuno and three baleadas. The menu clearly says it comes with eggs and even asked how we wanted them. No eggs showed up. When we called, they blamed us for ordering the "wrong" item and didn't even apologize. Hopefully they get it together, but as of today, they've lost two customers.

I was told my total was $168 and some change for dinner (seemed a bit high, but figured it was our problem for not asking for prices ahead of time). We asked if the tab could be split by three and the gentleman who rang me up said yes, but my total would probably go up to about $190. I asked for clarification and he said once he split the transaction it would add full tax each time. I clarified and asked if the $168 already included taxes and he said "yes". I asked how the amount would increase since the $168 already included tax and it should only be divided by three, he then shrugged and said "California" then proceeded to tell me some irrelevant story about high prices he pays for. To avoid the mess, I asked that he just charge it on one card since the extra charges were unclear and would be easier for both of us. He charges my card and then hands me a receipt that showed the total charged was $175.74. I inquire about the extra amount charged and he shakes his head again and says "the tax". Up until then, it had been a good experience. The waitress provided good service, the vibe was good, I would have continued to support this local business. My issue is not the extra amount charged. The issue is that the gentleman was unable to justify the extra amount added to my total or tell me upfront what it was for. For sure, questionable business practices.
